Looking forward to it! Having just got my Jive Hardware Beta, I've
installed 7.0 but I've kept 6.5 on my main machine because I can't live
without TrackStat et al.

I would love to continue to discuss this in more detail if you have
some things you would like to have or would like to be improved, but I
would suggest that you start a new thread instead of discussing it here
in the announcement thread. If you create the thread in the 3rd party
plugins section, I'll see it.

The current plan is to convert them as they are first and then extend
with new features as usual. I've started this job and unless something
goes wrong I expect 7.0 versions to be available for all my plugins
within the next month or so, the first ones might come with in the next
week or two. The only one I'm planning major changes in at the moment is
TrackStat where I would like to make the statistic views a lot more
configurable, similar to the Custom Browse configuration. However, I'm
not sure how much I'll be doing to the first 7.0 release as TrackStat
is critical if I should move my living room setup to 7.0

But, start a new thread if you like to continue to discuss this as I
imagine the discussion will be a bit hidden here in the announcement
thread.

Erland... I've found an existing variable that gives me the results I'm
looking for above. Could you add the "Minimum rating" drop down from
Advanced with Rating to the Lastfm Similiar Artists SQL playlist? This
produces the exactly the results I'm looking for (a more random blend
of ratings) Thanks!

I think so... to summarize: You can create a dynamic playlist that
selects only 4 and 5 star rated tracks and =name= it Top Rated by
entering "Top Rated" in the playlist group field, but you can't
actually edit the results of the trackstat "Top Rated" global parameter
at this point. Is that correct?

Thanks for your help.

When you create a new playlist with SQL Playlist, there is a parameter
called "Playlist group". By default this field is empty which means
that the playlist will be shown directly in "Dynamic Playlists", if you
set the playlist group to "Top Rated" your playlist will instead be
shown in "Dynamic Playlists/Top Rated".

What did you mean with this, have I answered it or ?

This was one of the reasons I implemented the Custom Skip plugin and
the percentage based skipping. The problem I realized on the way was
that Custom Skip is good for skipping a few tracks, but if you start to
skip a lot of tracks you will get in trouble. The reason you will get in
trouble is that it will take a lot longer to retrieve new tracks for a
dynamic playlist which results in that the sound from the SB stops for
a while in worst case.

Now when I think about it this could actually be the case with your
sound skipping problem if you have a Custom Skip filter setup that
skips a lot of track, is this the case ?

To implement a good "More like/Less like" functionality it needs to
base the selection on this, so it get the right tracks directly.
Currently for example "Random Songs" will get tracks from the whole
library and then start skipping most of them to comply with the "More
like/Less like" settings (the percentages in Custom Skip). It would
work a lot better if the situation was reversed so the "More like/Less
like" settings (precentages) were taken into account directly when
"Random Songs" retrieved more songs.

However, this isn't possible today. I still have this on my wish list,
but it can get pretty complicated to do this directly when retrieving
the tracks.

Erland, I don't quite understand what you mean by the "Playlist Group"
parameter? Honestly, the only Dynamic Playlists I use regularly are
three variations of Lastfm Similiar Artists (plain/top rated/not rated)
My SQL "skills" are limited to best-guess hacking of existing playlist

Thanks again for making such a wonderful suite of plug-ins.

P.S. Did you ever give any more thought to the idea of a More like this

I'm not sure I understand what you mean with this.

You could already today structure your own playlists into groups like
"Top rated", by entering something in the "Playlist group" parameter
when creating a playlist with SQL Playlist plugin. So if this is what
you mean, it works already today.

If you are talking about the TrackStat statistics and if you can setup
your own statistic entries, that's is planned. I would like TrackStat
to work pretty much the same way as Custom Browse. This way it can come
with a number of predefined statistic types and you can create new ones
based on templates or raw SQL. It's going to be a bit work to implement
this, but the current solution is a bit hard to maintain since I need to
change source code every time someone wants a change in a statistic
type.

Yes it would be possible.
The best way would be to make this as a separate plugin that hooked
into the Dynamic Playlist plugin.
However, since I don't use MusicIP much myself, this isn't on my
priority list. But if someone else likes to give it a shot, I'll answer
any questions.

The sound stops... usually at the beginning of the track. However,
reducing the values as you suggested previously seems to have helped
(fingers crossed). The problem has been there for quite some time
(several months), I've just been too lazy to complain about it :)

I understand your point regarding Top Rated behaviour. Not a problem.

In the future, might it be possible for users to define global
parameters like "Top Rated" themselves? Just curious.

Also: Crazy thought. Would it be possible to create a MusicIP dynamic
playlist? Where a seed would populate a plalist, with the last song in
the plylist populating the next round? Make sense?

I wonder if it would be better if you created a playlist manually in
SQL Playlist plugin for this.

With the "Advanced with rating" playlist template in SQL Playlist
plugin, you can create a playlist with random tracks with a minimum
rating of 4.

With the "TrackStat Top rated xxx" playlist templates in the SQL
Playlist plugin, you can create a playlist with random 400 top rated
tracks without affecting other playlists.

I don't think changing the behaviour on the built in "Top rated"
playlists available automatically like this would be a good idea. The
reason is that some users are going to expect it to play the tracks
each rating at the time. Personally I only use the rating values 4 3
and 2, which means that 4 is the good songs, other people might use the
ratings differently. So making the default "Top rated" playlist randomly
mix about the 2000 tracks that have ratings 4 or 5 might not fit for
everyone.

In the future, the plan is that it should be easy to create a SQL
Playlist based on the TrackStat dynamic playlist, this way you can
create your own customized version. But this will not be available in a
TrackStat version for SlimServer 6.5.

Just to be sure, when the player freezes, does this also mean that the
sound stops ? Or is it just the player interface that freezes ?
If the problem is just in the interface I don't think it will be worth
doing anything about it, the reason is simply that in this case there
will be a freeze, so it's just a matter of when it happens.

If the sound stops, this is a problem. Do you have the same problem
with the standard Random Mix plugin ?

It works perfectly in my own setup, so I think the reason it appears
for you is related to the SlimServer hardware, the network performance,
library size and playlist complexity.

Has this problem been here all the time or has it started in one of the
later releases ? If it has started in the later releases, have anything
else also changed in your setup or is it just the plugins that have new
versions ?

Have you tried changing the options in the TrackStat user interface:
- "Number of songs/albums/artists to use in dynamic playlists"

I'm not completely sure, but I think it will play the top xx tracks in
random order where xx is the number specified in this property. Of
course, this will affect all of the dynamic playlists provided by
TrackStat so it might make some other ones unusable.

Is this a problem with all dynamic playlists or just some ?

The reason it freezes is probably that the SQL takes to long time to
execute. The reason it freezes with FLAC but not with MP3's are
probably that the buffer can contain less music when using FLAC.

When new songs are added dynamically to the end of a Dynamic Playlist,

2007-07-09 Thread erland

A new version (1.13) of the DynamicPlayList plugin is now available, the
new functionallity and changes are:
- Corrected so disable link in web interface works
- Added new CLI command "continue" which continue which doesn't restart
the playlist if it is already playing
- Added support for connecting a remote button to a playlist using
SlimServers custom.map file
- Added support for remembering active playlist when restarting
SlimServer
- Added support for connecting a playlist sub group to a Custom Browse
menu
- Removed mixer on "Various Artist" element
- Corrected so stop actions are executed when a playlist has reached
its end (note that the action will be exected after the last track has
been added to the current playlist and not after the last track has
been played)

NOTE!
This version requires SlimServer 6.5.* to work

The new version is available at my 'download page'
(http://erland.homeip.net/download) as usual.

The users guide is available on my 'wiki'

The current wish/todo list for new features in comming DynamicPlayList
releases can be found here:

If anyone have more feature requests or if I have missed some feature
you already have requested which hasn't been implemented, please let me

some features on this list may never be implemented.

After not checking the downloads page for a while, I've just picked up
the latest version of everything (TrackStat, SQLPlaylist,
DynamicPlaylist in particular) and now I cannot get SQLPlaylists of
DynamicPlaylists to work. When I try to start one using the remote, say
"My Top Tracks", I get an error message on the SB saying "My Top Tracks
Failed". If I use the WebUI, no music start and the web page jumps back
to the main DynamicPlaylists page (whether I use SQLPlaylists or
DynamicPlaylists to try to start the playlist). Strangely, if I go to
the SQLPlaylists page and edit a playlist and press "Test" that works,
but I cannot play the playlist. I do not get any debugging messages
(after setting d_plugins). I will now try rolling back to earlier
versions of the plugins, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Plugin for easy creation of dynamic playlists

2007-03-30 Thread erland

A new version (1.12.1) of the DynamicPlayList plugin is now available,
there is no new functionallity just some error corrections:
- Corrected problem in Recently Added Albums/Artists skip filters for
Custom Skip, the problem resulted in that the filter didn't do any
skipping the first time songs where added to the playlist

The new version is available at my 'download page'
(http://erland.homeip.net/download) as usual.

The users guide is available on my 'wiki'

The current wish/todo list for new features in comming DynamicPlayList
releases can be found here:
http://erland.homeip.net/issuetracking/do/guest/home?application=slimserver-dynamicplaylist

If anyone have more feature requests or if I have missed some feature
you already have requested which hasn't been implemented, please let me
know. Also please note that it is a wish list and not a release plan, so
some features on this list may never be implemented.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Plugin for easy creation of dynamic playlists

2007-02-03 Thread erland

A new version (1.12) of the DynamicPlayList plugin is now available, the
new functionallity and changes are:
- Added support for using numerical buttons when navigating in
playlists that requests parameters
- Added support for 'PlaylistActiveLibrary' keyword that is replaced
with active library in Multi Library plugin
- Added support so 3rd party plugins can specify start/stop actions
that shall be executed when playlist starts/stops
- Added Custom Skip filter templates for
--- Recently played artist (Can by used to make sure a number of tracks
in a row is from different artists in random dynamic playlist)
--- Recently played album (Can be used to make sure number of tracks in
a row is from different albums in random dynamic playlist)
- Its recommended that you use SQL Playlist plugin if you use the
Custom Skip filters described above. You should connect a playlist to
these Custom Skip filters, setting these filters as global filters will
result in strange result when playing non random playlists. It is also a
recommendation that you have Custom Skip 1.3 or later installed if using
these Custom Skip filters.

The new version is available at my 'download page'
(http://erland.homeip.net/download) as usual.

The users guide is available on my 'wiki'

I like this - adding Random Mix and SQLPlaylist together in one browser window
(can't see why one would ever want static playlists in the same list though -
I've turned that option off). However, what happens with genre selection for
Random Mix playlists? Does it select all genres, or use the genre selection
from the Random Mix page?

I notice a typo in the plugin settings text: "DynamicPlayList is a plugin which
makes it easy to write your own dynamic playlist plugin and it below the
same menu as the other playlists"

Also, I have a question about the SQL Playlist plugin. My SQL playlists have
"limit 10" - is this necessary, as the SQL Playlist/Dynamic Playlist screens
have configurable limits (or should the SQL limit always be greater than the
upcoming tracks limit?).

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Plugin for easy creation of dynamic playlists

2006-03-05 Thread erland

I decided to implement a plugin to make it easier to make your own
playlists plugins such as SQLPlayList and RandomMix.

The main functionallity is:
- It collects all different types of playlists below the same menu,
today it implements support for Random Mix and saved playlists itself
and the SQLPlayList plugin also supports it starting with release 1.5.
- To implement your own dynamic playlist and add it to the menu, you
need to implement two methods in your plugin:

getDynamicPlayLists : Shall return all dynamic playlists implemented
by your plugin

getNextDynamicPlayListTracks : Will be called when new tracks for a
playlist is required and shall return the next tracks

All playlist management is handled by the DynamicPlayList plugin so you
don't have to handle it in your own plugin. A simple sample
implementation can be found in the included README.txt file.

The first version of DynamicPlayList plugin is now available for
download on 'my download page' (http://erland.homeip.net/download).

Thanks to mwphoto and gbronzer for the ideas.
