According to this post (with photos) from the Amtrak blog (granted, it's almost a year old), the new baggage cars were to begin testing and were supposed to be delivered by the end of 2014. Obviously that didn't happen, but at least things are progressing; maybe that Amtrak rep Marc spoke with will be proven right about a 2015 delivery? http://blog.amtrak.com/2014/06/new-baggage-cars/ On Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 11:42:16 AM UTC-4, Marc Irwin wrote: The funding and political issues are gone now. Re: [RBW] Re: GAP/CO trails in the early spring
Marc, Thanks for the trilogy. It brought back some good memories of a trip I made about four years ago, Rockwood PA to DC, self-contained and WAY too much stuff. Camped at the Y in Cumberland and at several commercial campgrounds off the C O. Transportation back MOST of the way with a scout troup, then picked up by my wife in Bedford (120 mi. round trip). Transportation on the return trip is always an issue, one way SUV rental from Reagan Airport to PGH is always an option. Anyway, I want to do it again! Steve, I live about 35 miles east of Pittsburgh. The Amtrak from DC goes right through and stops in my town but allows no bike offloading, even in a box. That, with roll on/roll off sure would simplify things for me, provided it happens pre-second coming. As I recall it, we asked directions to the BB and were told it was just a fraction of a mile down the road. As soon as we started rolling, it started raining. You were the only one to stop and put on your rain gear; the rest of us thought we could beat the rain, it was after all just down the road. So after a couple of miles (or so it seemed) we came to the gravel road. And by the time we followed that half mile or whatever of gravel road and arrived at the BB, we (all except you, of course, you having been smart and put on your rain gear!) were soaked. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. David, I live in Va., as you know. If you come east, let me know I'd love to do the trip again! I've done it (fully) a couple times, plus some shorter trips, so know where all the best food is! (Very important!) I can pay you back for your hospitality at the Strada Rossa. Marc, thanks for the great write up and for introducing me to your interesting blog. I also enjoyed your review of the Gunflint bag. I look forward to the rest of the trip story on the CO towpath. I hope to ride some of that this year and perhaps to eventually do some of the GAP as well.
