Re: [RCSE] Taboo DLG launching technique - rudder mods?
Palm forward. The action could be similar to a golf swing where you want to apply a constant acceleration, stopping acceleration just before release. This is very subtle and may be difficult to perceive. Start with about a 90 degree rotation then when comfortable move to the point where you get a full 360 degree rotation. It's important not to force the plane and cause it to yaw before release. This has worked for me. Hopefully it will continue to work this year. :-) SECOND ANSWER I fly the Xterminator Pro from http://www.PolecatAero.com I CAd a thin CF rod from bottom of stab to base of stab at boom. Used kevlar threads to tack it into place. This was specially important since I wanted to fly it for HL Golf. Has held up well, except for that tree and wing LE is another story. ooops :-) Steve At 12:00 AM 5/1/2002 -0700, Brian Joder wrote: Hello all, I just flew my new Taboo for the first time a few days ago and now having several (GREAT) flights I am starting to use the discus throwing method with the wing peg. I have been getting about 50 feet on a toss either way, but I feel like i should be able to put a lot more into it... of course I need to learn the proper technique - any help!!?? SECOND QUESTION: The rudder on these DLG's sticks down (for good structural reasons - understandably) is there any reason I couldn't CA glue a monofilament line from the base of the rudder to say half way up the boom? I think this would help the rudder hop over any ground based obsticals upon those ocassions where you do not catch it. I just feel that the rudder is just waiting to get ripped off of the boom! Re: [RCSE] Fun with epoxy
I have in the past calculated the mix weight on epoxy based on the net weight of the 2 bottles. The specific gravities are quite different. But West comes in different size bottles (not 1:1 mix). And since I was too lazy to walk to my shop and read the instructions I figured there were enough knowledgeable individuals on this exchange that could rattle off the numbers. :-) (Just in case it was not in the directions.) Thanks again, Steve On Tue, 16 Apr 2002 11:54:21 -0400 Rick Van Clief [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yes, you are missing something. Frequently, the two parts of an epoxy resin system are not the same density, and the ratio that is correct by volume is totally incorrect when used by weight. I have also used systems that required ratios so lopsidded that weight was the only choice, such as 100:1 or 200:1. Here it easy to add 1% by weight to the resin, but if you pour this 1% into a container, and then add it to the resin, you will leave a lot on the walls of the container. True indeed. But as the question that started all this specifically addressed West System epoxy, and as the instructions on the West System can clearly state 5 to 1 by weight or volume, one can safely conclude that the densities are the same (or very close to it) and use either method. Re: [RCSE] Draw Programs
Does your question read? Are there any scoring applications that score man on man with the ability to create a matrix either seeded or random (with fewest pilot matches as possible)? I too am in a quest for same. I started to review the algorithm needed to create a random matrix taking into account, same channel cannot occur in same round or -1 + 1 round, and a pilot will fly against the same pilot the fewest times possible. It would be an interesting application that would most likely need to run for some time to test many permutations. Re: [RCSE] AMA Winch vs. FAI winch BASIC DIFF
Brings to mind an experience last fall. At the September Club contest the wind was blowing 15-20 many of the guys chickened out to fly, guess they thought it was too windy. We won't mention names. I put some borrowed ballast in my Escape cause I forgot my Pat McCleave custom ballast. Duh. This is the most wind I have flown the recently new Escape in. So I step up to a Freddette winch, Ford long shaft, mono, and a positive brake. I got kicked to the right on launch, maybe I screwed up something, so I stepped on it to get some line speed to recover straight. No problem except I traveled about 100 feet to the right. As soon as I righted I hit the elevation where the wind is much stronger.I immediately let off the foot pedal because the plane had plenty of speed, tension and was climbing fast. Except the energy just kept building. It seemed like magic, a perpetual machine. The drum was not letting any line out! It looked like one of those 4 man F3J tows. I thought my wings were going to break, I have never seen Escape wings bend like that, they were elliptical. I realized I had to get off the line before my plane broke. A quick blip and I rocketed off like a bat outta hell. It seemed to zoom another 200 feet. Wow, that was an unexpected adrenalin launch. Yes. Mono + locking drum + wind = Wild launches Steve At 06:29 PM 2/14/2002 -0600, James V. Re: [RCSE] Not a Launch Contest
I agree. If you want parity we need more people who fly more often. Clinics and classes are great. I learn a lot by going to contests weather club or national and watch how the winners do it. The majority of soaring contests do work the way they are suppose to. The best pilots wins. We're beating a dead horse trying to reinvent contests.
