2009-04-27 Thread batzcuz

May already have Ended, but hardly ever post here...so may Still, be use-full?
(List seems to have quieted down for the night, but Indi will likely be
up-again)

Sorry Mike, but not sure where you are hiding-out, so felt this was necessary,
my point being...you have a GREAT LIST and members need to RESPECT-IT!
Several members have asked and tried to re-boot Law Order, but NO-HELP!
With (potential) FLU Pandemic...LIST members need to be brewing Extra CS!

OK Indi, it's been FUN, but almost Monday morning...and CPU_Runneth_Over
...as Your PITA/PETA rantings have been endless all weekend...Time to END!
Near mid-night and BAT Squadron, is ready to launch...armed with Butt-Darts!

Personally Batz don't care much for PITA (the bread), or PETA as in Quakers,
but DO have problem with Turkey PITA as in (Pain_In_The_A$$) OT posters..!
Mike set-up Off-Topic LIST, just for PETA/TURKEY discussions...so USE IT
and stop being a BIG-PITA member over here where serious members reside!

Not trying to be a LIST COP...just a normal lurking member that got FED-UP!

LoL...Indi, try some CS on your fresh COYOTE BYTES/ Ode...got ya GOOD!!!
JOKING ALL ASIDE -- YOU ARE A CONFESSED, TURKEY THIEVING PITA!

Yes, I ended each sentence with an (!) point...to help you get used to images
of seeing BATZ (!) HYPODEMIC-NERDDEL loaded with THORAZINE..!  QED!

P.S. Ode mentioned Coyote friends really enjoying WILD TURKEY...Yummy,
but then...may have been referring to WILD TURKEY in bottles...maybe NOT?
Surely everyone knows TURKEY cannot simply FLY away...to avoid Coyotes.

Only (GOOD) non-PITA members may enjoy link to old WKRP Turkey-Bomb.
Hopefully, everyone will have few laughs at WKRP clip and get-off TURKEYs?

Perhaps you should report the *whole* story, rather than just the
sensationalist bits designed to manipulate people's emotions.

Hello, friends,

After more than 3900 messages ago, here I am back to ask the many experts in
the group about the expected effectivity of our beloved EIS/CS in the
control and cure of the swine influenza that has become a serious problem in
Mexico and has also appeared in the South West, NY and other areas in USA.

Y consider myself a very good disciple of the several of you that helped me
get started in this marvelous adventure several years ago. My chronic and
recurrent Ehrlichiosis seems to have disappeared (the symptoms totally have,
at least) and I have been very successful helping dozens with all kinds of
diseases, including a recent case of a young girl with osteomyelitis which
followed a previous aseptia state in her.

Thankful as always for your support.

CSTurkeys/Corpses . . . Time to Move On and here is How

2009-04-27 Thread sms
I cure these types of situations by 'Blocking' the poster I find offensive
or demeaning.
I simply author up several rules in the Message Rules area of Menu Heading
Tools in my mail client which states
that anywhere a message is found with some-such name, it should be deleted
either in my mail program or at the server.
Keeps things simple. And no one has to unsub from the Silver-list.

Mike is either on vacation or not well. This is uncharacteristic for him to
not reply. So something is not right in his corner.
We need to send 'Get Well' messages to Mike maybe.

Also, I don't know if anyone has awakened to the fact now that there is much
happening in the arena of this 'Swine Flu' which is a much more important
topic to discuss than 'Turkeys' - don't ya all think? Whether sponsored by
WHO or not, maybe we should spend some time tossing ideas around for a
preventative protocol using CS and anything else that someone knows about. I
just learned about Boneset for alleviating and preventing Flus.

Just ignore the Turkey thing and block anyone whose messages you don't wish
to appear in your mail. And let's get on with business as usual.

2009-04-27 Thread Clayton Family
Yes, good idea. I have already done so. I am ignoring messages with
headers I believe will not be any fun to read. I don't like getting
sucked into it, and do not want to respond, since responding AT ALL
only keeps it going. We can each take responsibility for our own email,
and only read what is relevant to healing, or whatever.

Have also sent best wishes to Mike, yes it is not like him at all. But
maybe he is on vacation.

Well, I for one want to plead with y'all to hang in there.  This is not normal
for Mike to let this go on so long, so something isn't right on his end.  In
fact, it's so uncharacteristic of him that I'm flat-out worried about him.

A few months back, we had this same problem on the OT list, and after several
members AND Mike called her on her list behavior, Indi chose to quit that list
rather than change her behavior.  She certainly knows that all of this is WAY
past list guidelines and belonged on OT from about the second post, but
admonitions to move it there aren't possible for her, because she doesn't
like the rules there, either.

That this is now happening on this list as well, with (I think) a new bunch of
people asking her to change her behavior, says a lot about her, doesn't it?

You may note that I have been totally silent through all this nonsense.
Mostly, I'm a lurker and learner here.  But Indi, this is about the third or
fourth time you have been in the same situation, and called yourself the
victim, when, in fact, you're at the very least an equal contributor to the
agitation.  Maybe it would be useful to take a step or two back and try to
consider why this keeps happening to you?

Meanwhile, I'm emailing Mike directly, because something isn't right.

CSnebulizer

2009-04-27 Thread Gail Rice
I don't have any info on nebulizers archived and I have questions for the
more experienced/better informed among us.
I remember someone mentioning metal parts - maybe a screen? - being a
problem in a nebulizer - as if the metal would cause the silver to fall out
of the EIS and one would only be inhaling water vapor. Does this sound
familiar?

Does metal in a container cause changes in EIS?

Someone in the past recommended a particular portable nebulizer as being
handy and effective for him. Does this sound familiar or does anyone of us
reading today have any info or opinion about using a nebulizer? What
protocol or device would you consider or have you used? If you used one,
what were your results?

Hi i know this is off topic but, due to various digestive issues, I use
undenatured whey protein powder to help with protein levels. Does anyone
know of any that do NOT contain artificial sweeteners. I'm hoping to be able
to find a supplier in the UK but if anyone knows of any brand then I can
search for a supplier.

Will it help with just asthma? How much do I give her? Do I mix it with

CSFirst-hand view of industrial chicken raising...

2009-04-27 Thread M. G. Devour
This message was too big for the message size limit. I'm forwarding it
with some edits for size... and tone. (Mary Ann will recognize where
that happened, and forgive me, I hope! sigh) I thought the account
she presents is worth hearing.

- Original Message -
From: MaryAnn Helland
Sent: Monday, April 27, 2009 12:58 PM
Subject: Fw: My last post on the topic

Some of the major national chicken processing plants in the US are
right here in Western Kentucky as well. My experience may be
miniscule in your opinion, but we've raised chickens for three
different national companies -- Seaboard, Con-Agra and Pilgrim's Pride -
 - and were part of a network of hundreds of breeders and growers. Due
to networking within the local and national contract growers
associations, we came in contact with and became friends with many of
the people who owned and maintained poultry barns, and have personally
been in many of those barns. So my experience, in our part of the
country, is actually fairly broad.

Debeaking was discontinued many, many years ago. And I've never even
heard of searing of the toes -- I can't imagine what would be so worth
accomplishing with that procedure, that the processor would make the
investment.

Your comment that debeaking makes for messy eaters that contaminate
the feed and floor made me laugh. The *contamination* that you
referred to does not come from the front end of a chicken! lol And
chickens are extremely indiscriminate, as are most birds, as to where
their *contamination* lands.

Incidentally, water isn't a concern for *contamination* -- they don't
drink out of troughs! Water lines are suspended along the length of
the buildings, along which retractable nipples provide fresh, clean
water when the bird pecks at the nipple, which is a little bit above
beak height. There was a time when suspended water tubes (half-tubes)
were used, in addition to the water lines, for several days until the
baby chicks learned how to operate the nipples -- but that practice was
discontinued many years ago, when it was learned that the chicks
learned almost instantly how to do that. I am not conversant on the
raising of Cornish game birds, but cannot imagine that they water their
birds in any less efficient fashion than the chicken industry. And
efficiency is the name of the game.

The life-span of the birds is determined by market demand for size. In
the chicken industry, the target is a four-pound bird. This produces
the size of drumsticks, breasts, etc., that is not only normally
selected by the American consumer, but also by national chains like
Kentucky Fried Chicken, as their storage, cooking and serving equipment
is tailored to that size. Chickens normally reach that size in 5-1/2
weeks. And yes -- during that period of time they mostly eat, drink
and poop -- and sleep. That's pretty much what chickens do no matter
where they live. I think it's a real stretch to think that they have
any kind of *fulfilled* life experience. But our chickens always
seemed pretty content. They played, ran, had mock battles -- they were
pretty funny to sit and watch.

To the uninitiated, the smell inside poultry barns is unpleasant. It
was something that I never got used to myself, but the operators of the
barns and the service personnel of the processors and the repair people
from various equipment companies -- all seem unbothered by it. And in
fact, great sums of money are spent on elaborate ventilations systems
designed to evacuate stale air and replace with fresh. Because you are
exactlly right -- chickens are extremely sensitive to ammonia, and high
ammonia levels negatively affect the cost/gain ratio Fact is, birds in
high-ammonia level houses do not thrive.

Birds in high-ammonia level houses are in the hands of poor management
practices. In our part of the country, the processors have a crew of
supervisors who visit every single poultry house a couple times a week
to check on the progress of each flock. High ammonia levels are
discovered very quickly, and remedies arranged for. A grower who
repeatedly has these problems finds themselves very quickly with no
birds to raise; and with no birds to raise, has no money to pay for a
huge mortgage obligation, and therefore either gets in line with
quality practices, or sells their operation to someone who will.

Oh -- by the way -- the breathing apparatus you referred to? It's
primarily to protect the lungs of the people in poultry houses from the
dust laden air. By the time chickens reach adult size, there is dust
from the floor, dander from the birds, as well as feathers -- all
floating freely in the air. This is exacerbated during the winter
months, when the cooling systems for the barns are not in operation,
but rather heating systems which dry the air as well as warm it, thus
encouraging the dusty atmosphere. The water (mist) of the cooling

sounds like the wrong kind of strainer, since it is catching the ions.

One could decant it into another container after letting it settle
overnight, leaving the bottom stuff behind.

Or a paper filter could be used, maybe rinsing it first with some
boiled distilled water. This works for me, with no decrease in the
reading.

sounds like the wrong kind of strainer, since it is catching the ions.

One could decant it into another container after letting it settle
overnight, leaving the bottom stuff behind.

Or a paper filter could be used, maybe rinsing it first with some boiled
distilled water. This works for me, with no decrease in the reading.

CS[List Owner] I'm Baa-aack!

2009-04-27 Thread M. G. Devour
Hello, everybody!

As Mark Twain said, The rumors of my death have been greatly
exaggerated!

I sincerely want to thank EVERYONE who expressed their concern and left
me messages over the last several days as I was absent when needed. I
am still coping with some health issues that limit my energy and often
monopolize my attention. However, in this specific case, I just
happened to get really busy at precisely the wrong time...

I was fully caught up with the list as recently as early on the 23rd.
It is now the 27th. When did all hell start to break loose? The 23rd
and 24th... sigh I got so involved with a project for my family that
I failed to even *think* about the list for several days.

Today I checked in, deleted about ***Five THOUSAND*** SPAM messages
from my in-box, and caught up with both the list and private
correspondence. (Wayne: Before you say it, mate, it's actually helpful
for me to LET all that SPAM come through in order to avoid false-
positives in the spam filters getting in the way of some members'
ability to participate in the list or to contact me. It's a price of
doing business, I'm afraid! grin)

Okay, so what's happened? It started innocently enough! Poor Leslie,
for reasons I understand PERFECTLY well, asked a totally off-topic
question about what kind of cord to use to lift or turn a turkey in the
oven... That's all!

(By the way, Leslie, my wife has a contraption of wire and chain that
is designed for that operation. You lay it in the pan under the bird
before cooking and it's there when you're ready to lift it out of the
pan afterward. Google 'chain turkey lifter.' You can let your son know,
for future reference! wink! )

Several folks helped her, exactly as she and I would both expect to
happen with this great group of people, and in the process a few folks
started trading tips on slow-cooking various meats.

Anyone who's been here any length of time knows I don't object to a
little OT chit-chat and noise, and that I accept and even encourage
health-related questions not directly related to CS, so long as they're
treated more briefly and don't overwhelm the discussion for long
periods of time.

However... If you're looking to turn things into a big mess, just get
us started on a debate over politics (animal rights, anyone?) or
religion (vegetarianism vs. eating meat)...

I joke... a little. sigh

Finally after no fewer than twenty off topic posts on cooking dead
animals, Indi posted her story about releasing a live turkey doomed to
be raffled off for the holiday, many years ago. When confronted over
the political/ethical aspects of this by Teri, she explained, 'telling
that story was simply my gentle little way of saying, we don't all
want advice on how to prepare corpses in our inbox. No offense, but
this is the silver-list...'

Okay, let's do a little analysis: The rules allow *some* OT chit-chat.
The rules ask you to contact me, the list owner, if you feel that
anyone's behavior is offensive. In those rules, I specifically
discourage members from playing List Cop by posting complaints about
other members. Dealing with all of that is supposed to be my job. The
rules also prohibit politics, religion, and any other obviously
controversial topic that can be reasonably expected to trigger an
argument.

List rules? We have rules? Yep. They're at the web site that's linked
to in the footer at the bottom of every message from the list:

   www.silverlist.org

Now maybe you haven't heard from the list owner in many weeks? Maybe
he's not really paying attention? Does that mean it's okay to post just
a little hint or two that you don't like what's going on? Does it
mean you should jump on another member's remarks because of their
controversial overtones? Does that mean that everybody who's ever been
annoyed with anybody else can pile on and say anything they damn well
think, and snap back with whatever they like?

Are you tired of rhetorical questions yet?

Let me tell you why you have heard so little from me lately: Yes, I'm
dealing with health issues and a bunch of family obligations. However,
in case you haven't noticed, it has been MONTHS since the main list has
*needed* any serious intervention from me. You have all been doing an
outstanding job of staying reasonably on track, taking care of new
people and each other, and steering clear of discord. I had to beat
down a brushfire on the OT list around Christmas time, and again in
January, but beyond that I can't remember the last time I had to step
in at all seriously on the main list...

I just checked. It was early November of last year.

Think about what that means? Thank you, folks! You did that!

I really do depend on you to govern yourselves as much as possible (and
not each other...). Despite Steve's assumption that I caught a couple
of his posts, I don't actually review the messages before they go out.
(His probably got snagged by the very low, 18k message size

Usually, silver of at least 99.9% purity (.999) is recommended.
According to http://www.austincoins.com/peace_silver_dollars.htm ,
the 1923 Silver Dollar is only 90% (.900).

It's really disgusting; part of what no doubt pushed Indi to continue

Thank you Mike, so do I.
And MaryAnn, my apologies to you for the hot tone of my response to your
post Re: Indi.

I have some specific comments, but first I have to admit that if 10
years is many many years ago, your point regarding improvement in
practice is a valid one, and as I said in my post to you, I'm pleased
that you (and your associates) were/are running clean operations,
congratulations!

The business in Petaluma and the Central Valley in CA is indeed
different; or at least was. There were no contract barn operations,
there was vertically integrated business; Foster Farms.
There are other firms in Oregon, I'm not sure of their affiliations or
integration-association status. The primary reason for their location
is, of course, to be close to the feed source; the Willamette Valley in
OR and the Central Valley in CA.

Since including my responses within the text of your post would make it
too long again, I'll try to compact it up in this part and shuffle back
and forth between mine and your'n.

I don't question your experience as poultry producers, I question it as
being knowledgeable about the entire industry; you state you produced
400,000 birds a year; Foster Farms produces about that in a week -
counting more than a single processing facility, but nevertheless.

If you knew that de-beaking was common practice (many, many years
ago), why did you dummy up and try to make Indi out to be a proven
ridiculous liar for bringing it up as an objectionable practice? My
point is not to defend Indi, my point is that I object to the
rat-packing that has been going on here; and I must say that you have
been one of the least offensive, but you got me with ... proves she's
full of BS

The other part of that paragraph that made you laugh is at least
condescending and it should have been obvious from the context that I
was referring to any spilled feed on the floor being contaminated with
fecal material. Chickens Are indiscriminate, and that extends to their
eating habits. LOL and all that. Oh I know it was just a joke. I
suggest if your intent is to engage in more rhetorical divagations you
do so off this list; you're welcome to email me your best.

The Cornish Cross, or Hubbard, is the standard commercial meat bird.
And as you repeat, 'many years ago' the watering practices were
different.

To the uninitiated the smell is pretty bad; hell, it's pretty bad to the
initiated, it's even fierce just driving by on a warm afternoon. And
yes the dust is a serious problem, as is ammonia.

Of course I'm correct that the chicks are vaccinated. I'm also correct
that vaccination for Marek's damages the immune system, but the
alternative is worse - for the producer. Any facility that becomes
contaminated with Marek's is essentially a lost cause and better
abandoned. A commercial operation can't stand that.

Regarding finished weight: east coast, west coast. . . I thought
Kentucky fried liked smaller ones, airlines smaller yet?

I quote you . . . . .
I also had a chuckle at your comment that the chicken's legs are
slammed into the clamps. Nowhere else in your post is it more
obvious, the emotional and derogatory slant of your opinion. Come on
Malcom -- there's nothing *pretty* about the food-producing industry.
You can demonize it, if you want to, but the fact is it's necessary --

And nowhere else in yours is it more apparent that you employ condescension
as a tool to put down others - strictly low-class, kiddo; i.e. don't do it, K?
So anyway, Chuckles, I'm glad to know there's nothing pretty about the
food producing industry, but you missed on that emotional and derogatory
slant part. I occasionally raise or hunt, slaughter, cut and wrap my own meat,
no
light task for an old man any more. (and yes, I even buy it out of the store,
too; just no moral fibers left, I guess)
But I've watched the line, many, many years ago, of course, and it MOVES!
And they get slammed in. People (workers) don't get payed much to do this,
and they're pushed to do it fast, quid pro quo, doncha know?

I don't demonize the meat industry, and I don't demonize you; I object
to you demonizing and slurring someone else who raised their own
legitimate objections and stuck by their principles, and I object to you
shading the truth by denying the facts regarding de-beaking with a flip
evasion about Beaks and feet were never removed -- if they were, then the
birds
would not be able to get to the feed and water that they need to survive,
much less grow to harvest size..

take care,
Malcolm
