Hi William,

Recent updates to Office 365 to the current version has modified Outlook's
behavior such that you must now use Control-tab or F6 to move to the message
list of the selected folder and you must add the Shift key to these
keystrokes to move back to the folder tree once again.
You can Also use Control-Y, as always, to find and jump to a certain folder
quickly.
Further, Control-R doesn't seem to work to reply to a message unless you
have the message window itself open, that is, it no longer works from the
message list.
I'm certain we will all continue to write to the list to help each other
keep up with these accessibility challenges.
As for verbosity, I am certain that the Window-Eyes developers will continue
to issue updates to the Outlook Enhanced app to deal with changes to the
interface.

Hth,

Rod

Hello everyone

I've just recently installed Window-Eyes 9.5.1 on a windows 20 machine. As
of yet, the anniversary edition has not come through for my machine.

I've noticed when arrowing through the message list on Outlook, Window-Eyes
will say "no associated drafts" "unread" "attachment" "no attachment".

I know what the "unread" means and that status will change to "read" if
indeed the message has been read. I have also noticed that when reading
Hotmail messages, it will say "no reminder".

I've tried a few settings to try and silence those notifications but I can't
seem to figure out why it won't change. It seems there might be an icon that
needs to be focused on and at this point, that icon has no focus.

Does this make sense and if so are there any suggestions? I'm also thinking
it might work better once the windows 10 update has come in.

RE: Windows Software, WE and Updates And Upgrades

2016-08-16 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi Rod:
I was doing some general reading about how Microsoft pushes out upgrades and
updates.
It appears, the article was confusing, that MS may hold off pushing out
upgrades and updates, other than critical ones, for about 4 months after the
initial rollout to folks like home users to ensure there are no glitches and
that any necessary fixes are in place before the pro users get the update or
upgrade.
There are also other schedules they use for Enterprise and some specialized
users.
There is a check box on your computer you can check that would, I think,
defer installing of updates and upgrades for 8 months, not sure how it would
impact home users.
I have the default automagic install of updates and upgrades and have not
changed this setting as I was not sure if it was a good idea at the time.
I forgot to save the url to the article or would put it here for all to read
but can try to find it again if anyone is interested and cant find it.
I wonder if this is what is going on.
I wonder if MS is just waiting 4 months to push the windows 10 anniversery
edition to the Windows Pro users.
They did say that pro users could download updates and upgrades manually but
I don't recall any setting to allow automatic download and install for pro
users as they are rolled out.
This may be why we have not received the new upgrade on our windows pro
machines - fingers crossed they get it right.
As for the Office 365 updates I will look into that via the link you
provided and perhaps upgrade there but because of the problems I see others
having with the 2016 Outlook version I will need to do some homework prior
to getting off into that mire, sigh.
That's all I have this early morning to report as I am really, really busy
trying to repair my investing platform after some changes Yahoo has made to
their website and I have to switch to pulling down data from the NASDAQ now.
Later and thanks for the help.

Hi Rick,

If you type update in the search edit box in the Start menu, Check for
Updates will appear.
If you press Enter on this, you'll be taken to the Windows Update dialog.
If you tab to the Check for updates button and Press it, you'll activate the
manual download of available updates.
Once downloads are available, tabbing to the Install button will actually
install them, and you'll be asked to restart your system when installed.
Now, if you don't manually install updates, this will normally be done
automatically if you leave your system on overnight.
I manually installed updates on my Windows 10 Pro virtual machine twice over
the last week, the last time being today.
Now, even though the Windows Update dialog continues to report that my
Windows is up to date, the current build of my Windows version is still
1511.
I'm starting to be convinced that the anniversary update is either only for
Windows 10 Home, or it will be rolled out to Pro later.
Perhaps Home users are the guinea pigs while the advanced Pro users remain
happy go lucky with their stable 1511 build. Grin

All the best,

Hey Rod,

The anniversary update is being rolled out rather slowly. And supposedly
Microsoft is updating newer systems first. My Windows 10 Pro machine
which is only a few months old got the anniversary update only days
after it was launched. So that may be at least part of the reason. And
who knows what else they're checking for compatibility and so on be it
that it's really a whole new install of Windows.

My ctrl-alt shortcut combos are suddenly gone

2016-08-16 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk

Listers,

I know this might border on the off topic, but I'm quite certain that
most all of you use these kind of shortcut combos for easy access to
your favorite apps/programs, and when they don't work, you can feel a
bit lost and frustrated, as I do at the moment.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can go about getting mine back? I
got up this morning and when I tried loading IE, with ctrl-alt-i, it
didn't work. The same with my Thunderbird keys ctrl-alt-e.

All of my windows key shortcuts are working fine, it is just these
personal combo keys that are giving me trouble.

And yes, the ctrl-alt-w is working for Window-Eyes.

I did try redefining one of the shortcuts, but to no avail.

If anybody has any ideas they would certainly be appreciated. I just
hope I don't have to do something so drastic as a Windows restore, but
if that will work, guess I'll just have to bite one and do that. But
hope we can find a more immediate and softer solution.

Re: Windows Software, WE and Updates And Upgrades

Rick,

My Windows 10 pro desktop did not get the update, so I downloaded the
media creation tool and started the upgrade that way and I'm using the
upgraded system while writing this email. By the way, the next
cumulative update that came out out on August 8, seems to have really
improved windows 10 speed.

Hi Rod:
I was doing some general reading about how Microsoft pushes out upgrades and

Rod

I just

Hi all,
When I'm in a particular cell that I want to check, I cannot read what's in
that cell when pressing
the f2 keystroke. I thought this was the "edit" keystroke. What setting am
I missing? I need to
check the spelling of names for accuracy. Thank you for help here.

RE: My ctrl-alt shortcut combos are suddenly gone

2016-08-16 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
First start with items that are pinned that you don't want pinned such as edge,
on my computer, edge is the first item. Arrow to it, press the applications
key and select unpin from taskbar.
If it is a program that is open that you don't want pinned , close it. Then
open them one at a time and after they are open, pin them by pressing windows-t
right arrow to it and hit the applications key and select pin to taskbar.

Not sure if there is a way to move open programs around on the taskbar.

One could pin programs to the task bar in a specific order and then press
alt-1 through alt-0 to launch or switch to them.
To see the order of programs on your task bar, press windows-t and then
right arrow through.

i can look at the properties of the non working icon and the shortcut keys i
have defined are still there but will not work. rebooting does not bring
them back. i have to go into the properties and delete the shortcut. save
the change then put the shortcut keys back then the icon shortcut will start
working again until the next time a few months later.

Listers,

I know this might border on the off topic, but I'm quite certain that most
all of you use these kind of shortcut combos for easy access to your
favorite apps/programs, and when they don't work, you can feel a bit lost
and frustrated, as I do at the moment.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can go about getting mine back? I got
up this morning and when I tried loading IE, with ctrl-alt-i, it didn't
work. The same with my Thunderbird keys ctrl-alt-e.

All of my windows key shortcuts are working fine, it is just these personal
combo keys that are giving me trouble.

And yes, the ctrl-alt-w is working for Window-Eyes.

I did try redefining one of the shortcuts, but to no avail.

If anybody has any ideas they would certainly be appreciated. I just hope I
don't have to do something so drastic as a Windows restore, but if that will
work, guess I'll just have to bite one and do that. But hope we can find a
more immediate and softer solution.

Thanks,

Larry

Browse Mode not Available

2016-08-16 Thread Barbara via Talk
Hi Everyone,

I have Windows 7, IE 11, and WE 9.51.

>From time to time, I will go to a web site and get the message browse mode
not available. It is different sites and it occurs in a haphazard pattern.
I have tried the F5 refresh key and this does not help. Nor does toggling
browse mode off/on using shift/control/a. So I close IE and reopen it and
go to the same web site and all works fine.

Any ideas what is going on and how to prevent this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

then put the shortcut keys back then the icon shortcut will start working again
until the next time a few months later.

Thanks,

Larry

RE: Browse Mode not Available

2016-08-16 Thread Marc Solomon via Talk
Hi Barbara,
This is an intermittent issue that I have seen from time to time in both
Internet Explorer and Firefox. Assuming you are using a fully updated version
of Internet Explorer 11 without any additional toolbars or extensions
installed, I don't think there is anything you can do to prevent the problem as
it seems to occur randomly without much of a pattern. Your best course of
action is to try and recover from the issue as quickly as possible. The
troubleshooting steps your listed are spot on. First, try to toggle Browse Mode
to see if it comes back. If not, try refreshing the web page. If that fails,
closing and reopening the browser is logical next step. If that doesn't do the
trick, relaunching Window-Eyes or restarting the PC is recommended. I am
curious to know if those using newer versions of Windows are experiencing this
problem more or less than people using Windows 7.
Best,
Marc

Hi William,

Recent updates to Office 365 to the current version has modified Outlook's
behavior such that you must now use Control-tab or F6 to move to the
message

list of the selected folder and you must add the Shift key to these
keystrokes to move back to the folder tree once again.
You can Also use Control-Y, as always, to find and jump to a certain
folder

quickly.
Further, Control-R doesn't seem to work to reply to a message unless you
have the message window itself open, that is, it no longer works from the
message list.
I'm certain we will all continue to write to the list to help each other
keep up with these accessibility challenges.
As for verbosity, I am certain that the Window-Eyes developers will
continue

to issue updates to the Outlook Enhanced app to deal with changes to the
interface.

Hello everyone

I've just recently installed Window-Eyes 9.5.1 on a windows 20 machine. As
of yet, the anniversary edition has not come through for my machine.

I've noticed when arrowing through the message list on Outlook,
Window-Eyes

will say "no associated drafts" "unread" "attachment" "no attachment".

I know what the "unread" means and that status will change to "read" if
indeed the message has been read. I have also noticed that when reading
Hotmail messages, it will say "no reminder".

I've tried a few settings to try and silence those notifications but I
can't
seem to figure out why it won't change. It seems there might be an icon
that

needs to be focused on and at this point, that icon has no focus.

Does this make sense and if so are there any suggestions? I'm also
thinking

it might work better once the windows 10 update has come in.

A problem with tables mode

When I try going in to table mode on a webpage using Firefox, I keep getting

I've tried to figure out what I've been doing wrong but nothing comes to

Good suggestion David. Moving focus outside of the Web page area in the browser
using F6 or another technique then returning focus to the Web page is another
workaround to try when you encounter this problem.

I noticed that, where I could once reply to a message diredctly from the

begun from the message window.
Other than that, everything seems okay, so far, and I'll reply with any new

Did you tab to "update entry and press space?
Then you'd need to save the changes.

Now I have a new problem, it used to be and I am assuming it should still be,
when you want a word spoken a certain way, you go to pronunciation and tab to
original and type in the word, such as Mr. Then you tab to new word and you
type in mister. In my computer it reads the first only as M R. What am I
missing?

Re: Working with Excel 2016

2016-08-16 Thread Albert Toh via Talk
I believe it's a Window-Eyes issue, as NVDA and even Narrator doesn't have
that issue.

With Window-Eyes, the first time you press F2 to edit a cell, you can hear
the cell contents when you use your left or right arrow keys. However,
subsequent presses of F2 yields no audible results.

I have written to support about this, and hopefully there will be a fix
soon.

Re: Goldwave help

I recently started playing around with GoldWave after a long time of not
using it. I have Windows 7 64-bit Pro with the latest version of
Window-Eyes. I found Window-Eyes a little sticky with it, meaning that it
sometimes froze. I had to restart Window-Eyes tomake it work again. After I
upgraded to the newest version of GoldWave, 6.24, things worked a bit
better, but still occasional freezing. Last time I checked, the GoldWave
hel-p, itself, was pretty good. I believe they even have an accessibility
section, but I'[m not sure how to find it now. Finally, I don't think the
app works any more. Maybe other listers will respond to this with better

GoldWave.set file to receive keyboartd feedback, as the functions of Play,
Record, Stop, etc. will be spoken. Since I did a clean reinstallation of
Window-Eyes recently, I need to do this. Do not make this a global change,
but only a program change.

RE: My ctrl-alt shortcut combos are suddenly gone

2016-08-16 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Larry,

I'm not sure where you specified the hot key, but, in my experience, they
work most consistently if the icons you use to define the hot keys reside on
the desktop.
Indeed, it is wise to check to see if the software the icons point to has
been updated recently and, at that time, if you gave permission for icons to
be placed on the desktop, perhaps they wre overwritten with fresh copies of
the icons, in which case your hot keys would be no longer defind, or perhaps
defined by the developer.
At any rate, as Netbat has suggested, it is a problem which usually can be
remedied by either redefining the hot key, or by deleting the icon, copying
a new one onto the desktop, and then editing its properties to redefine the
hot key.
As you can probably tell, I've been down this road before, and this is why I
don't use them myself, preferring, instead, to press Enter on desktop icons.

Hth,

Rod

consideration, but it just might be worth trying to get used too.

My only problem with the windows key method comes with my wifi keyboard,

this lousy FN key, considering how useless it is proving to be.

Anyway, thanks for reminding us of this option.

would make for an app creator to allow users of Window-eyes to be able to

wish to be careful. I will download free apps when available, but I
wouldn't want to download a free app and have to pay a license fee .

Hi Barbara,
This is an intermittent issue that I have seen from time to time in both
Internet Explorer and Firefox. Assuming you are using a fully updated
version of Internet Explorer 11 without any additional toolbars or
extensions installed, I don't think there is anything you can do to prevent
the problem as it seems to occur randomly without much of a pattern. Your
best course of action is to try and recover from the issue as quickly as
possible. The troubleshooting steps your listed are spot on. First, try to
toggle Browse Mode to see if it comes back. If not, try refreshing the web
page. If that fails, closing and reopening the browser is logical next step.
If that doesn't do the trick, relaunching Window-Eyes or restarting the PC
is recommended. I am curious to know if those using newer versions of
Windows are experiencing this problem more or less than people using Windows
7.

Best,
Marc

Hi Everyone,

From time to time, I will go to a web site and get the message browse mode

not available. It is different sites and it occurs in a haphazard pattern.
I have tried the F5 refresh key and this does not help. Nor does toggling

Any ideas what is going on and how to prevent this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Odd problem

2016-08-16 Thread david pearson via Talk
This only started happening after I installed Windows 10. When I shut
down the computer using the shut down menu. The next time I go to
turn it on the computer will lock up. Then I have to force a shut
down and turn it back on and it starts up just fine. So instead of
going to the start menu, if I just force a shut down it will start up
without locking up the next time I start it. Now I found that this
situation is related to Window Eyes. When I uninstall Window Eyes the
computer turns on and off just fine. To make sure Window Eyes is the
culprit, I uninstalled window Eyes and installed it twice with the
same results. If you're wondering how I turn the computer off without
Window Eyes, I have Kurzweil 1000 and that program has speech and the
ability to turn off the computer. So what do you folks think the
problem could be? Thanks,

Dave

Try pressing F6, once or twice. Sometimes things get going when doing so.

Hi Barbara,
This is an intermittent issue that I have seen from time to time in both

installed, I don't think there is anything you can do to prevent the problem as
it seems to occur randomly without much of a pattern.

Hi Everyone,

I have Windows 7, IE 11, and WE 9.51.

available. It is different sites and it occurs in a haphazard pattern.
I have tried the F5 refresh key and this does not help. Nor does toggling
browse mode off/on using shift/control/a. So I close IE and reopen it and go
to the same web site and all works fine.

Any ideas what is going on and how to prevent this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Andrew,

The app John referred to is called Goldwave Enhance, which I wrote, and its
URL is:

https://www.gwmicro.com/App_Central/Apps/App_Details/?scriptid=1409

This app allows you to speak the start, end, and length times of the
selection.
As for Window-Eyes freezing, my experience is that speech will return if you
wait patiently, although it does seem to take a while sometimes.

I hope this helps a little,

HI to all,#

I'm wondering why AIsquaired do not make a complete survey amongst its
window-eyes users to see which are the most3 or five most important features
requested by the users themselves and let the users be part from the overall
choice.

Thanks,
Michael

Simply because AI Squared always monitors this list. Is actively involved
with the users of Window-Eyes and is always listening to our continuing
needs. They always respond in the most efficient and professional manner as
well.
