[RBW] Re: RAGBRAI?
I rode ragbrai in 2015. I’m nowhere near as strong a rider as you and had no problem with the ride. The outfitter I used doesn’t operate at ragbrai any more but if I ever did it again I would try to hook up with this group. “Pork Belly Ventures”. They make tent camping quite nice. They also have the nicest shower set up. They are pricey. Google them. David, I bought a burley dlite off Craigslist for $100. I haul my groceries more than my grandkids but it works fine for both. My daughter bought a burley encore. It has many nice features for collapsing and storage purposes. I believe they offer larger tires for off road use. New, they’re expensive. She purchased hers online from bed bath & beyond. They allowed her to use her 20% off coupon for a savings of $100. Howard Livonia Mi -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] What Is a Cheviot?
I currently have a Waterford Atlantis & a Cheviot. I consider the Cheviot my around town errand bike. If I know I’m riding over 20 miles I take the Atlantis. I had a Hillborne, early version with canti’s. I bought the Cheviot to replace the Hillborne because I was looking for the step through convenience when loaded on a shopping run. Unfortunately the step through is really step over. The Cheviot is a nice bike but I really miss that Hillborne. I also briefly owned a Wilbury Knowing what I know now, if I had only one Rivendell it would be a Hillborne. Hopefully the next batch that comes in has canti’s and isn’t stretched out in the back end. Im planning on buying one and moving the Cheviot down the road. [RBW] Trainers?
I have the kinetic fluid trainer. It will give you a workout. It will not give you the fun of cycling. If you think you would be satisfied riding one of those spin bikes in your home I would recommend the fluid trainer. If you get one be prepared for the puddles of sweat on the floor and on your bike. I ended up buying an old 80’s trek road bike so my good bike didn’t get all salty from the sweat. [RBW] Re: eClem again
I received notice that my Black Friday purchased Copenhagen wheel shipped and is going to be delivered on Tuesday. I’ve been looking at these for awhile, then Joe comes along and makes it to hard to resist. I plan to install it on my Cheviot. I’ll give ya my impressions once I get some miles in. Re: [RBW] There’s a new man in my life, and his name is Clem
I use a 3 place 1 up and I wouldn’t worry about the weight capacity. It’s very stout. I carry an ebike, Cheviot, and an Atlantis, all with fenders. The Cheviot is my only bike with metal fenders. I adjusted that foam fender piece so it meets the fender just above the fender stay. I’ve had no problems. The front wheel isn’t in play so no foam needed. I was previously using a Saris and I liked it but I changed to the 1 up because I didn’t like moving the wheel troughs around to adjust for different bikes. The 1 up also let’s me adjust to the number of bikes I’ll be carrying. Howard Livonia Mi. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] 59cm Clem barely fits in car, thus will be caried on the outside. I like the 1UP rack, but what about others...?
I’ve been using the one up for 2 years now. I bought it because I liked the expand ability feature. 75% of the time I only carry 1 bike, but when I need more space I add on trays. It will accommodate an old mtn bike, Cheviot, Atlantis & a 65 lb ebike without readjusting anything. I can also use my lift gate when I’m set up for 1 bike. [RBW] Cycling After Heart Valve Replacement
Paul, I’m not familiar with valve replacement but I have experience with cardiac rehab. I had 5x bypass surgery in 2013. I think you will find that you recover pretty quick. Being a cyclist your physical condition gives you a leg up on most cardiac patients. I went to a good cardiac rehab facility post op and I found it very helpful with setting my exercise parameters. In 4 weeks they had me jogging on a treadmill and 6 weeks post op I rode my bike 8 miles. 8 months later I did Ragbrai. Use that couple weeks after your surgery as a good time to tune up your bikes for when your back in the saddle. Best of luck to you and keep us posted. [RBW] 60cm Cheviot Owner Questions: Which Hitch-mounted Bike Racks Work & Largest Tire Width With Fenders
John I mounted my front fender using a daruma bolt trying to gain as much clearance as possible. The outside arm of the tectro brake interfered with the ridge profile of the fender. I attempted to peen some clearance but to get enough I messed up the profile of the fender. After buying a replacement I went to a Paul racer brake on the front and that gave me the clearance I needed. In the closed position I could have made the tectro work it was the released position that gave me problems. Trying to gain clearance in the open position led to the fender screw up. I had no problems with the tectro on the rear. I'm comfortable with the tire clearance I have but I ride roads all the time. If I were doing a lot of trail I would set up differently. 2. I second the saris freedom for the 60 Cheviot. I use it weekly and it is a solid platform for the step through frame. 3 I'm using the VO Zepplin 52 fenders with Compass Snoqualmie pass tires. The rear fender fit under the tectro r559 brake but I had to use a Paul racer brake on the front for clearance. I don't ride this bike off road much but if I did I would look for smaller tires to get some more clearance. https://www.flickr.com/gp/136422809@N08/R436zw Enjoy the Chevs Howard Livonia Mi -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] #%*#! Fenders!!!!
I also had the same problem on my Atlantis using the SKS fender. I would get everything adjusted perfect, hit the road and the front would migrate over and start the annoying rubbing. I fixed it using iamkeith's method, 1) As others mentioned and assuming there is a threaded boss on the underside of the Mark's rack, use that to suck the fender upward and stabilize. But do this LAST, after you have the rest as good as possible, because you have to drill a hole in a precise location. I didn't screw to the tab, I positioned the fender where I wanted it and drilled 2 small holes on either side of the tab. A zip tie holds the fender up against the tab now. 2 years no movement Howard Livonia Mi -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] The Cheviot has arrived!
Congrats on the Cheviot Rene. I'm expecting mine later this week. I noticed the cable stops were moved in the photos. Looking like maybe tectro in the rear and Paul in the front for me. I'm interested in how your tire fender fit goes. Those are the tires I'm planning on using also. Pics please Howard Waiting for the brown truck in Livonia Mi. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
