I drew the box design out on a 4x8 sheet of coroplast. I cut the solid

the cutting was done I found some sho-goo at wally world to hold it all
together. Used stick on velco to hold the lid closed.

[RCSE] Icon and JR 10X Transmitter For Sale

2005-04-11 Thread George Voss
Good condition custom painted Icon for sale. This was used mostly on the
slope and has the usual little dings you get when landing on the slope.
There are some repaired LE dents in the wing. The plane is white tops and
red bottoms, with red splashes on the on the tops of the tips. This is your
chance to own what is arguably the best designed, best flying sailplane
around. The only reason I'm selling it is because after a year and a half
wait, I'm at the top of the list to get a new one. While this plane shows
signs of use, there are lots of thermals and lots of wins left in her. No
radio is included. $1200. I will consider JR 368's as partial trade.

New JR 10X transmitter for sale. This radio was purchased to fly my Tug and
giant scale power stuff, but it looks like my 9303 will do what I need it
to, so the X is for sale. $600 + shipping. This is for the transmitter
only, no case, no module.

I also did kind of that. Installed MS-X3 (MPX but same as Naro) in my

Did you know that with full digitals all over the current consumption in a
good F3B start is above 6amps?.. And on the turnaround they have

The Volz Micro-Maxx X and Micro-Maxx XP are rated at 56 and 67 oz. in.,
respectively. Both are 0.51 in. thick. JR DS368 is rated at 53 oz. in. and
is 0.5
in. thick. The HiTech HS-5245MG is rated at 61 oz. in. and is 0.7 in.
thick.
Is the HiTech superior to the others since it is 40% thicker?

Funny stuff Walter :-) My kind of humor :-)
Thicker is more durable in the case of the thin wing servos versus the
'usual' wing servos. Not much torque is actually needed for TD use if
the linkage
geometry is correct...optimizing the servos capabilities. So while thin
'works', thicker usually works longer :-). I know of a case of a contest
being
won in very windy conditons and the winning 3m moldie had HS55's on all
surfaces. (was a test case for 'lightness' but ended up being the only
plane the
guy had left to fly that day) No zooms or harsh movements or landings
obviously.

I think digitals put higher peak load on battery which might cause
glitches
on supply depending on power cabling size, length etc. I'll search for
 information.

If anyone has any data on digital/analog mixing failure (or success)
please
 reply. TIA.

 Hi Walter,
What planes are you flying this season? Which TX are you using.
I am flying the Pike and use Stylus..obviosly with Volz servos...hundreds

[RCSE] 94751Z servo

2005-04-11 Thread d. o. darnell
Thank you for the correction. The Airtronics Retail Price List 2005
(REV2005001) has this servo listed as
"NEW Mimcro Digital Servo High Spd High Tor" and I copied the description
text from it. I didn't check the weight, but have since gotten the 2005
Airtronics Calendar/Catalog wherein the servo is listed correctly as
"Competition Digiat Aircraft Servo at 1.8 oz, which as, as you say, not a
"micro".

Re: [RCSE] flap servos

2005-04-11 Thread Albert E. Wedworth
Hi Walter.
Put the best servos you can afford in your plane. Put the strongest servo
on the elevator it is the most important...
Digitals aren't all that good... I haven't noticed that my planes fly
better with them installed.
I just pulled out all digital wing servos in my 6 meter Ventus 2AX and
reinstalled Airtronics 141 throughout..
I haven't burned out any of those servos yet... ( I won't go into my
problems with digital servos )
Also put the biggest battery pack you can squeeze in the nose ( less nose
weight )
Install the servos you like to use
Everybody has there preference i.e... JR, Volz, Airtronics, Hitec.

Cheers
Al

[RCSE] Things get thicker and thicker :-) in the context of wing servos :-)

2005-04-11 Thread GordySoar

The Volz Micro-Maxx X and Micro-Maxx XP are rated at 56 and 67 oz.
in., respectively. Both are 0.51 in. thick. JR DS368 is rated at 53 oz. in. and
is 0.5 in. thick. The HiTech HS-5245MG is rated at 61 oz. in. and is 0.7 in.
thick. Is the HiTech superior to the others since it is 40% thicker?

Funny stuff Walter :-)  My kind of humor
:-)

Thicker is more durable in the case of the thin wing servos versus
the 'usual' wing servos.  Not much torque is actually needed for
TD use if the linkage geometry is correct...optimizing the servos
capabilities.  So while thin 'works', thicker usually works longer
:-).  I know of a case of a contest being won in very windy conditons and
the winning 3m moldie had HS55's on all surfaces. (was a test case for
'lightness' but ended up being the only plane the guy had left to fly that
day) No zooms or harsh movements or landings obviously.

Denny- I may have a set of the HL ones that I decided not to use on a

them to you for the cost of shipping. Can you wait until this evening?

RE: [RCSE] PCM failsafe - which position?

2005-04-11 Thread John Diniz
I've been using PCM for years and here is how I set up my failsafe.
Initial flights are done set to hold so I can dial in the landing mode. Once
satisfied climb to a good altitude and pull the stick down to a position that
puts the plane into a slow steady glide (no porpoise). Remember that stick
position and land. Once on the ground set the stick to that position and set
the failsafe. Launch again and test by turning off the tx and see what the
plane does (remember to turn back on 8^). This also works if you have to land
out behind some trees, just turn off the tx. Don't ask me how I know this works.

OK, those of you who fly PCM - what's your preference on fail safe
settings (Hold Last Input, or Preset)? My inclination is to have
everything return to neutral except maybe rudder to 1/8 - 1/4 throw or
something.

Don't want to ignite a debate on why PPM is better...presume the
decision on whether to use PCM has been made.

Tom

[RCSE] Sopranos Come and Gone

2005-04-11 Thread Mark Miller
Hi All,

I got a shipment of Sopranos in on Friday and they are
all spoken for. I have another order due to be shipped
early May. If you want to get on the wait list let me
know preferably at [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have
Trios in stock as well as a few electric front
fuselages for the Soprano.

Due in with the Sopranos in May is a prototype RES 2
meter called Duet. I am having one sent to test and
see if there are needed changes. It will be pod and
boom with the typical Ukranian built up wing and tail.
Shoud be a cute little bugger. It will also be
available in electric version.

Also note that "by May" means it will be shipped to me
in May. Last time it took almost two weeks for Customs
processing and then the shipping label fell off and it
was at my local DHL depot for almost a week until we
found it. Sometimes it can take two weeks to get here,
sometimes not.

Cheers,

Mark Miller

[RCSE] Traveling with COROPLAST

2005-04-11 Thread CrsKnowles
    Morning Mark Meck,

Your coroplast storage/transport box sounds like something I need.

Have you any images of this thing?  I'm going to visit an ex-wife, on the left coast in Oregon country.  I have a two children, a grand child, male and a great-great grand daughter out there.

The ex lives on her farm.  The farm raises sheep, goats and horses and transplants.  There have to be large fields for grazing Maybe even slopes.  Think I'll take two or three 2 Meters.

Coroplast could make it so I get to fly that week.  Your triangular shape wouldn't lend itself to stacking anywhere but on top.  That could save my planes.

 Christopher, in Omaha

[RCSE] Coroplast storage boxes

2005-04-11 Thread Mark Wales
I made these storage boxes a few years back and they are still like new and
work great for storaging and transporting to and from flying.
The Windsong box (red) took one whole sheet of coroplast to make, but there
is a lot of room for the plane and wingrods. The Camano box (blue) took a
little less to make but along the same plans just scaled it down to fit.
The coroplast only cost about $8 for a 4 x 8 foot sheet. I found it at a
local sign making shop.
If anyone would like a copy of the plan sheet and some pic's please let me
know.

Mark
