[RCSE] For Sale: NIB 4m MDM-1 Fox by S2G

2006-02-10 Thread Steve Lange
New In Box, 1/3.5 scale 4m wingspan MDM-1 Fox by Czech company S2G. Kit
comes ARF, with wings and tailplane covered, spoilers in wings
installed. All that is left to do is mount the canopy, install the radio
gear, balance and fly.

Paid just under $700 for it from Northeast Sailplanes, has sat in the
box for over a year and I've not gotten started on it yet.

Asking $500, buyer to pay shipping costs (which will be significant,
this is a BIG box). Prefer to sell to SoCal buyer, if possible, so
shipping cost can be avoided.

Thanks,

Ironically enough, this past weekend my friend had to bring two radios
out to the slope, his new JR9303 and his older Hitec Flash 5, because he
could not reassign the channels on the 9303 to work with one of the
planes he brought. Apparently, to for the elevon mixing to work right
you have to put the servos on channels 1 6 with the 9303, but as he
has a 5 channel Rx that wasn't going to work. I don't know if he just
wasn't familiar enough with the 9303 or what, but I do know that
re-assigning servos to channels and/or controls is a trivial undertaking

But actually, isn't that just about the perfect wing retention device
for this application? Suitably sized, a rare earth magnet setup would
shrug off a minor hit (wing drag or whatever) but would allow you to
pull the wing apart with minor effort once the initial bond was broken.
Plus wing rigging becomes truly plug and play if you have automatic
servo connections.

The rare earth magnets I have exhibit quite impressive and sufficient
magnet force at a distance of 1/2 - 1 to make re-seating after a minor
separation completely automatic. I suspect a disturbance that displaces
the wing further than that will have also had dire consequences for the
entire airframe, and that wing separation will be the least of my worries.

Or so it would seem, anyways :)

I also found that Lee Valley Tool Supply is a good source for smaller

[RCSE] Plug-in wing wiring connectors: good, bad, ugly?

2005-02-28 Thread Steve Lange
I've got a couple of projects coming up with plug-in wings, and I'm
wondering if anyone would care to share their thoughts on using
automatic connectors to make the connection between the servo wiring in
the wing and the servo leads in the fuse. I'm thinking primariliy of the
DB-9 and Multiplex -style multipin connectors here. This would be for
larger (4m) scale and for a slope aerobatic (Voltij) application.

Obviously the downside would be the risk of a bad connection and/or
failed connection, but the upside would be convenience. Assuming the
connectors are mounted solidly enough, is there really that much of a
problem so long as you take reasonable care?

Thanks,

As one of the most prolific posters in the Slope forum, I have to take
at least partial responsibility for the rise of noise in that forum.

However, in my defense, I also contribute a hell of a lot of signal in
the form of videos, photos, flying reports, event summaries, and build

I suggest that those complaining about the signal:noise ratio on
RCGroups get to work generating some signal. Otherwise it's just more noise.

No worries Jay, I did not take personal offense in any way--in fact I
completely agree with your analysis of the slippage on RCGroups. In all
honesty, I'm definitely a big part of the problem with the noise in the
Slope forum. It's one of my personal regrets, and I'm trying to address
the issue (i.e. stay on topic more with my posts). I do truly appreciate
your contribution to my Fauxdent effort--apologies if my message come

My response--which could surely have been worded better--was meant more
as a general commentary on how to maintain quality in our online

accept my apologies if it didn't read that way. I got hit in the head by
a plane today and perhaps I'm not in my right--not to mention my

Anyways, my theory is that these resources will be as good as we make
them. I know you do your part, I'm trying to make my contribution more
substantial, and I thank everyone else who is doing the same. Hopefully
a little self-policing on RCGroups can save the Slope forum, it's a nice
