Re: [qmailtoaster] Problem with Clamav-toaster on Centos6

Thanks so much for the patch. Considering this was sent on Dec 26, I can't
understand why the distribution on the qmt website hasn't been fixed.

The problem is that the included patch is not 100% rediffed against version
0.97.3 of clamav… e.g. some lines are off.
This causes the patch utility to fail, as the allowed amount of 'fuzz' (e.g.
allow patches to apply to be a couple lines off the expected place) on CentOS 6
is zero.

Anyway,

use the attached patch instead of the old one (replace the clamav patch file in
the SOURCES folder within your rpm build directory) and try again…

Re: [qmailtoaster] Future Distros - RHEL/CentOS ONLY

2012-02-19 Thread Nigel Reed
You're right, it's probably about time to migrate away from qmailtoaster.
Mandriva is very much alive and kicking, thank you very much.

The reason a lot of people are not using qmail, I'm sure, is because Mandriva
comes with postfix installed and as you've seen by my experience trying to get
this damn thing compiled, it's a pain in the ass. There's too many bits to bolt
together for most people. A binary packages would be very welcome, I'm
sure...As we speak, I'm having trouble getting the latest clamav to compile.

According to this website, Mandriva is more popular then CentOS. Maybe you just
don't hear from from Mandriva people because they actually have a clue. I bet
most people running CentOS or Ubuntu are just tinkering around with it.

Mandriva is on the ropes, struggling to survive. If you presently have a QMT
running on Mandy, I would seriously consider a migration in the near future.

[qmailtoaster] qmail and spamassassin

2011-09-16 Thread Nigel Reed
Has anyone tried the latest SpamAssassin 3.3.2 on qmail? Since it seems I'm the
only person who is using Mandriva and QMT seems to be a little behind, I might
as well just go it alone from here on out, but interested to know if anyone has
tried it yet.

Let me know when you're done and let me at the src.rpm and I'll see if I can

Yeah, thanks. :( And 2.0.10 just came out 3 days ago!
There's nothing changed that comes into play for a stock QMT though.

I have a few tweaks to do to the configuration files, so I'll be doing those
changes with 2.0.11, and should have rpms ready for general use by the end of
the week, and hopefully in a day or two.

That's a pretty general-purpose script, and would probably be better suited for
Nigel/Mandriva than the script that's included in the rpm, which came from
fedora14.

Ah I thought I remembered seeing something about no -devel package, but that
was
in relation to vpopmail so ignore me. If it's ready to go...where is it? Why
doesn't someone pull the trigger on it?

That said, what happens to the packages that require courier-imap?

maildrop-toaster requires courier-imap to build
control-panel-toaster requires courier-imap to install

Is there anything courier-imap specific in there or can we have them require
imap-server ?

Aww crud! I don't believe it!

I just downloaded 2.0.9 and have just got through testing it on Mandriva and
reporting back!

I had to change permissions on /home/vpopmail and

So, what's the holdup? :D

This is so so so much earlier than courier-*.

Do you have an existing, .rpm file for dovecot? I'd like to maybe adapt it for

I thought it was finally time to make a new v2.0 release. Or probably it
was a while ago already, but I've been a bit lazy this year. Maybe it's
because this is the first time in last 5 years when all branches of
Dovecot have been quite stable and I haven't been stressing on it. Of
course there are some v2.0 features that still have some bugs, but few
people are complaining about them.

v2.1 development branch also appears to be pretty good shape. I'm
hopeful that v2.1.rc1 will be out before summer.

* LMTP: For user+detail@domain deliveries, the +detail is again written
  to Delivered-To: header.
* Skip auth penalty checks from IPs in login_trusted_networks.

+ Added import_environment setting.
+ Added submission_host setting to send mails via SMTP instead of
  via sendmail binary.
+ Added doveadm acl get/set/delete commands for ACL manipulation,
similar to how IMAP ACL extension works.
+ Added doveadm acl debug command to help debug and fix problems
with why shared mailboxes aren't working as expected.
- IMAP: Fixed hangs with COMPRESS extension
- IMAP: Fixed a hang when trying to COPY to a nonexistent mailbox.

- doveadm: Fixed giving parameters to mail commands.
- doveadm import: Settings weren't correctly used for the
  import storage.
- dsync: Fixed somewhat random failures with saving messages to
  remote dsync.
- v2.0.9: Config reload didn't notify running processes with
shutdown_clients=no, so they could have kept serving new clients
  with old settings.

That script is on it's way to being deprecated, I hope.

You can use qtp-newmodel for new installs as well as upgrades. With
mandriva the unionfs option won't work though, so you'll need to use a
linked (preferred) or copied sandbox. :(

If you'd like to help out, (I think) I wouldn't mind adding mandriva
support to the qtp scripts. I have no experience with mandriva though.

Yes, it works for me now.

That said, it still highlights a weakness in the download script :)

Have at it. I've added a link to this page under the Configuration->

Nope, /var/log/maillog is empty. Then again, I didn't have logwatch installed.
Since it only scan logfiles anyway, I just need to know where pop3 is logging
or
where to turn it on.

I think you'll find them in the /var/log/maillog file. Logwatch should be

I'll take a look at it and try to contribute back as long as I can get some
good
support if I try to get it working.

Many people are already using Dovecot. There is documentation on the
wiki concerning how to do this yourself.

As has been already stated, QMTv2 will not be available for Mandriva
unless you (or someone else) choose to make it so.

Given that courier will be replaced by dovecot in the long term, I doubt it.

[qmailtoaster] What invokes SpamAssassin?

2011-01-03 Thread Nigel Reed
Can't seem to figure this out. How is Spamassassin called as mail goes through
the qmail system? After a rebuild, I'm not seeing any SA headers in incoming
email.

spamassassin -D --lint doesn't show any errors and includes all the modules
that
are needed.

[r...@wibble spamd]# more current

The spamd log looks ok...can't figure out what's missing.

Nice list. It would be more useful to me to have a list of perceived pros and
cons in regard to qmail setup and over all usage.

I wouldn't have time to check them all out, but I bet someone has :)

Thanks,

Sure.

Yes, it does - which is why I've submitted a bunch of 2010 stuff for you :)

Dovecot is available as a package for Mandriva 2010 so you can probably start
with their base source rpms.

[qmailtoaster] courier-authlib-toaster fails on Mandriva 2010

2009-11-12 Thread Nigel Reed
I've opened a bug report as a reminder but thought I'd throw it out here
anyway. libtool is now at 2.2.6 on Mandriva 2010 which, I guess, is causing a
problem at compile time.

Compiling gdbmobj.c
./libtool: line 469: CDPATH: command not found
./libtool: line 1147: func_opt_split: command not found
libtool: Version mismatch error. This is libtool 2.2.6, but the
libtool: definition of this LT_INIT comes from an older release.
libtool: You should recreate aclocal.m4 with macros from libtool 2.2.6
libtool: and run autoconf again.

More info is in the ticket.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: Sort of OT - Qmail to Joomla

2009-11-10 Thread Nigel Reed
I didn't ask for a conversation on whether Joomla sucked or not.

Anyway, I've written a little PERL script to add all the users in the database
to the mailing list, and any who are on the list that are not in the database
are deleted. Pretty simple. Just run it in a cron every 10 minutes and that'll
work for me. I guess the answer to my original question is no.

Thanks,
Nigel

[qmailtoaster] spamassassin stopped working...

2009-11-10 Thread Nigel Reed
Partly my fault actually. Tried to install mailman and it decided to install
postfix also, then proceed to blow away qmail and friends.

I reinstalled everything that it removed but I don't see spamassassin working,
nothing in the headers. Any idea what I might be missing?

Thanks,
Nigel

Since the club is a non-profit with very little income, I don't have much of an

[qmailtoaster] clamv & Mandriva 2009.1 fails

2009-11-10 Thread Nigel Reed
For some reason in Mandriva 2009.1 and 2010 the libgmp3 development package is
named libgmp-devel rather than libgmp3-devel. This simple change in the spec
file allows clamv to compile.

Thanks for adding Mandriva 2009, btw. :)

[qmailtoaster] Sort of OT - Qmail to Joomla

2009-11-09 Thread Nigel Reed
This is a good question for anyone who likes a brain teaser.

Current situation: I'm using a template driven website that many other clubs
use. My site looks like everyone elses. We add members and their email
addresses, then we can send an email to c...@myclubssite.com and it'll go to
the members. Only people whose email addresses are registered can sent.

Now, I am moving to Joomla, and I would like a similar setup, I will move the
domain over, but I have no idea how I can interface Joomla with Qmail. My first
instinct is to do an SQL query and select the email addresses from the Jooma
database into the qmail aliases database. This wouldn't stop others from
sending email to that alias.

I'm open to ideas and suggestions.

Regards
Nigel

Re: [qmailtoaster] qtp-restore error - blank pages after logging into webmail

2009-05-25 Thread Nigel Reed

Have you tried looking in the web server error logs to see what the problem is?

I found that adding the select range plugin for Squirrelmail messed it up. You
can often get a clue to which module is messing up by checking the logs.

Nigel

Re: [qmailtoaster] Qmail Tap - bcc

2009-05-13 Thread Nigel Reed

If you can't get an answer here's a solution, not exactly the answer you were
looking for tho. Check /var/log/qmail/send and match the outgoing email
addresses against those already logged. If you find some that are included in
the log but not the outgoing messages, there's your possible leak.

The question is, how does the boss know it's not you who is doing the leaking?
;)

Comment out 200.12.224.5 and see if that works. It doesn't look like it's
forwarding the request to get the MX.

The first look up through that server just says no answer and tells you where

[qmailtoaster] Back up and running + New Squirrelmail released

2009-05-12 Thread Nigel Reed

I just noticed a new Squirrelmail was released today.

Anyway, I finally got things back up and running. The main fix for the problems
getting courier to compile was to run aclocal in each directory and rebuild the
source package. I'm sure there's a way to do it through the rpm system but I
wouldn't know how. There were a few other issues that I resolved in a similar
manner.

So, the panic is off but it'd be nice to get Mandriva up to 2009.1.

Thanks,
Nigel

I've been using Mandriva since I picked up a copy at "Half Price Books". It was
version 6.5. I found it very easy to use and configure, it's been very stable
and I've not had any hardware issues with it at all.

With all due respect, I would like to see qmail toaster work on all the latest
versions of all the operating systems. I'm not sure it needs to be limited to
one or two.

[qmailtoaster] Possible Solution Re: [qmailtoaster] Problems building courier-authlib on Mandriva 2009.1

2009-05-11 Thread Nigel Reed

After running rpmbuild -ba --with mdk103 ...spec and getting the error I want
into ../BUILD/courier... then into the subdir that failed and ran

aclocal
make

This completed, so I went back a level and ran make again until it failed with
a similar error, then went in and did another aclocal.

Once the package compiled I zipped it up and replaced the distribution in
SOURCES, ran rpmbuild again and it compiled.

I am doing a similar thing with courier-imap

One thing I did do was use courier-authlib-62.2 rather than 59.2.

Whether it'll run or not, I don't know, but it compiled!

I must have got an older version of the download script. I'll start again with
the releases with Mandriva 2007 and then go from there.

[qmailtoaster] Problems building courier-authlib on Mandriva 2009.1

2009-05-11 Thread Nigel Reed

I'm having a number of issues trying to get various packages to build on
Mandriva 2009.1 - I'm really stuck since my mail server is down until I can get
all these issues resolved. Here's issue 1.

I'm building --with mdk103 since that's the latest supported version.

Any clue on how to fix this would be very much appreciated.

That's the sum of your complete knowledge of

change my operating system?

THanks, bud, for a useless response.

It seems that I needed to install the perl
Mail::DomainKeys module. It'd be nice if the installer
checked since that's a dependency.

Would have saved me a couple of hours and some lost
email.

This could be because I am running qmail only on one

and another IP address? This box has two interfaces
and a different smtpd needs to run on the other ip.

[qmailtoaster] Runtime problems on Mandrake 2007.1

2007-07-13 Thread Nigel Reed
Hi there,

This is a pretty urgent problem since my mail server
is now down. I am running Mandrake 2007.1 and had to
make a few minor changes to some of the .spec files to
get them to compile. The notable ones are that I am
using MySQL 5 5.0.23 and libopenssl0.9.8  0.9.8e.

Everything compiles but I have a couple of problems.

in /var/log/qmail/send I get the following errors

BTW, this remote-auth, is that to allow me to relay messages to a mail

Awww man, I just installed all this stuff on Monday!

Has qmail-toaster been updated so that it "Provides sendmail-command" ?
This is needed for Mandrake 2006 since mail readers now require
"sendmail-command".

[EMAIL PROTECTED] SPECS]# rpm -q --requires mutt
sendmail-command

Thanks,

Wouldn't it just be easier to delete the *.log and *.old files from
/usr/share/toaster/mrtg rather than remove the whole package? This is
where the timestamps are stored. By putting the clock back, you're going
to get the same timestamps, hence the timewarp error message.

I would say the error is trivial tho it may skew the results.

Ah okey thanks. I did create a bunch of symlinks to make sure it was

[qmailtoaster] mrtg not working for me

2006-04-25 Thread Nigel Reed
Greets,

Trying to run the toaster mrtg on my system and I'm not getting images.

I've set-up toaster.conf in a virtual domain and everything else seems
working, except I don't get the mrtg images.

The images are generated and stored in /usr/share/toaster/mrtg but it
looks like they're trying to be read from /usr/share/toaster/htdocs/mrtg/

Sure, I could fix this with a symlink easy enough but rather have it
fixed in the source.

[qmailtoaster] Moving machines...

2006-04-25 Thread Nigel Reed
Greets all, I'm moving and renaming some machines and just want some
advice on qmail config.

Currently, I have a machine that is, lets say, in the original.com
domain. I have a virtual domain on that machine handled by
qmail/vpopmail we'll call vpopmail.com

Now, the machine I am going to move and rename to be a vpopmail.com
machine. Since the /var/qmail/control files will have vpopmaill.com as
the name of the machine, I want to ensure email is still delivered to
the virtual domain directories.

How can I achive this without mail doing to the wrong place?

[qmailtoaster] OT: CentOS question

2006-02-15 Thread Nigel Reed
I've been asked to install CentOS on a machine with 4 hard disks, they
want RAID 5 on it. 3 disks plus the hot spare. My understanding is that
you cannot boot from disks that are in the RAID array but would need
it's own disk?

I'm asking here because I know many of you are using CentOS. Any tried
booting from a USB pendrive in lieu of a boot disk? How about swap, that
cannot be on a RAID partition either, right?

Appreciate follow-ups in private so not to disrupt the list too much :)

I didn't call anyone stupid, I called the answer stupid. As I reported

qmail-1.03 and it's fixed, I don't want to have to remember to do that

Re: [qmailtoaster] Bogus HELO?

2005-12-13 Thread Nigel Reed
You'd need to stop qmail before you can bind on port 25. This is just to
demonstrate what was happening with qmail.

So
/etc/init.d/qmail stop
nc -l -p 25

This'll only work on a remote server since qmail delivers locally
otherwise and bypasses the smtpd (as far as I can tell anyway).

Another poster did make a suggestion also and I forgot to mention you
need to restart qmail for the change to take effect.

[qmailtoaster] Relaying to a host that requires authentication

2005-12-08 Thread Nigel Reed
Not a Toaster question specifically, but thought I'd throw this one out
there.

Assume that my mail server is blacklisted for some reason and would like
to send email to that domain via another SMTP server, but that server
requires authentication before accepting the email.

How would I configure qmail to do this? Obviously I'd have to setup
smtproutes to send email for the domain to another relay, but then I
don't see a way to enter username/password for the host.

This is a guess and only a guess. In the header I see this:

Received: from unknown (HELO ns1.ndhsoft.com) (216.221.103.226)

However 216.221.103.226 resolves to dsl-103-226.srtnet.com. I doubt that's the
problem.

Send one to my yahoo.com account with the username of nelgin and I'll take a
look where it ends up and, possibly, why.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Port 465 and 587

2005-12-04 Thread Nigel Reed
Question is, where is he actually going to send the emails to? If there
isn't another mail server running on those ports then he's out of luck.

Not really sure what the OP is trying to achive. If port 25 is blocked
then his ISP wouldn't be able to relay mail anyway unless it is also on
another port.

It may be possible to use smtproutes to provide an alternative port
number.

Personally, I'd be more inclinded to use iptables to force outgoing
packets from port 25 to a different port, and likewise with incoming.
It's a cleaner option, IMHO.

Nigel

It's an inherent weakness in the SMTP protocol. If your domain is
abc.net and you receive email for that domain, then anyone can send an
email to an @abc.net address. Surely you've received spam with a forged
mail from: line.

Personally, I use strace to figure out these problems. I usually detect
exactly what the problem is. In this case, I'd shut down qmail and then
just start the smtpd daemon with strace and when there is a connect
error, I can see exactly what was trying to connect to what.

There's probably an easier way but that'll work.

[qmailtoaster] Odd problem with vpopmail

2005-11-18 Thread Nigel Reed
I installed vpopmail-toaster and friends on a server that was originally
running rph version (was available at rpmhelp.net which is now defunct).

Originally, I was running with --enable-many-domains so that I would
only have the one large vpopmail table rather than many smaller tables.

So, I edited the spec file for vpopmail to change these settings.

Now, it seems like vchkpw is having some issues with not finding some of
the domains. Just looking for someone who might have come across this
before.

Trying to send to sysadmininc.com which is one of the virtual domains...

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /var/qmail/control]# grep sysadmin *
rcpthosts:sysadmininc.com
virtualdomains:sysadmininc.com:sysadmininc.com

mysql> select pw_name, pw_dir from vpopmail where
pw_domain='sysadmininc.com';
++---+
| pw_name| pw_dir|
++---+
| betsey | /home/vpopmail/domains/sysadmininc.com/betsey |
| nigel | /home/vpopmail/domains/sysadmininc.com/nigel |
| postmaster | /home/vpopmail/domains/sysadmininc.com/postmaster |
| test | /home/vpopmail/domains/sysadmininc.com/test |
++---+

If I send mail to that domain then the logfile from
/var/www/qmail/smtp/current looks like this:

@4000437d934522ada1d4 tcpserver: status: 1/100
@4000437d934522adb174 tcpserver: pid 10431 from xx.0.29.xx

@4000437d93452d9e69d4 tcpserver: status: 0/100

So, everything is fine ([antispam] added for usual reasons).

Now, I'll do the same thing for another virtual domain.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /var/qmail/control]# grep ^british-expats.com *
rcpthosts:british-expats.com
virtualdomains:british-expats.com:british-expats.com

| postmaster | /home/vpopmail/domains/british-expats.com/postmaster |
| tester | /home/vpopmail/domains/british-expats.com/tester |
+--+--+

But I get the following error about not being able to find a table

@4000437d948606406914 tcpserver: status: 1/100
@4000437d9486064078b4 tcpserver: pid 10488 from xx.0.29.xx

@4000437d94870fa005dc tcpserver: status: 0/100

And I receive the following bounce...

<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
xx.56.190.xx does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 511 sorry, no mailbox here by that name (#5.1.1 - chkuser)
Giving up on xx.56.190.xx.

Just to prove I don't table a table for sysadmin, here's the list of
tables.

mysql> show tables;
++
| Tables_in_vpopmail |
++
| dir_control|
| lastauth |
| limits |
| relay |
| valias |
| vlog |
| vpopmail |
++

So, if someone can see the obvious thing I've missed, I'd appreciate any
ideas and suggestions. Finally, I did recompile courier-imap-toaster
against the vpopmail-toaster libs, FWIW.

[qmailtoaster] Getting /etc/passwd to work with courier-imap-toaster

2005-11-15 Thread Nigel Reed
OK, this is quite easy when you figure it out.

This works for Mandriva 2006.0 anyway

In the specfile you need to change --without-shadow to --with-shadow and
then rebuild the package and install it.

Then in the /var/qmail/supervise/imap4/run (and imap4-ssl and pop3d-ssl)
file you need to add /usr/lib/courier/authlib/authshadow to PASSPROG as
so

PASSPROG="/usr/lib/courier/authlib/authshadow \
/usr/lib/courier/authlib/authvchkpw"

This enables both /etc/passwd and vpopmail's vchkpw authentication.

In addition, the spec file is broken IRT using authpwd. The spec file
has --without-authpw but it should be --without-authpwd so that if
enabled, it'll work.

Hopefully you can incorporate these changes into the next release.

It would be nice to see the various authentication methods enabled or
disabled during the build process. For example, authvchkpw would be
enabled as default but you could also add --with authpwd on the command
line.

As far as I'm concerned, everything is now working fine in Mandriva
2006.0 apart from the graphics in the mrtg module, I'll get around to
looking at that later.

>From a sysadmin view, this proves a point: Leave a user with a problem
long enough and they'll fix it themselves :)

[qmailtoaster] Several Problems with Toaster on Mandriva 2006.0

2005-11-10 Thread Nigel Reed
Greets all,

First posting here and I'd like to report a few problems that I've had
installing and running various Toaster programs on Mandriva 2006.0

First of all qmail-toaster will needs to be changed so that it Provides
sendmail-command

It seems they changed all the mail clients and friends to use
sendmail-command rather than either MTA or smtpdaemon

They also changed how apache is configured. control-panel-toaster will
not longer build since apache2-common is no longer provided. httpd.conf
is now provided by apache-conf

Also, http2.conf and commonhttpd.conf are now merged into one httpd.conf
file.

The toaster.conf file should probably go into the webapps.d directory
for sake of standardization.

qmailmrtg does not show images. When I view the page, I get the
following link for the image...

http://www.nelgin.nu/stats-toaster/bytes-day.png

Now, stats-toaster is redirected to /usr/share/toaster/htdocs/mrtg/
via the alias. however all the images are in /usr/share/toaster/mrtg.
That said, I don't think the problem lies there. If I run index.php
through the cli I get an error

PHP Notice: Undefined variable: html in /usr/share/toaster/htdocs/mrtg/index.
php on line 27

FWIW: Mandriva 2006.0 uses php 5 (5.0.4 is the current version)

Line 27: $html = sprintf("%s\n%s", $html, $buffer );

Finally, I cannot get either imap4 or pop3-ssl to authenticate using
either the password file or via a vpopmail domain. To verify vpopmail
works properly I installed qmailadmin and was able to login as the
postmaster, so I know that vpopmail is fine. There is nothing in the
/var/log/qmail/imap4/current log to indicate any sort of problem with
the modules

@40004373619030086cc4 LOGIN: DEBUG: ip=[127.0.0.1], command=LOGIN
@4000437361903008881c LOGIN: DEBUG: ip=[127.0.0.1],
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
@400043736190300893d4 LOGIN: DEBUG: ip=[127.0.0.1],
password=testpw
@400043736195301322f4 ERR: LOGIN FAILED, ip=[127.0.0.1]

While I'm at it, Mandrake/Mandriva usually installs any web based files
in /var/www/html which I would rather see than using /usr/share/toaster.
That way all my website docs are in one place rather than being spread
around. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I know I can change them at a
later date, but it's a pain since the paths are hard coded into the
files.

That's all for now. Other than that, what a great project.

Nigel
