accessibility of the Universal Audio Apollo x8p 16x22 and the Focusrite Clarett+ 8Pre audio interfaces and included software and plugins
Hi, I was looking for a replacement audio interface for my Digi 003 and was looking into the Universal Audio Apollo x8p 16x22 audio interface as I want to get something much better for my new mac book pro that I plan to get soon. At this point I am not worried if Pro Tools will work right out of the box with it as my current late model 2011 17 inch with 16 gigs of ram and the 750 gig spinning drive Pro Tools does not run on it anymore regardless of what version I install for 10.13.6 so I am alright waiting for that. My main issue at this current time is the hardware and was looking into the Universal Audio Apollo x8p 16x22 audio interface and was wondering how accessible this is with voice over and are the included plugins usable or can I use my native Avid plugins if I am alright with those results? If this is not the best brand for vocals and musical recording then what interface is? I was also looking at the Focusrite Clarett+ 8Pre audio interface so the same questions are for that one how accessible is the included software and if I just want to use the Avid native plugins that come with Pro Tools can I do this with this interface also? If anyone else also has other suggestions I am open to these as I am not into one brand I am into getting what I need done. Re: Error message related to accessibility when pressing Default button in the I/O setup in PT2024.3 with Ventura
Hi John, I tried it with Ventura just as Martin and I’ve had no issues. I do recall that there was, at one time, a similar such situation where the sudden appearance of a dialog would yield an error like this and the workaround was to simply turn off VoiceOver before issuing the command, then turning VoiceOver on and things proceeded as normal. I don’t know why you’re specifically getting this error on your system but it appears not to be a general bug. I’m not sure if you have a current subscription but it might be a good idea to forward that error message to Avid’s tech support. Hello John André! Running latest Ventura and Pro Tools here. The i/o default button and importing session data works as expected. Maybe a routing issue with the Voice Over speech and sound output? Birmingham City University: Exploring Novel Technology for the accessibility of DAW, Looking for collaboration with Visually impaired creatives
Hello, I would like to invite you to an exciting new study as part of my PhD. My research explores interactive approaches with DAW and accessibility. More specifically, I am exploring the use of vibrotactile feedback as a tool that offers an alternative modality from the screen readers and facilitates the use of DAW, such as the interaction with audio effects parameters. My aim is to work closely with visual impaired used that have DAW experience and collaborate in the design, testing and implementation of a new haptic system. If you are interested, please let me know at christina.karpod...@bcu.ac.uk , and I will provide more information about the proposed study and aims. Feel free to forward the email to anyone that might be interested. Re: ProTools Accessibility
You can't do too much with the free version of protools using voiceover, mostly because it won't let you change some important settings that you need for accessibility. The advanced version is available at an annual subscription paid monthly. I know you have had some trouble with your currency, so I understand this could be a problem. Hi again, I'm fine thanks. I hope all is well with you. Thank's for the information. I have some idea of what I can do with Pro Tools. Hi, how are you? You should be able to compose music in pro tools. If you have a native instruments controller, now you should be able to record your musical ideas, directly from the native instruments komplete kontroler. If you have access to one it will work directly with pro tools. You’ll also be able to not only hear little clips of instruments but you’ll be able to control the volume, as well as any fx, that you might want to use. ProTools Accessibility
hi all, First of all, please accept my apologies for my bad english. I am doing my master's degree in music education at Ankara Music and Fine Arts University in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. This year, our teacher wants us to learn the ProTools program in the music technologies class in education. but unfortunately I am the first blind student of the university to study in this field and our teacher is not knowledgeable or willing to teach ProTools for blind people. I downloaded the free version of ProTools to my computer because my financial situation was not very good. Is there a way to use the advanced version of ProTools for mac for free? In the final exam, what is expected from us is to open a midi file that we prepared before with ProTools, to play the parties with various instruments and to add a sound recording to the project. Of course, if I can go further than that with the free version, I'd like to go. I follow the potcasts on your web page but I'm not sure it will be enough. Accessibility of Waves Tune
Hi all, I use Pro Tools and Flo Tools. Recently I bought Waves Tune. I made a test project, made a vocal track, and inserted Waves Tune into it. I succeeded in playing the vocals and scanning the pitch. When I played it after scanning, I could see that the pitch was corrected. But pitch correction didn't come to my mind. So I decided to create one MIDI track and send the data from that track to Tune. But I couldn't find any MIDI settings in Tune's plugin window. Fwd: [rwp] Accessibility support in juce framework is real - link to working beta for developers
Hi there, This is something we've all been waiting for. It's not quite ready yet, but things are moving in the right direction. Cheers, JPR Message transféré Sujet : [rwp] Accessibility support in juce framework is real - link to working beta for developers Date : Tue, 23 Mar 2021 23:23:58 -0400 De :Rich Caloggero Répondre à :r...@groups.io Pour : r...@groups.io Juce is a UI framework upon which many audio plugins are based. It makes very nice GUIs, but until now has had absolutely *no* accessibility support; it just makes nice pictures that can only be used via mouse. Here is a beta release which apparently has accessibility support. If anyone here knows any plugin devs who use juce in their product, perhaps they could test this release and allow some real users to beta test for accessibility. This could be a huge win for us I think. Accessibility of ProTools First with voiceover on the Mac
I’m sure this has been discussed before, but I was wondering if ProTools first is accessible using voiceover on the Mac, just like the standard version is? Other than track counts and sample rate, are there any other major drawbacks to this version, if it is indeed accessible? Full NI accessibility in KK stand alone, no NI accessibility in Pro Tools
Hi, I have installed most recent version of both Pro Tools, Flo Tools and NI Komplete Kontrol on my new iMac, running Catalina. KK works as expected in stand alone, the accessibility feature starts when I press the two buttons on my S88. In Pro Tools however, the accessibility feature does not start when I am in the KK plugin and press the two buttons. When I open the preferences in the plugin, there is no hardware tag, so PT is probably not locating my S88. But it shows up both in the MIDI input source list in PT and in the Audio/MIDI setup panel of my Mac. I have tried everything I can come up with when it comes to checking the security settings of the system preferences on my Mac, and everything else that might stop the NI accessibility feature from starting up in Pro Tools. As someone who visually used both Cakewalk Pro Audio (now Sonar) and then Pro Tools, then shifted to Sonar with non-visual access and has now moved back to Pro Tools with non-visual access, I strongly recommend that you stick with the DAW you know. I'm not changing DAWs again for the remainder of my life on Earth, hence my perpetual Pro Tools HD license. One final thought on this. Not necessarily a deal breaker but if you are planning to work with sighted individuals or you want to demo Reaper then keep in mind that although you can access it, what you are doing has absolutely nothing to do with what is displayed visually on screen. This means that sighted people can’t actually see how you are working in Reaper. Yes, parameters show up as expected and you can adjust them with VoiceOver, so I don't see why you couldn't use fader flip on your control surface. As for master assistant you can't access it at all unless you install VOCR, which is useful for all sorts of things anyways. Re: iZotope Ozone 9 VoiceOver Accessibility in Pro Tools?
It depends on the modules, but most parameters are visible to automation which is good for us. features such as master assistant can be used with VOCR inside of Pro Tools. I would probably recommend the Advanced version since you get all modules as separate plug-ins besides the main Ozone plug-in which also contains all of them. This is very useful since adding, dragging, and removing modules from the chain is not accessible on the main plug-in. Re: iZotope Ozone 9 VoiceOver Accessibility in Pro Tools?
I can say based on their Elements plugins that accessibility in the PT plugin window is on par with Waves. If you don’t have their software manager, you’ll need a sighty to install the package, because it’s not a standard Apple installer. On the flip side, the manager software is easier to VO than AvidLink, and doesn’t require any sight after running the installer. As for their standalone editor apps, they’re 50% accessible. You can navigate controls and such, but the controls are geared toward looking at the waveform. Not much help on Ozone specifically I know, but thought I’d share my experience with the way their software is. Hi Slau, No, I don’t have access to the shared Dropbox folder. I stopped using Dropbox, because I didn’t want my clients to share folders on my system anymore. My account had been removed in the end, but i’m using Wetransfer a lot and have a paid subscription for the service. Works much better for me… Thanks so much for the replies, anyway! Hi All, I don't check this group regularly, so don't know if this has been discussed before. Re: O c r Apollo console accessibility.
A couple years ago when the soft tube one console got UAD integration we were discussing it on here and what I was told on this list made me decide it wasn’t worth the hassle. I just search the archives and found the excerpt: I've been using it for 2 months now and I do like it a lot. There will be a large learning curve because it's an extremely visual unit but you can get by enough to make it work. The bottom line is you'll have to get lots of sighted assistance to set it up, especially if you're working through the UA console. Once it is set up you can save your settings and they will be restored when you launch it. The nobs are all continuous so you will never know where you are which is the biggest problem. You can't flatten out an EQ once you have turned a nob but you can bypass it with a button. The only way to get around this is to actually go back to a preset and come back in but of course you will have lost all of your settings. I strictly use this on input signals so I can quickly dial in some EQ and compression. If you're going to use it as a plugin on a track I believe it's not worth the trouble because it's quite time consuming to figure out where you are this time. You may have better luck combining it with OCR, but still sounds like it may be a slow workflow, vs using the UAD plug ins in the DAW where they are accessible and then you can use with a control surface to speed up workflow. However the Unison aspect is not available in the DAW I am aware. Keep us posted on your experiences. > On Mar 6, 2020, at 12:28 PM, Devin Oxman wrote: > > It's fairly easy to adjust toggles, but sliders and nobs are still > inaccessible. Re: O c r Apollo console accessibility.
It's fairly easy to adjust toggles, but sliders and nobs are still inaccessible. I just bought a soft-tube console one as it has a mode which can control UAD software and I'm hoping that it will increase the parameter access. Hi Steve, I've been able to add inserts to the unison slot, change mono to stereo, turn input monitoring on/off, things of that sort. Still can't access the mixing matrix. I'd love to hear from Joe as well as to what they have working. Chuck, I haven't heard anything about Luna, but will drop Scott a friendly email in the morning. Will of course post any updates here. Hi Steve, Joe out in LA has been using the Apollo console; for a while now. Thats all I know! If you want more details you'll half to ask him. He's on this list. yep makes sense to me Slau. Actually I didn’t know that track numbering feature was there. I tried that out strait away. how much easier it makes things. I wish i’d known about this before. Re: I need some quick feedback from the folks on the list for an upcoming accessibility consideration in Pro Tools
Hello Slau! Your thoughts sound sensible to me. Thanks and best! / Martin On Feb 25, 2020, at 12:56 AM, Slau Halatyn wrote: The programming team reached out to me with a question regarding the upcoming new folder tracks feature and the ramifications of a new option. I gave them my personal opinion and I'm confident that others will agree. That said, I told them I'd get some quick feedback from the community just in case. Currently, if track numbers are checked under the View menu, track numbers appear next to all shown tracks. If a track is subsequently hidden or shown, the numbers rearrange to reflect an incrementing number for each shown track. There's an option in the Preferences for track numbers to remain with hidden tracks. When selected, obviously, all track numbers stick with tracks regardless of whether they're showing or not. So, if i may quickly interject, track numbers would generally be of no particular concern to VoiceOver users except if they use a control surface, in which case, one would generally opt to have track numbers rearrange and not remain with hidden tracks. In other words, if a track is shown, you'd normally want the number in the track list or Mix window to equal the position of the track on a control surface so that track 7 is fader 7 or track 16 is fader 8 in the second bank, etc. OK, now there's a new issue. With the new folder tracks option, a folder can be open or closed. When a folder is closed, its tracks are hidden. This hidden state is not explicit but a result of the folder being closed. In other words, you can choose to explicitly hide tracks 2, 4, 6 and 8 within a folder, close the folder and tracks 1 through 8 will be hidden and not even appear in the Mix window. Upon opening the folder, only tracks 1, 3, 5 and 7 would be shown because the even-numbered tracks were explicitly hidden. This is simply to illustrate that there's a new layer of track numbering to contend with. Now, there was a suggestion in the beta to have an option for track numbers to remain with closed folders. There's perhaps an argument to be made that this might be helpful to some users. The question posed was whether this potential option might have any implications for blind users. Again, to offer my personal take, I think it makes no difference whatsoever to blind users whether track numbers remain with closed folders as it is theoretically no different than what the behavior is with explicitly shown or hidden tracks. In other words, if a track is hidden (be it because of a closed folder or because of its show/hide status), if your preference is for tracks to always increment sequentially, based on their visibility, it will still behave as it always has. If, on the other hand (for whatever reason), you prefer to have track numbers remain with hidden tracks (regardless of whether it's because you've explicitly hidden them or because you've closed a folder, you can still have that behavior as well. This may all seem like a very obvious non-issue and I've essentially indicated that much to Avid. However, if there's anyone who sees a potential oversight, please make your argument here within the next 24 hours. I need some quick feedback from the folks on the list for an upcoming accessibility consideration in Pro Tools

Re: major accessibility issues with the Avid download page for Pro Tools 2019 with screen readers
Hi, Like I said I was able to do the downloads but like Chuck said things could be improved. Really the web site should be fully accessible for all browsers regardless of the platform. I was wondering if there is a way for Pro Tools to check for updates and download them or at least let us know when an update is out? For those of us using the educational license that web site where you go to enter in your school's e-mail address could be more usable as well as having a support desk for help with it as I had to have a sited person help me with it. The new Pro Tools 2019.12 works great on 10.13.6 and so far I have had no major issues with it. Hi Nick, There's no reason to attempt to access iLok licenses from the Avid web site. The iLok License Manager is fully accessible and you can use it to redeem, activate, deactivate licenses, etc. There's an mp3 in the Drop Box with a full demonstration on how to use it. Hope that helps, Slau > On Jan 13, 2020, at 10:09 PM, Nick Gawronski wrote: > > Hi, I finally got it to work there were portions of the site I had to move > threw and expand to find the proper download and I like it how Pro Tools has > a way to login to your ilok account and once that was done the ilok license > manager came up. Some web pages on accessibility information are http://w3.org/WAI and http://www.webaim.org and I have written the webmaster address at avid.com and did not get any message back so can someone please tell me how I am to access and download the software and bundles with voiceover? I even tried using windows 10 pro 64 bits to try to download the files to no luck. Re: major accessibility issues with the Avid download page for Pro Tools 2019 with screen readers
Hi, What do you do if you just see Pro Tools down pointing black pointer and no headings on that product to interact with? In different portions of the page I see questionmarks listed as links and no matter what I do I don't see any downloads come up after interacting with those links and clicking them? Even my older Pro Tools downloads are not showing up as mac downloads but I do see them as past choices and the Pro Tools text is nothing I can interact with to click on. Actually, Nick, the web site works fine. As long as you're logged in, navigate to where you see the "Show" link and interact.. At that point, the link becomes clickable. You should have no issues whatsoever. Slau > On Jan 13, 2020, at 7:06 PM, Nick Gawronski wrote: > > Hi, If Avid people are on here please read this message! Re: Accessibility
AmpliTube probably has its own proprietary preset menu. If you had some sighted assistance, you could call up their presets and save each as a Pro Tools preset. There's a settings menu in the plug-in window which has various options and their shortcuts. Of course, any given AmpliTube version will have a boat load of presets so it would be a time-consuming endeavor but, depending on how much it's worth to you, calculate the investment of time vs. money. Re: Accessibility
AmpliTube software comes from IK multimedia. When I load the plug-in, and go over to the library, and hit VO space , all I get is factory default. I know you can write plug-in files for ProTools, but I'm not sure how to do it. I would like to know if anyone has had any experience with the Stephen slate mix plug-ins? Are they accessible in ProTools? Sounds interesting. I think it will be cool if it ever gets up and running. I can imagine it would take a massive amount of work. Anyway it’s great we have the amazing level of accessibility with PT on mac.
