[RCSE] Re: foam electric poly glider

2005-11-18 Thread Tord Eriksson
Kent is looking for a first glider/airplane for a friend.

I don't know if your friend is able to fly anything yet,
but as the very first try, if you live in a flat area, tell
him to buy an electric Zagi!

When he can handle that other planes, like those
recommended by Bill Swingle, comes to mind!

A Swyft would work well then, but is beyond the
biginnner's building abilities, in my book at least!

And though it isn't electric is very easy to launch to
amazing heights, with a simple discus-style throw!

Re: [RCSE] Metal servo frames

2005-11-18 Thread GordySoar

Keeping them the mounts in place is simple!

I drill some 'rivet' holes in the corners of the mounts, 1/18" holes I
think. Above and below the side screw lugs since this is where most of the force
is on the mount. Then one in each bottom corner.

Lay a piece of grocery bag in the mount (saran wrap works too). Then bolt
the servo in so that the screw holes are filled when the servo is in
tight.
The goop the bottom of the mount with 5 min epoxy pretty well, then
drop in place and give a little twist to the whole thing to get the epoxy to
squeeze up around the sides of the servo and into the rivet holes, Don't press
hard because you can oil can the skin,

When its all dry, remove the servo and pull up the wrap. Sometimes its all
comes up, sometimes a little stays, no big deal ,but with this system, the screw
holes are protected from filling, and the resin creates a molded pocket around
the servo, so that the screws just keep it in the mount,,,versus trying to keep
the servo from wiggling.

Quick too.

Wayyy too much sun down here!

They're not really gliders, but they'd be perfect for learning --

Soarstar --

Wingo, but it's out of production.

Easystar --
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/easystar.htm

There's a number of other similar planes available as well.

They're nice because they're slow, stable, and with the motor/prop in
the back, most crashes won't even break the prop.

Buddy box = good, but these planes are resiliant enough that it's not
really needed. But it'll be nice for building up confidence.

An electric Zagi was also suggested. It's somewhat indestructable,
yes, but it's hard to fly, with more than it's fair share of bad
tendencies and it's pretty fast. I'd suggest one of the planes I
listed above instead. If you do get a flying wing, I'd suggest
something like the Combat Wings XE2 rather than one of the Zagis --
the Zagis generally have canopies, and they tend to break quite often
when they're crashed.

That said, I did a lot of learning to fly on a Zagi 400 ...

For a one-stop shop to determine whether or not some piece of email you
receive in your inbox is a hoax, please to check SNOPES.COM. For
instance, they have a section of their site called Inboxer Rebellion
which details their investigations to numerous, numerous hoax-ish email
forwards. Think of it as the Mythbusters for the Internet...

Here is the link to the page for the email we received today:
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/nothing/billgate.asp#billgate

To quote: I would hope that any hoax this badly perpetrated would die a
quick death, but events have proved otherwise.

A great site, and it will have to suffice until we acquire the
technology to squirt people with a water bottle across the Internet.

RE: [RCSE] PLEEEEEEASE REEEEEAD! IT WAS ON GOOD MORNING AMER

2005-11-18 Thread Mark Howard
YES! It's so cold here that I'm slightly chilled on my morning commute
to work. I guess I'm going to have to wear something more substantial
than a tee shirt on the Harley now! Well maybe not.

BTW in the spirit of the original thread -- if someone wants to send me
an Icon or two, I'll send a certified cashier's check for $20K. Take
what you need up to $10K -- but you do need to refund the remainder back
to my account (electronic funds only). Feel free to keep the rest as my
way of saying thanks (sucker) ;-)

Jesus Mark, are you that gullible to believe that? That one has been
around since 1999! :-)

Screw those other Pop-Up laden Advertising Hoax information sites
that the others posted links to.
Here are a couple sites that are very good resources for this kind of
crap.

Is everyone board with this cold weather yet? About 150 more days
until soaring weather.

[RCSE] G3 simulations parameters

2005-11-18 Thread WSnowfall

I have slope soaring on G3 simulator.

Has anyone gotten it thermal? I played with the spawn and got high power launch which shreds the wings every other time. awesome.

However I cant figure out the right combinations to get thermal conditions. Any ideas out there? We all dont live in Calif and need something for the wintermonths.

What you
need is a vacation to somewhere warm!! Maybe Gordy will take you along
next time he goes to Aruba, or somewhere else
a little more temperature/climate friendly. Hes always saying Wish
you were here. Well see if Hes serious and really
means it. He should be able to take at least a couple of fellas along on
each of his trips. OK Gordy, put up or shut up!! If you cant
take some buddies along we dont want no more Wish you were here
BS. Its down right mean!
