Another possible solution to getting rid of an unwanted program that
won't uninstall from Windows, is to download a full install of the
program, install that, then see if it appears in the Windows program
list, and uninstall it. This has worked for me several times in the past.

You can't just "delete" programs and applications in Windows. You must
*uninstall* them - especially for heavily-OS-involved software like anti-
virus programs. You've probably corrupted your registry by now.

You need to find a Chrome forum and/or the Avast support groups, not this
SeaMonkey forum.

Hi,

Having exhausted all other modalities, I took a chance and deleted Avast
, then downloaded it again while carefully unchecking the 2 Chrome
boxes. Nevertheless, the Chrome files either returned or stayed,as they
are still there. Now attempts at deletion lead to "access denied". It
seems, from the file names, that the Avast and Chrome files are
intertwined.

I give up,.

If you have installed Google's browser by accident, you can uninstall it
again via the uninstall a program control panel applet. You also need to
open another browser to make that one the default system browser again.

Note: This is not a good idea to remove some stuff of a program, because
the uninstall program may not work due to the non presence of those

I just now tried Revo Uninstaller.

The most frustrating program that I have had to install or uninstall is
newer versions of doPDF; it fails to install completely and then the
partial installation fails to uninstall. I now have older doPDF 7.2
completely installed and working okay.

I thought I would test Revo Uninstaller on doPDF. However, doPDF does
not even show in Revo Uninstaller's list of installed software. doPDF
does show in Microsoft's Programs and Features (what used to be called
Add or Remove Programs).

I uninstalled Revo Uninstaller. Unsure of how it would deal with
removing itself, I used Microsoft's Programs and Features to uninstall it.

AVG requires that the old version be uninstalled before installing an
update. I almost always go off-line to install any software. I remain
online when only stub installers are available; stub installers require
an Internet connection to download addition files. However, AVG is
always available as a complete installer; so going off-line is not a
problem for updating it.

Mort Linder

1 - Go to the Chrome directory.

2 - Do a 'Select all' (Control A).

3 - Right click on highlighted files and directories.

4 - Click on Delete.

5 - If you get the Admin Permissions error, go to the directory you get
the error on and repeat steps 2 - 4.

6 - If you can delete all but one or two files in one or more Chrome
sub-directories, do a system restart and repeat the process.

Reason you cannot delete the root directory for Chrome is that some of
the sub-directories use 'inherited permissions' and must be removed
before the root directory can be removed.

There is a handy tool called 'Take Ownership' which makes resolving this
kind of problem very easy. Search for it, read about it, install it, be
happy.

That is not normal GC behavior. Normal Chrome browser can be deleted

It is never a good idea, in Windows, to remove a program by deleting it
from the drive. You never know what hooks will be left, what registry crap
there is, and even if the missing file could prevent booting up next time.

I don't know the answer (I don't use Windows), but tread lightly with this
"delete" stuff.

Mort, you should find a Chrome newsgroup or forum to ask your question,
not the SeaMonkey newsgroup.

Try Eraser from . You might have to accept
Eraser's option to erase on the next bootup.

If the file is locked, try Unlocker from
. If Unlocker determines that the
file is not locked after all, it gives you the option to delete it.
