In windows ten which I run, window-eyes has it seems 2 "default" configurations, (1) at logon default? and (2) another default at the windows after logon. At one time, there were a number .of apps which cause errors and prevented Window-Eyes from even starting. You can get Window-Eyes to start without apps running by starting Window-Eyes and then immediately holding down the Shift key and holding it down until it starts. In the Window-Eyes control panel, in the Apps menu, there is an option called App Management. If you then open App Management using right arrow, the first option is called App Status. You can then press right arrow again and then one of three options wil always be checked, On, Off, or Manual. Indeed, holding down the Shift key when you start Window-Eyes sets Apps to Manual. Normally, it will be set to On, and once you disable whatever apps you think may be causing problems, you would set it to On. A while back, the following apps caused me problems until I disabled them, although they don't seem to be doing so now. Anyway, you could disable all of these, and Window-Eyes will work fine. I have never had the below problem on older versions of Thunderbird, but I just installed the latest version of Thunderbird on this new laptop. It is difficult to describe because I can't find a consistent pattern in addition to which it shows up but far less frequently when using Jaws 2021. At any rate what happens is that the message lists work fine, but when I open an individual message, I see normal headers and all links, absolutely no message body. On one occasion when using W E and attempting to read a TB message, I saw something which said something like "document to saved files" or something similar. The intermittent problems are of course the most difficult to diagnose. When I checked in Thunderbird, Thunderbird.set is loaded, and of course that wave file of the birds loaded as well. Sorry for the seemingly unrelated frragments of info, but as stated previously, I can't find a consistent pattern, and I am tearing out what little hair I have left. A few months ago, Rod Hutton mentioned some problematic files with recent versions of Windows 10 and W E. This seems unlikely in this instance because Jaws also occasionally shows this issue. At this point I feel compelled to ask whether there is any other viable email option. The version of mail which comes with Windows 10 is in my opinion a bad joke. W E can read the message list and the reading pain, but pressing enter accomplishes nothing. If I use Jaws with mail, I can read the entire message, but Jaws won't announce the sender's name unless I have misconfigured it. Ideas please. Thanks. Re: Key Sticking in WinEyes
Well, jfw, for many years has issues with it's keyboard driver where either the control or alt key gets stuck down, and then becomes a combined keystroke for subsequent keys. The only way to fix it is to tap on the "so-called) "stuck down" key many times and hopefully it'll release. This behavior goes way back in time to JFW 5.0, or at least the first JFW which supported windows XP or maybe even earlier. Curtis Delzer HS K 6 V F O Rialto, CA cur...@calweb.com On 1/7/2020 7:15 AM, David via Talk wrote: That's right. And just to clarify any misunderstandings. In my initial message I was not sure exactly what term to use for the behavior I described. Probably I chose a less clear term, since it was misinterpretted to mean the feature of Windows, named sticky keys. That one, is a "wanted" feature, something you deliberately will have the chance of turning on. And something that you will activate by either holding down the right shift for a few seconds, or pressing it repeatedly three times within a limited period of time. What I was describing, is when things get stuck without you wanting, initiating or intending it to. Another thing is that the Sticky Key function in Windows, will only work for one keystroke at a time. When you turn it on, you will have to press say the shift-key, then a character, to have that one capitalized. Next time you want a capitalized character, you first have to touch the shift-key. You have to repeat that procedure for every keystroke you want with any modifying key. Again, the issue I was talking about, is when you do press no key-modifier, and still they stick or hang. Meaning that every key you press, will be interpretted as if you had pressed it along with a key-modifier. May it happen, that a better term for that is Hanging Keys. Been searching through the menus, hoping for a way to turn error reporting off, but did see nothing. and here, you are several others, who experience the report message popping up on you. Well, at least it seems it might not be my system. Smiles. May I ask if you guys have had some of the apps crash on you as well? See on my system, a couple of apps seem to crash every time I load WinEyes. This has been going on for a couple of weeks, so a bit longer than the Error Report issue, but just wonder if there is some kind of connection. Basically, I do not need the apps, so might have to simply just turn them off, and perhaps you are not running them, hence they would not crash on you. Still just wanted to know. The apps in question is the Uninstall App, developed by Bruce; and also the app that let us change profile with a hotkey, its name being some foreign language, but it something like Profilu. Sorry, I don't have it in front of me right now, that's why memory has to serve. For your info, I have scanned my computer with AntiVirus, Anti-Malware programs, and even ran a Registry cleanup with CCleaner. Once I had the WEDiag app installed yesterday, I let it rebuild the Accessibility Libraries, being one of the features it offered. I had hope that any of this took care of the Error Report, but it doesn't seem to have any positive effect. I did try to hit Send, next time I simply just closed the Error Report Message. The rest of the times it's been on my screen, I pressed the Delete button of the dialog, hoping it would remove the thing from my computer. But it sure seems it generates new reports every startup. Happens even if you close WinEyes with Ctrl-Insert-F4, and then restart the screen reader - a new Error Report comes up. Probably you are right, it might have to do with late updates of the general system. By the way, Yes, I do run Win7Pro 64Bit. Not sure if that is the only kind of systems affected. Who knows, maybe this is the signal that WinEyes is giving its last breath. Win7 support is obviously going to be discontinued in 6 months from now, so could it be something there? I sure hope someone can help me out of this mess. Just last week, it became necessary to replace my Dell PC with another one, so this time I went with an HP. I'm pretty sure that makes no real difference in terms of my present issue. On my Dell, I had 7Zip running in my context menu for extracting, and or zipping files, and became quite comfortable with it. So, thought I'd try putting it on my new system. I downloaded the 64bit edition of the program, and it showed up in my context menu as it should, but out of all the options available, it had no option for extracting files. I should say, I at least can find no such option. Now, this could make it totally impossible to extract either Bookshare, or NLS Talking Books on my system. I called the MS Answer Desk this morning, and asked the guy assigned to help me if he couldn't possibly restore the default program used by Windows, but he did something I was kind of surprised at. He replaced the extraction option with Win zip, and I can find no option for extracting files with Win zip either. To make matters worse, he installed an evaluation copy, which I will have to pay for, provided I end up getting it to cooperate. I sure hope I don't have to do anything drastic, like refreshing Windows, but at least this time, I do have cloud storage backup. This really shouldn't have been this complicated. Sure wish I'd left well enough alone. If anybody has any ideas, or real assistance to provide in getting out of this one, it sure would be gratefully appreciated. Re: Sound Forge Pro 12 app.
wowie! do I appreciate this! I knew I didn't spend the money for SF in vain. it seems to work a little faster than 11, though 11 for me became inoperative after the Magix company took it over, unfortunately. THANK YOU TOM, (all caps) Curtis Delzer HS W B 6 H E F Rialto, CA On 4/7/2019 7:56 PM, Tom Kingston via Talk wrote: This is basically a modification of my app for Sound forge 11. But it's smoother sailing keeping them separate rather than trying to have one app cover both. One big change in Sound Forge 12 (other than being 64 bit) is an option to expose parameters within VST effects that were previously inaccessible. Other than the new Wave Hammer 2.0 these are typically third party plug-ins. Here's how to activate this option. Alt-O Options, P Preferences, VST Effects Tab. Check the check box for Generic VST editor and apply the setting. Within a plug-in window, select a parameter and tab once. "Fader custom control" should be spoken. Arrows often do nothing, unless the parameter has small increments. If they don't then use Page up and down, Home and End, to change the parameter. Then Shift-Tab back up to the list to read the value change. You can read the help that includes the features of the app as well as a list of changes to Sound Forge I recommend either through the App menu or simply by pressing Control-Shift-Question mark while within the main Sound forge window. https://www.dropbox.com/s/u39utwfpkcnum2q/forge120.wepm?dl=1 Enjoy, Tom ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. You can see if they're installed and install them if not by opening the Window-Eyes control panel, Alt+F File, F factory Settings. Then when you install the app it will tell you that chrome.set is being replaced. This is needed to make the app work properly. Here's what the app does. 1. Speaks alert messages, such as download progress and completion. When a file is downloaded the message from Chrome is to press Shift+F6 to go to the download bar. 2. I added Alt+N because it's quicker and the key combination used in Internet Explorer to go to the notification bar for the same purpose. All it's doing is inserting Shift+F6. And it's not tied to the notification. So if you happen to press it without a file downloaded it will just put you up in the address bar. F6 will put you back in the main window. 3. Suggestions entered in the address bar as you type will be spoken. For example, if you type yo, YouTube.com will probably be voiced. These are just pulled out of your history. When you hear the right address just press enter. Unfortunately because you come in on the address bar when Chrome opens, and it doubles as a Google search field, you'll hear everything you type repeated as you type it if there are no suggestions. Obviously there's no way I can tell what you're typing or if it's in your history. Also, the suggestions might not be heard when you first open Chrome. The reason I replaced the set file is so that I could set keyboard interrupt to program scope. Then I set it to control and alt only when you're in the address bar and back to whatever you had it set to when you're not in the address bar. The problem is I have to monitor for the chrome.set file to be loaded before grabbing it. And the stars might not line up in time if you open chrome and start typing immediately. Although you'll probably hear a little snippet of the suggestion. Then you can use the read line hot key to see what's there. And finally, I didn't put error reporting in the app because it uses the GW-Micro App Central server. So if you have any problems you can email me at tom.kings...@charter.net You can also open the Window-Eyes control panel, Alt+A Apps, App management, App manager, select the app, press Alt+H to open Help and Options, then press the About button. One thing you guys should take a serious look at is virtual audio cable, and though not free, it will do much you want including re-directing any audio stream to any device, and give you a "repeater" program to monitor any stream you've changed on whatever or where ever. :) - Curtis Delzer, HS. I have made many filters successfully with Becky, and it works well. You tell me how to do the T-bird filters, (make sounds for each message, so each list has it's own sound for example), and I'll show you how to do the Becky! ones. It is quite easy, actually. "filter manager" is your friend, and start each collection of "rules" per list with move to folder and sound, and the conditions after and you'll be jake. - Curtis Delzer, HS. Re: Becky email questions
I am using Becky! at this moment and I am committed to it. It is simple software with a potentially complex approach which you can either use or ignore. Two views are useable with speech, either the html view from the IE component built into windows, or convert to text which is the easiest. Press downarrow and tab to read the subject and / or sender of the message, and window-eyes by default will read the first 24 lines of the message. "read-to-end" however is broken in the latest window-eyes, and no one seems to know why, but it is easily overcome with the space bar which displays the next screen of the message and hitting "control-shift-d" which reads the field data which I have set up. I completely recommend Becky! which is not so convoluted as Thunderbird, has no adds, and you do not need to use an HTML viewer or creator unless you wish too to read or write mail. It is quick at gathering mail, has pop and that other format which I can't remember the name of but it is seriously implemented, is very easy to set up, and configure. - Curtis Delzer, HS. Windows ten creators' update issues.
I had about 3 or 4 major options. (1) when the last screen came up, of course there is silence and your computer is waiting for you to press the "next" button from within the "welcome to windows" screen with your name on the second line. I had no keyboard, therefore no way to call narrator, and no way to see the "next" button, and no way to activate it, no how with an absent keyboard. (2) I had no sound, since unbeknownst to me, my sounds had been redirected to my headphones output of my sound card, not speakers which is the default and (formerly set up) condition. What to do? Without a mouse connected to my computer, without sight available at the time, I determined with "be my eyes," that the condition of "welcome to windows" was happening and my name were on the screen, and the "next" button, my wife saw with KNFB reader with her phone. I had to find a USB mouse, get my neighbor to come in here and press the "next" button with the mouse, and, of course, we had no keyboard so he had to use the "virtual" keyboard available in "ease of access center," to tap in my PIN which I used at that time to log onto my machine, because I used my Microsoft account so, in case I had a future machine identified with my Microsoft account. My neighbor, then, with very little computer experience, had to find a way through all of the activity happening, (finishing the update, downloading fixes to creator edition), and, then, since I was talking with the Microsoft representative connect my computer to his for fixing. We found out that on my machine, when the Microsoft account was having to be logged into, with my pin being requested, I had no keyboard since the default after the update was with "filter keys" turned on, and though the Microsoft rep turned them off more than once, they got turned on again before my PIN was requested every time a re-boot occurred. So, his solution was to set me up with a local account for now. The "no keyboard" situation was ugly, imagine a blind person without a keyboard, and no way to call narrator during the update because of that, and then, sounds being redirected somewhere else. I did, while my computer was silent, plug headphones into my computer, but with no activity, hung on the welcome screen, there is no potential for sounds to occur, and with no keyboard, how was I to know if my silent narrator was approaching the "next" key with the mouse. Narrator did not stay with me after the last boot, and with no way to invoke it I was hung. So BE WARE! On your machine all may go swimmingly, but it sure did not on mine, and I still do not know if I can re-invoke my Microsoft account with it's PIN used to log into my machine. - Curtis Delzer, HS. Re: Window-Eyes Update 9.5.4 not an update
This window-eyes works much better for me than any of the other 9 versions, no doubt. I still maintain that no one from gw-micro or ai-squared has touted the release, minor or otherwise, as they ALWAYS! did in the past, and my note from Doug was in my inbox, not on this list as it should have been for all to read about the necessity of updating window-eyes, as opposed to the ability to update to a version which contains X fixes for us to enjoy, including this new additional braille display. hmm! - Curtis Delzer, HS. Re: Going Backward in Accessibility?
One thing, in Becky if you wish read-to-end to work again, you can change, under general settings, the third page of options, (message view), the HTML option that "convert to plain text, to use, instead, the IE5 view which is the second from the top of 3 radio buttons. Then your read-to-end keys are the same as those you'd use in Internet explorer of which it is using one of the components of. Other advantages are easier clicking on links in HTML email messages, but, there are disadvantages as well, though you can as easily turn it off and go back to "convert to plain text" as well to get what you have now, back again. Of course, in the normal view of Becky, hitting the space bar to scroll the message 24 or so lines and then hitting control=-shift-d to read the field which I use works too, but auto-read works well when using the html view. That option is about 21 tabs from the start of the "message view" page, or about 10 or so shift-tabs from the other way. :) - Curtis Delzer, HS. Re: the triple talk USB or the dectalk USB
The battery in my tripple talk will run the synthesizer for a little while, but then, after no power from the usb connection for about 4 or so hours, it begins to make noise! :) If our power goes off during the night, I get a rude awakening from my wife, I guarantee! Tempting to take out the battery because who knows whether or not it may leak? or corrode? causing other issues. - Curtis Delzer, HS. This is pretty new, and they are worth out support. This is a SAPI 5 voice I am now using, and the voice has 4 English derivations, and some other languages. Hi, do you all remember tiny talk? A version needed for whatever synthesizer you had installed? At least that is what I remember. I had it available on my BBS, another memory, (should say several memories), running, finally evolved into EzyCom, and I think I ran FrontDoor, for the input to the system because had FidoNet. 1:203.9264 - Curtis Delzer, HS. I believe my first window-eyes was 3.1, and that was with a buddy. :) I had A S A P for dos, and vocal-eyes also which I'd bought back in the windows 95 days, then 98, then XP for probably 11 years. :) Fascinating stuff to hear some of the history. I had an Artic synthesizer, and business/vision software in the very beginning, but you know how it goes; the internet intrudes and then you find out about all the other "good" stuff. :) - Curtis Delzer, HS. Re: still no luck updating to Win 10 anniversary edition
I tried, even with the video drivers' from both jfw and window-eyes "neutralized" in device manager, using narrator and / or NVDA, but they had to be un-installed before I had any joy yesterday. MicroSoft is sloppy too since someone should have known about this, in fact staff at both VFO / AI-Squared should have known that windows' 7 updater as such from last year were using a version of the video drivers that, though they work fine with the earlier version of windows ten from last November, will not allow the install of the anniversary update. - Curtis Delzer, HS. Re: still no luck updating to Win 10 anniversary edition
I was able, with my last working CD image in a *.zip file of 9.3.1 to install Window-Eyes, but . . . it sure didn't like what I was doing crashing all over the place, however in spite of the crashes, now I do have 9.5.10, and with one exception, the virtual view script when it attempts to update it's files and crashes, it's solid as can be. It is why we are so passionate about Window-Eyes, when it works which is about all the time, it is as dependable as it should be. So, when it doesn't we all panic just a bit. :) I still want that CD *.zip of my 9.5.10 which I sure hope they send to me tomorrow. - Curtis Delzer, HS. go to your control panel, device manager, and uninstall the window-eyes driver which is still there. the un-install when it is an earlier installation misses display driver though it gets all the rest of window-eyes. - Curtis Delzer, HS. Re: still no luck updating to Win 10 anniversary edition
Chris, as you know I was using window-eyes 9.5.10, and the issue is that I had run the install for window-eyes 8.0 which was the base install for my 9.5.10. I found this out when I uninstalled last night for the first time. In that way I found out that the installer did not remove my we display driver at all. Many of us customers updated from windows 7 to ten initially last July, 2015, so we have to remove window-eyes including deleting the drivers from within control panel and device manager. I was only able to update to the current windows anniversary update after I did this. - Curtis Delzer, HS. you need to uninstall window-eyes and jfw and then go to the control panel in device manager making sure both the freedom scientific display driver and the window-eyes driver are removed. anniversary update, issues!
P038292400 Ok, well someone sure did drop the ball both at ai-squared and VFO, since I had to uninstall both programs, Window-Eyes 9.510 and jfw 17 in order to get the windows ten anniversary update. Display drivers had uninstalled, or the new installation of WE or JFW saw those drivers and figured they were there so were good enough or something. Suffice to say windows ten and made sure that both drivers were not there, only then could I install the update. Now, my issue is this; my window-eyes 9.4 (with serial number from CD) is corrupt, I did have a 9.3.1 version but it will not install due to many errors, though it did with the earlier build of windows last night, but not today so I need my latest cd generated. - Curtis Delzer, HS. Re: adobe audition and window-eyes
I wish to add one very accessible sound editing program to Steve's comprehensive and quite meaningful and thorough discussion. That is studio recorder from APH. That one is completely accessible, including making sounds for overload in it's "clipping when overload" occurs for your input sound. All it does not have is any kind of noise reduction like Sound Forge, Gold Wave, Audacity, and others but it is intended for the spoken word, though certainly you can record and edit music with it just as easily. Lately there are new and fantastic scripts written for Sound Forge pro v11, but there we're talking about an expensive package. Studio Recorder is, $200. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. AnyBurn is great, except: how do you keep a file saving what you've created to make future copies? - Curtis Delzer, HS. try adjusting winamp while it is playing inside the volume mixer. That gets turned down individually sometimes in spite of the arrow condition within winamp. - Curtis Delzer, HS. Fw: [TechTalk] Scamming The Scammers
Hi guys and ladies. this is a good listen to someone who definitely scammed the scammers who call purporting to be windows' support personnel. Circulate far and wide, you'll see why if you listen to the link. Forwarded by Curtis Delzer --- Original Message --- From:"Mike B." To: m...@techtalk.groups.io Date:Mon, 6 Jun 2016 15:22:37 -0700 Subject: [TechTalk] Scamming The Scammers Hi All, For those that Haven't heard this yet. Have a listen to the following link. It's a recorded & videoed conversation of 1 of these people that calls & claims to be from Microsoft, or whatever reputable company, & wants to get on your computer, to "Fix it". Recorded by a very tecky gentleman with the Federal Trade Commission, who really knew how to record it all! Pass it on to friends and family, a very important lesson to be learned here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVQoAlQrnSg Take care. Mike FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION! It comes bundled with the software. I did have NOD32, but lapsed a few years ago, but am willing to try something else. I apparently may have a problem, :) and need a virus solution other than windows defender for this weird problem I have. would you recommend what you like and why? - Curtis Delzer, HS.
