Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Music Artist Information plugin

2014-09-21 Thread Michael Herger
OK, I'm a little confused as to if how local artist / composer files
 are supported.

There's little special treatment for them. The local artwork would give you
access to any artwork file stored inside the album's folder. The same applies
for a bio.html in the local text files menu.

There is a bit of special treatment for the bio.html: the plugin would actually
walk up a few folder levels for searching for anything bio*, assuming that most
users have an Artist/Album folder structure.

..and I've got an artist/composer picture at:

 /mnt/Media/Music/a_Medieval/Du Fay, G/composer.jpg

..and I've got an artist/composer bio file at:

 /mnt/Media/Music/a_Medieval/Du Fay, G/bio.html

How would I configure the plugin?

Artist pictures are either stored as artist.jpg/png in an album folder, or as
artist name.jpg/png in the configurable one for all artists images folder. I
could probably add a similar treatment for artist pictures as I did for the
bio.html.

I'm running on QNAP nas and the maintainer of the packages of LMS was a

To get rid of the nagging upgrade message I now want to uninstall, but
can't do it without upgrading first
So where does LMS stores the installed plugins and keep track of what's
installed, I have searched high and low on my nas but can't find it?

Once I select your plugin to be installed and stop / start LMS, your

If I mark it to be updated and I restart LMS again (or the entire

This happens with LMS 7.8 and 7.9

In my experience, very, very well. Andy did a lot of work extending
cuesheet support in the roll out of SBS 7.4 when he wrote the
audioscan library. For instance, flacs-with-embedded-cuesheets no
longer require transcoding (as they did with all versions of SS/SC/SBS
7.4) and are fully supported natively. Flacs-with-embedded-cuesheets
haven't been 2nd class LMS citizens for the past 5 years.

has provided me with a work-around, and thanks for that.
Just the same, I'd rather not have to salt my library tree with an
additional 877 silent mp3s.

Michael: Please understand that with libraries composed of
flacs-with-embedded-cuesheets, there is no album folder per-se. An
album is a single file and it's usually stored in the artist folder,
i.e. the album file resides in the same folder as the bio.html
file.

E.g., for the flac file I cited in my previous post, the url field in
the track table record in library.db for the 1st track is:

Code:

file:///mnt/Media/Music/a_Medieval/Du%20Fay,%20G/O%20gemma,%20lux%20-%20Huelgas%20Ensemble.flac#3597.933-4121.88

I haven't looked at the code in your plugin so I don't know how you're
breaking out the containing folder for the album. But as you can see,
with audio files with embedded cuesheets, you can't assume that the url
record represents a real file path. You'd need to strip off the
#3597.933-4121.88 (which represents what? Duration in
frames?) to get a path name that can then be splitpath-ed.

That's easy enough. I can just ln -s create artist.jpg links to the
composer.jpg files.

Since flacs-with-embedded-cuesheets are such a minority format, maybe
it's time that I start tearing into your plugin code, liberally salting

Fair enough, but separate FLAC files for each track result in an equally

per-track metadata and album art.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Soundcloud plugin for squeezeserver

2014-09-21 Thread erland

Just a quick update regarding this issue, so people won't have to
stubble too much regarding things that won't be possible to easily
solve.

There are two different problems:
- Access to API over https
- Streaming over https

Access to SoundCloud API over https is related to the 'Enabled peer
verification' change discussed previously in the thread and works out of
the box on some setups while some setups requires https peer
verification to be disabled.

The situation regarding streaming is that SoundCloud are currently
hosting their streams on two different servers:
- Some streams are hosted on a server that supports both http and https
- Some streams are hosted on a server that only supports https

It is possible to get it to work for the streams that are hosted on the
server that supports both http and https, but unfortunately, as I've
understood it, SoundCloud is in a migration phase where they are going
to eventually migrate everything to the server which only supports
https. The analysis done so far of the LMS/Squeezebox source code is
that LMS does not support https for streaming, neither using direct
streaming nor streaming through LMS.

We are currently looking into possible alternative solutions for
ickStream since SoundCloud is one of the services we have integrated in
our beta setup.
