[RCSE] FW: Mark Your Calendar
Look out cause here I come!!! MARK YOUR CALENDARS Slap Your Co-Worker Day is Coming!! Tomorrow is the official Slap Your Irritating Co-workers Holiday: Do you have a co-worker who talks nonstop about nothing, working your last nerve with tedious and boring details that you don't give a damn about? Do you have a co-worker who ALWAYS screws up stuff creating MORE work for you? Do you have a co-worker who kisses so much booty, you can look in their mouth and see what your boss had for lunch? Do you have a co-worker who is SOOO obnoxious, when he/she enters a room, everyone else clears it? Well, on behalf of Ike Turner, I am so very very glad to officially announce tomorrow as SLAP YOUR IRRITATING CO-WORKER DAY! There are the rules you must follow: * You can only slap one person per hour - no more. * You can slap the same person again if they irritate you again in the same day. * You are allowed to hold someone down as other co-workers take their turns slapping the irritant. * No weapons are allowed...other than going upside somebody's head with a stapler or a hole-puncher. * CURSING IS MANDATORY! After you have slapped the recipient, your "assault" must be followed with something like "cause I'm sick of your stupid-a$$ always messing up stuff!" * If questioned by a supervisor [or police, if the supervisor is the irritant], you are allowed to LIE, LIE, LIE! Now, study the rules, break out your list of folks that you want to slap the living day lights out of and get to slapping.and have a great day The information contained in this e-mail is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain information that is privileged, confidential or otherwise protected from disclosure. Re: [RCSE] Receivers Tested
Well, that's the rub, isn't it. We can measure the losses associated with (I'll assume you are referring to) base loaded whips, in the lab it equates to ~15%. The manner in which I did this was to mount the RX (and antenna element) within a chamber and rotate it every 5-10 degrees and take a measurement, in all 3 XYZ planes. The end result is a 3D plot which will allow aggregate gains and losses to be directly compared with other designs. As to extraneous interference and how it may adversely impinge on our communications requires other techniques, like onboard pulse emission detectors. Although diagnostic in nature, the evidence is definitely empirical. Years ago I offered ready-built versions, but precious few saw the advantages, so I gave up. I can't tell you (nor can anyone else) how various forms of extraneous interference will impinge on our communications systems in advance. Those of us who work within the confines of RF design and application can make educated predictions that can be very accurate...based on experience. Bill Swingle wrote: When I tested a number of RX's some 10 years ago all were acceptable, in fact within a few dB of each other. OK, most models today are fine. I'm not surprised. But, I'd like to know what the Rx will do when the pilot gets stupid with the installation. Meaning: What happens if I cut the stock antenna and use a bad "shorty" antenna? What happens if I have to fold a portion of the Rx antenna (small portion) and then fly DIRECTLY infront of a commercial antenna broadcasting who knows what frequency(ies) at thousands of watts? These are the questions I'd be interested in hearing answered. Not that I've ever done either of these, I'm just curious. ;-) Bill Swingle RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] IHLGF 2005 - Last Chance to Enter
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Your overwhelming response to the IHLGF 2005 and the FREE DSL Clinic has resulted in a sold out, 90 pilot registration. Even though the 90 pilot limit (15 pilots per heat with 6 heats in a round) has been reached, we know from doing this many years that some of those paid registrations may not be able to make the event. So the IHLGF 2005 Committee has decided to accept 5 more registrations. If you have been holding off, this will be your last chance to enter. The next five paid registrations will be accepted, provided your frequency is still available. For information on the IHLGF 2005, the DSL Clinic, and an entry form for the IHLGF 2005, go to http://www.torreypinesgulls.org/IHLGF2005.htm. Please fill out the entry form (be sure to include at least 2 frequency choices) and then fax it to me at 760-634-0620. By doing so, I will be able to include you in the frequency allotment. Also, be sure and indicate on the form if you want to attend the FREE DSL (Discus Style Launch) Clinic. I will still need you to mail me the original entry form along with a check for the appropriate amount to the address on the entry form. NOTE: The following frequencies (channels) are closed: 19, 25, 30, 31, 33, 34, 40, 42, 50, 51, 52, and 54. The following frequencies (channels) have no one on them: HAM 3, 4, 5, 9; FM: 36, 57. Once again, thank you for your continued support of the IHLGF. Ron Scharck, Registrar
Re: [RCSE] Receivers Tested
We have the facilities. There are a number of ways of generating comparison data: - Controlled signal O/P, over-the-air especially valid if performed within the confines of an anechoic chamber. - Direct measurement (COAX soldered directly to the board) using a modulated signal whose power can be accurately attenuated When I tested a number of RX's some 10 years ago all were acceptable, in fact within a few dB of each other. As to the validity of performing back to back comparisons I'm not sure there is any value in it, especially from a consumer standpoint. The measurements are irrelevant given that every end-user installation is different, and has significantly more bearing on system (signal) integrity than the actual RX sensitivity. The waters a muddied now, especially with onboard smarts which are becoming more effective at discerning the intended signal in order to maintain communication integrity. With this last statement, the actual measurement (in dBm) where a particular RX will no longer respond to a valid signal will be similar amongst the current crop of RX's be it smart or not-so-smart (no onboard uprocessors). Just how effective a RX with onboard smarts can differentiate the correct signal under less than ideal circumstances (some sort of controlled extraneous EMI/RFI) would probably be of more value. This is where differing opinions start to play a part. As to what sort of test parameters would emulate the above premise, and be an acceptable means of gathering data would be valid discussion to start with. We had to design a RX which would allow wireless data acquisition to check the mechanical integrity of super large combustion engines on gas trasmission lines. Lot's of EMI/RFI from multiple spark ignition systems. As a spark in itself generates EMI/RFI from DC well up into the GHz, it has the potential as a noise generating device that cantbe controlled. [RCSE] Receivers Tested, yep..all of them.
For those of you who actually read the magazines, or know something of our radio history, you'll recognize the name George Steiner. George tests all RX's that we get to buy, officially or for his own interest. Since he was part of the team who wrote the AMA specs that suppliers must meet for AMA certification, he kind of knows them. He has been an rc pilot since before I was born, so he knows what is needed in a RX to work and knows what is desired. He knows the difference between a nice gimmick and a beneficial feature. He tests on the bench with gadgets and he field tests too, but at this point he knows from the bench readings if its gonna work passing by close to all 50 Tx channels on and along the flight line. Currently the problems aren't inside rx's, they are 'around' the rx's. No matter what bumps and humps are glued or soldered to the rx's boards, if the signal can't get to them, they can't do their job. The Carbon/Kevlar burlap weave fuses that are nearly unbreakable are just as tough about sheilding the rx antenna from its Tx's signals. Today all the majors are making sufficient rx's, as are the innovators like Shadow or Berg. All are susceptible to component gremlins or manufacturing snaffoos but in general all get the signal and use it just as well as the next. If there is a problem with some of the new rx designs, its that they are too tinyfor old eyes, clunky, bulky servo plugs and stiff fingers, when located in tight fuses :-) Gordy Milwaukee Wisconsin today

Last case was my Sharon, where the front nut was only 1/2 visible through the wing hole when the center and rear were in. I used a big soldering iron to melt the blind nut right out of the epoxy holding it in. Then, in my case, I enlarged the hole in the right direction and glued it back in. [RCSE] Receivers Tested
Is there a way to test the quality of a receiver using some kind of electronic measuring device - and has it been done? I am looking for what's "best" and want to know if the data is available. The reason being is all receiver data I have found is wholly subjective - "X brand is better, I never had a problem" or "X brand receiver has the best range I have ever seen". Sometimes these praises come from manufacturers or distributors and which can further complicate the truth. Field range tests are dependant on so many variables that the "what works for you" theory is not very helpful to anyone else. Has anyone ever sat at their workbench and measured in a controlled, quantifiable way? Who's got the tools to do so? Thanks, Paul RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Fwd: Fw: [SVSS] CVRC in Trouble?
Guys, and gals, I sent the note about Visalia for your information. Please don't flame the reporter that is mentioned in the letter, or anyone else for that matter yet. Apparently, there is one person that is the cause for CVRC's use of the land as an RC glider venue being considered inconsistent with agricultural use. The owner and CVRC are working on it, and I think that chances are pretty good that compelling arguments can be made so that state officials understand that not only is RC use consistent with the Ag. zone for that property, but that CVRC's presence is very beneficial to that portion of the property working correctly as part of the overall AG. system around the flying field. So, hang tight. I am sure someone will let us know when the power of many voices is needed. Get out there and fly. Summer is coming.
