How do I kill-file a thread, in my SeaMonkey, so I never see it again
. until I completely reload that newsgroup?? CTRL-K, maybe or Shift-k??

TIA.

When I hit K I never see that thread or any remnants of it again.
Gone forever unless I manually edit the RC file.
Walt may right on it being a bug.

I have two spam-mail at 6h30 and 23h30 each day.
All mails are totally different . the only partially fixed part
is that line:

"Received: from news1.afrophree.com (news1.afrophree.com [81.29.1.46]

The names of the news servers are always didderrent and thei domain
is NOT part of the ip adress.

The ip-adresses are always different, but still of the same domain
which is: iahoster.com

How can I create a filter to catch the range ip-adresses -->
% Information related to '81.29.0.0 - 81.29.15.255' ?

If you are on windows you can add iahoster.com to your hosts file and
redirect the domain name to 127.

I may well be wrong on this, but I don't think adding something to the
hosts file (which exists for Linux and probably MacOS as well) is going
to fix anything.  The effect of that is to stop *you* speaking to *them*
by name, why should that affect incoming mails?

I don't know if that will work with emails or not. Have never tried it
so may be totally wrong. For web stuff it sends anything from the
offending domain to 127.0.0.1, effectively null space, so I never see it.

How much ram do you have?
64 bit o/s?
This machine has 16GB ram and my web cache is set to Zero.
Don't need a cache with enough ram.
Also, try turning hardware acceleration on or off.

The specs on your comp are quite good. You really don't need much of a

Try the hardware acceleration suggestion above.
Turn it off if on and on if off and see.

Is your Flashpoint on the same comp or hdd as your SM?
It is my understanding that SM has disabled NPAPI in your SM version.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPAPI
Personally, I will stick with SM 2.49.3 until it no longer works
with any websites.

Flash is dead as of yesterday.

<https://tech.slashdot.org/story/21/01/12/2133218/adobe-flash-is-officially-dead-after-25-years-with-content-blocked-starting-today>

True but not relevant to OP's problem which concerns SM in the context
of a game archive package that provides appropriate (and not blocked)
players for the formats, such as Flash, that its archived games need.

The first 2 console errors shown are not exceptional.

SM 2.53.5.1 is supposed to support Flash (and no other plugins) via
NPAPI. Perhaps the detection of older Flash versions isn't working
properly?

The Flashpoint site says that Mac OS support is highly experimental.
You might do better to ask there.

/df

Old or latest. Flash is dead.

Doesn't matter what version of browser still supports it. The
manufacturer of Flash doesn't after yesterday and will block content
from using it.

"Since Adobe will no longer be supporting Flash Player after December
31, 2020 and Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player
beginning January 12, 2021, Adobe strongly recommends all users
immediately uninstall Flash Player to help protect their systems."

Sorta like Twitter blocking certain accounts from being used.

My Flash 18 still works great. I have no plans to get rid of it.
In order for Adobe to block it they would need access to my machine(s)
which they will not get.

Javascript (as opposed to Java) is natively supported by pretty much
all browsers, if that site thinks you don't have it then I see two
possibilities:

- You have turned it off (Preferences -> Advanced -> Scripts & Plugins)
- You have something like Noscript running and that has turned it
off for you, for this site.

Or the site tests for some JS primitive that SM doesn't implement.

Or the site doesn't recognise SM and proceeds on the assumption that
it doesn't implement the JS level that it thinks is needed.

G. Ross, what's the weather web site? Do you have its exact URL you saw
this issue?

Turn off JS on Fox News.
I never see any ads or videos or any sort of pop ups.

Details of how to do so?

My solution is similar to David Ross'.
A disable js extension.
uBlock Origin ad blocker.
BluHell firewall.
and a button to turn off html5.
Many different ones are directly available for SM or can be converted
from FF to SM. Find ones that work well and you that you like.

I received the following rather problematic email from Yahoo this morning:

Hey David,

We love that you love using your Yahoo Mail. And we want to make sure you
always have the best experience. That’s why we’re reaching out today.

We’ve noticed that you’re using non-Yahoo applications (such as third-party
email, calendar, or contact applications) that may use a less secure sign-in
method. To protect you and your data, Yahoo will no longer support the current
sign-in functionality in your application starting on October 20, 2020. This
means that you will need to take one of the steps below to continue using Yahoo
Mail without interruption.

But don’t worry, you have options. Find an option that works best for you below:

Option 1: We recommend that you access your email using our free Yahoo Mail app
for iOS and Android or simply go to mail.yahoo.com to access Yahoo Mail on the
web.

Option 2: Keep your current, non-Yahoo app, BUT follow a few steps to get it to
sync with our secure sign-in method. The steps vary across different email
applications, but in most cases, you will have to remove your Yahoo account
from the app and then add it back again to update the sign-in security. Use the
links below to follow the specific steps for your current application:

 iOS Mail
 Gmail
 Samsung Mail
 Others

Option 3: You can generate a one-time, unique password that will allow you to
sign in to your account using your non-Yahoo email application. Once created,
this password will continue to allow your app to securely sync your Yahoo email
unless you sign out (or are signed out) from your app. You can find
instructions on how to do this here.

If you want more details on these changes, please visit our help page. If
you’ve already taken action, we’d like to think you haven’t read this far, but
if you have . . . we sure appreciate the diligence!

Thanks for rocking that Yahoo Mail address!

Yours in your inbox,
The Yahoo Team

I followed that others link and found some instructions for Thunderbird
that involve deleting my current account and creating a new one. I have
no intention of deleting my current account, I simply want to change my
server settings to conform with their new "more secure" requirements.

Has anyone else received this notice and made the required changes so
that you can tell me how to fix this mess they are insisting on?

Quoting from that link,
The first step you should take is to reinstall FireFox. This is very
easy to do but does hold the risk of losing some of your personal data.

I could not see anything on that page to indicate when it was written,
but the claim that reinstalling Firefox could cause damage to the
profile is . . unusual.  By that logic, installing a new version can
also damage the profile.
Ok, that sort of applies when moving from 2.49.x to 2.53.x but that only
affects the ability to fall back.
(The page source says "This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin

Looks good to me. It is what works in my Thunderbird's.

Did you get a password prompt, entered the password and still
can't send an email?

Yes, I did get the password prompt request and I did enter my
password---same results.

Try port 587 which is STARTTLS, I saw that in a site telling
people

how to use Thunderbird with AOL.  If that does not work then you
fall back to 465 = SSL/TLS, which is what the other similar sites
were suggesting.
I have several accounts and the split is 50% : 50% between the two
variations.

I changed the port number to 587 as you suggested...the default
remained 465.  I attempted so send myself a message with the same
results.  I then (leaving the change in place) decided to change
the

Server Name from smpt.verizon.net to smpt.aol.com.  I tried to send
an email test message to myself.  It appeared that the message was
sent...the message never showed up in my inbox.  I decided at this
point to restore things back to the original setting pending
conformation of my actions.

It looks like I got things backward, if you set "Connection
security"

to STARTTLS then the Port gets set to 587 automatically.  Setting it
back to SSL/TLS reverts to 465.  That may be irrelevant if you
managed to send a message successfully, do you have another victim
you could send a message to and then ask if they got it?
Assuming you have managed to work out if you can send messages or
not, you can start looking at the input side of things.  I sent
you a

long response to your mozilla.general post a day or so, if you can't
retrieve messages you could have a look at that.
I have several email addresses so it is a lot easier to check
what is

not working.

I made the change you suggested (i.e. Changing the "Connection
security" to STARTTLS and the port numbers changed to 587" as you
said

they would.
I tried to send another test message and nothing happened.  I then
changed the Server Name from smpt.verizon.net to smpt.aol.com. and
tried to send a message...and nothing at all happened.  I then
changed

every thing back to the original settings.

Yes, I did receive your earlier message and will be taking a look at
it next.

I continue to be very appreciative of your help...thank you very
much.

Frog

I have come to a conclusion...I believe Verizon has lost my
password.  I

am noticing that I am constantly being asked for my password when
sending a message via verizon.net.  Even when I give them my password,
the message fails to send.  Now I've got a new challenge...how do I
get

Verizon on board with my password.  Any help would be appreciated.
Frog

Lost?  Your email account might have been hacked like mine was a month
ago.

See if you can logon to AOL web mail with it.  If not, follow their
guidelines for a lost or stolen password to reclaim your account.

Dave

My AOL account and my Verizon account have have always had two different
passwords. My Verizon mail is the one I can't access to send a message.
The AOL account will now let me send email messages.

Frog

I don't know about you, but I have had my Verizon email address for a
long time.  When they passed things over to AOL in 2017 I had to login
to AOL in the browser with my Verizon email address and password.  I
suggest you try logging onto AOL in the browser with your full Verizon
email address as the username with your expected password.  If it works,
you know you have some sort of a configuration problem.  If it does not
work you might have been hacked.

Dave

Thanks for your help message.
I am about pull my hair out at this point.  I am not what you would call
a tech person.  I was using my computer without any difficulties when
all of a sudden I could not send a message via my old original Verizon

You are, of course, correct. It was cookies, not preferences. A couple

It depends on what you want to back up.
64 gb won't be nearly big enough for the entire computer but may
be big enough for data backup.
It you want to back up the entire comp then get an external HDD/SSD as
big or bigger than your comp's storage device.

I use Macrium Reflect and make clones instead of backups.
That way if a HDD, SSD, NVMe.2 drive goes back I can swap the drives
and be back up and running in 5 minutes... remember that some of us also
use computers for work.

Do NOT buy software off of EBay unless you are absolutely positive the

Start Menu / Safe Mode
From the release notes:

Poorly designed or incompatible extensions can cause problems with
SeaMonkey, including make it crash, slow down page display, etc. If you
encounter strange problems relating to parts of SeaMonkey no longer
working, the browser not starting, windows with strange or distorted
appearance, degraded performance, etc, you may be suffering from
Extension or Theme trouble. Restart SeaMonkey in Safe Mode. On Windows,
start using the "Safe Mode" shortcut created in your Start menu or by
running seamonkey.exe -safe-mode. On Linux, start with
/path-to-seamonkey/seamonkey -safe-mode or first change to the SeaMonkey
installation directory and start with ./seamonkey -safe-mode, and on Mac
OS X, run:

cd /Applications/SeaMonkey.app/Contents/MacOS/
./seamonkey-bin -safe-mode
When started in Safe Mode all extensions are disabled and the Default
theme is used. Disable the Extension/Theme that is causing trouble and
then start normally.

Try HTTPS instead of HTTP.

If you click the link, it does show HTTPS.

The address in my address book has https, and that is the way it was
entered. The access denied message came back showing http...thus, I
tried entering it manually with the s added and the result was another
access denied message as http. It seemed very strange to me that only
the foxnews web page was the only web page that was giving me this
message. I then used my WEBOOT software against the whole system and no
problems were identified. Once I allowed CC Cleaner to remove the
cookies and Internet Cache from my systen I entered the foxnews address
as I do normally and everything worked as usual. I do not know why
firefox/foxnews was not affected by anything from the start and only
seamonkey was affected (the same computer/operating system was used
throughout this access denied situation). Presently, both firefox and
seamonkey are working normally, and that makes me very happy.

I hope this information is helpful to those who responded to my help

A shortcut to a Windows folder or file is NOT the same as an Internet
shortcut.

A shortcut to a Windows folder or file is merely a pointer to the actual

An Internet shortcut is a text file containing the URI of a Web page I

IMO, the file association got messed up probably by some other program.
I would download and install FileTypesMan and run it.
It is a handy little tool that I use every now and then.
https://filetypesman.en.softonic.com/
Set it to be blank on User Choice
OR
change .url to open with seamonkey.exe.
One of the two should work.
SeaMonkey shortcuts are .url.
IE shortcuts are .website.
I just tried changing my SM shortcuts to open with Notepad
and get the text screen that you are getting.

Create a Restore Point or export / back up the registry first of course.
You can edit the registry directly but FileTypesMan is easier.

Yes it is.

Most likely it's a registry issue.
Can you create (drag and drop) any desktop shortcuts that work,
like from a Word Doc, Excel, graphics, etc?
Do IE11 drag & drop desktop shortcuts open with IE11?

Do the url shortcuts look correct with no added spaces, etc?

I can make shortcuts with other applications. It looks like it's
only SM
that has the problem. URL shortcuts look normal, except for SM. When I
drag a site from SM, under Properties the file is called a "URL File",
at 0 bytes. The other normal shortcuts I have are called "Shortcut
Files

Possible file or registry corruption.
Back up the system first, clone, image, etc.

If it were me I would run a surface scan of the hdd if a spinner.
Next I would run SFC /SCANNOW and then try SM.
If no good then I would reinstall SM over itself.
If still no good then I would save all SM personal data and

Why not after copy of the SM profile when SM is not running then an

news page. It's interesting that when I use fire fox on the same server
it opens normally. SeaMonkey was working fine last night but not
working this morning. Any ideas to help me get SeaMonkey working again
would be appreciated.

Try HTTPS instead of HTTP.

I tried everything and ended up using CC Cleaner to remove all Cookies
and Internet Cache from my computer. Next, I tried SeaMonkey to connect
to open foxnews and it worked. I then tried firefox to open this web
site and it also opened. I learned from this experience that I need to
get the junk out of my computer more often in the future.

Thanks for all of the responses to my call for help.
Frog

Your solution is good to know.

No solution found so far. I was able to take a shortcut that I had made

Is SM set as your default browser?

Try restarting SM with add ons disabled and see.

I've looked through the SM Preferences screens. I've looked through the
SM Mail & News Group Account Settings screen. I've looked at
'about:config" screen ... to ensure I had the 'Display User Agent' pref
set, which I had.

But still cannot find where I should de-select 'Full Headers' so that
I'll just have 'Normal Headers' with the additional User Agent line
displaying.

So where do I switch from full headers to normal headers, Please??

To add to Walt's post, my OLD SM does not have 'Display User Agent' in
about:config. It has:
mailnews.headers.showUserAgent
Your new SM is likely different but it might be something to check.

I often wish there were a simple way to just "print the browser window
as it looks now".

I often wind up taking an image capture of the browser window and
printing that, often getting me much closer to what I want than the
"print" function.

Bob

Pressing the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard doesn't accomplish
that?

Print screen in Windows takes a raster image of the screen that must be
dumped into a viewer like Irfan, etc, and then printed from there.

Same here. But there is an explanation for this behavior:

JavaScript error: https://www.corelogic.com/js/main.js?v=4, line 471:

If I change the User Agent in "Prefbar" to - IE 9.0 win 7 - the Google

Is there some way to make this User Agent PERMANENT in SeaMonkey ?
i.e. - to make it always use IE 9.0 win 7 as the User Agent ?

DoctorBill

Research how to set UA in prefs using about:config.
general.useragent.override
A problem with permanent is that other websites may not work with
Win7/IE 9.0 and you will need to change to some thing else.

It's very similar to changing the UA in FireFox.

What UA's have you tried?
Did removing SM from your UA string do anything?
Did you set UA override FF part to Firefox/55.0?
Did setting webgl to disabled do anything?

I have seen posts from others about problems with other websites, so
this is hardly unique. It is simply the first time I have encountered

This leads me to ask when the next release will be published. I know
that progress is being made, I simply wonder how much longer it will

and many other problems.

Thank you again to all working on SeaMonkey, I look forward to being
