Wow, I never would have pegged Joe Walsh as an SWL'er :-). I liked the Drake receivers. When I bought my R-5000, I was torn between it and an R8. I went for the R-5000 only because I had been lusting for it for years. I fire up the R-5000 here and there for some nostalgia, but I don't have the time any more. I think the airwaves are getting pretty desolate anyway. My kids got a kick out of my QSL card collection. -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 Duet, 1 Receiver, 1 Touch, iPeng on iPod Touch. Yep, Joe Walsh is a big time ham radio guy. From the wiki: Walsh holds an Extra Class Amateur Radio License. His station callsign is WB6ACU.[10] In 2006 he donated an autographed guitar to the ARRL in Newington, Connecticut for its charity auction. He has also been involved with the group's Big Project, which brings amateur radio into schools. Walsh has included Morse Code messages in his albums on two occasions: once on the album Barnstorm (Register and Vote), and later on Songs for a Dying Planet (Register and Vote for Me). +---+ |Filename: File_Wb6acu.png | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11936| +---+ -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88037 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Nowadays it is no big deal to listen to the BBC world service or canadian radio, etc. but pre-internet, it was essentially SW or nothing. -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88037 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Shortwave Stations
Hey WayneBR, thanks for the help. The http://95.81.162.158:8000/angliyskiy link worked for me in Squeezebox with the same live stream that was being broadcast from the http://english.ruvr.ru/ website at about 22:00 UTC. Maybe when you tuned in there was no live stream at that time. Where did you get the URL from on the Voice of Russia site and how do I find these links on other international shortwave broadcaster's sites? With so many countries cutting back on shortwave broadcasts and moving to webcasting because of the cost, I was hoping to use Squeezebox to update the shortwave listening hobby that I've had for 40+ years (oops- just gave up my age!) Thanks again for the help. -- Robdaman Robdaman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=47096 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88037 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Shortwave Stations
Same here, been listening to shortwave when I was 7, I'm now 67. The site you gave for Russia gave the link to click in order to listen. On my pc, this opened in Winamp. In wimamp, double click where the name of the station is located. This will give you the link for the stream. This may not work for all sites. Happy hunting... -- wayneBR wayneBR's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88037 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Shortwave Stations
Go to http://tunein.com/ (formerly RadioTime.com) and there you can search for stations and/or countries that interest you. You can get any of the stations on that will play on the website by installing the Radio Time app from mysqueezebox.com. You can set the ones you like as presets on the TuneIn site and they will appear under the Radio Time app menu on your radio. -- mpower9 mpower9's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33930 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88037 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Shortwave Stations
Don't think any shortwave broadcasts are on SqueezeBox menu's. Though if any such streams are out there you should be able to play them by a simple cut paste of their http URL into your Favorites. There is no single list of every stream offered, it would be in the tens of thousands. I'd suggest going to www.MySqueezeBox.com, create a free account, then go to Remote Control Internet Radio, start poking around. This will NOT play on your computer without adding a software player to your computer, but it will give you a general idea what is out there from around the world. I listen to jazz from Poland, easy listening from Paris, new age from S. Korea, I sometimes even listen to US stations. ;) -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88037 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Robdaman;633858 Wrote: What Shortwave radio stations or international broadcasters with English programming are available on the Squeezebox radio, and what apps are used or where might the stations be found? Thanks There are many. Just search Internet Radio Talk Public/NPR Explore Public/NPR National Networks. They aren't listed by language so you may have to visit the broadcaster's website to determine when the English broadcasts are. If you don't have a Squeezebox yet go to the tunein.com site and follow the same path. -- slam slam's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40404 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88037 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Try internet search for Radio Tirana. In the USA evening hours, the programs are in English. They even read QSL cards couple times a week. -- wayneBR wayneBR's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88037 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
