RE: [RCSE] BAD VENDOR REPORT!!!!!!!!!!!! - GOOD VENDOR
Give No BS batteries a try. I have purchased my last batch of packs from them, and have been very impressed. Excellent quality pack construction, they live up to their ratings, and if your buying more than one identical pack, he sells you the second one at 25% off. Take a look at: http://www.hangtimes.com/nobsbatteries.html Completely unsolicited, just a happy customer. Matt -Original Message- From: Todd Larsen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, September 20, 2006 3:35 PM To: soaring@airage.com Subject: [RCSE] BAD VENDOR REPORT I should have listened to a LOT of your guys' advice regarding BATTERIES AMERICA...what a JOKE of a company. Past experiences were nominal like wrong items shipped only to have me ship back to wait and wait to finally get what I originally ordered.dealing with RUDE people on their phone..receiving a couple RX packs that didn't even SNIFF the capacity level AFTER a 24 hour charge with my Sirius Pack former..get the runaround over the phone about NOT PROPERLY CHARGING, etc. Like a Dumb-dumb I keep loyal and try to give them the benefit of the doubt. Recently (the past 2 and 1/2 years) I have had THREE painful surgeries on my FEET that has hampered me to do much flying...or anything at all at that. Prior to my second operation I purchased servo's and batteries for upcoming projects once I am back on my feet. Well a THIRD operation was necessary, unfortunately.and am now getting projects completed. I cycled a 2100 mah pack , recently, which I purchased roughly a year ago and have not touched IT or the other products like Volz servo's and another RX pack from a local hobby store, and it cranked out a wopping 510mah after a 24 hour trickle charge. I then re-cycled it for another 24 hours and it really jumped BIG TIME to 710mah!!! Its a 2100 mah pack The other pack I purchased from a hobby store cycled up close to where it should be and has been working quite well. I asked a friend regarding this matter and He felt one of the cells went bad. I phoned BATTERIES AMERICA to have someone tell me I am a big boy and I NEED to accept REALITY, in that, its been over a year and thats that. I told them I understand , BUT, the pack has NEVER EVER been cycled...EVER. They claimed that I am not being realistic, as I agreed it has been a year BUT I am honest and have NEVER touched the battery or cycled it EVER. I re-coiled and stated back at them then your telling me that NONE of your packs haven't sat on the shelves for a year...TWO...or more?? How am I to know they didn't ship me a 2100 mah RX pack that hasn't been collecting dust on their shelves for a year or two or three He said THAT is immaterial...I asked how? I asked can you tell me right now that ALL your packs are LESS than a year old and all cells used to put the packs together? He bobbled about only to say how its NOT THE SAME POINT , its immaterial to my point and matter and He can't state they ONLY have batteries put together in less than 12 months. What a joke of a company...I have had other problemss and have read some of your guys' NIGHTMARE dealings with these people. I am the one to blame as i should not have done any business with these people after the humiliating conversations and lack of prodcing a product accurate with its description and expected performance. For a measely 20-30 bux they lost a LOYAL and HONEST customer. BTW...the VOLZ servos and the DS368's from Johnny Berlin fired up GREAT and the other battery I purchased that sat around until I recovered from my painful nightmare cycled up and is working very well. I just don't get it. How petty are these people and what TERRIBLE business practices they have. I recently sent in a $30+ servo I bought from JR that stripped out and they replaced it with a NEW ONE...no questions asked. How can a 2100 mah battery that was NEVER cycled by the buyer be so bad after sitting in my drawer awaiting my recovery? I wonder how much people like this TIP a WAITRESS or WAITER after dinnerhow straight-up LAME and CHEAP! I will NEVER buy a THING from them EVER AGAIN. Thanks for the bandwith and sorry you guys had to hear me piss moan and groan! :O) For what its worth there has to be a better place to find GOOD quality batteries at competitive pricesBATTERIES AMERICA has a serious problem with QUALITY of some of their productsI know because THIS is not the first time a complaint has been logged on here reporting this kind of situation. They have 6 and 8 servo wings. I'd like to have them programmed like a normal 4 servo wing in a competition sailplane, with the addition the following: The 8 servo wing has spoilers, inner and outer ailerons and flaps. I'd like to be able to allow the outer ailerons to always work as ailerons. The inner ailerons will work as ailerons part of the time, then I want to be able to flip a switch or go into a flight mode and have the ailerons cambered with the flaps. I want the ailerons to come down ½ way with the flap stick, then start going up. At the ½ way point of the flap stick movement, the spoilers come up. The 6 servo wing doesn't have spoilers, and I want to be able to do the same thing as above. Does anyone have a 9303 or 10X programmed to do this type of mixing? It would save me a tremendous amount of programming time and headache. TIA gv

So, the discussion about the suitability of Corvettes for hauling sailplanes got me to thinking more about my next choice of vehicle. It should have the following attributes: 1) Space to haul 2 unlimited planes and a 2 meter plane + winch, toolbox, 1 Optima battery, turnaround, radio cases + at least 1, preferably 2 passengers 2) Fast and comfortable for those long hauls to away contests 3) Reasonable fuel economy (20-21mpg highway minimum) 4) All wheel drive, since here in Washington the passes are often a mess, roads are often wet, and I like to ski after work in the winter. 5) Decent driving dynamics 6) Enough clearance to travel forest service roads to slope sites 7) NOT a minivan Here's my short list: --Volvo XC70 --Audi A6 Avant --Audi S4 Avant (not sure if long enough) --Dodge (Mercedes) short wheelbase Sprinter (no AWD yet, but likely for 2007 model year) --Subaru whatchamacallit wagon I have an old Land Rover 110 that has been a project vehicle for 2 years and is now nearing completion. Size-wise, it's about perfect, but it is slow, lumbering, and eats high octane petrol like there's no tomorrow (curse the DOT and EPA for not getting us decent diesel fuel sooner; I'd love to have a nice 300 Tdi rather than the V8). Plus, the HVAC system is useless - pretty much windows up or down. In the plus column, however, it will get you to any slope site you like and then some. [RCSE] Evo vs 9303
I'm seriously considering either an Evo or a 9303 - opinions? I like the idea of the variable 'digi' mixers on the evo, and also like the idea of any function to any channel. The synth/scanner function would be awesome, as would the battery management features. On the down side, I have a feeling that the programming it is a royal pain - pun intended. Mixers being global sounds like a bummer, too. The 9303 seems to have terrific programming, but lacks all these other things. Given that the 9's cost about the same - which is ultimately BETTER Matt

RE: [RCSE] Battery food

I have found that fast charging is not an issue. NiMH's handle a 1C charge very nicely, provided you are using a good charger like the Sirius. I charge on the way to the field and if I think that I am going to fly the packs flat, well then I just put them on charge between flights. My TD planes with 6 digitals (JR DS368) consume an average of 5 mAh of capacity for every minute of flight. That is an average load of 300 mA. A 2,100 mAh Nimh will last me for 5 hours with a healthy (25%) reserve. If I'm spending more than 5 hours per day in the air I'm flying a bunch. If I even get close to that, I pop the packs on charge between flights and I am good to go whenever. My 40% aerobatic plane with 10 JR8611 digitals has an average load of 2 amps. Two 2700 NiMH (5.4 amp-hour total) give me just over 2 hours of on time. That's about 8 flights. Way more than I do in an average session. If I want to fly more than that I simply pop the packs on my Sirius Quad charger to top off between flights. Easy stuff. ~~~ Bill Malvey RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
