[Repeater-Builder] Spectrum Comm ST-250 and SCT-1500 900mhz
Some time back I sold a few of the Spectrum 900mhz paging transmitters, and at the time I couldn't find the manual so I sold them without the manual. Guess what? I found the manuals! At that time several asked me if I had the manuals, now I have them scanned in PDF format. Manuals are complete. If you are interested drop me an email. These are big files 6 and 11 mb, if I can I will send them by email. Jerry W9FS w...@w9fs.com

[Repeater-Builder] Repeater Linking
OK, I know I've mentioned this before, but I think I'm on to something now... I wanted to have a stand alone repeater linker, kind of a crossband repeater, that would link uhf and vhf repeaters together without needing to make any changes to either repeater. The problem I ran into is when the first repeater finishes transmitting, the linker will hear the second repeater (if the pl doesn't drop out) and will key up the first repeater again. This cycle will continue until you turn off the linker. I tried this with my crossband radio and it causes the same problem. One solution is to have the repeater controller stop transmitting their pl right after the COR drops. Not all repeaters do this, so you would have to be selective as to which repeaters you link. The solution I came up with today is to use a microcontroller with a built in a/d converter. If after the first repeater stops transmitting, the microcontroller can sample the audio coming from the second repeater. If I go through a high pass filter, I should (might) be able to determine if the audio is 'dead air', a courtesy tone, or someone talking. If it's dead air or a tone, I won't key the linker. I can then wait for the COR from the second repeater to drop, or listen for audio. Do you think it will work? - Jerry

No, not the mention that we should take time out for God. I am offended by the barrage of tirades assaulting Lee for daring to mention God. Lee, good for you! Everyone who is a Christian should be a light in their community, drawing men to Jesus. Oh no - I mentioned Jesus. I guess I will get a box full of email telling me how offensive I am. Perhaps if I mentioned Buddha or Mohammad, I would be ok. But I dared to mention Jesus. Folks, if you live in the United States, you are living in a distinctively CHRISTIAN NATION. Get over the PC garbage that has polluted and is destroying our GREAT CHRISTIAN NATION. The United States is, after all, ONE NATION UNDER GOD. When our fathers founded this country, it was not founded on some nebulous supreme being, it was founded by Christians who were escaping religious persecution. They came to the New World because they wanted to freely worship Jesus. The original colonists as well as those who wrote the foundational documents of this country knew JESUS CHRIST as their personal LORD and SAVIOUR. To them, the name JESUS CHRIST was a name with power, a name to be honored and revered. The name of Jesus was not offensive and was certainly not a swear word to them. Some believe that if we call ourselves a Christian nation, we are forcing Christ on all people. Nothing could be farther from the truth. As Christians, who acknowledge the Bible as their final authority, we must admit that all people have a free will. If someone decides to follow another religion, that is their prerogative, their choice. There is no reason to be offended by that. It is sad to see such replies from what I thought was basically a good group of people. We can peaceably disagree on doctrine, denomination and even politics. That is our RIGHT as citizens. However, when one person is vilified for his willingness to ask you to take a moment out for God, regardless of who you may call God, there is a serious problem. The problem is not with Lee, the problem is with all of you who are persecuting him (and I suppose, now, me). Now, for what I am sure will be the final straw for some of you. I shall quote some Scripture. John 15:25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. They hated Jesus without cause. What was Jesus here for? To sacrifice Himself to save mankind from their sins. There was no reason for them to hate Jesus. He came to save us all. If I were to run headlong into a burning building to rescue someone from the fire, I would be lauded as a hero. If I should happen to get a little burn, the accolades would be greater. Jesus was God in the flesh. As God, who cannot sin, He took the all the sins of all the world upon Him. Imagine the guilt you would hopefully feel if you murdered an innocent child. Aside from the physical torture He endured in the process of the crucifixion, Jesus took all that guilt of all our sins upon Himself for us. Where are His accolades? Why is He not a hero among you? If you would like to discuss this with me, please email me directly. rr...@librtynet. mailto:rross%40librtynet.com com Sincerely, Randy

Kinda. Problem: ID's. The RICK isn't properly ID'ing the link transmitters. Many of us have been down this path on the list. It'll lead to an annoying discussion of Part 97 if we go too far down that road. But you DO need to ID every transmitter. 'Nuff said. Best way: Put a dedicated link TX/RX at each repeater site or some sort of VoIP linking on its own controller port. In-band RF linking on the user input frequencies is a kludge at best. It can double with users, and has other timing problems... If you MUST link in-band, make the link margin (RF power) high enough that if the link doubles with someone, the LINK wins and captures the repeater receiver well enough that at least one of the transmissions can be heard by all... --- Nate Duehr, WY0X n...@natetech. com

The collector also feeds the input of your repeater controller. Then a writeup to repeater-builder Mike WA6ILQ Well, using Mike's suggestion, a suggestion from the VXR-7000 group, and some playing around, I finally came up with a solution. Both suggestions were to use npn transistors, but I had some FETs laying around and I wanted to try those. Here is what I did... I put the 2 diodes in series and fed the gate a 2n7000 FET with a pullup resistor on the drain and the source to ground. I tied the gate of a second 2n7000 to the drain of the first, the source to ground, and the drain through a pullup resistor to 12v. For the life of me I could not figure out why I wasn't getting the 1.4v drop across the two diodes. Then it came to me, there is no current from the gate to source in a FET. I put a resistor between the gate of the first FET and ground (provided some current to pass through the diodes) and VOILA! It worked like a champ! I haven't played around much with FETs. I just got started with them when a keyer I bought had a bad FET and I had to troubleshoot it. Thanks for all of your help. The voltage at the COR input is 0.00 volts when the correct pl is heard and the repeater controller keys up just like it should. 73, Jerry Steele K8CMI
