Re: [QUAD-L] Roho

2014-04-22 Thread Don Price
I also used a Jay gel cushion my first 25 years before I got my first pressure
sore. I then switched to a Roho air cushion and haven't had any skin issues
since.

The Jay cushion is more stable but it amplifies any bumps, such as sidewalk
cracks, as you roll over them. The Roho is less stable for transfers but much
more forgiving and cushy over bumps. Another interesting thing about air
cushions is how they are affected by elevation; when I drive from Phoenix to
Flagstaff--an increase in elevation of about 6,000 ft--I have to let air out of
my cushion or it becomes too hard. There are pros and cons for each type of
cushion.

FYI, the Roho President monitors this list for any issues and feedback
regarding their products. I think that is really cool and very proactive on
Roho's part. We, the end users, really know how well the product works better
than anyone.

I've been using Roho custom cushions for years.  I have a custom Roho cushion
for my handcycle with 2" high
cells and dual chambers (a right and left airflow valve), I use the same custom
Roho cushion on my car seat.
For my chair I have a custom Roho Quadtro Select Hi Profile that is tapered
from rear-to-front of my
chair (my chair is 2" wider in the front than the back).

In my opinion, unless you know exactly what you want in the custom department,
it is important to get imput
from a seating clinic and/or seating specialist.  I have a pelvic obliquity (my
left ischium is 2" higher than
my right ishium so all the pressure is on my left ishium)--I was thinking about
getting a custom Quadtro with
3" cells on the left quadrant and 4" cells everywhere else.  After speaking
with an OT-Seating specialist I learned
that in my case it was better to go for 4" cells on the entire cushion and then
adjust the cushion using the red/green
Isoflo valves.

Is this different from the Roho Quadtro?
I think mine is a Quadtro, and it has 4 areas that after you sit in it you lock
the air in place.
It is supposed to help with stability.
But there is only 1 valve. You can't inflate each separately. You move the air
where you want it by sitting on it, then lock it.

2013-01-26 Thread Bob Vogel

Hi Bobbie, "KK" and all,

ROHO makes a wide variety of sandard and custom cushions. The one I use is the
ROHO High Profile Quadtro Select. As Bobbie explained, it consists of air
filled neoprene cells--the cells on the Quadtro Select are divided into four
chambers--two in the back (one that supports each ishium) and two in front. In
the front of the cushion is a red/green adjustment button--push the green
button and all of the cells of the entire cusion are connected--position
yourself they way you want to be supported, then push the red button and the
air in all four chambers stays in place for a custom fit. A fit that can be
changed throughout the day.

Disclaimer--I write a blog for ROHO. Last year I wrote a blog explaining how
often insurance will pay for a new cushion--every 3 years--and how to go about
getting properly fit for a cushion. Here is the link:
http://blog.therohogroup.com/index.php/2011/11/how-often-should-you-replace-your-cushion/

Bob Vogel

Bobbie,

I am on a Roho Contour Select. It is a cushion with air cells but the area of
the cushion where your Ishialls would be is cut out so your boney protuberances
are suspended in the cutout.
I purchased the cushion from Spinlife.com. They help with the paperwork for

RE: [QUAD-L] Roho

By stability we mean how well the cushion holds you in place. The
Roho is great because when you lean one way or the other the air in
the coushion moves in order to prevent more pressure on that area
that you are leading to. This works great in preventing pressure
sores but if you start to lean one way or the other you just keep
going. With a regular foam cushion this doesn't happen. You tend to
stay put -- better for stability but not so good in preventing
pressure sores. So, for us quads that have difficulty keeping our
sitting balance, we have to try to find a way in between firmness and softness.

Hello everybody,
I been using the Jay 2 cushion for quite a few years but I been think of
going to a ROHO cushion. I want a cushion that has better airflow on my
butt, it just seems like I get a heat rash and need to get some fresh air
and from what I read about the ROHO (Ventilated: Separate air cells allow
air circulation to reach the surface of the skin and provide cooling
environment.) and that sounds just like what I need. I am looking at the THE
ROHO(r) CONTOUR SELECT(r) CUSHION or ENHANCER(r) CUSHION, which one would
you guys suggest?

DME means durable medical equipment. Contact your closest independent

I usually get between 3 and 5 years from a roho. If you overfil one it will
die fast. You should sit down into the seat. You need to check with a PT and be
sure you are on it right. Any bicycle inner tube repair kit will work as a
repair kit. This can double the life of the roho. The most common problem I
have seen is people over inflatting the seat causing the insides to separate

I've called the factory a couple of times in the past. They are located
in Illinois. Customer service has always been nice and helpful. Especially
when it comes to the Roho name and warranty. Call their 800 and see for
yourself. Then let the rest of us know what happened.

I have had quadtro cushions for about 7 years. I have had a lot of problems
with the valve in front leaking , I haven't keep track of the number of times
they have been in for repair , but it seems like a lot. I'm lucky the VA gives
me a back up cushion. I just got an airpulse pk , so far I like it, except it
is firmer than the rohos even on it's lowest setting.

Hi everybody :-)

I have a serious roho cushion problem. Some of you might give me some suitable
and effective advice.

Its almost 3 and half years I bought one roho cushion quadtro pro high profile.
I was more then satisfied with it. Because after using it I did not have any
more pressure sore. Quite peaceful life.

Suddenly yesterday it was found that it was leaked under my right butt. My
attendants tried, but couldn't trace out the leak (there is leak for sure).

Now, for an immediate measure I started using it with placing front side at the
back. Those who used it must be knowing that, it works on a isoflo quadrennial
compartment memory system. So that even 1 compartment is leaked, rest 3
compartments are effective.

As my attendants couldn't trace out the leak, I am waiting for my brother to
come and trace the leak. He is staying in another city and he will come after
few weeks.

Now, my question is, can I use it this way for some time ? Will it damage the
system ? Or, what do you suggest ? Even buying a new one will take some time as
I am not residing in USA. Also, if I need to buy a new one, please suggest any
seller where I may get best price.

Thanks in advance for your valuable advice :-)

Please take care :-)

Yours,

I don't attach it at all. I make a case about twice as long as the cushion,
drop my 2 inch Roho in and fold over the extra. I just set this in my
chair and don't have much trouble with sliding or cushion movement. (The
case
fits pretty snugly around the cushion.) I can lift and readjust if needed but
once I'm in and have the cushion straight under me, I'm set for the day.

RE: [QUAD-L] ROHO Cushion

2007-04-26 Thread Greg
I have had great luck with Rohos, but just last week I started to get a bad
spot on my butt. It actually broke open a bit. My cushion did not have
enough air in it. I was so worried about the spot since I've done so well, I
called the PT I've seen a few times. I went in and she mapped my pressure on
the computer. It was pretty good. I had put too much air back in, but once
it was adjusted it showed no red or yellow pressure spots. The spot is
really looking good now at least. Those are such scary things. It can really
screw up your daily life.

I have been on the roho for about 31 years, I first had a gel cushion
although it was not Jay.  I did try to Jay cushion for a short time, but
did not feel as comfortable.  I go by Robo only I have had a number of
breakdowns because it went flat.  I didn't know it was flat, of
course.  It should have some system to let you know when it is losing the
air, since we cannot feel.

You just have to be careful and check.  I oftentimes look at my
full-length mirror to see if I am sitting straight and if the cushion looks
full What do the rest of you to do safe
check your Roho?

I have tried ROHO cushions several times over the last 26 years since my injury.  I really decided I needed a cushion on my Permobile a little over a year ago.

Once again I tried a ROHO cushion.  I know there are several different versions of them now but I have never been able to balance on them.  So when I was trying out cushions ... the vendor brought a few that he thought would work for me.  One was called a VARILITE and that is the one I chose.  It is a fantastic cushion!

LOL.  Easy to fix is a metaphor.  If you don't follow the recipe,
the repair won't last.
If you follow the instructions properly, you still have a 50-50

If you ask me roho cushions are a joke. You cant transfer off of them because you sink in like a waterbed. They also pop easily , and you get this all for 400.00, what a deal, lol. Ive used a J2 gel for 8 years and never had a sore problem. The cushion is great because is has a solid front to transfer off of, but gel in the back for your butt. Whoever designed that was thinking from a wheelchair users perspective.

I've had repairs made when it was just punctures on the round egg
parts, and they've held pretty good. I've never tried fixing it when
it was in the seam, but I would think it would work just as well.
Although I'm thinking that there might be a manufacturer's defect if
it coming apart in the seams.

With your cushion, did you get a patch kit? Years ago (I would guess
around 20 years) the cushions used to have a tube of "rubber glue" in
it. It was black in color (to go with the cushion), and that stuff
would work great. I wouldn't even have to put a patch on top of the
repair. But lately, the patch kits have gotten flimsier, and the glue
isn't as thick.

Good luck with your repair, and let us know if the gorilla glue works
out. I'll have to try that with my next repair if it does work

Has anyone had any luck repairing a roho cushion? I bought a new

the seam on the side of the cushion (where the top and bottom layers
come together). I filled the split with something called "gorilla
glue". It's drying right now. Don't know how trustworthy it's
going to be, would appreciate any advice if anybody has been able to
successfully repair a split like this.

Wow-- speaking of jobs going over seas , Watlow Electric here in Missouri is
sending 8-16 people from    my wife's  plant  to China
to train the Chinese to take over part of their jobs done here , thus eliminating
american workers here. What is to become of us all loosing our jobs and
insurance coverage in America., Will it never end ?

Hi Dave,

I remember when they moved out there.  What did they do with the property on I-17 between Bethany and Camelback Roads?  I used to eat at a nice steak-house just south of the old Honeywell place.  I almost miss Phoenix.  :)
