RE: [RCSE] hitec eclipse 7, electric setup

2002-09-12 Thread Douglas, Brent

re my problem with the Electric setup for an Eclipse, I did come up with a
compromise.

Since I have crow set up, I couldn't just assign the spoiler to motor easily
(mostly because then you get into the game of throws: go to full throttle
and flip the landing mode? turn off the crow and the motor fires up??).

What I did was set the mixing switch (long one on the right) to be the
control for the throttle - on and off for mixing, then the spoiler / left
stick runs the motor linearily (sp?). I'm hoping this just is a stop-gap
measure until this flyer gets used to using the on-off switch; I can't help
but think that will be much less confusing.

Thanks for the suggestions all,
Brent

Subject: Re: [RCSE] DLG launch question

FWIW, in learning to discus launch, I've found that it's more
important to initially focus on correct footwork than arm motion.
This clip of a world champion discus thrower shows the footwork
clearly:

http://www.throwfarther.org/videos/discus/lars_reidel_96.mpg

I think I've seen that video about a thousand times, and practiced
the footwork in my backyard, holding a stick instead of the plane
(just don't let go!). If you download the adobe premiere demo, you
can look at the clip in slow motion. The key to the windup is to
have your lower body initially rotating faster than your upper body,
allowing your body to 'coil.' If your feet are moving slowly, you
will miss out on this, and rely too much on your arm. Once your
footwork is really consistent, you will gradually throw harder and
harder without having to 'muscle' the plane with your arm. The
increase in launch speed will come from quicker feet, not your arm
and wrist getting stronger.

As with any sport, it's easier to develop good technique from the
start rather than to fix hitches later on.

When using a momentarily on switch (like the snap roll switch on my
JR 783) for launch presets, do you hold the switch on throughout the
launch until right after release or do you just give it a
brief 'blip' upon release? I'll be throwing an Uplink if that
matters (no gyro).

I used to play racquetball when I was in better shape and I had a
decent wrist snap. When you launch do you try to minimize any wrist
involvement or maximize it?

When you first start throwing, can / should you start slowly in
order to get the proper form before putting muscle behind it?

I've checked out as many videos as I could find of people
launching. I'm hoping I'm making a bigger deal out of it than it
really is...

 Thanks in advance,

 Kevin

[RCSE] Computer crash

2002-09-12 Thread Tord Eriksson

Hi friends,

This is your friend The Zagiist speaking!

Recent developement is powering a Zagi THL
with a geared 300 motor - not a success as yet,
but I haven't given up on it, yet!

But now to the subject:

I have had a flakey PC for a long while -
but after coming home from a short vacation
to our capital its Window Milennium Edition
system decided to be terminally ill, so no
Windows no more!

The Linux system is up since yesterday
night, and works well, but not fully configured
yet (pictures and mpegs are still a bit off), so
I lost all mail addresses I had.

Please send me a line, so I can rebuild
my past mail address index!

Yours, on a sunny September afternoon (20.5 degrees C),

Re: [RCSE] Receiver MOST Resistant to Interference?

2002-09-12 Thread Fred Marks

Dear Bill,
I can assure you there are none. If you want to prove that, just run
the test we use to qualify every new receiver design: 1) Put the receiver
in an airplane big enough for you to see at 2,000 ft up. That will have to
be at least six foot span for the average person. Our Tim and Howie can
see much better than that as the airplane always disappears from my 69
year-old sight long before he quits climbing the airplane. 2) Install any
receiver you want to check 3) Pick a clear day; don't try it when foggy ,
cloudy, or high humidity 4) Fly the airplane to the max distance you can see
it. You had best do this overhead as it is difficult to see an airplane at
2,000+ ft down low against clutter 5) Collapse the transmitter antenna
(Better yet , have someone else do it as you may lose sight while doing it
yourself. 6) Fly the airplane with the antenna collapsed just as you
normally would. 7) Turn on at least one adjacent channel transmitter and a
3rd order interferer while doing this. 8) DON'T DO THE FOLLOWING AS WE
HAVE ALREADY DONE IT WITH M5: Turn on a transmitter on the same frequency
and watch the SMART decoder reject that transmitter. CAUTION: If you try
this, be sure to have a helper stand by to pull the transmitter antenna to
full length. All this in a package that weighs about 9 grams.

Happy flying,
Fred Marks

In my search for the MOST interference resistant receiver, I decided to
throw caution to the wind and purchased an FMA M5.

Any other worthy options that are known to be technically superior?

Hi all,

I've been slow in getting the pictures to the web this go-around, sorry. I've
got a couple of pages of thumbnails this year also, so there are more pics. I
left a lot more on the web site just to let you see some of the scenery, hope
you don't mind.

Also, I lost an update to the Sponsors page so will have to go back and
research who has been left off. The sponsors were great! The sponsors page
has and will be a great bookmark page. I'll get if fixed real soon.

Thanks to all that attended Soar Utah this year, I had a great time and met a
lot of new people. ..you meet the best people at Soar Utah!

One last item, I have not put very many captions on the pics yet, it you would
like to send me accurate information to put on a picture I would appreciate it.

Thanks again,

[RCSE] Airtronics rx?

2002-09-12 Thread Pat Sloan

Guys,

I recently acquired a little slope foamie, ready to fly with servos and rx
etc... The rx is an airtronic 92745 dual conversion with 51 xtal. I don't
have that channel, so anyone either have an mpx cockpit tx 51 or an airtronics
rx 55, 47 or 18? Sell or trade?

Also what shift is airtonics? jr/mpx or hitec/futaba?

Re: [RCSE] Airtronics rx?

2002-09-12 Thread Bill Conkling

Airtronix is same shift as JR, but is this an old Airtronix rec or a
newer Z type. If it is the old one, be careful with the servos, as the
wiring is not campatible with JR/Futaba/Hitec. If the connextors are same
as Hitec, it should be Z type and pos is in the center of the three pin
plug. If the plugs are thicker with ridges or grooves on one side of the
plug, they are probably the older style and the Neg is in the center.

[RCSE] Slope Trash Magazine is back!

2002-09-12 Thread Greg Smith

Greetings fellow Slopeheads,

Thanks to an arrangement with the original publisher, Roy G. Biv,
slopeflyer.com has agreed to provide server space so STM can again bring you
the kind of stories you learned to love in the past!

Here is a direct link to the Slope Trash Magazine home page:
http://www.slopeflyer.com/artman/publish/cat_index_10.shtml

Here is a bit from the new home of Slope Trash Magazine on what this site is
all about:

Slope Trash Magazine¹s future expansion and development will be driven by
contributions from on-the-edge slope soaring fanatics (homo slopiens), and
we look forward to presenting the writing and photography of as many
contributors as we can.

STM is not for kit reviews or promotion of any specific maker's products.
Rather, it's a place for stories and images that express the spirit,
irreverence and boldness of extreme R/C slope soaring in both humorous and
solemn terms. Our aim is to publish the highest quality text and images, so
send your best work.

Like much of slopeflyer.com STM now incorporates a Content Management System
that allows authors to post stories directly from their browser. If you
would like to know more about how you can post to Slope Trash Magazine
anywhere you have access to a computer and an Internet connection, please
contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I will fill you in.

You can always go to slopeflyer.com and find the link along the left nav bar
as well.

Your question illustrates a big advantage of the MPX transmitters.

With MPX you're not limited which channel does what. You can select any
channel to do any function. Very handy.

I looked at the sponsor list and it looks like Dave Sanders (Dave's Aircraft
