Ah, so that explains why you said earlier about pushing it up the list. I
didn’t realise that you looked after the Rivendell server. Is a Wiki something
that you or Fred are able to add to the main server (rather than it being on
the Tryphon server), or is this something that you would want hosted elsewhere?
I know there are a few of us here that would be able to contribute to
populating it with content.

I’ve just seen this on the Tryphon website via their Twitter Account.

Chers Clients, chers amis. C'est non sans émotion que nous devons vous annoncer
la fermeture prochaine de Tryphon. Merci pour ces années de confiance et au
plaisir de vous recroiser à nouveau.

Translated via Google
Dear Clients, dear friends. It is not without emotion that we must announce the
next closing of Tryphon. Thank you for these years of trust and the pleasure of
meeting you again.

Based on this, I think that we need to look into an alternative host for the
Wiki as I doubt that any new accounts will be added, and we don’t know how long
they will keep their servers up for. The version of MediaWiki on the Tryphon
server is v1.15.5 which is from July 2010.

Is the main Rivendell website hosted via Tryphon or is it on one of Paravel’s
servers?

I believe this is still accurate. I sent email requesting a wiki login a
couple years ago, and *did* receive one after about six or seven months.
It rather seems as if the Tryphon folks have moved on to other things at
this point.

I concur with others' views that Open Source and Free Software "support"
tools are most appropriate for this community. I maintain a couple other
MediaWiki sites, and I like the "familiarity" and the similarity with
Wikipedia, but MediaWiki is certainly not the only choice out there.

I just logged out of GitHub and observed that the wiki link disappears
when one is not logged in. :(

I'm willing to help move articles from the Tryphon Rivendell wiki to
whatever we collectively choose for a more modern platform.

github.com provides a project-level Wiki of some sort. But it looks like
you need a github id just to see it. I think it's also intended to be
geared towards the development process, not user-level stuff.

Re: [RDD] Rivendell Website and Wiki

2018-01-29 Thread Patrick
When I started using Rivendell about a year ago, I found the Wiki very
frustrating due to all of the outdated information.

As I learned more, I wanted to be able to make changes so the next person
wouldn't have to go through the same vetting
process I did. I never received a response to my offer to help with the Wiki.

Rivendell is amazing. The amount of time and effort that has been put into it
is stunning. I do wish the Wiki was open to the
Rivendell community for updates much like the source code on Github. It is very
gratifying getting a email that a pull request
has been incorporated into a Rivendell release.

I was more thinking of the main part of the site for the Wordpress rather than
the Wiki. The wiki I think should be like it is at the moment, a separate area
on the site. The question also needs to be asked, is a Wiki the best model to
use for the support side of things or is there an alternative solution in the
wild? Whatever solution is used, I personally feel that it should be open
source.

I would love to see that site renovated and brought into the 21st Century. No
question that it looks like a time warp from 1996 right now.

Any volunteers? Paravel will gladly donate server space and hosting for such.

Cheers!

Re: [RDD] Rivendell Website

2016-10-31 Thread Bill Putney
I'd suggest the Broadcast Appliance version of Rivendell from Paravel
systems. You can find it at
http://www.paravelsystems.com/rivendell-broadcast-appliance/ . It is a
LiveCD and includes the Centos Linux distro. Put a CD or thumb drive in
a PC and you have Rivendell in an hour or so. It requires a 64 bit
computer with at least 512 GB of disk. I think 4 or 8 GB of memory would
be good though I don't think the install script checks that. It will
install a several different flavors of Rivendell depending on if you
want a stand alone client/server or just a client. The server keeps the
audio storage and the database for the audio. The client does the most
of the work, has the user interface and does the playout of audio.

BTW, I fat fingered the address first time I entered it and
accidentally found the rivendellaudio.com
domain is available for 12 easy payments of $175 or a one-time payment
of $2095!

If outdated and nobody is maintaining the site, just add a redirect meta
tag in the main page of www.rivendellaudio.org site sending someone to
the main paravell site.

I don't know if the sites should/would ever be combined, but your
