Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: EZMLM list management issues

2022-03-03 Thread Chris
I think I found the problem. Maybe.

Last night I created a new list, and then I added and removed subscribers
via the web interface and the command line (fixing the directory/file
ownership after using the CLI as root) and I had no issues.

I suspect the issue is that all of the lists in question are old, and were
migrated via rsync from an older toaster. I suspect there is an
incompatibility between the way the subscribers were stored with an older
version of ezmlm vs the version I am running now. I plan to work with one
of my friends, who owns several of the broken lists in question, to delete
and re-create them. They'll lose any archived messages, but from my
testing it seems the user lists will become manageable again.

I don't know about ezmlm, but it appears that it uses the stock

My smtproutes file has my smarthost information in the form -
:example.com username password (of course with my correct domain and

a problem. I will try without the smarthost, and see if there's a

delivery mechanism. What's in your /var/qmail/control/smtproutes file?

My smtproutes file has my smarthost information in the form -
:example.com username password (of course with my correct domain and
user information). Like I said earlier, it's only ezmlm that's giving me
a problem. I will try without the smarthost, and see if there's a
difference.

After more careful examination, it appears that the smarthost you're
using doesn't like the sender address that ezmlm uses. mailformed
address is in the failure message. What exactly it doesn't like is hard
to say since you've obscured the message. I'm guessing that the
smarthost isn't able to handle ezmlm lists (or perhaps any email lists).
I would look to the smarthost for a solution. What software is the
smarthost running?

[qmailtoaster] Re: ezmlm-web

2010-03-15 Thread Eric Shubert
information on user authentication can be obtained from the Apache
documentation (http://www.apache.org) and ApacheWeek
(http://www.apacheweek.com/features/userauth).

5.1 Ensure that your Apache setup will allow .htaccess file to control
access in the directory that contains. This is controlled by the
AllowOverride tag in access.conf. (Also ensure you have the
necessary Apache modules installed)

5.2 Create a htpasswd file. This is done using the htpasswd command that
comes with Apache. Its command line syntax is;
htpasswd [-c] passwordfile username

You need to put the passwordfile somewhere that is not accessible by
people through the web, and create an entry for each user you want
to have access ... See the ApacheWeek article for more details.

5.3 Create a .htaccess file in the directory that contains index.cgi.
Note that using Apache's built in access control, you can only
control
access to directories, not individual files, hence the need for a
sub-directory in step 5.

The format of the .htaccess file should be along the lines of this;

AuthName EZ Mailing List Manager
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /path/to/passwordfile
require valid-user # or require user username

You may use examples/htaccess.dist as a template.

Again, see the ApacheWeek article for details.

6. You may skip this step if you manage only one directory containing
mailing
lists. For more than one domain or multiple user directories you
should
follow the instructions below. BEWARE: this is an advanced setting.

1) copy examples/multidomain.conf.dist to
/etc/ezmlm-web/multidomain.conf
2) add your mailing list parent directories to this file
3) uncomment the respective line in your ezmlmwebrc file

The web interface should now show a Change domain link in the
navigation
bar to the left.

Direct links to a specifc domain use the following format:
http://BASE_URL/ezmlm-web?domain=foo

Note that since version 3.3 webusers file has to explictly let users
create
and manage lists. If you are relying on the user beeing able to
create lists
if no webusers file exists, then you will have to explicitly create
one with
the appropiate permissions.

7. Copy the stylesheet files
(/usr/local/share/ezmlm-web/www-data/*.css)
to a location of your choice. It has to be accessible by an URL -
maybe
a place like /var/www/ezmlm-web/ could be appropriate.
Now you may have to adapt the HTML_CSS_COMMON and HTML_CSS_COLOR
settings in your ezmlmwebrc file.

Alternatively you can also use the mapping feature of your web
server.
Take a look at examples/apache.conf.dist for an example.

8. Test the installation with your favourite web browser. You should be
asked for a username and password (supplied in 6.2) and then be
presented
with a screen entitled ezmlm-web. You can then try to create and
edit
mailing lists ... Have Fun :)

If you see a slightly disordered screen, the you probably did not
set the
HTML_CSS_COMMON option correctly. Check it again.

If you do not see a colorful screen, then you probably did not set
the
HTML_CSS_COLOR option correctly. Check it again.

9. If anything failes - take a look at the web server's error log
(e.g. /var/log/apache/error.log).

Hey Todd.

While I'm not really familiar with PHPList, I believe that the mailing
transport software and configuration will be the limiting factor
regarding how fast you can get the emails delivered. I don't think the
list software you use will have any significant impact on efficiency.

The list software submits messages to the MTA (often internally to the
same host), which then queues them up for delivery, which is where your
bottleneck will occur. You'll probably want to adjust
/var/qmail/control/concurrencyremote upwards to be able to send out more
emails concurrently, until you hit a resource limit, such as cpu, memory
or bandwidth.

There are perhaps others on this list with experience sending out large
numbers of messages, and can give more specific recommendations.

There's not much that is not possible. It has a mass-add feature. You

I don't know what Jake's talking about regarding certain tabs in
mailman. Mailman has a pretty extensive security model. You can assign
list ownership to the user, and then they can control the list in
whatever way they like using the provided web interface. The biggest
drawback I know of with mailman is a moderate learning curve, as there
are a lot of options. As always though, you don't get something for
nothing.

You will need to give the user access to qmailadmin however, so they can

If you need to bulk import addresses, then I have a writeup on the wiki
on how to do that from the CLI. There are some other web based admin
utils for controlling ezmlm or giving admin access to lists to certain
users, but I have not investigated any of these solutions myself.

As Eric mentioned, mailman may also be a source. I find ezmlm easier to
setup and manage in general, but if you can convince your user to only
go into certain tabs in mailman then it may be a better choice for
non-technical users.

2007-02-27 Thread Steve Ingraham
Below is a message I have been receiving from the qmailtoaster-list-help
email for some time now. Can someone explain what exactly is going on
and what I can look at to see why messages would be bouncing when sent
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I am receiving emails from the qmailtoaster
list on a daily basis so I don't understand why I would be continually
receiving messages that tell me that messages are bouncing. Any help is
appreciated.

Steve

Hi! This is the ezmlm program. I'm managing the
 qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com mailing list.

I'm working for my owner, who can be reached
 at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Messages to you from the qmailtoaster-list mailing list seem
to have been bouncing. I've attached a copy of the first
 bounce message I received.

If this message bounces too, I will send you a probe. If the
probe bounces, I will remove your address from the
qmailtoaster-list mailing list, without further notice.

I've kept a list of which messages from the qmailtoaster-list
 mailing list have
 bounced from your address.

Copies of these messages may be in the archive.

To retrieve a set of messages 123-145 (a maximum of 100 per
request), send an empty message to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

To receive a subject and author list for the last 100 or so
messages, send an empty message to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

 Here are the message numbers:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at ns1.qmailtoaster.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the
following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given
up. Sorry it didn't work out.

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 TLS connect failed: error:1408F10B:SSL
 routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number; connected to
204.87.111.225. I'm not going to try again; this message has
been in the queue too long.

I get those messages from time to time (or used to). It's nothing to
worry about, unless you start to see dozens of emails being bounced.
You can follow the request directions in the email and request a copy of
the email in question, but I think you'll see it's a spam message spoof.
