[RCSE] Left Coast At It's Best

2005-05-08 Thread Marc Gellart
Well, that $1.92/gal gas I bought this weekend and these nice large grassy
fields we have in fly over country to fly our sailplanes, just adds another
reason that living here may not be flashy, but definitely has less hassles
to get around. California is a great place to visit, but I am glad you boys
live there and not me.

I feel bad that CVRC is getting the hassles, just hope that they can work
out the issues.

The link below takes you to an article in the Visalia Times. Read the
article and see if you don't agree that we're extremely fortunate to have
the flying field that we do. Dudley

Re: [RCSE] Blind Nut Stripped

2005-05-08 Thread Steve Meyer
I had the same problem. It looks like the blind nut is aluminum and the
threads were slowly wearing away. Through further investigation the
supplied screw was only engaging about half the threads. So I took the
middle screw moved it to the front and purchased a 30mm to use in the
middle. All seems to look good for now. I think a thread lubricant would
be a good idea to help preserve the existing threads that are there.

My Shop Theory book tells me that an 8-36 SAE machine screw has a major
diameter .010" larger than the diameter of the Metric screws that came with
my Eraser. Has anybody had a similar problem and found an easy solution? I
am thinking of tapping the blind nut to accept an 8-36 cap screw since the
4.0 metric cap screw does not engage correctly.

etc.

thank you in advance, davenport race is fast approaching and i need to dust

[RCSE] Thinning the field

2005-05-08 Thread George Voss
OK guys, here's the story: I need to generate some cash quickly so I'm
selling some of my "reserve" items. I've priced them very low for quick
sale. As usual, first come, first served. All servos are used and work
like they are supposed to. Most of the micro-mini servos have had the lugs
and plugs cut off so they could be used in a sailplane wing.

Please note that my back has been giving me fits lately. This means I'm
slow shipping! If that's an issue, please don't buy anything. I need
everyone to be patient with shipping. I'm slow, I'm telling you now, but
you will get your items!

I'd like to sell them in groups if possible and I'd prefer to sell them
direct instead of using Ebay. Here goes:

8 each 5102 Futaba Precision metal gear micro servos. These sold on the
street for $65 each. $30 each or $200 for all 8.

6 Each JR 4131 Ultra Precision servos. These were what pattern flyers used
before digital servos came out. These sell for $80 on the street. $50 each
or $270 for all 8.

2 Hitec HS525 servos. These sell for $30 each. $40 for both of them.

2 Futaba 5101 High-speed coreless servos. These sell for $60 each on the
street. These were what pattern flyers used before digital servos came out.
$40 each or $70 for both.

2 Multiplex Micro 3BB MG servos. These have less than a dozen flights on
them. $30 each.

2 Airtronics 141 servos. $25 each.

2ea Futaba 3002 Metal gear precision mini servos. They sell for $65 new.
$40 each or both for $70 These are excellent flap servos.

3ea Hitec 225MG servos. These also make excellent flap servos. They sell
new for $30 each. $75 for all 3 and I'll include a 225 nylon geared servo
or $20 each.

4 micro servos, 1 JR 341, 1 HS85bb, 1 HS85mg and one Airtronics 501. $60
for all 4

3 Hitec Supreme receiver. $35 each or all 3 for $90

1 Futaba R127 standard size receiver w/# 50 crystal, $30

2 Futaba R129DP PCM 1024 receivers. $80 each or $150 for both.

10 standard servos, various models. $10 each.

AMD 3.7M Ventus. NIB. I removed the covering from one wing because I
planned on using Ultracote covering instead of the included Solarfilm.
These sell for $375, $300 + shipping

M&M Glider Tech F-80 foamy. Missing instructions. $35

As I find more items, I'll update the list. TIA

Re: [RCSE] Blind Nut Stripped

2005-05-08 Thread Tom Watson
Heli-Coil it. I had a similar problem with a moldie a few years back
and this worked perfectly. Make sure to work slowly and carefully and
use cutting oil to minimize the possibility of breaking the blind nut loose.

[RCSE] F3J TS Site Selection Official

2005-05-08 Thread Jim Monaco
The Rocky Mountain Soaring Association is pleased to announce that we have
been selected as the host site for the 2005 US Team Selection event!

The event will be held August 19-21 at the Scienturfic Sod Farm in Brighton
Colorado, a few miles north of Denver International Airport.

Participants from the last 2 cycles should be receiving this information
along with their ballot for approval of the currently proposed team
selection rules. This package will also contain registration information
for entering the event with the AMA. New participants can register for the
event with the AMA by calling Lisa Johnson at (765) 287-1256 x231.

In addition to the AMA registration we are asking all participants to use
the RMSA online registration process on our website. There is a $10 local
registration fee to cover expenses not reimbursed by the AMA for running
this event. The RMSA website provides for RMSA registration and you can pay
your local registration fee by paypal or mail. The RMSA registration allows
us to do advance coordination of frequencies to minimize frequency
conflicts. In the registration form please put all the frequencies that you
can fly on in order to allow the greatest flexibility in managing
frequencies. We will attempt to minimize frequency conflicts and will
arrange frequencies so there are no conflicts outside of your team.

The RMSA website also provides a Team Management tool where you can organize
teams for the event. Please use this tool to enter your teams. This helps
us plan for field size requirements. You must register on the RMSA site
before you can create or join a team. The tool allows you to create teams of
2 types, PUBLIC and PRIVATE. The person who creates the team is the team
manager. You will create a public team if you are looking for other pilots
to join your team. Public teams can be joined by any pilot that has
registered. No intervention is necessary by the team manager. Private
teams are for teams that know who their members are. The Team Manager for a
private team creates the team, then as the team pilots register the Team
Manager is allowed to add the registered pilots to their team. Only the
Team Manager can delete a member from any public or private team. Private
team managers must have the AMA numbers from their pilots to add them to the
team. If you have any trouble with the team manager application please
contact me.

While I will do my best to help find towers for teams that need them, that
is not my responsibility! I will be providing a list of available local
towers that you can use on a first come first serve basis. If that list is
exhausted and there are no more towers available locally it is not MY
problem – so do YOUR best to find the help you need either by self team
towing or bringing your help.

You can find the PDF for the hosting document at
http://www.rmsadenver.com/f3jbid.pdf . There is a lot of good information
about the resources in the local area in this document. Feel free to share
it with other pilots interested in attending.

You can find the registration and team management web links at
http://www.rmsadenver.com/f3j-ts.htm

If you lose this direct link, there is a link from the main RMSA web page
http://www.rmsadenver.com

As a shameless plug – there is still time to enter F3J in the Rockies for
May 28-29 at the same venue as the team selections. This would be the
opportunity to get a little experience at the team selection site….

We look forward to hosting a first class event and selecting the next US
Team.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] .

Good Luck and hope to see you here!
