Using POP3 or IMAP?  Yahoo said some time ago that they would be
discontinuing POP3 at some point in the future.

I am having no such problems with my IMAP Yahoo email as of two

Thank for your response.

I had been set up using POP3.  Where do I find instructions for
changing the account to IMAP?

Unfortunately you cannot change an account from POP3 to IMAP, you
will need to set up a new account.

Dave

Thanks for your note.

I'm now thoroughly confused.

1) Can I use the same name as on the existing POP account?
2) If so, will all of the present e-mail subscriptions automatically
transfer?

3) Do you have any suggestions on how to proceed (or what NOT to do)?

This is for Thunderbird but it's close enough to SeaMonkey to get you
started.

The "Transfer your local messages to the server" section can take some
time if you have a LOT of messages to move.

Simply copy the saved message and bookmark files to their respective

Zip up the entire AppData\Roaming\mozilla folder on your Windows 7 pc
when SeaMonkey is closed. Unpack it on you new Windows 10 PC and just
install the 2.53.2 Windows x64 version. Should pick up your old profile
and upgrade it. Make sure you remove a master password if one exists
before you zip it up.

Windows 10 makes it harder to set an external Browser as default but it
is still possible in the new Stettings dialogs.

FRG

FRG - First, this all sounds too easy. Second, I recognize that you
know vastly more about SeaMonkey 2.52.2 mail than my 82 year old brain
will ever comprehend. I do, however, have some questions:

1) Must I Zip and UnZip the Mozilla folder to move it? As my Win7-Home
files are backed up to an external hard drive, why couldn't I just use
the Windows 'Copy' command and move them from the external hard drive
that way?

2) Do I understand you correctly that you are telling me to move the
Win7 files to their Win10 destination and then install X64 SM 2.52.2?

3) It has always been my custom to install SM to a 'd\' partition on the
same physical hard drive as the Windows OS because an OS failure is
easier to deal with if there are no (often large) e-mail files to worry
about preserving in the same partition as the OS. A friend recently
told me that SM 2.52.2 no longer permits such a SM installation; i.e. in
a different hard drive partition than the 'c:\' used by the Windows OS.
Is that information correct and, if so, is there any way to install X64
SM 2.52 in a partition of one's choice?

Thank you for your most helpful explanation and guidance.

Moving SM Mail Files

2020-04-08 Thread Henrik37 via support-seamonkey
On a 64 bit Dell Optiplex running 64 bit Win 7 Pro, I presently have SM
2.49.4 installed. I am not certain whether existing SM mail is 32 bit
or 64 bit as it has been in use for several years.

I want to change the company providing the mail service and change the
name of the mailbox. In the process, however, I want to keep all of the
existing inbox and sent mail files.

Can I simply copy the old inbox and sent mail files and paste these two
files into a new mail account I establish with the new mail provider?

Please put any comments in simple language as I am 82 and although I go
back to the MS-DOS days, I have forgotten more PC-related things than I
like to admit. Thanks, in advance, for any and all advice, comments, or

Probably nothing related to the site or the platform that you're running
on.

I just went there, and had no problems, after I enabled scripting.

By this description, there's probably something in your profile that's
getting in the way.  For this, the first thing to do is try Safe Mode
(Help -> Restart with Add-ons disabled...) Besides temporarily disabling
any extensions, this will also put many (but not all) your preferences
settings back to defaults.

In my own experience, I find that even a one-time restart in safe mode
can be enough to clear this kind of problem. My suspicion is that the
problem is in one of the supporting SQLite databases, and that a Safe
Mode restart can be enough to clear problems there.

If you find that problems go away in Safe Mode, and then return on a
normal restart:

1) Check any extensions that you have running, and disable them. If
there's a particular extension that you really want, then it could be
that there's corruption in the extension, and it's worth deleting the
extension and reinstalling.

2) If you don't have extensions causing problems, one of the options in
Safe Mode is a Reset which permanently commits changes that happen in
Safe Mode.

If you just want to check whether there's a problem with Seamonkey
(although it's doubtful), you could also try using the Profile Manager
to create a second profile. If you get what you want on the alternate
profile, then that's hard confirmation that the problem is in your
primary profile.

Back in March, I posed the issue above. I restarted Win 7 in 'Safe'
mode as suggested and tried the other fixes suggested. Nothing solved
the problem so I just gave up on 'ABC World News' (their loss since it
means I don't see their commercials!).

Tonight I decided to explore the matter again and I get an ABC-generated
error message indicating that SM does not support something called
'HLS'. I also tried to get at the ABC News program via IE 11 and
received the same error message - IE 11 does not support 'HLS'

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? Should I install

The fix I found was to deinstall Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) 2017

My suspicion - untested at this point - is that KIS 2017 contained a
preliminary fix required by the Intel/Microsoft Spectre/Meltdown patch
and thus caused some sort of conflict with an unpatched (i.e. after
December 1) Win 7 system.

Maybe your KIS 2017 install didn't work quite right and/or KIS 2016

you should get a 'Page Info' popup with the Security tab highlighted
click on View Certificate
click on Details

I'm wondering if KIS 2016 is intercepting all of your web traffic or not..

shouldn't continue.

This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that
SeaMonkey only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible
to add an exception for this certificate.

Technical Details

www.forbes.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.
The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates.
An additional root certificate may need to be imported.

No problem here with 2.49.1.

I found the two files you mentioned plus 'sessionstore-1.json' through
'sessionstore-.json'.

Only the file listed as 'sessionstore.json' had a value - about 800, and
all of the numbered 'sessionstore-x.json' files (x = 1 through )
listed a value of '0'. Out of desperation, I moved 'sessionstore.json'
and all of the numbered 'sessionstore-x.json' to the recycle bin.

Restarting SeaMonkey, the problem had disappeared and I don't find
anything else has gone wrong. Could this mean that v.2.46 has a
limit on the number of sessionstore files that can be stored?

My inclination is to dump all of the files in the Recycle Bin. Yes?
No? Do something else?

You can toss them. You'll find SM has created a new sessionstore.json
file based on your current browser tabs.

Thanks for your advice. I take it, then, that there does, in fact,
exist a file limit.

If there is a user interface for changing a preference, I always
recommend that in place of manually changing preference variables. This
is because the user interface might involve more preference variables
than merely the obvious one. In this case, there is indeed a user
interface.

1. On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Edit > Preferences].

2. On the left side of the Preferences window, select Browser.

3. On the Broser pane, select one of the radio buttons under "When
restoring sessions and windows". If the middle radio button is select,
select the number of tabs.

4. Select the OK button.

Rebuilding SM Mail after a PC Failure

2016-12-09 Thread Henrik37
I am in the process of rebuilding my SM mail system on a new PC after an
unexpected major failure of an old PC. The failed PC ran SM 2.39. The
new PC has SM 2.40 installed but is not yet in use.

Using the command prompt, I have managed to copy the 'inbox' and 'sent'
files for all six of my e-mail accounts to a memory stick. I know where
to paste these recovered files into my new SM 2.40 installation's mail
files.

I would like to recover my 'collected addresses' (which I think is the
address book) but I don't know what that file(s) named. Looking at the
new SM 2.4 installation file listing, it would appear that the address
files are shared by all of the e-mail accounts. If I have that right,
what is the name of the address file(s) and can I simply paste in the
recovered file(s) into my new SM 2.40 installation?

Is there any other file I might try to recover that I should look for
that could be pasted in my new installation?

My approach of pasting old files may seem awfully old-fashioned to
younger folks on this list, but I go back to the MS-DOS days and know
how to do it and it works reasonably well as long as I am replacing
identically named files.

Thank you, in advamce for comments, advice, and guidance on the
questions I have raised

If that's your theory, close SM, delete the msf file in question, and

If that doesn't work, that wasn't the problem.

SeaMonkey actually has a built-in way of doing that. Right-click on the
folder name and select Properties. There should be a button called
[Repair Folder]. Clicking on it will rebuild the MSF file.

Many thanks for that advice.

Automatic Spell Check with v.2.39

2016-09-05 Thread Henrik37
I recently installed SM v.2.39 on a new, larger, hard drive. My memory
is that there is way to enable forced spell checking with newly composed
e-mail messages prior to sending them.

The problem is that I can't find out whether this feature exists in
v.2.39 and how to enable it or whether my memory is simply faulty.

Message sort problem with v.2.39 and Yahoo e-mail

2016-08-31 Thread Henrik37
For reasons that I can not fathom, SM 2.39 e-mail is no longer sorting
incoming Yahoo e-mail messages in the requested 'order received' manner.
It is putting new e-mails in all sort of strange order. Other e-mail
accounts on the same PC, work fine, i.e., in the requested 'order
received' mode.

Is there some way to force SM to do what I want, i.e., list incoming
e-mails in 'order received' mode?

Why this problem involves a single e-mail account out of four has be
utterly baffled.

Thanks, in advance, for any and all advice, comments, and/or enlightenment.

For Verizon <https://www.verizon.com/support/consumer/email/settings>

For Yahoo <https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN3217.html?impressions=true>

Thunderbird would add them automatically, but you have to add them
manually in SeaMonkey. Instructions for Thunderbird should work.

I have been unable to make the Yahoo instructions work. I think, but am
not certain, that it has to do with the security connection required
between SM 2.39 and Yahoo mail.

Also and maybe related; I am also finding that even via Web mail SM
repeatedly freezes or slows to a crawl when trying to look at Yahoo
e-mail messages that contain certain advertisements.

Has anyone else had these kinds of problems and how did you get the
connection to work?

Henrik, I've had a basic Yahoo Mail account for some time (basically to
handle Family Geneology stuff, photo's etc, that are too big for my
normal, ISP provided, e-mail account.

I inquired about setting up a mail account in my SeaMonkey to pull the
stuff from Yahoo, but never got it to work, because, it seems, there are
Yahoo e-mail accounts and there are Yahoo e-mail accounts! If you've got
a basic account, it seems they cannot be set up to forward their
contents to a real POP e-mail account or have it pulled into an
SeaMonkey email account.

I hope you can prove me wrong, though!!

Thanks for your comment. I used to have Yahoo mail working to download
to SM until a bit over a month ago when I had a hard drive failure. I
am simply trying to re-establish what I know used to work. The only
difference now is that I am using SM 2.39 instead of an earlier version
whose number I don't recall. As I am also having trouble
re-establishing my Network Solutions and Verizon e-mail accounts, I
wonder if this could be a SM problem? Either that or I have not set up
SM 2.39 properly in some way that i don't understand.

Comments from anybody are welcome.

Daniel -- See David's suggestion to me and my response (below). It got
my system working. Maybe that solution will work for you.

I am using Yahoo as follows:

Server Type: POP Mail Server
Server Name: pop.mail.yahoo.com Port 995
User Name: @yahoo.com

Connection Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication Method: Normal password

This has worked fine for me for quite a while.

Dave

Thank you. It turns out that one MUST include the '@yahoo.com' as part
of one's user name or things don't work. Now my problem is that every
e-mail that was sitting on the Yahoo server is being downloaded - some
10,000 of them! Oh well, that is an improvement on not being to
download anything. Thanks again.

Yes. :)

Similarly, I would like to copy the 'bookmarks' and 'saved addresses'
files from the XP computer and move them to the Win_7 PC. Having never
tried this in the past, what are the name(s) of the files I need to copy
from the XP computer's hard drive and how do I arrange things so I can
merge these files with the existing 'bookmarks' and 'saved addresses'
files already existing on the Win_7 machine.

Bookmarks are in places.sqlite.
Personal address book is in abook.mab.

For more info, visit <http://seamonkey.ilias.ca/profilefaq/#transferring>.

Thank you for so quick a response. That is a terrific tutorial.

1) How do I differentiate between the existing 'places.sqlite' and
'abook.mab' files as I want to merge the existing files on the Win_7
with the ones I have copied from my XP machine? Rename the files from
the XP computer 'places1.sqlite' and 'abook1.mab'?

2) Assuming the above approach will work, how do I then go about merging
the two different bookmarks and personal address book files?

Thank you for your assistance in this regard.

Finally, you have been supporting Seamonkey (and its predecessors) for a
very long time. I can only thank you profusely for all the hours you
devote and have devoted to this effort. BRAVO!

I would note that the XP machine's C:\ hard drive partition was damaged
in a recent power surge incident and while I have tested that I am able
to successfully copy files from the PC's D:\, E:\, and F:\ partitions, I
am not at all certain that the XP machine can be restored to a fully
operable working condition.
