Greetings from Finland,

Thank you for the hard work!

I just want to inform you that I had big problems with playback. Tracks
were skipping all the time. I also wasn't able to play next song through
lms web gui when playing songs from iPhone (spotify connect). The
playback just paused.

I changed the helper from spotty-hf v0.20.0 to spotty-muslhf v0.12.2 and
everything seems to be working now.

Thanks!

Thanks and apologies for the delay in replying.

Since I changed the Live Stream Preference to HLS > DASH > MP3 >
FlashAAC the problem is partially fixed in that I can now start the BBC
easily by just pressing play.

However it does not start automatically on wake up. However I now
realise that this is part of a bigger problem in that just playing
ordinary FLAC music doesn't restart either. I have tried "Pause /
Resume" and "Stop / Restart Song" settings, neither work. Am using 3
sync'd SB3s. The main thing was to make it easy to start BBC which is
now fixed. Thanks very much...

I think this may be wishful thinking rather than actual improvement.

I cannot test until you tell me exactly how you shutdown and wake up the
players and systems.
Does the player shut the server down ?
Does the server shutdown out of inactivity ?
Is the server woken by a keyboard press
Is the server woken by a WakeOnLan magic packet ? If so is the Server
wireless or wired connection to player ?
What is the W10's "state" (as defined by MS) of the server when it is
asleep ?

There are so many options and variations -that I cannot test unless I
have information.

My gut feel is that it is somehting to do with server taking too much
time to wakeup. More time than the LMS s/w allows especially with synced
players and so LMS s/w timeouts

As I said above I don't think HLS will necessarily be a better option
there is very little difference in implementation. MP3 is quite a
different implementation.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Squeezelite-X

2019-04-23 Thread rgdawson

Version 2.2.0 has been uploaded to the Store.

This version is mostly internal pipe cleaning and code re-organizing and
some efficiency improvements.

- SLX will now raise a error flag and stop when the selected output
device is not found. Previous behavior was to revert to the default
  output device and continue.
-
- SLX will now raise an error flag and stop when it finds the player
name you have defined is already in use on the server. Previous
behavior was to automatically rename the player and continue.
-
- Since "show notifications" on new song only works when there is a
tray icon and there is a tray icon only when "Run in background" is
On. So now, the Show notifications toggle switch is disabled when
"Run in background" is set to off. In a future version, I intend to
make notifications work even if "Run in background" is off.
-
- In settings, Apply button will apply any changes from all tabs.
Previously only changes in the current tab were applied.
-
- Updated to latest version of Chromium Embedded Framework
-

- there are 3 SB3s, all wired and sync'd. Two of them are permanently
connected to power, the third has power disconnected shortly after the
PC sleeps via a power saving socket.

- the PC is usually put to sleep via the Windows Start Menu, and
sometimes via a very simple little app called Wizmo.exe. I don't even
know how to get the SB3 to put the PC to sleep. I am pretty sure that
the behaviour in both cases is the same.

- I usually wake the PC by pressing the Power button on one of the SB3s
that is permanently connected to power, and this is how I have been
testing it the last few days.

- In Windows I had to set "Only allow a magic packet to wake the
computer" to stop it being woken all the time.

- Powercfg -a shows available sleep states as S3 / Hibernate / Hybrid
Sleep / Fast Startup.

- - it certainly doesn't go into Hibernate since that requires entry of
the Bitlocker password

- -
_However_I_tried_it_with_Hibernate_twice_(waking_via_SB3)_and_BBC_starts_normally_as_hoped_

- - fast start-up is disabled in Power Options

- - hybrid sleep is effectively disabled since the "Hibernate after"
setting is set to never.

Thanks at least I now know what to test at some point.

My W10 PC has the same states but when I testing I have been using the
"power" control which offer "Sleep" , "Restart" or "shutdown!. No
indication what "Sleep" corresponds to - Hibernate, S3 or Hyrbid Sleep.

My Hibernate does not need a password !

My PC is not wired as it is not normally in use as Windows or even LMS
server. To test would require wiring a player and also wiring the W10
server.

So when PC is put to sleep - all the players are actually playing.

Synced players add a level of timing resulting in undetermined
variability which I think could affect playback especially coming out of
sleep.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Android control apps: recommendations, differences?

2019-04-23 Thread Manul

I've been using Squeezer on my Android phone as my main control for a
while now. While I'm not particularly missing anything, I'd be curious
to know whether I'm missing out on something. I've found three more
apps: Squeeze Controller, Squeeze Ctrl and Orange Squeeze. The first one
is not rated too high and the latter two don't offer any trial. They are
both reasonably priced, but I'd be a bit disappointed if I paid for them
just to find out I like Squeezer better.

So, what app are you all using on Android? Why did you choose it? What
are its strengths and weaknesses? Is there another app to consider that
I didn't find?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I tried it. You are really very persistent. :D

So it works much better, but not yet reliable.

So basically it seems to work and all the songs of an album or a
playlist are played completely.

But sometimes the music stops anyway. At first I thought it was the
bridge, but it may be the trigger, the music stops because the Bose
Soundtouch 20 suddenly hangs and then restarts. Meanwhile, the Bose
disappeared in the bridge. After the reboot is finished, the music
starts to play again.
Therefore, you have about one minute break. All this happens without any
user intervention.

It seems that at some point the commands from the Bridge mess up the
Bose.

No idea what I can do now.

What I also noticed is, that the volume after selecting the first song
or after a restart after a stop is always 0.
But perhaps I need ohter setting to avoid this.

TBH I am not too bothered that it doesn't automatically start itself on
waking, although I am surprised that it works with S4/(Hibernate) but
not S3. The main problem seems to be fixed. But I don't really
understand what having the Live Stream set to HLS > DASH > MP3 >

more rigorously.

BBC has multiple formats often many are available sometimes only one.
The order means try first type and if that fail got to second etc. This
can be useful when some Listen Again programs are only available in
podcast MP3 so DASH and HLS would fail. FlashAAC used to be useful for
very old programs played with BBCiPlayerExtra - these are nearly all
gone.

I can't test UK streams. For R2 or R4 - in the UK the MP3 stream is
supposed to be about 339kbps (at least according to the BBC imda URL). I
thought above 320kbps for MP3 is very good especially for talking and
casual listening programs.
BBC make R3 special and it is the only station to have an high quality
AAC stream. It can be played via the BBCiPlayer "MP3" menu.

I've had the A-Z grouping switched off and been using the jump lists
instead, which I think I now prefer.

Turning A-Z Grouping on again I also get strange results. On Composers
for instance, whatever alphabetic group I select it seems to be listing
artists starting with 'A'. Album Artists does something similar. 'All
Artists' works as expected.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin

2019-04-23 Thread Manul

Thanks, I was just starting to play with the skin and hadn't even found
the jump lists yet. I think I like them better than A-Z grouping but I
still think it's strange that it doesn't work.

Some more questions while I'm here: Is there a way to browse albums in
grid mode? I've set grid mode to "whenever possible" but the albums
still show up as a jump list. The only place grid view seems to work is
in "new music".

Slightly OT: Is there a way to make the skin full screen in Chrome on
Android?

If you're using Chrome, tap the three dots top right and select "Add to

If BBC doesn't play then the problem is installation of the Plugin.

Addict radio (multiple streams) is problematic - the m3u8 master
playlist says the stream is AAC but the mediaplaylist that follows is
MP3. This stream does not play in a number of HLS players as it does
not confirm to standards.

Sumoipop should play with ffmpeg.. There is no ID3 issue and stream
looks good.

Back to original problem- get the plugin working.

Can you get a log of player.source set to DEBUG when trying to play one
of these streams.

2019-04-23 Thread d6jg

I have a Spotify / iPeng issue this evening - anyone else?

Upgraded to Spotty 2.8.1 today but I’ve been listening to a Raspberry Pi
all day today

This evening I am listening via my headphones and iPeng. No Spotty.

Did I read there was a change in codec to native Ogg Vorbis? Is iPeng
capable of playing this? If so what is required to set up LMS
accordingly?

The sorting is handled by LMS - Material just asks for a list of
artists. The A..Z groups are created by asking LMS for its list of 'text
keys'. This is a list of letters with the first index of each item. e.g.
A:0, B:25 would mean the first artist has a text key of 'A', and the
26th has 'B'. Material then creates its A..Z lists, so that if you click
on 'A' it shows artists from 0..24 (inclusive).

I know early 7.9.2 LMSs had issues with some characters, but can't
remember when this was fixed.

I don’t think it is fixed. Michael was in discussion with the developers
of SQLite on it. The odd grouping only appears in some versions of
SQLite not others and on some platforms not others.
In my case I have two LMS installs both using the same files and both at
the same level of LMS but with different SQLite versions. One has the
issue the othe doesn’t.

The Spotify ogg format must have some kind of encryption, otherwise it
would be to simple to ”steal” the files.

There is no encryption in these ogg files, that's for sure. I helped
with the librespot patch to enable that. Here are the result of
verifications I've made

- Works with using built-in ogg decoder (AirPlay bridge or any bridge in
non-thru mode)
- UPnPBridge in "thru" mode (untouched flow) : foobar2000 works but
Sonos does not
- CastBridge in "thru" mode: works on CCA

Now, there might be other condition where the ogg container is not
properly decoded, I don't know

The problem is not the codec.
Somehow the stream starts paused. It sends a starting header but then
only empty frames.
If I move the position within the stream (you can reproduce this with
the time slider) the plugin starts to send actual music and iPeng plays
it.

No idea why the plugin only does this for OGG and not also for FLAC and
what the plugin is waiting for,

2019-04-23 Thread pippin

What I mean is that all I get is skip frames (empty frames with a type
of 0x400, meaning they are supposed to be skipped by the codec).
That’s all.
Even the initial header (which usually consists of three packets for
Ogg) is incomplete, only the first packet arrives, then the empty
frames.

The situation when you reposition in a stream is slightly different. I
need to work on 'seek' in librespot. Currently, when you reposition a
track in LMS, then spotty uses the plain pcm option of librespot and
then re-encodes to flac. It was doing that all the time before. The
modifications was to allow ogg to be a passthrough when piping audio
instead of decoding it and pipe pcm, but only works if you start from
the beginning.

Can you explain a bit more what you mean by "starts paused"

Understood and I just tried and have the same on my iPhone, with a small
"burst" of music after 5~10c . What you use in iPeng? A modified version
of squeezelite?

What do you mean? Where did you try this? In iPeng?
iPeng is not SqueezeLite, it’s an own implementation of the SlimProto
protocol, SqueezeLite is GPL and contains a lot of GPL libraries, using
that on the AppStore would violate all these licenses.
It also behaves a bit differently WRT buffering and stream sync because
iOS‘ audio pipeline works differently from ALSA

Yes, I tried in iPeng and I could not get sound as well, except a small
"blip" of music after 5-10s of wait. Here is an extract of a bit-exact
capture of a stream

I did not know the AppStore policy, I've never developped and iOS
application, so I did not know the restriction on GPL. Pardon my candor
but that's insane ... anyway
Any chance you could log the data received?

It’s not an App Store policy, it’s a GPL policy. You have to allow
redistribution which is not possible with App Store Apps because Apple
requires their approval (and won’t allow redistribution of identical
apps). I’ll have a look at your stream recording.

I've tried to take a capture of frames exchanged with iPeng. You surely
have better tools that I do :) but what I see is that LMS sends the
STMs, iPeng responds by the STMc and does the GET on /stream.mp3. LMS
reponds with a content-type: audio/ogg and then it seems that only
strmt/STMt slimproto packets are exchanged for a while until iPeng sends
and STMd (decode complete) and then a DSCO (stream disconnect). Could it
be a timeout problem on iPeng that does not happen in the case where
spotty does the decoding because it buffers before sending the STMs?

Not much in fact ... in my bridge, it's a couple of seconds between
strms and the time a 1st packet arrives to the streaming thread. In the
capture I've made form iPeng <=> LMS exchange, there is 6s between the
strms and the STMd

Yea. And when I throw that same Ogg stream at standard libbogg in iPeng
(which is what iPeng does), libogg just finds skip frames after the

I’ll have to investigate further.
Somehow I can’t find where SqueezeLite is doing all this, does it not

I think that when you were setting wmaMeta, you where using the
"uncorrected" duration. So an application gathering metadata (using cli
like I do) would get a different (incorrect) duration compared to what
you get when extracting progress information from song->duration() and
song->time.

I see, thank you for clearing this up. Out of curiosity: How are the

Thanks for that information! Do you by any chance have a link to that

versions of sqlite until one works (probably starting with the newest
and hopefully not having to go any further) but I'm curious and would

When fetching the A..Z list I explicity just ask for the "text keys",
and the first 5(?) artists/albums. LMS returns with a list of key->index
mappings.

When using the jump list, I ask for all (well 25k max) artists/albums in
one go. Each artist is also linked with a "text key". I simply iterate
this list looking for the first occurance of each key. The artist/album
list is then cached into the browser's IndexedDB to speed up subsequent
displays of the list.

Manul wrote:

I use a 3rd party "view recycler" library to handle large lists (so only
what you see, plus a little bit extra, is part of the HMTL page).
Currently this does not support grids, if and when it does then I'll
port the grid code to use that. Still, its not a priority for me - as I
use AlbumArtist -> Album listings, so that is where my focus lies. Code
is open source, so others are free to improve.
