Good idea. If that fails, then maybe someone can code one and open
source it?

Unfortunately, we may be looking at this situation, or a user hack of the
extension as it stands. Jeremy's e-mail address, jer...@mozmonkey.com,
doesn't ping, and logically, the e-mail I sent to that address has been
undeliverable. The post I made to the mozdev newsgroups for TinyURL has
also gone unanswered. It appears the creator has abandoned his extensions,
even though his website remains accessible.

If any extension developer would be willing to look at TinyURL Creator and
at least give instructions so users could successfully hack the install.rdf,
individual users could then at least get the extension working with SM 2
without switching off the compatibility check.

Perhaps a post in the Mozillazine forums would be constructive...

The next version of Lightning should be compatible with SeaMonkey 2.0.
Indeed, I have a nightly build installed now, and have a tab in

Should be compatible up to 2.01 pre. I suspect you tried to install the
wrong version. Note that it is dependent on platform, here is a direct

What's not working? It won't work if you have old bookmarks you created
with the older version of IETab, that I discovered. Go to the page you
want, and then switch the rendering engine to IE. Bookmark THAT.
Compare this new bookmark to your old ones and you'll see the difference.

I really don't understand a need for the Extension Manager extension,
when the Addons Manager manages extensions and themes so well.

Back in Mozilla 1.0 days, I started using Tabbed Browser Extensions, and
it made a great difference. However, it just got way too extensive, and
was a huge problem on every new version.

I do miss the functions of Tab Mix Plus though. The only really nice
feature was to be able to set search results to always open in a new
tab. I was able to do that with Monkey Menu in 1.1.18, and I do miss
that. Other then that, SM 2/0 is handling tabs very well with built in
functions.

Re: SeaMonkey v2 extension replacements

I finally installed SeaMonkey v2.0 cleanly! I am slowly, manually
reconfiguring it to match my old v1.1.18 installations.

However, I have two old extensions that won't install in SeaMonkey v2.0:

TinyURL Creator v2.0 -- http://mozmonkey.com/

Originally, I thought I could get this extension to work with SM 2 by hacking
the install.rdf file within the .xpi and bumping up the version number for SM.
However, the install.rdf file uses an older syntax for the target applications
(at least this is what appears to be the case), and substituting the following
for the older SM entry doesn't pass muster on SM 2's compatibility check:

   em:targetApplication
  !-- SeaMonkey --
  Description
em:id{92650c4d-4b8e-4d2a-b7eb-24ecf4f6b63a}/em:id
em:minVersion2.0a1/em:minVersion
em:maxVersion2.1/em:maxVersion
  /Description
/em:targetApplication

Since there aren't any alternatives for SM 2, and TinyURL really is the best
extension, given its link shrinkage service chooser, I bit the bullet and
switched off compatibility checking in SM 2 in order to get the hacked .xpi to
install. This is, of course, by adding extensions.checkCompatibility to the
prefs.js using about:config, and setting it to false. This is the only way
I've been able to get TinyURL Creator 2.0 to install for SM 2--and it does
work flawlessly once it's installed. Caveat: the Add-Ons Manager will
continually burp at you that the compatibility check is turned off while this
pref is set to false, and update checks for TinyURL will fail due to the
extension's current coding.

Ant, I haven't sent Jeremy Gillick, the author of this extension, an e-mail
yet, to ask if he'd officially update it for SM 2. But I intend to, and
