From Gavin news: Rodney Crowell has a rockin' new record coming soon that picks up where the Cicadas left off. That's all the info given. Jamie Stuart Munro wrote: Smilin' Jim asks: Hey I'm listening to Life Is Messy, Rodney Crowell's record from 1992 and IMO one of the best of the decade. g Anyway, haven't heard from him in a while, have we? anybody know what's up with him? I know he's been producing some lately but I was wondering about his recording career. You must have been reading my mind, Jim. I did some backfilling of the Crowell catalog by picking up *Life Is Messy* and *Jewel of the South* at a going-out-of-business sale last week, and every time I play 'em, I ask the same question: why doesn't this man have a record contract? As far as I know, he's still without one, unless he's still engaged as a member of the Cicadas. Stuart Munro

Rick Koster--This is the guy that said Wayne Hancock was Butch's little brother. Be careful with this book. Check out Larry Willoughby's Texas Rhytm-Texas Rhyme, A Pictorical History of Texas Music. I'm looking for a book about the history of Texas music, from Buddy Holly and T-Bone blues to current day. I can't remember the title, but I saw it in my local Borders store a few months ago. Yikes indeed. Just outta curiosity, if country is out, what's "in" instead? What I'm finding out is that the folks that tend to call this station are really against anything, music or involvement that is of a local/community nature. Strangest thing I've ever come across. Seems that many people who make a living off the Indians don't like being reminded that they're in the west. The blatant paternalism is truly offensive, especially to someone who has only lived in the west.My first day here all I heard was "well, local programming is ok as long as it isn't Country and Western" about seven people said that to me in day. The folks that don't like the west want Classical and Jazz programming, especially if it is NPR produced. Very strange indeed. Hey you are headin west aren't you? Have a great time in Alpine and Austin. Jamie

Hey Tom, That's just about right--Billy Eckstine of the Plains. The cd has several duets including Little Texas, MM Murphy, Take 6, Sons of the San Joaquin, Rex Allen Jr. The Mills Brothers and Cleve Francis. It is jazzy but sort of fun at the same time. Certainly not historical , but does reflect the Hollywood take on the genre. By the way thanks for the xmas card and news clipping, I think I have a couple of items to send along for your files.
