[RCSE] Kornberg Leads!!
In the overall scores, Dave Kornberg is at the front of the pack at the end of five rounds for the first day at Spring Fling 2008. And he's leading with a 2-meter ship, no less. I was walking down the landing area and heard Jim Sneed counting down for Dave as he lined up for a landing. Twenty seconds I looked downwind expecting to see Dave's ship on final with flaps deployed. It was nowhere to be seen. That's strange. Where is it? My eyes must be going bad. Where's his plane? Fifteen seconds Over my right shoulder, screaming in from 500 feet comes a yellow demon. In a beautiful descending arch, Dave guides his ship to the ground and nailed his time. Did he get his landing points? Who cares. Ya shudda seen that approach. More fun tomorrow. So far, young Ben Wright from Thousand Oaks California, is the only Junior entry in Spring Fling 2008. Kinda makes him the heir apparent for a First Place trophy in the Junior class this weekend. The final day for entries is tomorrow. If you've just now got your kitchen pass for this 2-day event or suddenly realized that it's only 5 days away, shoot me an e-mail so I can get ya in the flight order. Ben wants some competition. [RCSE] Super SBXC for sale. Northern California
Dennis has an SBXC for sale. See message below. He lives in Bishop. I'm going to Bishop for the weekend and could bring the plane back with me if anyone is interested. Let me know quick. I was going to drive the Honda. If some one wants the plane, I'll take the truck. Dudley Original Message Subject:Super SBXC for sale Date: Wed, 23 Apr 2008 10:43:50 -0700 From: Dennis Brackett [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Dudley Dufort [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello Dudley. I have decided to sell my NIB Super SBXC that I impulsively bought at a Fall Fest from Dean Gradewell about 5 years ago. I am tending toward simpler, smaller and easier to transport models and not giant gliders like the XC. I know from recent posts by you and other SVSS members that there is an active XC contingent in the Sacramento area. This glider is all white on top with black on the bottom flying surfaces. It comes packed in the custom wood box that Dean made to transport the glider. I seem to recall I spent about 1300 for it back then. I'm not sure what a fair price is today. I also have a complete servo set purchased from Dieter at Shredair including small Vozz servos (suitable for tail mounting) to drive rudder and elevator. I also have an Easy Patch 12 system purchased from Dieter to connect up all the electronics. I don't know what I was thinking when I purchased all this stuff. I do know that I will not realistically ever complete this beautiful model. My modeling friends and I fly mostly small electric motor gliders, DHL and electric park floaters as well as slope. The high starts are languishing in my garage as are most of my thermal duration models. Any way, I thought I would drop you a line in case any of your buddies might be interested in any of this stuff. If so they can contact me on email. I plan on posting it on RC groups in a few days. Sounds like your club is doing well. Regards, Dennis Brackett

[RCSE] SVSS April Contest Results
The results of the Sacramento Valley Soaring Society April club contest are posted on the club's web site. What an outstanding contest!! For you poor buggers in other parts of the Country, you don't EVEN want to know what the weather was like out here. 42 entries. That's an amazing level of participation for a monthly club contest.? Thanks to CD Scott Meader and Winchmaster Tom Ball. The Road Kill Krew spoiled us again with a terrific lunch. I mean come on! All ya can eat barbecued hot dogs with all the fixin's, potato salad, chips for two bucks. Great weather, lots of pilots, fantastic food. Is there another club in the Country can top all that? Lots of new stuff up on the web site. *_Contest Scores_* The April contest scores are posted. You'll see 2 tables. One shows contest standing sorted by Class the other table shows scores sorted high to low irrespective of class. Some of us ain't go no class, anyhow! _*YTD Scores*_ Although a bit early in the season to have much meaning, the Year to Date pages are up and running. Again sorted by Class and Overall. A note here. The Year to Date pages include ONLY active SVSS members. If you're not a member, you won't see your name listed here even if you regularly participate in the monthly contest. Feel free to join a club of 110 local soaring enthusiasts and show your support for what we do. *_Averages _*Again, a bit early in the contest season to be meaningful but this page shows average contest score calculated on the total number of contests actually flown. A true average. www.svss.org
[RCSE] SVSS Season Opener
This Saturday, March 8th, the Sacramento Valley Soaring Society launches the 2008 contest season. Northern California pilots, and you bandits out of Nevada, are all invited to attend this season opener. It's also rumored to be Jim Thomas' birthday. Nickels and Dimes is the format. Two five and two ten-minute rounds with sizable overtime penalties. Landings will be scored on a 100-point tape. Our very own Road Kill Krew will be serving all-you-can-eat barbecued hot dogs for a mere pittance. The pilots meeting is at 9:45 AM. Flying starts at 10. Following the contest, the field opens to fun flying, training seminars for new pilots and introductory flights for the general public. It's a whole day of fun. You're invited to join us. www.svss.org RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Irish Thermal Safari
Have ya had enough of Winter yet? Here's something to look forward to and chase away those Winter blues. Thermal Safari 2008 is scheduled for March 15th 16th. Aye, it'll be an Irish Thermal Safari in honor of Saint Patrick's Day. Home base will be Dunnigan, California. I believe that's Irish, isn't it? The Green Team better be there. Yeah, go Green!! This year we'll complete the last two legs of this epic cross country adventure. Beginning where we left off last year, on Saturday we'll launch south east of Williams, California and fly south to Dunnigan. Saturday night we'll indulge in vast amounts of fermented hops and barley, followed by corned beef and cabbage. Then we'll hangar flying into the evening in beautiful downtown Dunnigan. Sunday's flight plan takes us through the rolling hills on the west side of Dunnigan south to the little town of Yolo which is just north of Woodland. Each leg is about 30 miles long. As in the past, the hallmark of this event is a spirit cooperation amongst all teams. Not a contest, each team helps the others with thermal advisories along the way. Bungees and winches allow teams to re-launch along the route. Inasmuch that we usually don't get on the route until around noon, the Sacramento area guys can probably forgo the motel and make a daily commute to and from Dunnigan. Out of towners are advised to make advanced motel reservations. The phone number for the Dunnigan Best Western is (530) 724-3471. GPS (Garmin format) route data files are yours for the asking via e-mail attachment and will soon be posted on the SVSS web site. Once we have a head count I'll see what can be done to secure a private room at a local restaurant for Saturday's banquet. Please let me know as soon as you have your team assembled. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Dudley RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Telario
Does anyone have the phone number for the U.S. distributor of the Telario Talk Vario? As I recall he's somewhere on the East Coast. I ordered the new model over a month and haven't heard a thing since then. Thanks, Dudley RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Re: [RCSE] Spring Fling Map?
David, sorry the club web site is down. We're in the process of changing hosts and we got cut off by the former. Our field is pretty easy to find. It's located in the People's Republic of Davis, CA. We're 3.8 miles south of interstate 80 on Mace Blvd. Tremont Road intersects Mace Blvd. at the entrance to the field. Just look for our sign. Easiest way to get there is to take Interstate 80 through Davis and look for the Mace Blvd. exit then head south. Dudley David Nasatir wrote: I would be grateful for driving directions from the SF East Bay to the SVSS Spring Fling ... or a map. Thanks. [RCSE] Spring Fling
The Spring Fling web pages got dumped from our server about a week ago. I was at THE cross country event in Montague and just found out about it today. The pages are relinked. Montague was fantastic!! If you've signed up for Spring Fling, you'll find you name, class and frequency posted on the SVSS web site (www.svss.org). FAQ's. Yes there is camping permitted at the field. Water is available. Sorry, no hookups. Club winches will be available for your use Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. Lot's of time for fun flying. Yes, we are still accepting entries and will continue to do so until Wednesday June 20. Only nine days left. Sold out frequencies are posted on the pilots page. Don't waste your time submitting an entry on a sold out frequency. Motel 6 (3 miles from the field) still has a few rooms available. Additional accommodations are not too far distant.
