Hi Mike, I personally see no problem with eskimo at all. The few glitches
there have been are IMO completely acceptable and indeed, I didn't even notice

are slight hiccups. Far, far too much more in this world to worry about little
things like that. Thanks for all your endeavours on our behalf. dee

Hi Mike - I too have no problem with eskimo. I imagine you are the one
with most of the headaches.
And I much appreciate your not taking the easy route. Important
information, including whole lists, not just certain posts or threads,
can just disappear, without notice, when the big group folks decide
something is not appropriate, sometimes because some federal
protective folks are unhappy with alternative health methods, and
needle yahoo (or google or...) into compliance with their stance. I
know you're not just paranoid about this one - I've experienced it. Sara

With all due respect, you don't understand the reasons for the list being
the way it is. Mike D hasn't made this choice lightly, and I for one
stand firmly behind the decision. Just one reason alone is enough: He
(the list owner) has been adamant about no one being able to mine email

He will state this more elegantly than I, but what you don't know can hurt

First off, I hope David has been able to get into the web site and see

Carol and others, I REALLY do understand the appeal of Yahoo or Google

My most urgent reason for never going to one of those options before

ten years with no security issues.

Yes the archives search was down for a long time, and yes Yahoo is not
perfect. But it does offer many

advantages.

Although the reason Mike chooses to have his list on Eskimo is his own,
and well, he does not have to

justify it to me or anyone else. He is free to choose!

I am fine with the list the way it is. It works for most of us most of
the time and that is about all you can ask.

Never would have have said Mike's choice is bad choice, but from personal
experience yahoo has been great for all groups I'm on and lead. For this
group,
great mail and lots of great interaction. However, on this end gotta figure
out
if I can just read from Eskimo. I know I can switch to digest for this group. I
suppose I can still search here, but haven't tried that.
--
No I don't understand the problems with yahoogroups so can't speak on that
behalf. I use it and have love that I can read emails there too.

--
I am grateful for the list, the way it remains, blessed to learn and hopefully
contribute as well.

Don't want this to look like I hate the list, but offered suggestion based on
my
own experience only. How it works for Mike is great and not looking for him to
do what is ideal situation for him. I know he puts lots of time in here and
with my group that I lead--nothing needed and mainly self run. Off to exercise.

There is no perfect list serve, BUT I have also been on Yahoo for over ten
years
with no security issues.

Yes the archives search was down for a long time, and yes Yahoo is not perfect.
But it does offer many
advantages.

Although the reason Mike chooses to have his list on Eskimo is his own, and
well, he does not have to
justify it to me or anyone else. He is free to choose!

I am fine with the list the way it is. It works for most of us most of the time
and that is about all you can ask.

HI Mike,

A major hassle for me trying to move an existing mail list to a Yahoo
Group has been the lack of enthusiasm from existing members to sign up to
Yahoo. I have a list of about 150 and have only persuaded 2 to move over.

I initiallly sent out a few invitations to friends to see how it all
works and I got growled at for spamming them !!

The other major thing about the way you are doing it is the total lack of
interference from advertising. I positively dislike the jumpy uppy down
garbage adverts on the Yahoo screen. It is totally irrelevant and
uselessly distracting. What features do people want that you are not

Re: CS[List Owner]Archive listing on web site...

2010-08-28 Thread Sandy
I can tell you from personal experience it is no fun having a very active forum
shuttered because someone does not like you. A friend and I had an MSN group
which became very popular having thousands of posts per month when some harpies
[using nice language here *blink blink*] who were jealous of our popularity and
for...ahem, personal reasons got in touch with MSN and basically lied and had
us shuttered. After several weeks of investigations MSN found out they'd been
lied to but by then it was too late and the damage was done. We lost valuable
poetry, photos and posts not to mention a thriving membership.

I see nothing wrong with eskimo and IMO it's not all that different than yahoo.
Yahoo has constant problems with their search engine which is pretty
frustrating at times.

I've found most of the information on the CS forum so valuable that I'd be
silly to complain...ahem.

Sandy

With all due respect, you don't understand the reasons for the list
being the way it is. Mike D hasn't made this choice lightly, and I for
one stand firmly behind the decision. Just one reason alone is enough:
He (the list owner) has been adamant about no one being able to mine
email addresses and this solution provides that.

He will state this more elegantly than I, but what you don't know can
hurt you...and it would seem you don't understand many of the reasons
*not* to use yahoogroups.

sure if I have that option for eskimo!!

I know list owner is not crazy, but may be perhaps stubborn or doesn't
know how to open a yahoo account. Mike, I'm not super geeky but I am
glad to help you as best I can. I bet we have geeks here that know a
lot. I propose keep archives where it is presently, close off
archives and open same list with same name at Yahoo from here
forward. How about it?

Thanks list owner!
