First I want to say I enjoy using the BBC Sounds plugin very much. Thank you for a wonderful contribution. Now to embarrassing myself: I have a basic usability issue with BBC Sounds on LMS 8.1.2 - 1618550311 @ Fri Apr 16 08:36:43 CEST 2021 using Material Skin. I have read half of this thread, the wiki, all opened and closed tickets on GH... and couldn't find mention of it. Here goes: - I almost never listen live. I listen outside the UK. I am subscribed to a handful of BBC1 and BBC3 programs, including "Early Music Now - Early Music from around Europe" - I can navigate to My Sounds>Subscribed>Early Music Now - Early Music from around Europe>Early Music Now - The Summer Festivities of Early Music in Prague : 06 Sep 2021 - I have listened to this program already. I want to play it once more. - The play menu item says "Play - 3 mins left". If I append to the queue, same thing: last 3 mins will play only. - If I go to "All episodes" and select the same program, again I can play the last 3 mins. - If I go to "Tracklist", the first item is "00:01:43 EMN Wk 36 - Charpentier - Méditations pour le Carême (excerpts) - MarcAntoine Charpentier" - In the end, the only way to get the program to play again from the start is to press rewind once it has started. What I would like is being able to requeue an item that has already been played, and have it start at 00:00 without further intervention. So how do I do that? Thanks! I was unaware this plugin existed (and was vaguely aware of "Sounds" itself). Today iPlayer's Listen Again stopped working for me but this plugin saved the day! Many thanks. All the streams I have tried until now are apparently 96kpbs. I am listening from France. Is there anything I can do on my end to get a higher bitrate, or shall I leave it at that? The apparent cause was the iPeng player in my iPhone (same wifi network) stalled on playing a long-departed BBC iplayer stream. I seldom use iPeng on the iPhone, and the player was apparently not synchronised with any other. I powered off the player and immediately the iPad worked correctly again. Playing something in the iPhone doesn't cause any problem since. Perhaps the phone and ipad were synchronized when I played that BBC stream. Pippin, all, I had noticed this for a while but thought is issue was coming from the Airplay Bridge and did nothing about it. Since a few days I am running a pCP 6.0 player and I see the same phenomenon, I'd like to get to the bottom of it: - If nothing is playing and with my iPad I control the pCP player to start playing, then quit iPeng, all works fine - Then if I come back to iPeng, say from Safari, my player stops. I have to press play to make it continue. I've fiddled with various settings like keep/don't keep alive connection, etc. and nothing seems to make any difference. I'm using the latest and greatest iOS on an iPad 2016. iPeng is up-to-date. Does someone know how to get rid of this annoyance? Only works with software players where you can adapt alsa.conf to create a new output device. Works fine with a simple payload and local sounds, not tested sending an actual audio payload. I've run the skin on iOS 11, iPhone SE and iPad (2017), it works fine, it looks good. Contragulations! Some feedback, constructive hopefully: The repo link is nice, however you've make a requirement of version 7.9.1+, I was running 7.9.0 and didn't get the plugin to show up. I initially set "m" to be the default skin in preferences... bad move ;) To recover the usual skin I went to "http://:9000/classic/#" and changed server settings from there. I have counted 3 ways of changing player on iPhone SE: - swipe left or right, - select one of the segments of the dotted line below volume control, - hit one of the arrows to the left or right of the screen And one more on iPad: select the player by name in the dock at the bottom of the screen. For me, I don't think I would have use for the party mode or volumes buttons. I like the sync/unsync feature: for once I don't seem to sync with the wrong player... My players are set to *not* sync power state, so if I sync with a powered-off player, it doesn't start. To start it the only way I've found is to visit its page and hit Play. But in this case it starts from the beginning of the current song, not from the current position. Overall the nc test works well for audio (there is no noticeable lag when using controls on the device), but for lip-sync, no cigar: the audio is noticeably late. I tested over an above-average network, with all processes at RT_RR max priority... So local mode is fine, network mode via LMS would be fine for audio only. I'm thinking of a player that allows playing from digital stream and from analog in. I thought of a simple physical input switch, but then I thought of the CDplayer plugin, that transcends normal CD playing by making it multi-room. All right then, let's make the switch in Alsa somehow. I'm playing with this: - pi3, pCP 3.20 - analog out - a crap C-Media USB thinggy that has mic in - "alsaloop -v -P plughw:0,0 -C plughw:1,0 -t 500" With this ridiculous 0.5ms latency constraint (-t 500), running the alsaloop executable instead of some loop plugin directly in Alsa (?), CPU usage is under 10%. Of course lip-sync is perfect between a phone playing a video and outputting audio with a cable. Before that I was running with latency 250ms, lip-sync was already more than perfect and CPU load about nil. That makes me wonder if sending the input stream to LMS and then back to the players, allowing synced playback, could be worth a try? Do you have an idea of what kind of latency the end-result would have? Lip-sync (~250ms) is desirable, but interactive controls response (~500ms?) would still be interesting, I think. What about the processing chain? I browsed through the thread, I don't think Don't Stop The Music was mentioned yet. This is what I see: the first time DSTM kicks-in (replacing a "Song Mix" item with an actual playlist), the virtual player doesn't seem to be able to act on that playlist and stays caught in a silent startup loop on the first item. Power-cycling the player unsticks it and it plays normally from there on, including over the follow-on items added later by DSTM. I have DSTM activated on most of my players, this group player included. I tried switching DSTM to "none" on the players members of the group, but it made no difference. My LMS version is not super up-to-date. The server is running on a VM, it has plenty of resources. I've finally come around to testing the plugin a little bit. In the current version it seems to work beautifully. I have noticed power does not sync well with my SB3 that has fixed output (100%) and uses the IR Blaster plugin. When I access the player directly my commands operate both the player and the amp. When the power commands are sent from the virtual player, IR blaster is somehow overlooked and the SB3 alone starts/stop with the group. The amp stays in its current state: player on, no sound. TBH, the alarm feature of LMS has the same problem, when the alarm has played for its full duration the player stops but not the amp. So I'm not sure the plugin can something about it. I think my workaround would be to untick power management from the virtual player, and access the SB3 directly. I use the PowerSave plugin, so after 15 mins idle the player and amp could orderly go off. Also when I have my Loop (via Airplay bridge) powered up along with the SB3, the virtual player looks like it is confused with is "volume" IR commands. Sometimes it will only send "volume up" (even when pressing down) and sometimes only "volume down" is being sent. When the SB3 is powered up alone in the group, volume commands work ok. In other words, I can power Loop off and then virtual player volume control works ok for the SB3. I'm not sure what can/should be done about this. 2 out of 3 of my SB3s are using fixed output and an IR Blaster link. Because of this most of the time I control players volumes separately. Pippin is proud of what iPeng's group volume control can do for me; it certainly doesn't confuse IR vol up and down, but nevertheless I don't use it with the fixed output players. Their volume ramp widely differs from that of other players so individual control is the way to go. That's very interesting. I relate this to the templating capability the Squeezy CLI tool provides with the thing called "groups" (eg "squeezy -group 1 -on"). I am using a stupidely contrived ALSA config on squeezelite players and it is locked to 16/44.1. Squeezelite reports maxrate 44100, this works for audio files but not for iPlayer. Currently when I send an iplayer stream to a player, I hear a short squeaky sound and then the machine crashes completely... I would really like not to lose the ability to use the plugin, but I haven't find a way of making my ALSA config compatible with this one extra requirement. I suggest you start reading the Server Power Control thread from 'this post' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?48521-Announce-Beta-version-of-SvrPowerControl=855934=1#post855934) where I relate finding a bug in srvPowerControl install script that adds invalid entries the /etc/sudoers file. I filed a bug in github, but gharris999 is no longer around and nobody picked up development. Right now I suspect your sudoers file is corrupted, that is you can no longer use sudo. Regarding Libratone Zipp dropping its volume to zero: with 0.3.0.3 I was able to reproduce the issue by skipping through a random playlist. HOWEVER. I went to the plugin's prefs page and set "mute on pause" to "No" in Common Parameters. And now, I don't think the volume is dropping anymore... Ok, this time volume went down for me too. I was wiggling the player alone, and nothing would go wrong. But here I just went to the LMS interface after a few hours and Zipp shows vol 0 (and plays at normal volume.) It's been a long time since I needed logging with the player. I will activate traces and report if I see something substantial. I'm pretty sure this is a "new Zipp"-specific thing, perhaps Castalla has one IIRC, but I'm not sure there are so many users out there. (Besides I will soon get a refurbished Zipp of the previous generation, same vintage as my Loop. Hi. Since a few versions (sorry I can't tell when it started) I have noticed the volume slider on my Zipp Mini has a tendency to reset to 0. Yesterday I decided to care about this, and while updating to 0.2.2.6.2 I reset the config file. All settings standard. Today I've found the rotary touch slider on the Zipp is down to 0 (but audio is not muted). On the LMS web interface, I see volume is set to the first segment. Music keeps playing at the prior volume on LMS, eg 50%. The Libratone app indicates the prior volume value, too. If I touch the player, the app, or the +/- controls on the web interface, audio effectively goes mute. I have to crank it up again by whatever means (player, app, web interface...) and thing are back in order for a while. I don't think I have an external process fiddling with the Zipp's volume control. I recently installed the VolumeLock plugin but I do not actually use it. The player often plays synchronized with a Libratone Loop BT/wifi, but volume settings are not synched. The Loop does not have its volume slider drift to 0 over time. I often listen to BBC 3 replays with this player (long programs), but I do not know if this can have an effect. There are multiple wifi networks the player has been connecting to recently, but right now it is back to using the usual network. There is only one LMS on the network (AFAIK ;) It's a very mild annoyance, but it sure is puzzling. Excellent. One more problem solved that I didn't know I had ;) I never watch the screen of the ATV when I use it (rarely) as an SB player. Hi Philippe, I don't know for how long I went without noticing volume feedback, it is a great addition to the plugin. My Libratone Loop is happy with it, but it looks like my Zipp mini refuses to send feedback on volume commands. Is there a way to debug this and help make it work? You have LMS and the bridge running on a linux machine, right? Then acquiring the tcpdump program could be as easy as "sudo apt-get install tcpdump". I'm running 0.2.0.2-dev3 and I am very, very happy with it. With airplay bridge I have to rely on iPeng as my main control interface, and I've put 2 SB3s in a sync group with 2 libratone devices. All players are set to power on/off separately, however I've had one SB3 or the other power up by itself (?) and start play with the group. Is it possible -dev3 could cause that kind of behavior?? (I've seen it happen 3 times already, however a lot is new in my setup: LMS version, this way of using sync groups and iPeng. I'm back to my Zipp mini. Installed the plugin version 0.2.0.1, removed players audio delays that were formely needed, and bingo, I've got the zipp and a Loop to play in sync. Bidirectional control works fine. My zipp mini seems happy with the plugin. I cold-started the whole network: servers, AP, and audio devices. Discovery went fine. On my network and LMS there is no upnp/chromecast stuff (that I know of). There is one or two itunes/OSX instances that I almost never use for audio. There are 2 ipads, sometimes an iphone. Hmm. Sorry I can't assist, I'm far from my Zipp mini right now. There is no way the model is called shairplay, though. The state machine seems a bit complex, however with dev-5 I was able to get an automatic silent start. It is not so easy, I am also getting start at normal volume after a pause/restart. I *think* the key is in the LMS player power state alone. LMS remembers the player power state and it is potentially desynced with device state. I have set the LMS player to "stop at power off/remain stopped at power on" for my Zipp, I don't know how to tell the server "don't mess with it" any more than that. Yet still upon bridge or device restarts both power and play states are a bit fuzzy... I need to sit down and record scenarios/states. I'm happy to report bidirectional control from Zipp (2013) and Loop wifi+BT (2015) work fine with dev-4!! I am using the statically compiled binary, it works fine with mp3s. (the AMD Geode doesn't have all multimedia extensions expected from an i586, AFAIK) I think I see something like castalla, where the player starts at volume 0. I have noticed the volume slider on iPeng or the web interface doesn't move when the volume is adjusted with vol up/down buttons. Volume adjustment work fine as well as mute. Power and play status on the Zipp don't seem to be reported/synchronized so well. Since the Zipp has almost no interface of its own, and considering the player doesn't roam properly between multiple APs, my ideal usage scenario would be: i. keep the device off when not in use, ii. move it to the appropriate location and power it on, iii. Zipp gets re-included to the sync group, iv. it starts playing if the group is already playing something. I can't get step iv. to happen automatically. The LMS player appears as playing and powered up, but in fact it is in sleep mode. philippe_44, thanks for your continued work on the plugin! I have downloaded and ran 0.2-dev on a PC Engines Alix (AMD Geode ~i586/256MB Ram) and the bridge runs fine and is extremely efficient. I have here an Airport Express 1392, a Libratone Loop (2015, wifi+BT) and a Libratone Zipp (2013, wifi-only, same device as user woodster) to play with. Sync between a Boom and Zipp has shown to be excellent in my first tests. I have 2 issues: - I understand you've achieved 2-way control. However, pressing a volume button on the Zipp does not change volume, it puts the Zipp in a sort of limbo. The player is still seen as powered on, but the led on the device is "breezing" as if it were in sleep mode. To recover control the only way I've found for now was to reboot the player. - This player only likes AAC or PCM I think. I had to remove flc from the list of codecs for that player. I can play BBC Radio in sync with this setting. But I fail to play MP3 radios... (so the sync group doesn't start). 3 questions: - can I help debug the device control panel situation? What should I do for that? - do you know if the solution to this MP3 thing resides in plugin codecs settings, in server file formats, or somewhere else? - The Loop is not my priority, as it is hooked to an SB3. Would you like me to test it as well? Hold your horses right there.
Assuming you're using the same Debian Jessie as I am... here is how to
install the plugin:
1) *VERY IMPORTANT.* Define a password for root. I've met a bug in the
install script that hosed /etc/sudoers. Once /etc/sudoers is corrupt,
you can't sudo anymore to repair it...
But you can "su root". So define a root password, or live dangerously
and be ready to repair sudoers from the drive offline.
To define a password for root: "sudo passwd"
2) There seem to be a bug at line 167 in spc-functions.sh.
(/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/SrvrPowerCtrl/scripts/unix/spc-functions.sh)

3) Now go to your LMS interface, then Settings>Advanced>Server Power
Control, and click the link in the page head that says "Help with
SrvrPowerCtrl" or something like this.
This opens a new page, with install instructions. You'll just have to
follow it. (but read on the next point before that)
4) For me, the install test step "sudo -u squeezeboxserver
/usr/local/sbin/spc-test.sh" ends in error. As much as I understand the
situation: gharris999 is moving the debian installs from systemV to
systemd, but spc-test.sh still tries to "shutdown -k now" (simulate
shutdown) which is not one of the commands allowed in /etc/sudoers
(everything is migrated to "systemctl ")
I can't be bothered to research how systemd renamed shutdown options so
I left it at that.
You should have a working srvPowerControl in spite of detected the
failure.
NOTE: If you review /etc/sudoers, you might want to correct the line
that reads "systemctl hibrid-sleep", probably due to a typo in the
install script.

It's been my experience too that 2 bridge plugins installed on 2 LMS on the network will discover the same devices, and confusion ensues. You could disable some players in each running plugin, to dedicate LMS1 to players near the Gym, and LMS2 to players near the Lobby. That should fix the random location at startup. I don't think connecting a player to another LMS server can work. If you are saying there is a slight delay, but this delay is absolutely stable, then I suggest you touch up Settings>this player>Synchronize>Player Audio Delay (ms) and add there the few 10s of millisecs that account for transport time within the PC. I was one more time trying to post how good, not exactly perfect, but so satisfying, was Airplay Bridge when syncing SB hardware with Airplay hardware. This time I had the idea of recording how sync fares. I guess it's better than words. For anyone interested, 'this Sync.m4a file located on dropbox' (https://www.dropbox.com/s/sz36gq5hopv3czg/Sync.m4a?dl=0) is a 1min. 10, 550kB recording of me moving from a wired SB3 playing in the left corner of the room to the wireless Libratone Zipp playing in the right corner, about 4 m. away, iPhone in hand to record ambient sound. - 00:00 in front of the wired SB3 - 00:15 in front of the wireless Libratone Zipp - 00:22 back to the SB3 - 00:29 back to the Zipp - 00:35 to 00:45 at the SB3, fiddling with iPeng to locate the Next button - 00:50 in front of the Zipp to check sync - 00:55 to 10:03 at the SB3, trying and hitting the Pause button - 01:06 music just starts flowing again from the Zipp as I am already in front of it. So it took it some time to unpause, but it is in sync. (To be clear: it's a 64kbps mono recording, don't expect quality, here. What you'll mostly get is the impression that audio volume varies, but this is the result of me moving about 2 sources in sync.) One more SB3 is never a bad choice I would say. But given the environment you describe and the asking price for an SB these days, I would take a 2nd hand/refurbished Airport Express (2012-current model) and put that near the PC. You would get line out for the PC (digital or analog) and a boost to your wifi signal as a bonus. (You can disable wifi but then connectivity is limited to a 2-port 10/100 switch.) Here in FR the refurb store is depleted but months ago I got many of these, brand new in neutral packaging, for 79 after VAT. That's 62.95£, Google says. I would recommend you head over the Airplay bridge plugin thread if you have the slightest hesitation. (by "about perfect sync", I meant I can, from time to time, hear a L-R shift between sources when an airplay speaker is located less than 10 feet from a source driven by a synced SB3. If the distance is above 10ft, and surely at 15 ft. I can't hear this shift anymore. Well if you have AirPlay devices (not the shairplay software stuff but hardware devices) you could sync an SB3 about perfectly, using the AirPlay Bridge plugin. In iTunes, the output delay is auto-adjusted (or assumed?), so the only thing to check is stable sync with the local PC speakers. Assuming an Airplay device synching well under iTunes: in LMS/Airplay Bridge, if you don't touch player audio delay, you'll get players synched accurately but offset by some delay. You need to define this delay, which is around 350ms. Playing syncopated music helps finding the right spot. I repeat: if your device does not sync well under "pure" Airplay, the delay in LMS settings might help, but the end result won't be perfect. In my case with the Sabrent device, the delay setting is useless, it should be set to a negative value of about 1 second... And the device is not stable enough anyway, it can cut, or go out of wack at the beginning or end of songs. The good news: without volume set to minus 1, players perform as they should The bad news: at -1, none of my players output any audio (Airport Express, ATV4, Libratone zipp mini or Loop mk2) But maybe this is a blessing in disguise. The Libratone app allows me to control the Zipp mini directly (not the Loop). In the app I can see volume is reported at 100% at startup (I can dial it back with the app). 100% would be indeed ok, in some cases, for boxes that must have an amp in tow (AE, ATV). But it is kind of dangerous for airplay speakers... I've set log to debug but saw nothing out of the ordinary. I'll look at LMS players log and update this post if I find anything. I am beginning to have second thoughts about this request... Especially when the ultimate goal is, for me, to have all-round bidirectional control (volume, playback and all.) Here are 2 experiences that work fine for me, perhaps you'll see how to transpose that. 1) My Loop is hooked to an SB3: - Line-in and Airplay have their independent attenuation setting - Airplay has precedence over line-in on the device - When airplay streaming, the volume button on the target and the volume slider on the iPad are linked - When line-in is used, the volume button acts as the master on line-in - The SB3 is set to use digital volume control because the Loop doesn't have any remote, and I love the SB IR remote. (I have the master set to about 80%) Scenario: I listen to my SB3, at some volume. Then I hijack the target to send audio from a video I watch on the iPad, and usually I have to increase volume. Then I shutdown the airplay target, and music resumes at the prior level. 2) My ATV is hooked to an AV amp. I have set the device to fixed audio output, and control volume with my amp's IR control. Good! My Sabrent device running shairplay does not want to sync. You can try with itunes if you want to make sure. In itunes I wasn't able to play to the local PC speaker and to the shairplay target in sync. In this case, I don't think there is any chance an SB will sync correctly. My other airplay devices sync well under itunes, and they sync with my SB3s very accurately. Same room, same loudness sources apart > 3m and I can't hear a difference. You can start with a player audio delay around 350ms, that should put you in the ballpark (my various hardware players are set between 270 and 400.) For the Sabrent/shairplay device, no value will matter. It starts early and wobbles, under itunes or with the bridge. I'm not sure, but surely the plugin author will know best :) What you could do if you want to further on the topic is to set logging debug logging to "all items below", then retrieve the file and post it (or copy-paste a relevant part, since you can "view" the file in your browser) In my experience, discovery speed varies a bit between devices, and then there is always a delay before a software player gets added to the LMS interface. I would say that if you reload the LMS homepage after 15 minutes and still don't see your player, something is wrong. Can you explain what the Freebox Server thing is? (I wonder if it is not the multimedia box that comes with a broadband router; and in this case I suppose the device is not an official airplay device, but rather carries some version of the shairplay program. I have one such device running shairplay. I can get it to output audio only if I set "use encryption" for that device. This plugin is a miracle. It offers a true cross-platform experience for today's LMS users. It's a pity it doesn't want to take-off. I guess new users come to LMS because it is simply the best (and only?) open source and free audio server available. Add squeezelites running on Pis and you get the perfect audio system for the maker/tinkerer. Airplay is kind of expensive, and does not appeal to the same crowd. I suppose the old customer base is eroding, and people prefer to start anew rather than uplift the lifecycle curve of their existing LMS system with compatible devices. Back in the day, if you wanted networked audio, you basically had 2 choices.
