free Rollback RX

2015-04-12 Thread Neville via Talk

Hi,

It has been mentioned on this list numerous times about restoring the
system to an earlier time with the Windows Restore feature. Apparently
the Windows Restore feature can cause problems although I have never
experienced this.

Anyway, there is now a free or home version of Rollback RX. Just do a
search for Rollback RX Home download.

The Home version only allows 7 snapshots and does not allow the setting
up of when the snapshops can be taken automatically. By default, a new
snapshot is taken upon bootup and does not take long for the 7 to be
reached. At this point, no more snapshots are recorded without manual
intervention.

The first snapshot is locked and cannot be unlocked or deleted which
leaves 6 snapshots available. This is where the programme becomes useful.

It is very simple with WE, to go into the snapshots, right click the
oldest snapshot and delete it. A new snapshot can be then manually taken
by pressing control n and follow the prompts.

Currently I am deleting the oldest and creating a new one every 4 days
giving a maximum of 24 days coverage. The whole process of deletion and
creation is very quick and easy. However, the next boot up may take a
while as the existing snapshots are defragged.

I had a situation recently where the system would not boot correctly and
the Windows Restore feature would not work.

With sighted assistance, very early in the boot process, it was noticed
that a message briefly flashed on the screengiving the option to press a
key. From memory, I think it was the Homekey which needed to be
pressed in order to give access to the Rollback feature. Anyway, it was
then a simple task of using the keys to select andexecute a Rollback
snapshot. At this early point in the boot process, the mouse would not
function.

The rollback worked perfectly and my system was back to normal in a
short time.

HTH
Neville.

Re: Thunderbird and W-E 9.1 NOT but 9.0 works

2015-04-12 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Brenda,

All I can say is something is definitely messed up because many folks
use TB with no problems. So again I would suggest calling GW. They've
been dealing with these things for so long they may know exactly what's
going on as soon as they hear your description of the problem.

For me 9.1 was a big improvement. So something may have gotten messed up
that requires their emergency removal utility. If nothing else they
should know best what to check and have you do to try to track down the
problem.

Good luck,
Tom

I wasn't too concerned because I knew the problem was with Window eyes

So I uninstalled W-e using controll panel and reinstalled W-e 9 from the

Then I downloaded and installed W-E 9.1 and I'm back to where I was with

Re: Accessible application to play Internet radio

2015-04-12 Thread Dave via Talk

I use the Tappen Radio program, that someone else has already mentioned.

it works well enough. Sometimes the quality of sound seems a bit
lacking, but it does work, and it is good enough.

I use it to record Sports if I am going to be away from the
Computer. It works great for that.

I can also choose from what seems like a Zillion Radio Stations from
all over the world and all kinds of styles.

As far as this program playing just strictly Internet Radio stations,
I would think it would, but then again, all I use it for is recording
from regular radio stations that Stream their programing over the Internet.

If you have the Stations URL, you can type this in and it should go
there and play what they are broadcasting.

friend field. And no preceeding the friend with the at symbol does not
work in this app. Otherwise if this is a new app this is a great start.

tagging friends using the facebook app

2015-04-12 Thread Jim Grimsby JR. via Talk
Hi,

Ok first I have never needed to do this before, so I had to figure it out.

First go in to the facebook app.

Now press the status button. You can write what ever it is you want to say
in the edit box now or you can do it after you tag your friends.

Any way I wrote what I wanted to say first. I mean focus is already there so
you might as well. I tried it both ways as I said and it works.

Now tab over to tag a friend.

Press this button.

Now tab to the list view and move down to the friend you want to tag.

Press enter. If you have more friends to tag move down the list to the next
one and press enter. Keep doing this tell you have tagged all the people
in the list view you want to tag.

Note window-eyes may report and probably will report it is not selected
but it is. Now ehn you are done in the list tab over to save. Now press
enter. Note you must press enter on the save button or you will be in a
never ending loope. Spacebar on this button does not cut it for some
reason. Also spacebar on the list item does not cut it here. You need to
use the inter key.

Then you can go over to post and it will be posted and you will see that the
people you wanted to tag in the post were tagged.

Re: New window eyes list member

2015-04-12 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk
Is it possible that you chose a synthesizer that you didn't have
installed on your system at the time? I actually did that myself, or
should I say, when my wife installed it for me. I did give her wrong
direction in that case I'm afraid.

You probably should have chosen either the Microsoft Platform, or the
SAPI voices, and you would most likely have speech.

I would find a pair of sighted eyes, and have them Go to the Devices
options in the WE control panel, choose synthesizers, and from there,
choose one of the voices I mentioned above, and hopefully you should be
in business.

Really hope this helps,

Re: application to play internet radio

2015-04-12 Thread Chris Skarstad via Talk

Hi

Oh, There are plenty out there. Tapin Radio, available at
http://www.tapinradio.com is free, with the ability to pay 12 bucks in
US dollars to have the ability to record any streams you might be
listening to. Very accessible! If it wasn't, I wouldn't be using it of
course.

Barring that, there's always Winamp, the first program I ever used to
listen to music and internet radio I ever used. It's not seeing a whole
lot of development these days, but it's still widely used, and there are
Window-eyes scripts that make it work very well. As I'm not a JAWS user
these days i have no idea of the level of access given, but I do
remember back in the day that scripts were included with the product, so
there's a good chance it can be used But since this is being posted to
the Window-eyes discussion list, i'm going to give the scripts for
Window-eyes a big recommendation. They're very good indeed. You can
also use other programs like Windows media player to listen to internet
radio but I don't have much experience with those. My big 2 are Tapin
Radio and Winamp. Winamp can still be downloaded from many sites, just
do a google search for download Winamp and I'm sure you'll find it.

Hope this helps!

As you might know, flash player is not that accessible with screen reader.

For instance, I cannot get to the buttons to control the volume, mute the

Moreover, many of these radios seem to be getting rid of players like winamp

Do you know of any web-based service that is accessible to play this type of
content?

Or any desktop application that can play internet radio with such formats as

jaws can work with?

Your help is, in advance, appreciable.

RE: amazon web site

2015-04-12 Thread Andre via Talk
You can try nvda, and/or firefox. I had this issue as well. Still do. So you
can login using WE and firefox and I think have it read the addresses as
buttons. Then you can finish your shopping in ie. It's kind of a crazy
workaround but hey we have to try all kinds of things. It's truly
unfortunate. So you'd be logged in with both browsers at the same time. Some
parts of the amazon site work better in ff and other parts in ie.That's been
my realization at least.

Off Topic: but this is a real head scratcher

2015-04-12 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk
I sincerely apologize for posting this rather off topic message to the
list, but if someone has any experience with this issue - not relating
to WE particularly, please answer off list. Since acquiring my new
computer, and installing WE, as well as fighting with Thunderbird etc.,
I haven't ventured to look for a more appropriate list where I know this
question would be, I'm sure a bit more welcome, but here goes.

Has anybody experienced this annoyance? It's really more than an
annoyance, but I can't spell the word that would apply at the moment.

For some reason, removable drive listings keep proliferating in my This
PC listing of drives. None of them seem to be filling in when I put
another USB drive into the USB slots, but another is added instead with
the exception of the g: drive. As a matter of fact, when I placed a
drive into the slot this morning, another drive option was added.

I thought that maybe these drive designations would be filled in when a
USB dribe was inserted, but no go.

I cannot find a way of removing these phantom listings anywhere, much
less stopping this from happening. Any ideas?

I promise all of you that I will look into joining any list for this
kind of question that any of you could recommend as soon as possible,
but this is really quite worrisome.

And don't worry, I have a couple more topical issues concerning
perplexities with WE For Office (which is what I am using) to present to
before the list. I also promise to give all of you a break as soon as at
all possible. But I sure hope you will please indulge me on this one.

Thanks much,

Larry

but I cannot get to that list -- either on the regular Amazon.com page
or the /Access page, nor can I find it on the Amazon app, which seems
otherwise to be very useable with IOS and VO. Does anyone have
suggestions for getting to other addresses?

Thanks.

And, if there are no work-arounds, isn't it time for us to file
complaints with DOJ?

Amazon also has an accessible web page. I've lost the URL when my XP
machine went south.

to use shop with points with that site i can't find the option at
checkout. use the regular site. if you version of IE does not work
switch to firefox. i have always been able to place orders and click
on buttons, but i can't always use the same browser.

RE: Found out why I wasn't getting list messages

2015-04-12 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
Rod,

I don't know the specifics of how changes to the junk folder rules get updated
on our computers but I think it is part of the security updates to Microsoft
office. Since I have not used Outlook very long, others may have more
specifics.

If you are not using POP3 and SMTP, then junk folder rules on your server are
also affecting how
mail gets into the junk folders on your computer since the folders are
synchronized. You won't even know when those rules change.

From my work on other lists, I am aware that there are a lot of headers that
can help prevent a message from getting flagged as spam. Particularly in the
MailMan software,
there are options that can help lists such as this one avoid going into spam,
but it seems more of an art than a science as to what works. It is possible
that
changes in the headers associated with this list could trigger your junk
filter. There is even a tendency now for certain IP addresses of specific
email
systems to cause mail to be moved to the junk folder. I recently found that
one of the IP Addresses of my email provider, VISI.COM, was flagged as a
source of spam by Earthlink and all related addresses such as MindSpring. This
block had nothing to do with me or even VISI.COM as a whole, but just
one of the addresses that passed mail from me. Anyway, it is all a bit
frustrating at times.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Hi Steve,

Actually, I didn't know this. When you refer to updates, are you referring
to security updates for the Office suite, some of which take place on the
Hotmail server?

Thanks,

Rod

Rod,

You probably know this, but the office update process can add to the
criteria used for junk filtering. Also,
depending upon how you connect to hotmail, the updates could even be
happening on the server.

Steve Jacobson

Hi,

Thanks to those who responded off-list to my earlier post about not getting
list messages.

Although it was strange that I hadn't changed any setting in Outlook 2010,
starting yesterday my Junk filter suddenly started sending all messages
into
the Junk folder.

Only when I set the Junk filter to the first position, No automatic
filtering, did messages start appearing in my inbox once again.

Thanks again,

Rod

Re: Question About the Ribbon

2015-04-12 Thread Tom Fairhurst via Talk
Try Alt+h i m. You should then be able to move a message to the folder you
desire. Oddly enough, I had never thought of using the mouse keys on the
number pad, but it certainly makes sense. . I just know that the method I
shhared with you works for me.

Been off this list for a while.

Windows 7
WE 9.1
WLM

I used to be able to move emails to different folders in Windows Live Mail
for storage using the num pad. Now with WE 9.1 I can’t. And I can’t figure
out the ribbon.

I presume I have to use the ribbon to move the emails now?
