[qmailtoaster] problem with qtp-menu up2date and newmodel script

2007-03-06 Thread Ron Jones
I'm running CentOS 4.4 on an AMD 64 X2 chip with upgraded versions of PHP
(5.1.6-1.2.1.centos) and MySQL (5.0.22-1.centos.1)

DISTRO=CentOS
OSVER=4.4
ARCH-x86_64
BUILD_DIST=cnt4064
BUILD_DIR=/usr/src/redhat

Recently, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade my qmail toaster to the
"plus" version.
My current package set is:
qmail-toaster-1.03-1.3.5
isoqlog-toaster-2.1-1.3.1
spamassassin-toaster-3.1.4-1.3.2
control-panel-toaster-0.5-1.3.1
qmailadmin-toaster-1.2.9-1.3.1
simscan-toaster-1.2-1.3.1
daemontools-toaster-0.76-1.3.1
courier-imap-toaster-4.1.1-1.3.2
clamav-toaster-0.88.4-1.3.3
maildrop-toaster-devel-2.0.2-1.3.1
ripmime-toaster-1.4.0.6-1.3.1
vqadmin-toaster-2.3.4-1.3.2
ezmlm-toaster-0.53.324-1.3.1
courier-authlib-toaster-0.58-1.3.1
autorespond-toaster-2.0.4-1.3.1
libdomainkeys-toaster-0.68-1.3.1
qmail-pop3d-toaster-1.03-1.3.5
squirrelmail-toaster-1.4.8-1.3.3
vpopmail-toaster-5.4.13-1.3.2
maildrop-toaster-2.0.2-1.3.1
qmailmrtg-toaster-4.2-1.3.1
qmailtoaster-plus-0.2.7-1.3.9
ucspi-tcp-toaster-0.88-1.3.1
ezmlm-cgi-toaster-0.53.324-1.3.1
send-emails-toaster-0.5-1.3.1

Downloaded and installed qmailtoaster-plus-0.2.7-1.3.9 per the instructions
and without incident, then went to qtp-menu to do the install:

When I run up2date from within the qtp menu I get the following output:

--
Issuing command: qtp-ami-up2date
/usr/sbin/qtp-ami-up2date: line 94: 1.2
zlib-1.2.3-1: syntax error in expression (error token is ".2
zlib-1.2.3-1")

--- Hit ENTER to return to menu ---

No love there, So... I tried to run the newmodel script and got the
following output:

This machine's OS is supported, but this version/arch has not been
tested...Do you want to proceed at your own risk? Y

Do you want to include development packages? N

qmail Toaster is an integrated distribution...
...Now that you've been warned, we will proceed with package selection ...

/us/sbin/qtp-newmodel: line 357: 1.2
zlib-1.2.3-1: syntax error in expression (error token is ".2
zlib-1.2.3-1")

---Hit ENTER to return to menu ---

Anyone else encounter this? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ron

Hey Ron,

> What do you mean by "pre-configured?"

Your instructions were for a fresh install of QmailToaster that handles no
domains. Kyle already has a few domains hosted on his QmailToaster. I was
just re-assuring him that this doesn't require a fresh install. :)

> Also, what is the reason for adding the :25 to the end of #2 below?

According to /var/qmail/doc/README.remote-auth, the format is as follows:

domain:relay:port user pass

I tend to be overly explicit myself, so maybe the :25 isn't needed.
However there was one user who reported that it didn't work, I asked him to
try adding :25 and then it worked. I've not conducted my own testing to
confirm one way or the other, just prefer to be explicit with these kinds of
things.

Thanks,
Erik

Erik,

What do you mean by "pre-configured?" Also, what is the reason for adding
the :25 to the end of #2 below?

RE: [qmailtoaster] Exchange

2006-11-28 Thread Ron Jones
All you've got to do is install the Qmailtoaster server. Don't configure any
domains.

First, add the domain that Exchange is handling mail for to the
/var/qmail/control/rcpthosts file
Then, add the domain:ip address of the exchange server to
/var/qmail/control/smtproutes - it will look something like this ->
mydomain.com:192.168.0.1

If you've got an ISP that won't let traffic through on port 25, just add an
extra line to /var/qmail/control/smtproutes that looks like the following ->
:smtp.myispmailserver.com

These simple entries should take care of handling the mail correctly, now
all you've got to do is set up the spam filter to be as
permissive/restrictive as your situation requires.

Quick question that will probably be an easy answer. I have a client that
wants to have my qmail server scan their incoming mail and then have it
forwarded onto their exchange 2003 server. How would this be setup?

RE: [qmailtoaster] Spanish Influx...

2006-10-20 Thread Ron Jones

I can
relate to the conundrum faced by a Spanish-speaking user. Several I've done
searches in the past for the solution to a Mambo question, and found that the
post (on the forum) that best answered my question was written in German.
Doh!

Go where
the best chance of finding answers will be. I agree with the previously
expressed opinion about the "official QMail mailing list." But, I've found
the Qmailtoaster list to be full of friendly, helpful
people.

Though I
can passably make my way through the bar district, and (lest we forget
;) the red light district in most Spanish speaking countries; I can't speak
the language well enough to ask for directions. However, If I know something,
I'd be more than happy to answer a question that I
understand.

The
mechanical translation tool, while imperfect, seems like the best idea so far.
If someone is willing to go to the trouble to put their question through the
translator and convert it to mechanized English, surely it wouldn't be too
difficult to reverse the process when offering an
answer?

Don't know about you guys, but I've googled problems with
QMail before, and gotten results back from Spanish, Chinese, Portugese, etc.
mailing lists. When I first started with QMail, pretty much the only places I
could find that had any support was the official QMail mailing list (which is
nothing but a "RTFM" and flame list, which is just as bad as not understanding)
and a (I think) Brazilian mailing list.Anyway, I'm going to bow out of these
conversations. Hopefully soon there will be some type of
resolution.

well, the top of the file shows the usuall #!/bin/sh

Nope, /var/qmail/queue/mess/0-22 are completely empty.

What's more, I sent the test message about 2 hours ago, and have not yet
received the delay message in exchange.

H... My 2 little grey cells are in pain lol.

No, I mean /var/qmail/queue/mess. That's where messages go after they're
received, and before qmail-send routes them either to the local or remote
queue.

Re: [qmailtoaster] QmailToaster firewall behind NAT router

2006-09-13 Thread Ron Jones
George,
I'm speaking from the perspective of a networking guy, NOT an email
administrator. But, the answer (to borrow from the Simpsons) is "yes with
an if, and no with a but."

Most hardware firewalls operate using what is known as "stateful packet
inspection." The short description is: traffic is not allowed in from
outside, unless first requested from inside.

This is usually sufficient to keep out the worst of the baddies. HOWEVER,
remember that email is something you invite into your network. And like
any vampire, once you give the invitation...

Qmail is (as I understand it) about the most secure mail server currently
in production. When combined with spamassassin and clamav, it gives great
security benefits. But if you receive an HTML email with a picture
embedded in it, when you open up your outlook, that code is going to
"phone home" to the server that hosts the image. It is entirely possible
for that seemingly innocent little bit of code to bring something
malicious into your machine.

Now, by the time it gets to your desktop mail client, you've probably
downloaded it from the server. So, strictly speaking, in that case, your
desktop is most at risk.

The point is, that it is a mistake to assume that the bad guys are stupid.
So, to get back to your original question, my answer would be, it's a
question of how much risk are you willing to assume in return for a
reduced amount of administration (setting up and maintaining iptables)?

Good luck,
Ron

Would you believe it... I ran another test, and sent an email from

And it doesn't even show ip in /var/qmail/queue/local or remote

does that ring a bell?

2006-09-13 Thread Ron Jones
I've been poking around at this for two days now.
In my /var/qmail/control/locals is

Make sure that neither domain is in /var/qmail/control/locals I have on the
first line - localhost and on the second line - server.domainname.local

Sunday, I sent several test messages from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and finally got the "undeliverable" message back
yesterday.

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: RE: [Fwd: Test mail] - test received
Sent: 9/11/2006 3:40 AM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] on 9/13/2006 3:49 AM
Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified. Please retry or
contact your administrator.

Notice that the error message is now coded #4.4.7

Could it be a dns issue? Perhaps I should remove any reference to
company2.com from Bind and simply enter the exchange server name & ip in
/etc/hosts?

Thanks,
Ron

[qmailtoaster] telnet error - 511 sorry, you must specify a domain <#5.1.1 - chkuser>

2006-09-11 Thread Ron Jones

I'm having trouble
chasing down the source of an error message that I'm getting. There are two
domains behind a single firewall.

Company1.com - hosted on
the qmail toaster.
and
Company2.com - hosted on
an exchange 2003 server. But whose mail gets passed through the qmail toaster
with a simple entry in /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts and
/var/qmail/control/smtproutes.

company1.com can receive
mail from any domain EXCEPT company2.com. BUT company1.com can send to
company2.com

When I attempt to send an
email from [EMAIL PROTECTED] (via
outlook/exchange) to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I
receive periodic error messages advising me that sending is delayed.

After about a day, I get
an undeliverable message that says:
"There was a SMTP
communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your
system administrator.  <company1.com #5.5.0 smtp;550-"The
recipient cannot be verified. Please check all recipients of
this>"

There isn't anything in
/var/log/qmail/smtp/current So, I tried to telnet to the company1.com mail server hoping to see
some other sort of output.

When I telnet to
mail.company1.com 25 (from anywhere) I get:
EHLO
mydomain.com
250-Greetings from the
company1.com mail server. Now Go Away! (my own smtpgreeting)
250-STARTTLS
250-PIPELINING
250-8BITMIME
250-SIZE
419430400
250 AUTH LOGIN PLAIN
CRAM-MD5
MAIL FROM [EMAIL PROTECTED]
250
ok
RCPT TO [EMAIL PROTECTED]
511 sorry, you must
specify a domain <#5.1.1 - chkuser>

I'm completely stumped,
though it's got to be something simple (user error being most
common).

[qmailtoaster] #5.5.0 smtp;550 error when sending from specific domains to my QMT box

2006-09-08 Thread Ron Jones

So I've got this
Qmailtoaster install nearly completed when I find out that users in remote
domains who send emails to any user in my domain are getting
bounce-backs.

Here's the
setup:

On the network
192.168.12.0/32 I have 5-users on a SBS 2003 domain called
company1.com.

On that same network
192.168.12.0/32 I have one (1) Qmail Toaster which hosts mail for
company2.com AND it filters spam and virii for company1.com before handing
the mail over to the exchange server on the SBS 2003 box.  (a simple entry in /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts and
/var/qmail/control/smtproutes enables this).

The users in company2.com
are all located off-site, and get their mail through an IMAP connection with the
Qmail Toaster.

 Well, I can send
mail from company2.com to company1.com with no trouble. However, mail sent from
company1.com TO company2.com gets the following error
message.

  postmaster@company2.com on 9/8/2006 2:40 PM
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please
contact your system administrator.

Any
thoughts?

Ron

I agree. However, what I'd like to do is set up some sort of web interface
that will let me add blacklists, whitelists, rbl's, rules and other neat
little gimmicky things to show the client.

>If you could write a page in the wiki about your spamming configuration,

I'll be glad to... Is there a wiki feature that will let me upload a visio

[qmailtoaster] Spam filtering

2006-08-22 Thread Ron Jones

I have my Qmailtoaster
serving as a mail server for one domain AND a spam filter for a second domain
(it just hands it off to the exchange server) and it works like a doggone
charm!  Over the next week or so, I'll put my experiences down in hopes
that it may help someone else in a similar situation.

That being said, moving
forward, I can see the value for some clients in a pure spam
box.

Does anyone know of a
project out there somewhere that may help me to build a box consisting
of spamassassin (with bells & whistles), clamav (or some other
av), and a web interface for setting it up and looking pretty?  The
objective would be to receive all mail for a domain, scan it, filter it,
wash it and hand it off to the exchange server, scalix server, or ipswitch
"communications suite" server.

Thanks,
Ron

Ok Ron. A 64-bit compatible (I hope) script is available now. Please
download it and give it a try. It shouldn't hurt anything if it doesn't work

(but you do have a backup, right?).

You'll need to recreate the sandbox when you run it. You should see the
/usr/lib64 and /lib64 directories created after all the others.

Note, as you seem to be the 64-bit guinea pig, you should probably browse
through the log after the packages are built (before updating) to verify
that there weren't any problems, even though the script should terminate if
there are errors.

Cross your fingers. ;)

Lucky for me it's not a production box ;)

But seriously, I'll take a whack at it and see what happens.

Eric,

This will fail because your sandbox doesn't copy (link?) the /lib64 and
/usr/lib64 directories which contain the 64 bit libs. Your script is not
64-bit safe yet and will need some work and testing.

Thanks,

I used two 'test' scripts when I was testing this problem:

# cat caller
echo "about to call"
p1=parm1
p2=parm2
p3=parm3
chroot /opt/qmt-sandbox \
   /usr/src/qmt/called \
 $p1 \
 $p2 \
 $p3
echo "returned from called"

# cat called
echo "0=$0 1=$1 2=$2 3=$3"
exit

Try creating caller, called in /opt/qmt-sandbox/usr/src/qmt/, then run
caller. What do you get?

I created /opt/qmt-sandbox/usr/src/qmt/caller
Chmod +x caller
And pasted in the script

When I ran it, I got the following output:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] qmt]# ./caller
About to call
Chroot: cannot run command '/usr/src/qmt/called': No such file or directory
returned from called
0=./caller 1= 2= 3=

I tried running it in /usr/src/qmt as well and got the same output

RE: [qmailtoaster] upgrade script errors - Still no love

2006-08-20 Thread Ron Jones
I just found an easier way to check this out. You should be able to just #
cd /opt/qmt-sandbox # ldd bin/bash
libtermcap.so.2 => /lib/libtermcap.so.2 (0x002bf000)
libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x00294000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x00168000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x0014f000)

What do you get?

When I cd to /opt/qmt-sandbox and run the command, here is what I get:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] qmt-sandbox]# ldd bin/bash
libtermcap.so.2 => /lib64/libtermcap.so.2 (0x003aaf70)
libdl.so.2 => /lib64/libdl.so.2 (0x003c9cc0)
libc.so.6 => /lib64/tls/libc.so.6 (0x003c9c90)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x003c9c70)

When I cd'd to /usr/src/qmt as root:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] qmt]# chroot

I get "chroot: too few arguments
Try 'chroot --help' for more information"

So then I:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] qmt]#chroot --help
Usage: chroot NEWROOT [COMMAND...]

Run COMMAND with root directory set to NEWROOT.

--help display this help and exit
--version output version information and exit

If no command is given, run ''${SHELL} -I" (default: /bin/sh).

So... Just for kicks, I ran:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] qmt]#chroot '${SHELL} -i'
And got:

"chroot: cannot change root directory to /bin/bash: Not a directory"

Care to IRC? I just logged in to the #QmailToaster chat room if you'd like.
Might be easier that way.

what's the address?

Well, here is what I did,

-> deleted the scripts, also deleted /opt/qmt-sandbox/*
-> rebooted server
-> su - 'd to root
-> cd to /usr/src/qmt/
-> ran wget http://qmt.shubes.net/qmt-newmodel.sh (in /usr/src/qmt)
-> then ran sh qmt-newmodel.sh; this script will also download
qmt-build-rpms and chmod it to 755
-> qmt-newmodel created the sandbox and copied over both scripts to
/opt/qmt-sandbox/usr/src/qmt/

Unfortunately, I got the same error message upon completion of
qmt-newmodel.sh:

"chroot: cannot run command '/usr/src/qmt/qmt-build-rpms.sh' : No such file

RE: [qmailtoaster] upgrade script errors

2006-08-19 Thread Ron Jones
That still doesn't explain how /usr/src got wiped out though. You didn't run
it with SANDROOT=/usr/src did you?

Well... I don't believe so.

Also:

During the last 40 minutes, I've been running a fresh instance of the
upgrade script, it failed again.

Just to make sure everything worked as it should, I downloaded (via wget)
completely new copies of qmt-newmodel.sh & qmt-build-rpms.sh directly to
/usr/src/qmt/

Left the variables as shown below:
UPGRADE_DIR=/usr/src/qmt
SANDROOT=/opt/qmt-sandbox

Then I chmodded them to 755

Then I ran ./qmt-newmodel.sh, chose "new sandbox," it deleted the old and
created the new in /opt/qmt-sandbox/

Here is the output (after Creating /opt/qmt-sandbox/var ...:

Sandbox has been build successfully!

Starting to build the binary rpms ...(pizza anyone?)

If you want to view compile messages, you can open another terminal and:
#tail -f /opt/qmt-sandbox/usr/src/qmt/log/build-recent.log

Chroot: cannot run command '/usr/src/qmt/qmt-build-rpms.sh' : No such file
or directory
Build failed, Exiting

Am I missing something obvious?

This is disturbing to me. You didn't point the SANDROOT variable to
/usr/src, did you? That would be not a good thing. I should probably mention
in the wiki something about making it a *new* directory that doesn't already
exist.

I don't see how the script otherwise could wipe out the contents of
/usr/src/. Can you be a bit more specific about what you did initially to
create this symptom?

The only change I made was to point the SANDROOT at /

I just changed the permissions to 755 and it's running as we 'speak,' so
I'll keep you posted.

An interesting aside...
When it didn't work the first time, I thought "what the heck, I'll try it
using the "hard link" method. When I started the run, I got nothing but row
upon row of error messages. Obviously they were flashing by a bit quickly,
but I did see a lot of "already exists" messages.

When it finished, my /usr/src directory was completely empty. I just
installed the kernel source, and recreated the file structure, so it was no
big deal. But it did give me a start.

No, I started with: su -
Then did wget and sh all as root

# ls -l /opt/qmt-sandbox/usr/src/qmt/qmt-build-rpms.sh
to verify that it's not owned by root, then # chown root:root
/opt/qmt-sandbox/usr/src/qmt/qmt-build-rpms.sh to change its ownership. You
should probably change the ownership of the scripts too, in /usr/src/qmt/,
so you won't have this problem again if you were to need to rebuild the

Both files are already 'root root' with 644 permissions

[qmailtoaster] upgrade script errors

2006-08-19 Thread Ron Jones

I'm running CentOS 4.3,
and tried running the upgrade script on the wiki (not on a production box,
just my home email server) :

qmt-newmodel.sh and
qmt-build-rpms.sh

It seemed to go well
through the creation of the sandbox. I got the "Sandbox has been built
successfully!" message

Then... "Starting to
build the binary rpms ... (pizza anyone?)" message

followed
by:

"If you want to view the
compile messages, you can open another terminal and:
# tail -f
/opt/qmt-sandbox/usr/src/qmt/log/build-recent.log"

That's when I got the
error message:

"chroot: cannot run
command '/usr/src/qmt/qmt-build-rpms.sh': Permission denied
Build failed,
Exiting

I checked the above log
file, but it's empty as it didn't start compiling.

Any
suggestions?

RE: [qmailtoaster] Outlook vcalendar invites not coming through

2006-08-19 Thread Ron Jones
Here's the layout:

I installed the toaster at the company office; all the users are remote
workers who get their mail from the toaster using Outlook XP or 2003 using
an IMAP connection.

One of them told me that she is not receiving email invitations from remote
domains. So, I ran a test wherein I sent her a meeting invitation from my
desktop (completely separate domain). It did not even appear in her inbox,
and I didn't get a bounce message.

I ran a separate test wherein I sent myself a meeting invitation from my
home email address using outlook over IMAP (I have an earlier version of
Qmailtoaster on my mail server here at the house) to my work email address
(hosted by site5 and set up with an outlook client over an IMAP connection),
and it worked just fine.

I can only assume that there was a small change in the most recent upgrade
that causes this. But I have not yet been able to find the answer.

Thanks,

Ron Jones

Not me, but I wouldn't as none of my clients use meeting invitations. I'm a
little familiar with Outlook, not familiar at all with meeting invites.

Are they bouncing, or vanishing?

Any other changes made around this time?

Can you find one that went through previously, then look at the source to
see if there's something that might cause the problem?

My brother and nephew use Outlook with my toaster. I'll see if they might be
able to test this.

Please be sure to post back with your solution.

2006-08-17 Thread Ron Jones
If you are running your Qmailtoaster behind a Cisco PIX and want your remote
users to send and receive mail via IMAP

Log in to the pix and enter the command:
No fixup protocol smtp 25

That fixed me right up! (it was in the archives, but it took some digging)

I'll try to outline my experiences over the last several days for others.

I don't entirely grasp everything you said, but I appreciate you explaining

If you could summarize this configuration into a mini-howto, it'd be a nice

RE: [qmailtoaster] Can't receive mail - One more problem.

2006-08-17 Thread Ron Jones
Every day I get a problem that makes me do the "deer in the headlights"
thing.

There is only one little glitch... Everyone is receiving emails now, and
sending too, but only from the web interface.

I just set up a remote user on her laptop & blackberry (using IMAP), but
when sending from the laptop or the blackberry, they get the "not in my list
of rcpthosts" error message.

I have SEEN this somewhere... (is it smtpauth?) All the users will be
remote, how do I set them up so they can open outlook (configured with IMAP)
and send mail as easily from Borneo as from the internal network?

Thanks,

RE: [qmailtoaster] Can't receive mail - PROBLEM IS SOLVED (whew!)

2006-08-17 Thread Ron Jones
Well, the problem was in my control files. Or to be more truthful... It was
a layer 8 problem.

This server is named rci.company2.local, and it has a public A Record
pointed at mail.company2.com with a routable IP address (the CNAME is in the
caching DNS server located on the box).

It hosts mail for company2.com and filters mail for company1.com (meaning,
it hands the mail off to the Exchange box on the local domain)

I had removed the host name from the rcpthosts file (I don't recall the
logic behind it) and it had only the following entries:
Company2.com
Companh1.com

It would seem that the actual name of the box itself is necessary in a setup
like this.

But all is well (other than a few peckish users)

Hope that helps someone.

[qmailtoaster] Can't receive mail - Error "your envelope sender has been denied (#5.7.1)..."

2006-08-17 Thread Ron Jones

When testing my
qmailtoaster server, I cannot receive emails from a remote
domain:

I have set up a
qmailtoaster to handle mail for two domains.

all mail coming in for
company1.com is handed off to the exchange server that resides on the LAN (this
works fine)
all mail coming in for
company2.com is hosted on the qmailtoaster.

the qmailtoaster box is
named rci.company1.local, and is CNAME'd to answer for company1.com and
company2.com

I can log in via the web
interface from a remote location using mail.company2.com

I can send mail to anyone
from the web interface of mail.company2.com (as well as from a mail client that
is configured to mail.company2.com via IMAP).

HOWEVER...

I can't receive mail at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] a test from a remote
computer (using thunderbird on a qmail server) says "An error occurred while
sending mail. The mail server responded: sorry, your envelope sender has been
denied (#5.7.1). Please verify that your email address is correct in your Mail
preferences and try again."

my
/var/qmail/control/badmailfrom file has the following:
*\
@**%*[/!]

defaultdomain file
has : company2.com
rcpthosts file has:
company2.com and company1.com

locals file has:
company2.com
smtpgreeting file has:
rci.company2.local - Welcome to Qmail Toaster Ver 1.3 SMTP

It looks to me like users
should be receiving their mail but they are not.  Has anyone seen this
before? any suggestions?

RE: [qmailtoaster] spam filtering proxy, pass-through

2006-08-14 Thread Ron Jones
Finally,

I've got my qmailtoaster box set up as the mail server for company2.com I
can send and receive, all is well.

I've also got the same qmailtoaster box set up to take inbound mail that is
destined for company1.com and pass it along to the exchange server. It has
also been tested... Mail is sent from [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and things seem to work fine.

Now... What do I need to do to make sure that the qmailtoaster box takes the
incoming mail that is destined for company1.com and "washes" it free of spam
and viruses?

Once the configuration is completed... are there tests I can run to verify
that it is happening?

Yes!

Step 1, add an smtproute domain.com:exchange.domain.com, add domain to
rcpthosts Step 2, point dns to qmailtoaster Step 3, create
/var/qmail/control/doublebouncehost and doublebounceto and fill this out

Done

RE: [qmailtoaster] spam filtering proxy

2006-08-11 Thread Ron Jones
Cool, I'm working on it right now.
Except...

I had a hard time understanding -> "Step 3, create
/var/qmail/control/doublebouncehost and doublebounceto and fill this out"

I create the following files:
/var/qmail/control/doublebouncehost
/var/qmail/control/doublebounceto

Then 'fill this out' ...? How and with what?

Thanks,

Erik is on the money with this one. smtproutes is the way to go. I have
several domains who list us as their mx... we just pass the mail to their
internal server after scanning.

As long as I can continue to host company2 on the qmailtoaster box as I have

What I've done before was qmail relay box where any emails coming from
Internet will go into Qmail for scanning 1st, once it's clean, it will be
send automatically to the Exchange Box.

Internet <> qmailtoaster <> Exchange Server

Inbound & Outbound will be going thru qmailtoaster for scanning purposes..
another meaning, qmailtoaster is at frontend, exchange is hidden at backend.

Hope this helps.

RE: [qmailtoaster] spam filtering proxy

2006-08-11 Thread Ron Jones
Sorry, what I should have said (more clearly) was

The exchange box is separate unto itself (SBS 2003), the qmailtoaster box,
though separate, is on the same LAN. Currently, I have mail.company1.com
hosted on the exchange box, and mail.company2.com hosted on the qmailtoaster
box.

What I'd like to do is use the qmailtoaster box as a spam-filtering, virus
killing proxy for company1, and continue to host the mail for company 2.

Is this possible?

RE: [qmailtoaster] Qmailtoaster on 64bit OS

2005-12-24 Thread Ron Jones

I would like to use the above
servers as mail servers but am not sure whether the present version of
Qmailtoaster supports the RHEL 64 bit OS.

Can anybody help me out on this
  please?

  Thanks,
  Supriyo

  Currently, I'm
running Qmailtoaster on CentOS 4 with a 64-bit AMD Dual-Core
and the 64-bit version of CentOS.

  As CentOS is
a "binary clone" of RHEL, I am confident that you will have no
  trouble.

  HOWEVER,

  The best part about
it is that the package is so well made that you can have a mail server up and
running in less than 2 hours.  So, if for some reason, you have a
config requirement that may possibly prevent the operation of Qmailtoaster...
It won't require a heavy investment in time and resources to find
  out.

I just had this problem a couple of days ago... here's the short answer:

do a spamassassin -D --lint to see if you've got a problem

if so, do a qmailctl stat to see if spamd is running

if not,

change /root/.spamassassin/bayes to a file (not a directory)

rpm -e spamassassin-toaster

then wget a new copy of spamassassin toaster and rebuild/reinstall

restart

That fixed it for me

Now why would that happen?

Also, I can run spamd as a daemon (spamd -d) and it shows up in ps -e.

I checked this, the /root dir is 777, as well as the .spamassassin dir
Within .spamassassin, bayes was a directory, so I made it a file and changed
the permission to 666 (along with bayes_* as well)

Now Spamassassin --lint gives me no errors.

However, qmailctl stat shows no spamd running, just the following:

[qmailtoaster] qmailctl stat reveals spamd not running | error found with spamassassin -D --lint

2005-11-09 Thread Ron Jones

I have my qmail
toaster setup so that I can dump spam into the spam folder where
/etc/cron.daily/learnspam does its thing so that spamassassin can
autolearn.

However, it has
dawned on me slowly over the last couple of weeks that I'm seeing the same spam
from the same senders.  Today, I was updating
my /var/qmail/control/badmailfrom file  and noticed when I ran
qmailctl stop/start/stat,  spamd is not listed

So, I did a
spamassassin -D --lint and read through the output

I
got:

[26050] warn:
lint: 1 issues detected, please rerun with debug enabled for more
information
Upon closer
examination, I found the following:

[26003] warn: config: SpamAssassin failed to
parse line, "/root/.spamassassin/bayes" is not valid for "bayes_path", skipping:
bayes_path /root/.spamassassin/bayes

So I did some
checking,

within the
/etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf file there is the following
entry

use_bayes
1bayes_file_mode 0700bayes_path
/root/.spamassassin/bayesbayes_auto_learn_threshold_spam
8.0

I checked
the /root/.spamassassin directory and... there IS a bayes directory
there.

also, the
.spamassassin directory (and all sub-items) is owned by  vpopmail:vchkpw

Has anyone
seen this before?  I'm stumped!

Any
suggestions?

Thanks very much,

I do have a virtual domain set up, and tried to use it to send mail to both
the other domain on the server, as well as a foreign domain (my work
address). However, I'm still getting the "ERROR: Server replied: " error.

On a more positive note, checked /var/log/qmail/smtp/current and found a
distinct pattern. I've reproduced an occurrence here:

/var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6:
failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory
@4000433a93732d5337d4 tcpserver: end 16905 status 32512

@4000433a93732e444aac tcpserver: pid 16906 from 205.210.42.52
@4000433a93732e44bbf4 tcpserver: ok 16906
server.rej.us:192.168.29.100:25 :205.210.42.52::46204

The above repeats itself with little variation from head to tail in the
/var/log/qmail/smtp/current file;
Incidentally, 205.210.42.52 resolves to smtp.easydns.com (my dns & backup
smtp provider).

Now... Libc.so.6 is a library located at /lib/libc.so.6 (it is actually just
a soft link to /lib/lib-2.3.4.so), however, as this is a x86_64 system, it
is also at /lib64/libc.so.6 (which is itself a soft link to
/lib64/lib-2.3.4.so)

I tried mv /lib/lib-2.3.4.so /lib/lib-2.3.4.so.ORIGINAL and then soft
linking /lib/lib-2.3.4.so -> /lib64/lib-2.3.4.so; however that didn't work.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ron Jones

Seems like you have firewall started on your server. Please disable the
firewall, meanwhile double check that SeLinux is disable as well.

service iptables stop
chkconfig iptables off

restart qmail with qmailctl stop then qmailctl start

then try send and receive again.

Gabriel,

I ran a chkconfig --list iptables and it is off on runlevels zero through
six. Also, I made sure to install the OS (CentOS 4.1) with selinux
disabled.

Do you know of any other error logs that I can comb through to see if I can
find a solution?

[qmailtoaster] sending & receiving errors - troubleshooting steps?

2005-09-27 Thread Ron Jones

I've just gotten
everything installed on the x86_64 system, and I can now log in to squirrel
mail, log in to vqadmin and admin-toaster.  However, I cannot send or
receive mail using Thunderbird, Outlook, or the Squirrel Mail web
client.

Below, is the list
of error messages from each of the mail server clients.

***
When sending with
Outlook, I get:
! Task
'mail.mydomain.us - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : "The connection to
the server was interrupted.  If this problem continues, contact your server
administrator or your Internet Service Provider (ISP).'

When sending with
the Squirrel Mail web client I get:
ERROR:

replied:

When sending with
Thunderbird, I get:
Sending of message
failed.
The message could
not be sent because connecting to SMTP server mail.mydomain.us failed.  The
server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections.  Please verify
that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your
network administrator.

Can anyone
recommend where I might start looking?  I've read through the
/var/log/qmail//current logs, as well as the settings
in /var/qmail/control but have not seen anything that jumps out at
me.

It looks like you may need to increase your softlimit in your run script.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# cat /var/qmail/supervise/imap4/run #!/bin/sh

PASSPROG="/usr/lib/courier/authlib/authvchkpw"
HOSTNAME=`hostname --fqdn`

/usr/bin/tcpserver -v -R -H -l $HOSTNAME 0 143 \ /usr/sbin/imaplogin \
$PASSPROG /usr/bin/imapd Maildir 2>&1

Nick,

Thanks so very much! It worked.

I changed the softlimit to 3600 (is that bits/bytes etc?)

What does the /usr/bin/softlimit -m # DO?

[qmailtoaster] libnsl.so.1: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory ???

2005-09-26 Thread Ron Jones

Anyone ever seen
that one?

I'm doing the
install on an amd x86_64 system.  Once the install was complete and the
users (all 2 of them) were added, I wanted to send a test mail.  So, I went
to squirrel mail and entered my login information.

However, I got the
error message below:
ERROR: connection

checking the
/var/log/qmail/imap4/current file shows the following error
message:

of note:  I
have added the following soft link:

 /usr/lib64/courier/authlib/authvchkpw
/usr/lib/courier/authlib/authvchkpw

RE: [qmailtoaster] any issues with running Qmail-Toaster on x86_64?

2005-09-26 Thread Ron Jones

>Linking the libraries seems to be the most common problem. A softlink
should resolve most problems.

You are right so far!

In addition to linking the mysql libraries in order to make vpopmail-toaster
compile & install (using ln -s /usr/lib64/mysql /usr/lib/mysql).

Once I finished, I could not log in to squirrelmail, or using Thunderbird.
When I checked the /var/log/qmail/imap4/current file, I found the following
error output:

/usr/lib/courier/authlib/authvchkpw: No such file or directory

A quick google investigation found an additional soft link necessary to fix
the "no such file or directory" problem with that library:

ln -s /usr/lib64/courier/authlib/authvchkpw
/usr/lib/courier/authlib/authvchkpw

I thought that would fix it... However, once that was done, the
/var/log/qmail/imap4/current file threw me another curve:

Now the error message reads:

/usr/lib/courier/authlib/authvchkpw: error while loading shared libraries:
libnsl.so.1: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate
memory

Has anyone seen this before? Any suggestions?

[qmailtoaster] any issues with running Qmail-Toaster on x86_64?

2005-09-24 Thread Ron Jones

Hi all,

Recently my SOHO
Qmail/file/print/web server died a horrible death and I found myself with an
excuse to build a nice new one with more 'up to date' hardware.  Since I
got a decent price on an Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor, I've been
hankering to try installing the x86_64 version of CentOS 4.

I've never had any
experience with a 64-bit OS, and I wondered if anyone has an opinion pro/con on
the subject?  First and foremost, will Qmail-Toaster run on a 64-bit
system?  Are there a different set of RPMs? (I've heard that applications
need to be 64-bit compliant if they are to run)

If if will work,
what caveats will I need to be aware of?  (I do remember one post
on the mailing list that explained  a soft link for one of the
libraries)

Thanks for your
input!

RE: [qmailtoaster] How to set up SPF on my Qmailtoaster?: after-action report

2005-09-11 Thread Ron Jones
You know, you're right, I logged in to my easydns account and as near as I
can figure, I forgot to add the trailing " mark after ~all. And... Since
one mistake usually begets another, I probably typed in the domain on the
second line as well. (before the "v=spf1...)

So the line with the string read rej.us "v=spf1 a ptr mx:mail.rej.us ~all

Thanks again, I probably would never have caught that.

You pasted too much:

$ host -t txt rej.us
rej.us text "rej.us. IN TXT \"v=spf1 a ptr mx:mail.rej.us ~all"

Should read like this:
$ host -t txt rej.us
rej.us text "v=spf1 a ptr mx:mail.rej.us ~all"

Looks like too much is in the record, the "rej.us IN TXT" is not supposed to
be part of the txt record itself. In BIND it would define that the "v=spf1 a
ptr mx:mail.rej.us ~all" is the text record.

Thanks,
Erik

RE: [qmailtoaster] How to set up SPF on my Qmailtoaster?: after-action report

2005-09-11 Thread Ron Jones
I thought it was working as designed?

I use easydns.com as my dns provider, and pasted the txt records in their
txt field. The SOA serial number auto-increments when changes are made, but
the user doesn't have access to what they are (unless you go through some
hoops at dnsstuff.com).

The addition I added to /var/qmail/control/spfrules was just
includes:easydns.com

After all was completed I issued service qmail restart. I believe it IS
working correctly. Unless you see a problem that I don't even know is a
problem.

Thanks,

Ron Jones

Perhaps you didn't change the SOA's serial # and/or reload. Could you paste
the txt records and the mx records?

Thanks,

RE: [qmailtoaster] How to set up SPF on my Qmailtoaster?: after-action report

2005-09-11 Thread Ron Jones
It works!

Okay, so it's no big deal, but it excited me (doesn't say much for my social
life, I know). I went to /var/qmail/control/spfbehavior as you recommended,
the default value was 3, so I left it there.

Then I went to the website (below) that you gave me the link to, where I
followed instructions for adding another file called spfrules, which is an
includes: file.

I also used the spf setup wizard at http://spf.pobox.com/index.html to come
up with a string to put in my dns provider's zone file.

Upon testing, found that when sending from a domain that hasn't implemented
spf, I'm getting the right softfail notification in the headers.

Thanks much

Ron Jones

Subject: Re: [qmailtoaster] How to set up SPF on my Qmailtoaster?

Most of the configuration for spf is done in DNS, not qmail. Go to
http://spf.pobox.com/ and use their wizard to generate rules.

The Qmail configuration is basically one file:
/var/qmail/control/spfbehavior

More info available here: http://www.saout.de/misc/spf/ spfbehavior
Use this to turn on SPF checking. The default value is 0 (off).
You can specify a value between 0 and 6:

* 0: Never do SPF lookups, don't create Received-SPF headers
* 1: Only create Received-SPF headers, never block
* 2: Use temporary errors when you have DNS lookup problems
* 3: Reject mails when SPF resolves to fail (deny)
* 4: Reject mails when SPF resolves to softfail
* 5: Reject mails when SPF resolves to neutral
* 6: Reject mails when SPF does not resolve to pass

Values bigger than 3 are strongly discouraged, you probably want to go
with 2 or 3.
Important: This setting can be overridden using the environment variable
SPFBEHAVIOR, e.g. from tcpserver rules.
Note: If RELAYCLIENT is set, SPF checks won't run at all.
(This also includes SMTP-AUTH and similar patches)

[qmailtoaster] How to set up SPF on my Qmailtoaster?

2005-09-11 Thread Ron Jones

I read somewhere
on the Qmailtoaster.com website that the toaster has built-in support for the
SPF setup.  Has anyone configured it?  How is it
done?

Thanks,

[qmailtoaster] Qmail Toaster SA-Learn, SpamAssassin - .Spam box permissions

2005-09-07 Thread Ron Jones

Hi,

I upgraded to the
recently published maildrop-toaster and qmailadmin-toaster files.  Then, I
implemented the SA-Learn instructions given here http://www.mail-archive.com/qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com/msg00157.html

I created the
.Spam mailbox, copied the script that cleans out .Spam, saved it as 'learnspam'
as an executable in /usr/local/bin, with a soft link to
/etc/cron.daily

Now, when I open
up Thunderbird and subscribe to the new .Spam folder, I can then drag spam over
to the .Spam box so that SpamAssassin can do its thing.

My problem is that
whenever I do this I get the following two error messages:
1. COPY failed -
no write permission or out of disk space

I click OK and then get

2. The current
command did not succeed, the mail server responded: [ALERT] COPY failed - no
write position or out of disk space

I click OK and then am left sitting there as if nothing
happened.

The
.Spam directory is chmod 700, user=vpopmail grp=vchkpw

When I try to use
the squirrelmail interface to do the same thing, I check a message and
then choose "move to Spam."  I get the following error
message:

ERROR: Could not complete request.Query: COPY
957 "INBOX.Spam"Reason Given: [ALERT] COPY failed - no write permission or
out of disk space.

Any
ideas?

Thanks,

Ron

It's trying to send messages to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]', which probably
isn't a valid user. Create a file (if it's not there already) called
/var/qmail/alias/.qmail-root and have the following in it:
&[EMAIL PROTECTED]
that way any emails sent to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' will get forwarded to
your postmaster account.

---
The way I ended up fixing it was to change the 'admin user' in the script to
my [EMAIL PROTECTED] account.

Earlier, when it wouldn't deliver, I had the admin user set to my
[EMAIL PROTECTED] e-mail account (my work e-mail). This is because I'm in
this account much more often.

In the end, I decided to suck it up and check the postmaster account more
often than once per week.

Thanks for your help.

[qmailtoaster] server-send error message

2005-09-05 Thread Ron Jones

Hi
all,

My Qmail Toaster
install has been purring along quite nicely for a month and a half now.  I
love it.

I installed the
qtupgrade.cron file that Erik Espinoza wrote (thanks Erik!) and it just sent me
a notification that there are some upgrades.  However, the notification
didn't get through.  I received it as a failure notice in my [EMAIL PROTECTED]
account.

I think what threw
a wrench into it was that mail.mydomain.us is a cname.  The actual server
name is server.mydomain.us (creative, I know, but it's also my
cachingDNS/dhcp/smb/multisite webserver at home).

So, ultimately,
the failure message said:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at
server.mydomain.us.I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the
following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it
didn't work out.<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:<remote
mailserver ip address> does not like recipient.Remote host
said: 550-Verification failed for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>550-unrouteable
mail domain "server.mydomain.us"550 Sender verify failedGiving up on
.--- Below this line is a
copy of the message.

So what
changes should I make to insure that when the qmail server sends me a message,
it is sent via a recognizable e-mail account on the domain?

Thanks,

Ron
Jones

Hmm. It didn't get installed into the supervise package for some reason, and
is not running on your system.
Maybe try removing the installed RPM, and reinstalling it?

Completely remove and reinstall... Or just rpm -Uvh pkg --force ?

You'll probably need to run ps-ax as root to see all the processes - don't
hold me to that.
Do you have a dir called /var/qmail/supervise/spamd?

No, in /var/qmail/supervise, I've only got:

clamd imap4 imap4-ssl pop3 pop3-ssl send smtp

And no joy on spamd when issuing ps -ax | grep spamd as root either

Hmm. the ps -ax should have worked - I'm running Cent4 myself
Anyway, it looks like you're not running spam checking. Do a 'rpm -qa |
grep toaster' to see what packages are installed - I believe you need
simscan-toaster installed for spam check also. Might just be missing a
package.

much. Go in and delete /etc/mail/spamassassin/.spamassassin/auto-whitelist
and then touch /etc/mail/spamassassin/.spamassassin/auto-whitelist . Then
chown vpopmail:vchkpw /etc/mail/spamassassin/.spamassassin/auto-whitelist
and lastly chmod the file 700 also. That will fix that issue.

Before I do this... Does it matter that
/etc/mail/spamassassin/.spamassassin/auto-whitelist is a directory?

When I go into /etc/mail/spamassassin/.spamassassin/ and issue ls -lta I get
the following output:

.spamassassin]# ls -lta

drwx-- 4 vpopmail vchkpw 4096 Aug 6 17:53 .

As far as ZLib do this:
rpmbuild --rebuild --with cnt40 zlib-1.2.3-1.0.2.src.rpm and see if it still
gives you an error.

I fixed this one. Apparently, when I did the wget from the qmailtoaster
site, it didn't download correctly (although I didn't know this). I tried
downloading it to my local computer and then moving the file to the server
(this is also my samba file server). Whereupon it compiled and installed
correctly.

I don't know what problem I was having, because about 5 hours later, I lost
mail, dns, file serving and printing (hey, it's my home all-in-one box).
Upon investigation I discovered that she had a kernel panic. Rebooted and
all is well so far (18 hours so far).

I would like to be able to discover the root cause, hopefully it isn't my
aacraid driver as I have read that there may be issues with it (I use an
adaptec 2410SA SATA raid controller with a RAID 1 setup)

Thanks,

Ron

[qmailtoaster] error messages with package upgrade (zlib and spamassassin)

2005-08-06 Thread Ron Jones

I downloaded the most
recent version of zlib and spamassassin from the qmailtoaster
website.

First error -

spamassassin built just
fine with the --with cnt40 configured.  However, it would not install, the
error message is as follows:

rpm -Uvh
spamassassin-toaster-3.0.4-1.2.5.i386.rpmPreparing...
### [100%]
1:spamassassin-toaster   ###
[100%]error: unpacking of archive failed on file
/etc/mail/spamassassin/.spamassassin/auto-whitelist: cpio: rename failed - Is a
directory
??? Did I forget
something?

Second error -

this was a quick
one:
 rpmbuild --rebuild
zlib-1.2.3-1.0.2.src.rpmInstalling zlib-1.2.3-1.0.2.src.rpmerror:
zlib-1.2.3-1.0.2.src.rpm cannot be installed
??? Ok, I know it's
late/early/whatever, but am I missing something here?

Thanks,

Ron
