Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Internet

2020-12-26 Thread Paul Webster

Had you assigned a static IP address to the player ... which is no
longer valid because your new router is using a different IP address
range or has given that IP address to a different device (so you now
have a clash) ... or did you assign a gateway address to the player that
is no longer correct because the new router is at a different IP address
to the old one?

If that does not help then post the IP address information from the
player and your network/router.

Or do a Factory Reset: Hold power button down until Radio says
"Goodbye", then press and hold Power and (+) button simultaneously until
you get "Factory Settings Restored" message. Go through the initial
setup again.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Internet connection drop

2009-12-23 Thread tjk

Hi guys,
quite new to Squeezebox - great device

the issue is this: my internet connection is not very stable, means it
can go off once a week for an unknown period of time, so I run into a
problem. my alarm sound is set to play an internet radio steam and if
the internet drops i simply don't get any alarm sound and i can't even
access the alarms since Squeezebox can't connect to the mysqueezebox.com
server. Is there any backup sound to play when there is no connection?
or a way to store the alarms in the memory and play a backup sound when
there is no connection?

i know there is some way to set up a server on my wifi router, but
still, i will only be able to play what's in my collection, but not an
internet stream.

i've already missed couple morning alarms and was late to work( help!

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] internet radio

2011-05-02 Thread toby10

If connected to SBS server on your computer there is no need to switch
for internet radio or music services usage.
But you can manually switch from SBS to MySB.com by adding a "switch to
MySqueezeBox.com" Home Menu item.
Radio > Settings > Home Menu > "switch to MySqueezeBox.com" (near the
bottom of the list)

If SBS server is not currently running then selecting Internet Radio or
My Apps will offer a switch to MySB.com anyway.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Internet Radio oddity

2011-09-25 Thread xio

Hi,

Have an odd one here. I have several players, various flavours, Radio,
Boom, Slimp3, SbG, Sb2, Sb3. Most (but not all) are wired. For some
reason, my wired SB2 won't play Absolute radio. All the other players
will, including the SBG which is wired to the same hub and sitting on
the same shelf! Hardware wise, the closest thing I have currently is a
wireless SB3 which plays the station fine. All running the latest
firmware for the version of the server I'm running (7.5.4). The only
thing I can think of is that the SBG might route the radio feed through
the server, but the SB2 might go direct. I haven't yet tried hard wiring
the SB3 to see if it has the same problem. Even more odd is that the SB2
WILL play many other radio streams fine. Seems a bit random - I don't
know if it's the stream type?

Any thoughts people?

Thanks

[SlimDevices: Radio] Internet Radio Connection

2020-01-12 Thread Robocop

Not certain if this is the correct forum; maybe the administrator will
move it if it isn't

I have a squeezebox system in Spain; five devices of various ilk.

Some radio stations have disappeared while others haven't. This seem to
be a Squeezebox issue as I can still log in to the likes of Internet
Radio UK at hear the channels via my laptop. Classic FM, Smooth FM and
Heart North West have stopped whereas BBC4 FM and 1.FM Bay Smooth Jazz
(I think this is and international site) are still OK.

I did try to enter the URL for Internet Radio UK but that didn't work
either.

Any ideas?

I believe almost any multi device remote should work. Harmony certainly
does. Some JVC remotes might work, too. Or a SB replacement remote as

I did try with some old TV remotes today without success. Our SB hasn't
been used for a few years and now we are also Spotify subscribers. Is
there a chance to connect to Spotify? If we can't get Spotify running on
the old slim device then we might get some new gadget.

If you're running LMS, then you can install the Spotty plugin.

Thanks @slartibartfast
I had installed the Logitech media Server on my laptop yesterday without
knowing anything about it. I just though I'll try. Have found the
plugin.
So first next is a remote
Last night I also read somewhere here that Logitech wants to shut down
the servers or something there-alike. That would be sad as I haven't
found anything that would be equivalent to my old device.
Once more, thanks to you both!

Pointing any old infrared remote at the Squeezebox is not going to
work.
It recognises a very limited set - namely its own plus those a very old
JVC DVD player.

A universal remote has a good chance of working.

I bought it.
On a local forum under "Buy&Sell" I had put a WTB note for a remote
Squeezebox remote.
One of the members said; "There is a chance it isn't the remote but the
IR receiver on the unit". Is a faulty base unit a regular problem?
In any case I should receive the remote in a few days and I will report

Thanks everyone!!!:D
huh...
The Logitech Harmony 200 arrived and somehow I found a suitable usb
connection cable, set up a user through the web-interface and voila, It
does connect to the base station.
Now when I go to the LMS I cant find the player. Base station and laptop
are connected via wifi on the same network. I checked the firewall and
found nothing untoward and the same applies to the router.
I have read 'this'
and 'How do you uninstall a plugin'
though haven't seen the named server.
So what else could it be?
I am very keen to be able to use Spotify

[SlimDevices: Radio] Internet radio listings

2021-01-02 Thread JakeUK

Hi There, I have an Internet station and I received a message from one
of my listeners saying that she can no longer tune in via her "Logitech
inet radio" (which I assume must be a Squeezebox). She said that the
display now says that the connection timed out. I was not aware that the
station was even listed and it doesn't sound like the listener is
technically able to have added it manually so I'm wondering where the
listing would have come from and if there's any way I could update it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

[SlimDevices: Radio] internet radio format support

I am very interested in this radio, particularly I would like to use it
as a stand alone radio (no PC connection).

Can anyone confirm me that the only format supported internally by the
radio are MP3, Ogg Vorbis, AAC and WMA (no FLAC for example) ?

I am playing with SOFTSQUEEZE 3.8 on my PC and it is not able to
receive this radio: http://www.radiomontecarlo.net/Radio/asx/rmcfm.asx ,
VLC says it is WMA2. Is it a SOFTSQUEEZE only problem ? Can anyone try
to listen it using Boom ?

Many thanks to all

2009-12-07 Thread peter . s

How do these get extended and improved?
They are incomplete - e.g. only 3 stations are listed in National
Networks for the UK. And poorly organised - e.g. lists are not sorted
alphabetically. Even the names of stations/channels don't match their
'real' names.
Almost all the talk on this forum is from technical enthusiasts, but
you must get this right to become a consumer product...

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Internet connection drop

2009-12-24 Thread 0xdeadbeef

Yep, there's a heap of issues with alarm reliability and the handling of
the MYSB connection. Unfortunately none of them was fixed in the last
two months and chances are low that they will be fixed soon. Next
software release (7.5) is probably mid/end of January when the Touch is
finally released.

Unfortunately, I don't expect that the situation of the Radio will
improve much with this software as currently (and the last two months)
all resources were focused on the Touch and indeed changes for the Touch
seem to have introduced new issues with the Radio.

Then again: if you're optimistic, you could hope that the situation
might improve a little with the 7.5 release in a few weeks. Maybe at
least the backup alarm works most of the time then.

I'm pretty pessimistic though that the major problems with the MYSB
connection will be solved until then, since currently these issues are
ignored and/or denied by Logitech and obviously no work whatsoever was
done to fix the major design flaws.

hmm, not very promising
thing is that i bought to use as an alarm and i was sure it serves this
need

what about some alternative firmwares? has anyone done that?

did another check this night. thing is, when i did a spleep mode last
time i didn't have an alarm sound after it in the morning (it was set on
the stream) and this time a had a beep alarm instead (and the internet
was on).. pretty buggy all this. sad sad.

i could not wait for the device start selling in Russia and ordered it
from abroad and now these issues just ruin everything.. the sound is
nice though, the design, the controls... cmon, just give us a little
update on the software!)

hoping for the best

If you are willing to try out beta software, there are fixes for
Squeezebox Radio alarm issues in beta 7.4.2 and 7.5. See this thread for
info:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73000

Of course, it is beta so it may change without notice.

Great to hear that you're in Russia. Can you provide feedback on the
quality of the Russian translation or are you using the Radio in
English?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Internet connection drop

2009-12-25 Thread Marc

The new releases coming (7.4.2 and 7.5) are very unlikely to resolve the
majority of Radio alarm issues.

There are many unambiguous technical details as to why Radio alarms are
unstable. I have pinpointed the realities during my investigations and
significantly improved alarm stability by modifying the AlarmSnooze
applet. I've been communicating my findings and code changes directly
with the Logitech developer responsible for chasing the Radio alarm
issues over in the developer's forum.

In Logitech's defense, there hasn't been much time yet for them to
assimilate the information I've provided. We should give them a chance
to look over my modifications and the information I've provided about
what the detailed causes really are...

My investigation/modifications will continue and I expect to have an
applet ready for testing by others shortly.

See this thread for *detailed* information on what the actual alarm
situation is: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72871

While I deeply appreciate the effort you put in this, I somewhat doubt
that fixing the alarm applet alone will help much. As I already pointed
out before, the whole software of the Radio behaves erratically after a
reconnection. Chances are the alarm applet is not even started. At least
that is what happens for me.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Internet connection drop

2009-12-26 Thread Marc

I understand your frustration, as the (re)connection logic truly is the
underlying cause of alarm instability. I also understand your doubt
that the alarm problem can be fixed alone in the applet. If you have a
look at what is actually going on under covers, technically, in the
Radio when alarms malfunction you may have a different view though.

These are not guesses I've proffered up out of some misguided sense of
false hope.

While I do hope Logitech actually pays attention to the detailed
information I'm providing specifically as to why alarms are unstable and
then uses that info. appropriately in short order, my posts are not just
an attempt to prod the development guys (the *company* really, since it
looks like those above the developers' pay grades have made the decision
to prioritize other things besides Radio stability) into fixing the
issues. Nor are my posts merely an attempt to make myself or others
feel better about the situation because someone is actually looking
closely at it.

Let me be clear: I understand what's going on to the extent necessary
to, I believe, stabilize alarms. It's not correct that the AlarmSnooze
applet isn't started (or not receiving alarm set up requests), at least
in the context of my testing. For what it's worth, I have yet to see a
case where the originally provisioned (set up) alarm doesn't get to the
AlarmSnooze applet (as long as the MySB.com webpage isn't used, that is,
to set up alarms - see my note in next paragraph where I strongly
discourage the use of MySB to set up alarms).

You are correct of course, as Logitech development has themselves
admitted now, about the underlying connection/reconnection behavior
being at the heart of not only alarm, but also general Radio stability
problems.

It's true that my modifications to the AlarmSnooze applet are not (and
won't be) elegant. They are (and will be) a workaround to the
underlying general instability of Radio<-->server connectivity. The
logic I've added to the applet has indeed made significant differences
in alarm stability and I expect that they will be (cross your fingers!)
reliable enough to use with confidence once you've installed the new
applet. My strong recommendation for those connecting to MySB.com will
be to entirely stop using the MySB.com webpage for provisioning (setting
up) alarms in any form. In the MySB.com connection case, only the Radio
dial/buttons should be used to provision alarms. If that suggestion is
followed then I think that (while not elegant) Radio alarms will be
stable enough to rely on when using the modified AlarmSnooze applet.

Then, and this is the kicker, I (we) will head off to analyze/debug the
underlying connection issues... :)

What I meant is that e.g. several menu functions aren't working either
after a reconnection. E.g. setting the alarm time via the according

[SlimDevices: Radio] "Internet radio" is gone!

2011-04-08 Thread fridberg

I haven't been using my Squeezebox radio for some time.
However, now I have installed the server on my "windows home server",
and updates the firmware.

Now the menu dosn't contain "internet radio". I can go to my favorites,
then change library to mysqueezebox.com, and listen to those stations I
have defined as favorites.

I can also enter the console on the WHS server, and then choose
internet radio, but still, the menu option "internet radio" is not
there.
I have tried to reset the menus, but it did not help!

If the TUNEIN plugin no longer has international stations is there a new

Good question!

Tunein and Global say each other is responsible ... no solution as yet.
The problem is only with Global Media stations - most others should
play okay.

TuneIn has thousands of international stations ... perhaps a confusion
caused by the global reference which is the name of the UK radio
operator "Global".

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Internet Radio Connection

2020-01-14 Thread Paul Webster

Many radio stations are moving to use https (instead of http) to deliver
their audio streams.
This is not supported by many Squeezebox devices.
The problem has been hidden for many users because they run LMS (aka
SlimServer and other names) on their local LAN and then they access the
problem streams by having LMS act as a proxy.
"MySqueezebox.com" does not act as a proxy for streams.

However, there might be a non-https stream available for the particular
stations that you want to play ... in which case you can add the stream
URL as a Favourite.
Easiest way to do that is via the web interface at
https://www.mysqueezebox.com/settings/favorites

If you give the name plus some extra info (e.g. URL to their web site)
someone might be able to help you with a stream URL.

If you are using the radio without LMS then you have to add stream urls
as favourites under your mysqueezebox account.

Give us station names and we may be able to advise.

She can still add the station manually and save it as a favourite.

To be honest I'm interested in correcting any listing she may be trying
to use as others might be experiencing the same problem. Is there a
standard set of stations that come pre-loaded on Squeezebox devices? If
so, can updated URLs be sent to somewhere?

There are two levels of m3u - each with a http URL. The playable https
URL is in 2nd level of m3u.

When stream is playing. On Classic WebUI click the M (more) icon against
the playing station on RHS - it will open up Song Info on LHS - the URL
is visible,

I think URL can also be seen on other UIs (not Material) through More
menu.

It plays in the US.

JakeUK, just in case you aren't familiar with squeezebox and LMS, what
bpa and slartibartfast are referring to, a squeezebox device (radio,
boom, touch, etc) can be setup to stream either directly from the
internet (mysqueezebox.com), or through a server that can be setup on a
separate "computer" (Windows, Mac, Raspberry Pi, server, etc.) which
runs "LMS".

Chances are if she is using, say a radio "stand alone" to just listen to
internet stations (not her own music library), she is using
mysqueezebox.com.

As bpa mentioned, if the stream is https, it will not play on
mysqueezebox.com (only http streams can be played). It should play on
LMS unless their are regional restrictions. Many stations have recently
changed from http to https which might explain why it used to work.

Further complicating it is you can run a touch (only) on LMS without a
separate server, it runs on the touch (called tinyLMS) and this also
will not stream https.

The station streams from the USA. And yes, it is geoblocked on Tunein in
the UK due to copyright restrictions. It should be fine in the USA
though, where this particular listener is based.

It does redirect. First to
http://radiocoalition.org/listen/smoothjazz247.m3u, which in turn
redirects to https://ais-sa2.cdnstream1.com/b75154_128mp3

This seems to work for most listings, and I presume must have worked for
my listener, up until recently.

I tested both urls here in the US, they both play fine. As already
mentioned, your listener is probably streaming from mysqueezebox.com (or
even a touch using TinyLMS) neither of which support https streams. It
makes sense that this is a "recent" change. I have a friend that
recently "lost" stations, and he is using tinyLMS and it's due to the
stream changing over (actually redirecting) to a https stream.

Yes, we can list anything on LMS (the server) or add it as a Favorite to
the squeezebox.com listing. For example, I have one station with all 5
of their "listen here" links, as Favorites, and named for the QB device
that uses that stream (Receiver vs Boom vs Radio) because they have
different decoder abilities.

She might have found your stream from a search, and then added it using
LMS or web log in. Or, if she has the Radio and set it as a Preset
button, that would add it to here Favorites list without her even
knowing it. She can provide that link path to you for diagnosis.

Many thanks guys, you've been very helpful. I'm inclined to go with the
"https" issue, which might also explain other problems from various
platforms. I have opened a ticket with my streamers tech support to see
if they have a work around.

FYI, the listener came back with details about their kit. It's a
Logitech UE Smart radio model 930-000136. Still a bit of a mystery how
she arrived at the link. The only way I know for the station to be on
there would be in amongst the Tunein listings. But they should still
work fine.

A few years ago Apple made a push to require internet radio stream to
have an HTTPS url and it is better for security. However, if your
station become https *ONLY* you will be locking out not only Logitech
UE users but a whole lot of older internet radios (e.g. Roberts, Noxon
etc) users.

Your station could still support at least one http URL to maintain
listeners with older hardware - perhaps as a second station in the m3u
URL so that when 1st HTTPS URL fails to play, the second station in list
(a HTTP url) will be tried.

Which isn't going to work as/with the Squeezebox universe unless someone
specifically up/downgraded the OS in that unit to Squeezebox. The UE

That is a SoftSqueeze only problem as Softsqueeze can only play MP3 and
Flac natively. If you are using a non Windows based SC - install

Audio formats
* MP3, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, WMA, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, Apple Lossless

Internet radio
* Support for MP3, Ogg Vorbis, AAC and WMA formatted Internet radio

Why they differs "Audio formats" and "Internet radio" ?

Internet radio have transport protocols used to transfer the audio
stream across the internet. The list implies support of the transport
protocols.

For example - there are a few services which send Flac or WAV audio
streams but since the transport protocol is not supported or is non
standard - Flac and Wav are not shown as support Internet Audio formats.

Ok, now I am starting to understand.
This means that I need to investigate not only which codec is used, but
also which transport protocol is used by a radio to know if I will be
able to listen it using SB. Is it right ?

Yes. Most of the common formats are supported. The most common
problem type is "mms".

mms is a Microsoft format for WMA. Stations have a choice of
supporting mms and/or http as the transport protocol. A few have opted
for just mms and mms is not supported by SB players using Squeezenetwork
(the mms will work using a PC). MMS URLs are now deprecated by Microsoft
for a few years but some stations are loath to change old but working
systems. MMS is not supported by Windows Media Player 11.

The new players have more processing power ans capacity which means
they have the potential to support more protocols/audio formats natively
(i.e. can be played without a PC). The older players (e.g SB3) memory
is full and so will not support more formats natively.

OK. Back to my starting point: if I run "wget
http://www.radiomontecarlo.net/Radio/asx/rmcfm.asx"; on my PC, I get a
file containing:

Radio Monte Carlo
Radio Monte Carlo

http://151.1.245.1/2"; />

This means that the station uses both mms and http as transport
protocol and the player can choose one of them. This does not say
anything about the codec used to encode the stream.
This also means that SB player (or Squeezeetwork server software ?)
processes the .asx file to get the actual streaming URL.

Is it right ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] internet radio format support

2009-09-24 Thread bpa

ASX, SMIL, M3U, RAM, PLS are all playlist formats - text files which
have playable URLs.

These are read aread and processed by Squeezenetwork or SqueezeCenter.
After processing - SC/SN will have created a playlist of one or more
playable URLs - I think SN/SC may have to do an initial connection to
station to get stream format (usually through mime type and or
extension) so SC/SN can decide whether the stream can be played by the
player natively or whether it needs transcoding help (only with SC).

MMS and HTTP are considered equal by SN/SC and whenever it see two
identical streams - I think only one will be played and the SC/SN proble
will try using http first. IF it works then SC/SN will give the playter
the http URL that works. If probe fails then on SC it will try mms with
transcoding support, on SN it will indicate cannot be played.

No - but I've maintained AlienBBC (RealAudio/RTSP and SMIL playlist)
plugin and added AACplus support before 7.3 so I've worked my way
through a lot of SC code.

As I understand better how things work, I have more questions, sorry.

Do you use SqueezeCenter or SqueezeNetwork ?
My question is if your Radio plays this stream by itself (if you use
SN) or
SC is doing some transcodig to "help" the player.
In the second case, I would need to keep running SC all the time on my
PC and I would not like this.

thanks,

SqueezeCenter because
1. the main radio service I used use RealAudio and Flash/AAC both of
which needed transcoding or SC support.
2. I do not use the additional music services such as Napster, Pandora
etc. as they are not available to me.

We have covered this point already. If the stream is playing a
supported Internet Radio stream format then there is no transcoding.

If there is no transcoding there is no second case.

The test I did was with SC. I was planning on testing with SN as well
but to be quite honest I could't find the "tune in url" function on the
new beta SN site!

Hello to all,
I just ordered a Squeezebox "classic" (not yet received...), and I am
afraid now as I understand that mms radios are not supported by this
equipment ! In fact, I am French, and most of French popular radios
(that I want to listen in another European country) are streamed using
mms protocol... Some of them have recently switched from http to mms,
and I suppose they are not going to change again in the coming period !
Is there a solution for me, or shall I return my Squeezebox back to the
supplier and consider buying a competitor product supporting mms radios
?

Thank you for your help and advices.

First, http and mms are not mutually exclusive - often station give a
mms URL and in fact they support both mms and http. It would best to
post the URLs of the stations so that they can be checked they are
exclusively mms.

I would find it very strange that a station change would from http to
mms given that mms is not supported in newer version of Windows (and new
versions of Windows Media Player) - it would imply the stations have
reverted to either an old version of Windows or some other 3rd party
platform.

Thank you to answer so quickly !

If you have some free time, you can try the French Internet radios by
searching in : Internet radios / World / Countries : France / Towns :
Lyon (which is my town currently) and then trying "Europe 1" or
"Nostalgie" (or other radio stations, as most of thems have "mms"
streams...).

Let me know your test results.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] internet radio format support

2009-11-16 Thread bpa

Both those station (e.g. nostalgie 92.9 ) play OK on an SB3 connected to
mysqueezebox.com (i.e. they have http streams).

If you are using the SBS Internet Radio (i.e. Radiotime) option to find
the station URL - then WMA will nearly ALWAYS be shown as mms and so it
is not a definitive way to check whether a station is actually using
mms.

Thank you, it's a pretty good new for me !
I will try when I receive my Squeezebox and let you know if everything
is OK for me.

Thanks again !

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Internet Radio: stations & categories

I'd suggest installing the App "Radio Feeds UK & Ireland".
There are hundreds of stations, you can choose to sort alphabetically
or by genre, and a search by name option.
