CS>tips for cystitis
I can relate to the IC,urinary infections and mostly kidney pain. JOni is right about cranberry. When you have urinary infections, it can be good to help infection but if you have interstitial cystitis, it will only aggravate the bladder lining due to its acidic properties. something that helps with interstitial cystitis for me, is slippery elm herb, bromelain and DGL tablets. If I dont take slippery elm on a daily basis, I cannot tolerate anything to eat including supplements without experiencing bladder and kidney pain. Yahoo! Sports Rekindle the Rivalries. Re: CS>cystitis
I have had many cultures that have been negative. These were done on the same urine that was examined, and it was pronounced that I had a bad bladder infection. My urologist thought I had IC, possibly along with intermittent infection. It was very useful to get a cystoscopy procedure done. You can see on the screen what the inside of the bladder looks like. In my case there was no ulceration or inflammation typical of IC. The urologist changed his diagnosis after looking at the inside of the bladder. He still doesn't know why I am not able to get rid of the symptoms, but at least I don't have to treat for a condition I don't have, and one which doesn't offer a hopeful prognosis. You can also try Prelief, and see if that helps. Also, write down a log of your day--what you eat, what you do, how you feel. See if you can notice some patterns associated with the rise and fall of symptoms. I discovered eating regular meals is very helpful, for instance, but I don't know why. I try to put all the things together that have a pattern of helping the symptoms, and removing all that aggravate them. Your doctor can instill injectable antibiotics, or anti-inflammatory substances into your bladder. Sometimes one antibiotic will work, whereas another one will not. In my case, the anti-inflammatory treatment had no effect, while the Neosporin instillation did. Later, the Neosporin quit working, presumably because the bacteria developed immunity to it, but Gentamicin worked like a charm. There are about five of these injectable antibiotics that can be instilled into the bladder. Usually, the bacteria are not immune to these since the antibiotics usually taken by mouth have had more exposure.

Began eating organic, lots of juicing as well. Candida, is cause primarily by over processed refined products. White bread, but then again most bread products. Enriched products like white flour. White sugar or any refined sugar. Keep in mind this takes time to generate. Even wheat products such as whole wheat bread. I was recommended that the ONLY bread I should be eating while on or off the detox is Organic spelt or rye. No diary either. I know this sounds like such a drag and believe me it was a challenge but I learned a lot and it worked. Please note: this is not advice, I would still highly recommend seeing a nutritionist who has experience with addressing this area. Joni, would you please go in detail regarding the DMSO treatment for IC? Thanks Frank - Original Message - From: "Joni Lovegrove" To: Sent: Sunday, June 26, 2005 4:21 PM Subject: RE: CS>cystitis If and after infection is ruled out with a culture, consider learning more about INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS (IC). If you do take antibiotics, make sure they culture and do a sensitivity test on what antibiotic to use, if you go that route. It would be nice if they could do a sensitivity test with CS, but I don't know of any labs that would test. Bladder infections are more easily treated, but if it spread to your kidney it is much more serious and difficult to treat, it also depends greatly on the type of bacteria. Vaginal yeast infections are also very painful and cause the pain associated with cystitis, many times after I am treated for yeast, cystitis is better. A good preventive for yeast is , Flora Q, it has several types of friendly bacteria, can be bought in some drug stores and most health supplement stores. I have had interstitial cystitis and vulvodynia for several years. I was (mis-treated) and misdiagnosed for urinary infections (cystitis) for years. The urine specimen would generally show a few white cells and red blood cells, so the average doctor would think it was an infection and give me a week of antibiotics. I would go back after finishing a round of antibiotics, with no relief, they would send the culture off, then call me to say I did not have any infections, and basically no relief or answers. After about 5 years of misery, three urologist, many antibiotics, and two family doctors, I finally found a urologist in 1999 that figured out what was wrong with me, and treated me, and knew about INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS. They immediately found I had inflamed bladder, very damaged, and certain cells that are diagnostic of IC and I was treated with much relief with DMSO. The treatment has changed some over the years, but I do get relief. Antibiotics can actually make IC worse if you do not have infection. However; it is always important to get a culture to rule out IC if you do find this is your problem. If I went to a doctor that was not familiar with IC and they looked at my urine on any given day (without sending it off for a culture), they would declare I had a really bad urinary tract infection and send me home with antibiotics. I do not know if CS is ever used with IC treatments, but I am sure someone on the list could tell you. I have heard others mention using CS with DMSO. Diet also helps considerably with IC, the cranberry juice that many people recommend for actual infections only exacerbates IC, anything acid is irritating to an inflamed bladder. You can get online and check out diets that help with bladder and vulva irritation. There is a product called Prelief, over the counter, mostly calcium, that helps tremendously if you take it before meals when you do eat something that irritates the bladder. Carbonated beverages, caffeine, and highly acidic foods are irritating for most IC sufferers. The cause is not completely understood, it can be caused from exposures, possibly autoimmune related, virus, hidden bacteria, fungal infections, still mostly speculation. It is VERY important that you do get cultures done to rule out infection or find out what kind you have and what the bacteria is sensitive to. I have had a few urinary tract infections, that were treated successfully with macrobid, it especially formulated for bladder and is much more easily tolerated than cipro and other antibiotics I have taken. When a urinary tract infection spreads to the kidney it is really a serious problem, so again, get cultured! With interstitial cystitis (IC), it is hard to distinguish between a urinary tract infection, or IC because generally you feel like you have a urinary tract infection. Most people with IC have frequent urination, especially at night. I have also found that lidocaine gel works when it is an IC flare-up to treat the pain topically when vulvodynia is flared up as well. I have also had my urologist to use lidocaine with DMSO or other installations, I can do them at home also. But, I try to have a culture once a month just to make sure I am not getting an infection. Hope this helps, I put off getting a culture last fall, felt sure it was IC and ended up with a really bad kidney infection and had to be hospitalized for a week with IV antibiotics, hope I never have to do that again. Through live blood cell microscopy it was determined I had Candida overgrowth and from the same test two months later results were negative. Hi there, Do a search in google, there is a simple test where you spit into a glass of water and wait ten minutes and if memory serves me right if you have candida then little branches start to form in shape. Candida is a huge subject and theres a group at yahoo. Its hit or miss what helps it, diet is vitally important. Re: CS>Silver Gel
Given that I remember reading here of CS becoming ineffective when put into agar medium for testing against bacteria, plus reports of creams and gels molding even with large proportions of CS used in making them, I also don't believe a gel would be as effective as using liquid CS and keeping it wetted. In the past I have done this by wetting the application area well and covering with a bandage wetted with CS. In an area where a bandage could not be applied, the wound was wetted with CS and covered with a thick layer of an ointment I had on hand already. My preferred method now is to use liquid CS with 10% DMSO added for taking the CS deep into the tissues. I do make my own cream using CS as the liquid portion, but that is just because I have plenty of CS so why not use it instead of DW? And I know from experience that this cream will mold if left out of refrigeration. I like to keep it simple. I frankly do not see the point (for myself, of going to the trouble to make up a gel as it is extra work for less effectiveness. But this is just my two cents. Fine for those who feel the need for a gel. sol Ode Coyote wrote: I would think a jel would be less effective than a soaked bandage...but... works works and convenience is convenience. I would like to help a friend who has hepatitis C. We would like to know anything and everything that would help him. To start with, what kind of CS works best? What is the dosage and how to take it? Is it better to take it with Gatorade for the electrolytes? Would Pedialyte (children's electrolyte solution) work as well? Does anyone have any direct experience with successfully treating this disease? Can you refer us to any web sites, or other useful sources of information. I've read about Bob Beck's treatment for AIDS, using a zapper, CS, and the device that you place over the lymph nodes (can't remember the name now--silver pulser?)? It seems that if this protocol would work for AIDS, a virus, it may work for Hepatitis C as well. Does anyone have any experience with the various oxygen therapies--hydrogen peroxide, hyperbaric therapy, and so forth? These also have been demonstrated to treat AIDS successfully, so why not Hepatitis C? Has anybody had any direct experience with treating Hepatitis C using reflexology? How about color therapy? What about direct experience using EFT?

There's no conclusion at this point, Angel. We've had one third hand report of a medical person saying they'd heard there was a problem with some sort of unspecified form of silver. Matthew has identified one article that *might* be the source of that caution, but we have not even seen what it contains -- what kind of silver in what sort of quantities over what period of time, etcetera. You must decide for yourself what you're going to do, as we always do. We need to evaluate this sort of information as it comes along. The truth needs to be known, whatever it is. For me, it's premature to conclude that a few ppm of silver in a few ounces of water per day is going to do anything bad to my kidneys. There's not yet any real evidence, only hints that there *might* be some such evidence, maybe. That's my take on it. Be well, Mike D. Re: CS>cyctitis
> I have had bad cyctitis for the past 6 days and my kidneys are > startying to hurt..i refuse to go to the doctor for antibiotics... > obviously!!! How much CS should i take and how often..please HELP Debbie, Dosing is not a science. The key word is "enough." If you've used CS before, then you already know that you're not allergic to it, therefore you don't have to start with the few drops on the tongue that I suggest to new users, "just in case." Beyond that, it would be good if we knew what kind of CS you've got. If store-bought, which brand and what supposed strenght? If home made, what kind of generator and how brewed. The usual advice is to start small and ramp up the dose until you have the effect you want. This is measured by either the symptoms improving or by the symptoms worsening (temporarily) in a Herxheimer reaction. In general, flu-like symptoms and a general yucky feeling mark the Herxheimer reaction. In severe cases Herx reactions can be life threatening, particularly in people who are already weakened. If there is a bad infection that is destroyed very rapidly by the treatment it can overwhelm the body, leading to a shock reaction that could require emergency treatment. Thus the caution to start small and ramp up until some effect is noted, then hold at that level until effects subside. When that happens, ramp up the dose further until effects resume, but remain manageable, and so on. Keep at it a few days longer if all seems to be well, just to be sure... So what sort of dose might you want to work up to? First, I will *assume* an "average" CS brew of some 5 to 20 ppm in plain distilled water made with a simple generator. For a very aggressive treatment, some of our members have reported good results taking a good mouthful (very precise measurement unit there!), swished around in your mouth for at least a couple of minutes before swallowing, taken every waking half hour to an hour. To start slowly, just to be cautious of any severe Herx, I would probably wait a couple of hours between "swallows" at first. One other thing is to consider adding Gatorade to the protocol. If you search the archives on that subject, you'll see that it is used to *drastically* increase the rate at which the CS enters the bloodstream. Lastly, I want to say that, if push comes to shove, going to the doctor for antibiotics is not out of the question. I doubt it will be needed, but if your self-treatment is not effective within a reasonable time, the conventional alternative will serve as a safety net. Not without side effects, true, but safer than no treatment. You must judge the risks and only you are responsible for the consequences of your health-care decisions. Don't take my suggestions as a substitute for your own judgement or that of your professional advisors. Let us know how you do, please? Be well, Mike D.
