How about a label printer where you can print out the labels and stick them on

Barbara, like you, I have a Canon printer. It is a rather high-end one though
used primarily at work. I don't have a printer at home, although I am in dire
need of one that's portable enough to stick in a laptop bag since I am always
running after myself ! And I want to stay away from inkjets, I am tired
and sick of having to buy inks every other day.

I use Word 2007 still and I don't have problems printing envelopes. I did have
difficulties getting it inserted correctly, but, I called Canon Tech Support,
explained the situation and, right on, they were extremely helpful!
Patiently, they explained to me how to lay the envelope inside the printer.
It was as if the support tech was standing next to me. I'd therefore suggest
you call Canon Tech Support at:

800-652-2666 and follow the prompts.

On another list I frequent, I don't recall which one now amongst many, someone
posted info about an envelope printing program which I downloaded.
It's a ZIP file, hopefully not too big a file to send your way. Sorry, I'm not
into DropBox, else I'd have placed it there.

If you send me a private note, I'd be glad to search for this program file and
send it your way to play with.

Sincerely,
Olusegun

RE: Strange Behavior with Window-eyes

2016-10-24 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
Sounds like your antivirus program flagged Window-eyes components. This
behavior is common in Webroot with the same type of results.

You may need to disable your antivirus program from scanning and reinstall
Window-eyes. Then see if you can white list Window-eyes components or go to
your antivirus manufacturer and have them white list Window-eyes.
They can always download the Window-eyes for users of Microsoft office offer
and put it through their tests to make sure it isn't bad.

Subject: Strange Behavior with Window-eyes

I'm running Window-eyes 9.5.3 on a 64-bit edition of Windows 10, Anniversary
Update. Window-eyes seems to behave as I would expect in Word and on the
desktop.

Beyond that, it's almost acting as though certain components are not active. As
an example, when I press the Windows key with R to bring up the Run dialog, all
I hear is "r" without the prompt, even though the dialog seems to be there.

I brought up a non-VFO screen reader, which confirmed the presence of the run
dialog. Once I closed that screen reader, I would find the run dialog in the
alt-tab list but, once I place focus on that dialog, Window-eyes is silent,
behaving as though nothing was present, not giving me any speech.

When I open the preinstalled Mail app it gives me no feedback as I press keys,
but if I alt-tab out of the window and then alt-tab back in I might hear the
name of a button which might have focus.

Obviously, something has gotten corrupted. I just did a total uninstall and
reinstall of Window-eyes and would prefer a simpler solution to fix this. Could
someone offer any suggestions?

Hi,

As far as I am aware aisquared are no longer selling s m a's. In an email from
someone at aisquared a few months ago. The person sending the email to asquared
asked if s m a's could be purchased and how much they were. The aisquared
person stated that the cost of an upgrade was $49 but did not mention s m a's.
Leading me to believe then that window-eyes was not safe at that point.

I keep a very slight hope that window-eyes will survive but all the signs say
it won't. A good Company with a good Public Relations office would have kept
window-eyes customers up to date with internal events in VFO. Sadly this
company hasn't, neither has aisquared. It is the lack of information that is
the problem. Taking into account dealers being informed that window-eyes and
related products will no longer be on offer after December the first is
extremely worrying. Add up all the negatives one does get an idea window-eyes
will be discontinued. As there are absolutely no positives.
What else are window-eyes customers to conclude. All down to both VFO and
Asquared for not keeping us up to date. As window-eyes customers we have the
right to be informed about the product we have loyally supported for over two
decades.

Live long and prosper, John

Hello,

I have been having some trouble with WE and another program here at work.
It has been suggested that I 1. Either create a new profile or 2. Log in as
another user profile with Administrator rights.
This is trying to determine if my User profile is corrupted and helping to
cause some of my crashing and issues.
I was able to log into a different Administrator window profile and have WE
come up but my custom app for this particular program did not come up under
that profile.

How can I copy my "Working" we and apps over to another windows profile?
That way I can use the custom app under that user to see if the "Shannon"
profile is corrupted in some way?

Thanks so very much.

look for an option that says something to the effect of, "show an envelope icon
when new mail arrives." Uncheck it, hit Enter to accept the change, and you
should be all set.

If that doesn't work or you can't locate the option, I recommend pingging the
Microsoft Disability Answer Desk for help. They can be reached at (800)
936-5900.

Hope this helps.

Ever since installing the latest version of WE, when ever I am reading or

WE loses focus and goes somewhere else. I have to fish around, especially if I

Why is this? Is there any way to stop

RE: Window-Eyes free edition

2016-11-20 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
The Microsoft license modification isn't necessary, it was only necessary for
8.4.

You need to have office installed and run it once and sign into the account.
Restarting Window-eyes after that should bring it out of demo mode.

Hello Martin. Sky here. I have recently had to deal with this problem for a
client of mine. Here's how we fixed it. I opened up Microsoft word on her
computer. Window-Eyes told us to sign into her office 365 acount. So we signed
into her office 365 acount. Once we did that, Window-Eyes was fully
authorised. Pluss, I enabled the office licence modification setting. To do
this, do the following:

1. Press control and the back slash key to enter the Window-Eyes control panel.

2. Press alt and the letter A to open the apps menu.

3. Press the D key to get into the diagnostics menu.

4. Press the M key to open up the Microsoft office pull down menu

5. Press the down arrow key once to get to Microsoft office licence
modification.

6. Press the enter key to activate the option. At this point, Window-Eyes
will ask you if you want to perform the office modification, followed by a
yes/no prompt.

7. Press alt Y to activate the yes button, and for Window-Eyes to make the
required adjustment.

RE: WE Losing focus

2016-11-20 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
It isn't recommended to use this command if you have a functioning Window-eyes
as files do not properly close.
It is like unplugging your computer and plugging it back in.
If you can, unload Window-eyes properly with control-insert-f4, enter. Then
alt-control-w.

Hi,

1. Make sure the person has actually ran one of the following, word, excel
powerpoint and not just installed office.
2. make sure the person is using Microsoft speech platform, or eSpeak as the
voice. If they chose eloquence, vocalizer expressive or another premium
synthesizer without paying for them, this will turn it into a demo.

3. repair Microsoft office from programs and features. Use the online repair
not the quick one.

One of the above should fix the problem.

To clear up any confusion.
Years ago there was a version of Decaccess that was sold that would work with
multiple products.
This synthesizer has not been sold for a number of years.

If you have the Window-eyes offer for users of Microsoft Office, you can
purchase Dectalk for $25.
If you purchased a new 8.0 or later retail version of Window-eyes you can also
buy Dectalk access for $25 as it wasn't included after that point.

Okay, my Decaccess 32 problem if fixed and now I have control of pitch and tone
settings. Now, in Windows 10 I find the mouse pointer about useless 95 percent
of the time. Reading the current window shift control W never works. In TB,
while composing mail can read current line with control num pad 5, but control
num pad 8 no longer works. Matter a fact, control num pad 5 is the only one
the works. In a list view anywhere in windows can't get shift control S to
work the way it's suppose to, nor can I move by mouse clips, I believe that's
what it called where you hold down the mouse insert key hit number 9 to go
forward, . Insert 4,5, and 6 no long read previous current and next letter

Hi, Rod,
I also was wondering if Aaron Smith was still around.

A few weeks ago i sent Aaron a message regarding a long standing bug in WE but
did not receive a reply. Going on previous emails, this is very much unlike
Aaron so was wondering if he was still around.

The bug, which has been around for a few releases,is where the reading of
columns and headers can not be permantly turned off in the WE Control Panel.

Cheers
Neville.

RE: Unable to Save Default Set File/Window-eyes for Office/9.5.3

2016-10-17 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
Hi,
Unless it was a bad install, you can turn off apps, reboot and then nuke the GW
Micro folder in %appdata%

Window-eyes will rebuild the profile after you reload Window-eyes again.

I solved my problem.

After going into the factory settings dialog, I saw that none of the default
sets were installed and, even after trying to install them, it kept saying na
for the version number. I figured it was just easier to uninstall and reinstall
Window-eyes, rather than trying to do surgery on profiles. This method worked
and I now have a working copy of Window-eyes, working normally.

Subject: What is Jart?

Hello,

Jart is a small Word Pad like Word Processor program. I use it over MS Word,
and find it does everything I need a Word Processor to do.

Has the old style Pull Down menu's that lend themselves for easier use
than those stupid Ribbon menus of the last 10 years.I am sure there
must be some logic to those ribbon menus, but I find them only to make using MS
Word that much more difficult.

I use Jart 5.3, and not the 5.4. I did install the 5.4, but found I could not
use it with my Screen Reader. This may have changed by now, or perhaps there
is some switch in the Jart 5.4 edition I have yet to find.

The Spell Checker works well and is easy.

For the typical Home Writing project, Jart should do everything a person would
need.

MS Office is a Bloated Over Priced package with so many features few would ever
use them at home.

Sorry, personal opinion here.

Now if I could find a nice small Spread Sheet program. Anyone know one that
works with speech, other than Excel?

Hello.

I am currently trying to print a mailing label. I don't think it is printing
correctly. I looked under the font settings and there is a button there which
states that the color is white. Shouldn't it be black if one is printing on
white paper? How do I know what color to choose and can someone tell me what I
should do to make sure the color is actually black on a white sheet of paper?
I looked at something that said black text, but it had numbers after it, and
the numbers changed as I arrowed down. The numbers were things like black text
20, black text 15, etc. Also, what does the automatic button do? Thank you.

Linette,

Just open the Cortana search box with the Windows key and start typing Default.
You'll get Default programs. Press enter and tab down through the buttons for

You can also enter Choose a default browser and that will put you in the same

Subject: WE not speaking in edit box

Hello.

I have run into this problem before, but it usually goes away with restarting
Window-Eyes or in extreme cases, restarting the computer. I have a friend that
can't get Window-Eyes to read her edit box when she presses the F2 key. We
restarted her PC (Windows 7) and I had her select an icon on the desktop. By
pressing the home key and arrowing through, the speech was normal, reading each
character. We went to the folder she wanted to rename files in and did the
same procedure, but there was no speech as long as the F2 key was pressed. I
went through her Window-Eyes settings and could not find anything that would
make the speech silent on the edit box. Am I missing something? Thanks for
your suggestions.

Carol

Hello,

Bought a System yesterday with Windows 7 installed. Was getting it set up and
noticed that at the End of installing Window Eyes 8.3, my only Disk with the
full install of Window Eyes, the install asks me to go On Line to Register.
The System was not hooked up to the Internet, but it caused me to have a
question about the future.

If, and I am say the word, IF, so IF Window Eyes ever becomes no more, and
there is no more support, no more Web Site, no more anything for Window Eyes.
What happens when Window eyes 8.X or 9.X is installed but there is no place to
register it?

Will Window Eyes stop working in 30 days? Go into Demo mode?

Was just wondering.

This new system will eventually go On Line, and I'll re-register Win Eyes after
installing 9.5.

but, what does happen when Window Eyes is not Registered?

You don't need a smart phone or tablet to work with Alexa.
As long as your computer has a wifi connection you can go to alexa.amazon.com

The echo dot is not meant to connect to your computer in any way at all, it's a
stand-alone device that requires you to have a wireless network.
You plug the echo dot into a wall outlet, and then you connect to it with your
smartphone or tablet in the settings screens under wi-fi.

You must have a smart phone or a tablet and the Amazon Alexa app to set up
and control any of the Echo devices. Once the Alexa app is installed, you'll
need to sign in using your Amazon username and password.

It should certainly work. You'll need to tell the Alexa app your location so
it'll find the weather for your location, though so you'll want to do that.
The setup process is completely accessible, no sighted help is necessary at
all, unless you just aren't good with a smart phone or tablet, then you might
need to get some help setting things up. It all depends on your particular
level of skills. I was able to set up my regular echo and the echo dot in
another part of the house without any sighted help, so you can rest easy
knowing it is possible to do.

 I hope all this helps.

What is required is for VFO to say something.

Whilst I respect those who ask us to stop the speculation, they appear to be
missing the evidence.

For example: if a product is basically free, and given that this free product's
code is still protected - will there be on-going development or will the code
be released into the public domain?

Given that there are numerous bugs some of which are long standing - will those
bugs get replaced by other bugs as a new version is released?

Why would anyone - including myself - continue to purchase Window-eyes beynd
Software Maintenance agreements, which at this stage, are looking unlikely to
be honoured?

If VFO was annoyed with this enless speculation, why does it not use a listserv
which it owns to give us some definitive answers to reasonable questions?

I am putting off the moment when I will be forced to agree to use to JFW. But
VFO continues to provide JFW UPDATES, BECAUSE IN TRUTH, vfo IS JUST THE FRONT
FOR THE PREDATORY BEHAVIOURS OF Freedom Scientific.

All I can definitively tell you is this folks, I work full time professionally
as an assistive technology instructor with a blindness agency every day. At a
recent retreat, the thinking throughout the room did most certainly seem to be
that VFO most likely does have plans to quote unquote, kill off, Window-eyes,
either now or in the not too distant future. The question I asked was, why are
we, that is the assistive tech department, going to officially be promoting the
use of NVDA as a free screen reader, and not Window-eyes? My logic being that
Window-eyes can also essentially be free as well. That's when several replies
came back that gave me the distinct impression that Window-eyes'
days may in truth be numbered. I hope that's not the case; I've been a customer
of Gw Micro since the Vocal-eyes days! Anyone here remember those days? Back
when it used to be Jaws for Dos, versus Vocal-eyes? I remember when it used to
be Arkenstone who sold Openbook, not Freedom Scientific. I do feel that Gw
Micro personnel do need to innovate, and do need to perhaps learn new ways of
becoming freshly and aggressively competitive. I certainly hope the shark
doesn't gobble up everybody, yuck!

You would also need sighted assistance to remove webroot as it requires you to

Hi, Donald. I had to wrack my brains for a short time, and then the name of
the program came to me. The program is Called Web Root Security Suite. No, I
do not and will not have the program installed after I recall the issues
Ray Campbel encountered when the program was installed.I'll bet the
program is a good one, but it certainly wreaks havoc with Window-eyes I am
not implying that I have used Web Root Security suite, trust me. .

A few months ago, Ray Campbell cautioned the list members that a particular
antivirus product incorrectly identified some components of Window-eyes as
being a virus. Please tell me the name of that product so my technician can
avoid using that product when cleaning my system.

Thanks.

RE: rocan or ghrome cast

Chromecast is a device that connects to a TV.
You can send programs to it using a tablet, phone or Google Home.
It doesn't speak on its own.

Hi Folks:

Anybody using or has info on rocan or chrome cast.

Both seem to have some input on interfacing with tv and tv guide.

Info is a little weak and perhaps a long shot

Thanks

Don
