It will be noisy, but the interesting parts > will hopefully be towards the end of the download. > My suggestion to try the "sleep" (which seems to have stopped the checksum failing) was because this LMS is running on a NAS and perhaps the NAS OS/hardware has some oddities. e.g. it might return success on a file write before the write has been committed to disk but then when the file open/read happens a few microseconds later it gets the contents from disk without taking the write cache into account. That would be a pretty big bug (so unlikely) but perhaps it would only be seen by 3rd-party software running directly on the NAS ... which would make it less common in the wild. Again, the file was NOT a few bytes short. It was missing two-thirds (20MB) of the file (30MB). I watched the download progress live: LMS restarting on the left screen, the download progress on the right screen. The download did NOT finish. IF I wait for the download (the one BEFORE I click on "Restart now") to finish, the installation will be successful. (I thought it might be a good idea to color this red as this piece of information seems to get lost over and over again.) But yes, that's what I was trying to say in my first post: dolodobendan wrote: > For some reason downloading from sourceforge is painstakingly slow these > days. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Possible bug: Plugin updater
No, you didn't. It's Deutsche Telekom. The reason why I was asking is that only a week or two ago I was investigating Spotty installation failures with very similar symptoms. The downloaded files would always be a few kB short. And IIRC all users having that problem were located in Germany, most of them using Unitymedia. Ok, there is the highest density of Spotty users in Germany, which increases the chance to run into issues. But anyway. About the theory around "sleep": are you saying that the plugin installer tries to validate the download before the data has fully been written to disc, thus failing the check (again, probably a few bytes short)? I think it would still be good to test the download using network.asynchttp=DEBUG. It will be noisy, but the interesting parts will hopefully be towards the end of the download. -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

You didnt say you were on Alpine but yes minidlna is probably better than LMS as a dlna server for Films. LMS dlna was something that appeared when LMS was truly a Logitech product but after it went open source I dont think its been touched at all. Youd have to ask Michael Herger to be sure. Dlna has no true standard and thats its biggest problem. Dlna things can be dlna compliant, dlna certified or dlna supported. Its a nightmare. Plex includes a dlna server but when used with a Plex client (which is available for Roku) it uses its own protocol that works. 30332 I waited for the download to finish and then clicked on "Restart now". The installation was successful. I think that if "Restart now" is clicked, the file is checked. If it's done downloading and there were no real CRC errors, it will pass the test and then be installed. If not (because maybe I was trigger happy), the checksum test fails and a new download is triggered. This download and its installation will fail, too, if the download is not completed before LMS shuts down whatever process is downloading the plugin. +---+ |Filename: LMS_plugin_installer.png | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=30332| +---+ QLMS 8.0.0@2.20 x64 (digimaster) with perl 5.30.1 / QNAP 469L QTS 4.3.4 dolodobendan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67663 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112241 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

No - you would have to edit the file Slim/Utils/PluginDownloader.pm and put a sleep 1; just before that line in the file. However, if you are not used to editing Perl files on your NAS then it is best not to attempt it and wait instead for further analysis/testing from bpa or mherger since that would probably result in an official software change that you could install by more regular routes (assuming something is found). Thanks for continuing to improve LMS. I am trying to download LMS 8.0 to my Synology DS-713+ which currently runs LMS 7.9.1 which was installed from the Synology package center. I cannot figure out which file to download. The Synology NAS requires packages with the .pkg file extensions? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Possible bug: Plugin updater
Maybe the NAS OS handles it properly when the quick read happens over the network (which in any case would be slower and so less likely to happen before the real write completes). But here LMS is running on the NAS. Quick hack to test that as a theory ... put a sleep 1s call before the file open call ... Code: open my $fh, '<', $file or $log->error("Failed to open $file"); Paul Webster http://dabdig.blogspot.com author of \"now playing\" plugins covering radio france (fip etc), kcrw, supla finland, abc australia, cbc/radio-canada and rte ireland Paul Webster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=105 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112241 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Note - this is running on a NAS ... so is it also possible that the NAS is doing something wrong with with file write/read and a quick open/read of a file that has (in theory just been written) is not being handled properly by the NAS OS because the write has not really completed yet but it is opening the file on disk without taking the write cache into account? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Advanced search handling of genres in exclusion list
Thinking about this some more, it seems to me that the crucial issue here is how Advanced Search handles the "not in text search" option. What I expected and hoped was that the search would result in a list of all tracks that do not contain the listed genre tag(s). I also considered the possibility that, in the case of multiple genre tags, only the first genre tag is checked. Another possibility is that any file that includes a tag that is NOT in the text search field will be included in the results. I've done some testing and it appears that, unfortunately, the last possibility is correct. In other words, the "not in text search" option seems not to work with multiple genre tags. So far, I have only tried this with a double backslash ( \\ ) used as the separator. The results might be different when using a semicolon ( ; ). Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Possible bug: Plugin updater
I'm not sure how uninterruptible the process is ... but ... the count of outstanding downloads is decremented before the checksum is calculated and compared ... and I think the restart prompt arrives between 0 and 2 seconds after the count reaches 0 (might be minimum 2 rather than 0 ... not sure). So - a big plugin that takes a long time to do the checksum comparison along with a trigger happy user who clicks "restart" as soon as it appears could be a way to shutdown LMS before it has finished doing its processing so it would not know to complete the install on restart. Perhaps the decrement of the "$downloading" variable should come later ... and in particular after Code: $prefs->set($name, 'needs-install'); (would need to be a bit further down to cover the if/then/else - in sub _downloadDone in Slim/Utils/PluginDownloader.pm Seems very narrow case though Paul Webster http://dabdig.blogspot.com author of \"now playing\" plugins covering radio france (fip etc), kcrw, supla finland, abc australia, cbc/radio-canada and rte ireland Paul Webster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=105 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112241 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Un-needed plugins
Personally I've removed anything that I know I didn't use, and also anything that I wasn't sure if I used. You can easily put them back again if you find you need them. tw99's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=51684 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112247 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Un-needed plugins
Currently have LMS 7.9.2 running on an RPi3/pCP6 platform. I've had to do a fresh install to a new SD card and try to remember all the config changes (which I'll document this time :o ). But when I was looking at the plug-ins page it did prompt the question are there any of the default active plug-ins I can usefully remove? Not all of the descriptions are helpful. I've had a search but can't find anything useful. As its a limited resource dedicated LMS instance I'm inclined to think its helpful to strip out any unneeded plugins leaving more for the plugins I do want. I'm guessing anything to do with the old Squeezebox hardware can go as all my players are RPi based. Services like Amazon, Deezer, etc that I don't use can go? Any dependencies I need to watch out for? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Two wifi's, players can see LMS only on one
Here is how I do something similar ... I have only one DHCP server inside the regular home LAN - in your case that could be the cable modem/router box. Other access points are put into bridge mode and get their own IP address via DHCP (although you could make them static in a range outside that being used by the cable modem but in the same subnet). Then when a device connects to the second access point (wired or wireless) they get their IP address via DHCP from the cable modem. Then everything is on the same 10.x.y.z subnet and, hopefully, your problem would disappear. In reality I have another router (X) between the LAN and the ISP router and have nothing plugged/wifi into the ISP router apart from router X or sometimes a house guest. That way I can change ISP without relying on features that might not be in the ISP router. I haven't had time (!) so far to look again but there are a number of possibilities, I tend to believe the download code is OK because it is used in other places of LMS. I haven't looked at what triggers the presentation of the "Restart" box and that would be the first place I'll look because a restart at the wrong time is the issue, bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=112241 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Two wifi's, players can see LMS only on one
Several years ago my Xfinity cable modem was replaced with one that has wifi. I kept my original wifi, as they broaden my access area. I can connect my players to the original wifi and can play music from my LMS, but cannot access the server from the cable modem wifi. Here is my setup: My cable modem with wifi is on the second floor in my den, with a router attached directly. My pc, Mac and printer are attached to this. I have an ethernet cable run from the router to the basement, attached to an ethernet switch. The NAS running LMS is attached to this switch, as well as my original wifi access point. I'm replacing a squeezebox that recently died with a piCoreplayer device. While setting up the device, I attached it directly to the router. I could see the LMS and play music. Then I set a connection to the cable modem wifi, detached it from the router and rebooted. It was unable to connect to the LMS while connected only to wifi. My connected devices on the cable modem have IP's in the range of 10.0.0.x, while those on the router and switch are 192.168.0.x. I have tried port forwarding 9000 and 3483 on the router to 10.0.0.x, but does not appear to help. I would welcome any suggestions and can provide additional detail if needed. But it didn't: 4s for 30 MB, that's around 60 Mbit/s for you. It should have been less than a second. (Slow ISP much? :p ) bpa wrote: > I used to see it a lot with a slower ISP connection but again but I felt > it wasn't serious enough and easily reproduced to warrant further > investigation. As of now, I see two (possibly connected) bugs here: - LMS restarts without finishing the download and then finds itself puzzled that the checksums don't match - LMS further enhances this problem by discarding perfectly fine FINISHED downloads when clicking on "Plugins have been updated - Restart Required" (2nd download is triggered) and then discarding whatever progress LMS made with that when clicking on "Changes will take place at the next application restart. Please click here to restart the server now." (3rd download is triggered) That last one is the only download LMS actually uses! You're right of course, it does happen only with higher download times (or for people with insane reflexes). That it's downloaded three times however, that should not happen. bpa wrote: > I seem to have less time to do things.
