[OSM-talk] OSM flyer now in LaTeX, easy to translate
Hi, As a LaTeX and OSM lover, I had to make this OSM flyer in LaTeX, derived from Andy Robinson's English version of Frederik Ramm's original in German (thank you). Here it is in Spanish: http://www.prodevelop.es/descarga/osm/flyer/osm_flyer_spanish.pdf This is all you need to generate it yourself: http://www.prodevelop.es/descarga/osm/flyer/osm_flyer_latex.zip Just unzip and compile osm_flyer.tex with pdflatex. You can translate the file osm_flyer.tex into your language (find the tag START TRANSLATING HERE) with your favorite text editor, and edit the images you don't like (especially bground2.jpg). If you don't know LaTeX, you can send me the text in your language and I will generate the PDF for you. I have used a special LaTeX package for leaflets, so I guess the dotted lines and the margins are ok. Cheers! I have seen a working example of this. With an OSM image capture utility OSM-Map (http://alpo.hassinen.googlepages.com/osm-map) user can not only capture a map from screen to image file but also store the corresponding calibration file either in MapInfo .tab or OziExplorer .map format. Thus the captured images can be used in all GIS software or in OziExplorer. Some tweaking may be needed, for example gdal supports georeferencing with .tab files only for tiff images, and before using images in OziExplorer CE they must first be converted to special Ozi image format with another utility. However, often a georeferenced image is much more that just an image. Or save as jpg with a jgw georeferencing file. Code is in SVN. If you commit something, let me know, and I'll svn up. If you write a patch and can't commit, email the dev list the patch, then let me know (I skim, but tend to notice 'tah' in subjects), and I'll review it. Yes, ESRI style world file would be even better because it is so generally supported. Perhaps it would be good to have a .prj file as well. [OSM-talk] Relations not always brilliant
Relations are a super-powerful tool and permit all kinds of whizziness (cycle routes, bus routes, areas with holes, dual carriageways, etc.). This much we know. On looking through the latest UK planet excerpt, though, I note a handful of cases where they're being used for simple road refs. So there are route relations which have simply been set up to convey ref=A813, etc. Could I 'umbly suggest not doing this unless there's very good reason? In the UK, road numbers are unique (apart from about three cases where local councils have cocked up, e.g. the B4027) and no road can have more than one ref. The relation doesn't give any info over and above that in the standard 'ref' tags - it just increases complexity for both editing and processing. cheers Richard ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/talk

Just thinking of a few examples around the San Francisco Bay area, you could have several interstates running together for a while (I-580 and I-80), or a state highway together with an interstate (CA 12 and I-80) or two or more state highways (CA 12, CA 29, CA 121).
Navigation beispielsweise (show me the way to the next beverages store).
