CSDeionized water
Hi List, I am a new member and I hope you can settle an argument. I have been making CS for many years, using deionized water as I live in the UK where distilled water is hard to come by. I have now been told in no uncertain terms that it is impossible to make good quality CS using deionized water, and that only distilled water will do the job. The deionized water I was using for several years was from the biochemistry lab I used to work in, and had a resistivity of less than 0.1 uS/cm (resistance 10-15 megohms/cm), which is at least as good as distilled water. I now use deionised water that I buy (from my local pharmacy or from Superdrug), but it seems in every way identical to the lab deionized water - the initial current is identical and the colour and taste of the resulting CS is identical. Do I really need to start distilling water, or can I carry on using deionized water? If I can't use this water, why not, as it is at least as pure as distilled? Surely it is the purity of the water that maters, not the method used to purify it. Thanks in anticipation, Paul Holloway -- The Silver List is a moderated forum for discussing Colloidal Silver. That worked for me. Also, you I hope new replacement wicks were in your box at purchase--that someday you should wet and use; however, my experience is that a wick when properly wetted inserted will last a long time. CSDeionized water
Hi Paul, You're absolutely correct. The only criteria is that the water be demineralized. Distillation or deionization both do the job. When using deionized water it is harder to get the process of getting the silver to start releasing atoms because of the low water conductivity. As far as I'm concerned the end product is superior. In our area Safeway stores carry both deionized and distilled water. The deionized always has a lower uS reading. Surely it is the purity of the water that maters, not the method used to purify it. First of all dionized water is not necessarily as pure as distilled. For instance, if you put sugar in the water before deionizing and distilling, the sugar will still remain in the deionized, but not in the distilled. So the question is whether compounds that may be present in the deionized water could be a problem when making CS. Well, first of all, there are two main problems with contaminates when making CS. The first is that if the compound is ionic, then it will increase conductivity. But since it is deionized, these should not be there, and your conductivity measurements seem to confirm this. The second is are there ions available for the silver to react with, such as chlorine, the ammonia radical and so forth. Once again, those compounds and radicals will generally be ionic, and as such would have been removed. So my opinion is that deionized water should work fine for making CS. If you can end up with a clear batch with a good tyndall then I believe that would be the proof of the pudding. Marshall -- The Silver List is a moderated forum for discussing Colloidal Silver. i would agree with this. except for the staining of the teeth, silver should help encapsulate mercury fillings and be an advantage. i assume if it is coating the filling it is also being picked up by the enamel of the teeth. brushing with h202 afterwords may help with tooth staining but it would also probably remove any mercury on the amalgams. Thanks to all who have replied. I do get a clear CS with a good Tyndall effect, so I am confident that I am producing good CS. I do add a squirt of CS from my old batch to get things going, and it works well. A word of warning - I found some purified water in a pharmacy here that says it has resistivity of less than 30 uS which is *not* good enough for making CS. The purified water BP that I use seems at least as pure as deionized, so if you are in the UK make sure you use either deionised or purified water BP. The BP stands for British Pharmacopia and means it is very pure, pure enough to be used for making up IV medicines. Paul H -- The Silver List is a moderated forum for discussing Colloidal Silver. CSDispensing Question
I've made up a quart of colloidal silver. My first batch! :^) I currently have it in a 1 quart regular mouth Ball canning jar. (It's in the same jar that I made it in.) But when I try to pour out some, it dribbles down the outside of the jar in addition to what I'm trying to pour out, and not only is it making a mess, but it's wasting it. I can only dip a tablespoon into it when it is clear full. As it gets more empty, I won't be able to dip the tablespoon into it. So how do you dispense it? Do I need to use a different type of jar to keep it in? And if so, what? (I'm limited to what I can get in national chains like Wal-Mart or K-Mart.) But when I try to pour out some, it dribbles down the outside of the jar in addition to what I'm trying to pour out, and not only is it making a mess, but it's wasting it. I can only dip a tablespoon into it when it is clear full. As it gets more empty, I won't be able to dip the tablespoon into it. So how do you dispense it? Directions say for the first 2 weeks feed 1 heaping scoop twice daily for each 1,000 lb of body weight. Then follow with 1 heaping scoop daily (still per 1,000 lbs body weight one believes) as a maintenance dosage. HTH, paula Sharon wrote: Hey guys, A while back I saw a post on MSM for allergies, and I'd like to know if you think it might be helpful to a pony with allergies, and if so how much of it can I safely give a 600lb pony? I'm giving her CS too, and at one point was going to try to nebulize the CS but never got a chance to build some sort of bag to neb her with. TIA for any ideas. PS she's already somewhat grey so I doubt I would notice any changes due to CS if there were any. In fact theory predicts that true CS will help prevent argyria if taken with silver compounds that would have caused it otherwise. But even if it did, it seems to me the choice between a gray horse and a dead horse should be easy to make. I would think that dressing the wound with cloth saturated with CS and changed fairly often would be a good start. Also the addition of some DMSO to the mix would also likely assist. Remember that preventing an infection by putting CS on a wound is only part of the story. The other part is that the ionic portion promotes healing without scaring by triggering injured cells, and cells in a blood clot to revert back to stem cells. Marshall Garnet wrote: I have been discussing CS on a horse forum that I am on and some are very skeptical due to Argyria info they turn up on searches, but many are interested. Horse folks want to know what really works and will be easy, inexpensive and keep wounds below the knee from forming Proud Flesh, a common occurrence in slow healing wounds. I will be posting this information there this morning. It will be interesting to see how this cross section of humanity from Dressage Queens to Outback Sheep Herders reacts to this product. Garnet ~ Equus May 2004 in their New Products section lists VetAg Wrap. Antimicrobial wound dressings. A thin stretchable fabric made of medical-grade-nylon coated with 99 percent pure silver, these wraps are designed to inhibit bacterial growth in pressure sores, burns, abrasions and other open wounds without the use of drugs. The dressing is placed directly over cleaned wound, with or without an over lying bandage. The VetAg Wrap may be removed while the wound is cleaned, then rinsed in water and reapplied, but it needs to be disposed of once the wound has healed. The dressings come in three sizes and can be cut to fit. Manufacturers comments: 'Silver salve has been used on burn victims for years, and historically, it was used before penicillin was invented', says Marty Emrich, sales and marketing representative for Berlin Industries. 'The silver has been known to have antimicrobial properties for up to 28 days.' Price $9.50 for a four fy four inch pad; $15.99 for an eight by sixteen inch pad; $19.95 for a four by twenty four inch pad. Mist solution is what you said + Xylitol, GSE. I brushed wick and reversed wick last night, still just barely misted. Lunchtime today while watching TV turned it on and tons of mist like when it was new, or even more. Something must have gotten wet that shouldn't have. Brickey

A fairly new material, polyamide microfiber, may work well. I am eager to try it.It works very well on many surfaces but I have yet to try it on electrodes. Home experimenters? The material is sold widely; I got mine at Costco. Err, you could use a toothbrush or something like that if you want to follow those instructions. I'd recommend NOT to use steel wool, or 3m or Scotch abrasive pads or any of the cleaning liquids or pastes. But they don't say anywhere on the package what they are made of. I looked everywhere, trying to find some sort of scrub pads that were labeled as nylon, and couldn't find anything that specified what it is made out of.
