Re: [talk-ph] Wiki Loves Monuments needs some mapping help
Hi Eugene, Usually, at WaypointsDotPH, we get the coordinates and photos from contributors who have been to the POIs. I was thinking, that if this will be a photo contest, then photographers of uncharted monuments might keep the location information while the contest is going on so others may not find the location and be competitive? Anyway, I have been locating many of these sites lately by using combined panoramio, google earth, wikimapia. Latest ones are some POIs in Cagayan Valley. Most often, I see some of these monuments tagged in panoramio photos that are linked to GE. I visually zoom in and try to zero-in on the monument then I get the coordinates from GE. I then place the coordinates on the WaypointsDotPH database since I believe I have less restrictions in using GE coordinate data than OSM has with GE. If the map area can be seen on Bing (which is OSM-friendly), then I put the POI node on OSM. Visavis, I also extract some POI coordinates from OSM especially those that are already on OSM and I include them on WaypointsDotPH to complete the where it is and how to get there feature of the website. So, basically, as far as monuments and other provincial tourist destinations are concerned, one can say that the data at WaypointsDotPH is a superset. So, if we are after a complete and ordered list, it would help if people submit coordinates to WaypointsDotPH first (especially those that have been geotagged from Google Earth). btw, an example of such a list/map is the Colonial Churches: http://waypoints.ph/categmap.php?cat=OLC ed On Mon, Apr 9, 2012 at 11:49 PM, Eugene Alvin Villar sea...@gmail.comwrote: Hi guys, Wikimedia Philippines has launched the Wiki(pedia) Loves Monuments last March 24. WLM is a photo contest with the aim of creating a body of open and freely-licensed photos of cultural and heritage sites and monuments. WLM started in 2010 in the Netherlands, became a Europe-wide competition in 2011, and in 2012 is now an international competition with 28+ countries around the world participating. The WLM Philippines webpage is here: http://www.wikimedia.ph/wmph/index.php?title=Wiki_Loves_Monuments Anyway, the WLM Philippines project managers asked my help if it is possible to get the coordinates of each site or monument in the site list (which is basically the Philippine Registry of Cultural Property (PRECUP) Built Heritage list provided by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts) which contain 689 sites total. The list is here: http://www.wikimedia.ph/wmph/index.php?title=Wiki_Loves_Monuments/Entry_Sites As you can see, most of the sites only have the town or city as their location. Not all of them have complete addresses and not one of them has any attached coordinates. The additional mapping info would be beneficial so the photographers would know where to find these sites. Unfortunately, I'm sure that OSM does not have all of the information. I estimate that only around 1/3 of these sites are in OSM. I think WaypointsDotPH might fare better but I don't think all of the sites are on WaypointsDotPH too. Do any of you guys have any idea on what's the best way to get the addresses/coordinates of all 689 sites? If needed, Wikimedia Philippines is willing to buy a license from private GIS companies but of course an open/free solution would be best. Anyway, WLM aside, I think putting all of these sites in OSM would be a nice little project for OSMPH. Do people think it's a good idea to have a list somewhere where we can track whether all 689 sites are in OSM and with complete attributes already? Re: [talk-ph] Municipality and barangay boundaries in OSM ph?
Dear Snorre, The original provincial boundaries were based on Namria's 1:250K topographic maps this is very coarse and useful only to provide an overview of the province. At larger scales (or higher zoom levels in webmapping parlance), this is very inaccurate. There is also a free dataset of administrative boundaries (from region to barangay) available at philgis.org [0] which is also the same data from GADM [1]. Based on my personal/anecdotal discussions with several people, this data also came from NAMRIA. This is a very good dataset but we cannot import it in OSM due to the license issues at the same time, we also think that it is also inaccurate at the municipal and brgy level [2]. You are of course welcome to use this data in conjunction with OSM's dataset to compose your maps in any GIS software. The best way to get administrative boundaries is to request these data to the concerned local government unit (provincial and municipality). We can easily import them once explicit permission is secured. [0] http://philgis.org [1] http://www.gadm.org/ [2] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-ph/2011-May/003255.html PS. Re: [talk-ph] Wiki Loves Monuments needs some mapping help
I've tried editing just now and it looks like GoogleDoc approach is better, considering that any newbie can point-and-click on either OSM or Google Map, press permalink, then cut paste the lat long info into the GoogleDocs spreadsheet. The GoogleMap OSM links are auto-generated. Coolness :-) All can see the progress of the project immediately. We can fill-up the address information. Then maybe, we can reinsert the crowd-sourced address data gathered here back to OSM via the available map editors. By then, the unmapped POI's from the list can be hunted down on field by mappers using GPS; then put the 'source' as gps or mapper. We finish the project early... We should have done this a long time a go :-) On Wed, Apr 11, 2012 at 11:23 AM, Ed Garcia eppgar...@gmail.com wrote: Guys, My two centavos worth ... would it not be easier if we just place a special tag on such POIs on OSM (maybe NCCA=yes or some other tag) then harvest them all via OSMosis later? Re: [OSM-legal-talk] Creative-Commons 4.0 (first draft)
Frederik Ramm frederik@... writes: It looks like with the release of CC 4.0 there may be two share-alike licenses suitable for data with different copyleft provisions. CC with a stronger copyleft and ODbL with a weaker one that allows produced works under a non-free license. I don't think it is as simple as that; the requirement to share the derivative database that stands behind a produced work seems to be stronger than what CC does. The way I see it is that there are two ways to play. If you want to be fully open then you distribute your new work in data form so that it is easy for others to build on further. You distribute it as a Derivative Database, and under the exact same terms you received the input data. In that case the licence does not (or should not in my view) put any obstacles in your way. You are giving others exactly the same rights you yourself received, so you can just get on with your work and distribute the result without further hassle. However, for those who don't want to be quite so open, the ODbL has made a concession by allowing the concept of a Produced Work. Your resulting work does not have to be licensed under any particular terms. However, if you want to take advantage of this option, then it is your responsibility to publish the intermediate databases you used. The one thing that CC does allow which ODbL may or may not (depending on the legal definition of 'database') is to make a derived work which is much simpler in structure and publish it under the same terms you received the data, without disclosing anything further. For example, making a human-viewable map image from the computer-readable OSM map. I would argue that this can be done too in the ODbL case, by publishing your map tiles as Derivative Databases under the ODbL, since I've not seen anything to suggest that a raster image file is not also a database in law. But opinion differs on this point. I believe your example of a route planner producing directions is similar here: it is a much simpler work ('turn left, then right') derived from the larger map database. But certainly a set of directions is itself a database, as anyone who programmed LOGO knows. -- Ed Avis e...@waniasset.com ___ legal-talk mailing list legal-talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/legal-talk

Re: [OSM-talk] Imagery parallax error in high altitude areas
It's not as bad as it seems. Imagery is adjusted using an elevation dataset. Since this data doesn't (and shouldn't) include buildings and bridges, these appear distorted. You'll also see problems where recent heavy construction has caused changes in topography. Yes, but every pixel is not corrected. An imagery tile of 1km x 1km would possibly be corrected for the average elevation in the area, but in mountainous terrain, the variation in elevation above and below the average would mean that many parts of the tile that we see are actually slightly offset from the actual position. Is there an accurate source for the coordinates of mountain peaks? We can check how bad the parallax errors are on the satellite imagery. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Re: [OSM-talk] An example photo/video mapping trip
Hi Nikhil. Sounds great, but please be careful at the user interface design. Changes to the map IMHO should be proposed by the plugin, but not applied without dedicated decision of the user. There may (and I fear, will) be too much errors even if your image recognition is good to add street signs automatically. Examples (but not limited): - a street sign may belong to a nearby parallel street, which is not detected by the software accordingly - there may be fake street signs, built up by residents to calm down the traffic. In some areas these are common and not directly illegal, as long as they are different enough to the official ones (while recognition software may fail, e.g. bigger shields with additional stuff around the official sign) - shields may be wrongly oriented by accident/vandalism at intersections, and therefore automatic assignments would fail, while the user can detect that by applying common traffic rules. I'm sure there are additional issues that may occur due to non-perfect (even if good) recognition or wrong signed real world situations. Therefore my suggestion to design the plugin more like a wizard that uses the auto recognition to provide hints to the user, who then can apply that e.g. by a simple button press. regards Peter Am 10.04.2012 15:51, schrieb Nikhil Upadhye: Thanks Paul for sharing files! Hello Peter, Thanks for your inputs. I have considered the possibility of false detection by image processing. Whatever detected by Image processing will be put on user interface of the plugin so that user can quickly access it. Interface will be designed in such a way that only after approval by user tags will be inserted into map. In order to make detection robust and accurate image processing will be done by direct object detection as well as comparing give image with previously known image of the sign/feature which will already be there in plugin. All detected features will be tentatively displayed on map for user to analyze them and will be inserted into final map only after user's permission. -- Nikhil On Tue, Apr 10, 2012 at 8:16 PM, Peter Wendorff wendo...@uni-paderborn.de wrote: Hi Nikhil. I have worked in OCR, Vision,(Sfm) ,Image Processing,Information retreval. OSM data have been used for path finding...with A star algo etc.but it is never used for simulation of traffic. Traffic monitoring and simulation has been worked on for some time now. There are very elaborate systems like MITSIM which gather data from various sources and design a traffic model. But the problem is it is very difficult to implement them. The information about the streets, traffic data, satellite data etc. is difficult to gather. My idea is to design a traffic simulation using OSM data. as the OSM data is readily available and is available in many formats. To model the traffic probabilistic or network flow models are popular. But to get a more accurate simulation want to use multiple vehicles as bots interacting with each other. A basic overview of my idea ... 1) first we need the area where want the simulation to run. This would be done by defining a rectangular region in the map. This data can be stored in posgreSQL which will make it easier to use the data. 2) Next we define for all the bots - source and destination and this find the appropriate path(A star) to go. 3) At the heart of the simulation we need to have a engine which would handle the collision etc. and directs the bots etc. I have tried a few physics engine but their performance degrades steeply decreases with the increase of number of objects. 4) So I want to use my own engine with only few rules for collision etc. The brute for implementation would require to check each bot with other bot ( the same thing which makes other engines slow O(n^2) ). But i plan to use a implementation of KD-tree, ANN(Approximate nearest neighbour) Open source implementation of the same exists and works pretty well. This would allow the matching to be done in O(nlogn). ANN implementation (http://www.cs.umd.edu/~mount/ANN/ http://www.cs.umd.edu/%7Emount/ANN/) 5) To manage the interaction of the bots the memory requirements skyrockets as the number of bots increases. ie why i wish to treat them as Multi-Agent-System There are nice implementations of distributed multi-agent framework which use shared memory to manage the agents( bots in our case). 6) congestions , bottlenecks and collisions can thus be detected. In the streets. 7) Future Works - Once this frameworks is complete data from other sources like the traffic lights flyovers etc.. can be incorporated in the existing system. -- Sourav Dutta 200901068 CSE,UG3 IIIT H ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Re: [OSM-talk] An example photo/video mapping trip
The road signs, max speeds and bus stops don't take long to tag. Take the bus stop in IMG_3429.JPG as an example. http://pnorman.dev.openstreetmap.org/photomapping/example_bus_stop.png is what the area looks like in JOSM, with my car location indicated When quickly going through the image I can easily identify that there is a bus stop here. Seeing that there is a bus stop, I first have to identify where it is. Neglecting GPS error, the bus stop is about 50m away from my car and on the other side of the road. As this bus stop has a shelter I can easily see it on my imagery. If it didn't, I would have to count power poles, look at curves in the road or some other technique to get the precise location. Even if I had no imagery I would want to get the stop on the correct side of the road. Suppose there is no bus_stop in OSM. I then need to add a node to where it is with highway=bus_stop. I then look at the bus stop and see that it has a shelter, bench, is wheelchair accessible, has a waste basket and is operated by TransLink. I then convert these to shelter=yes bench=yes wheelchair=yes amenity=waste_basket operator=TransLink. If the image was high enough quality I would add ref=* but my camera can't make it out from 50m away. To simply create a highway=bus_stop at my position would be wrong. I'm driving on the right side of the road and the bus stop is on the left. Even identifying the bus_stop doesn't help much, that's the easiest part of adding it. Most of the time spent entering the data from this trip would normally be typing out the tagging for POIs and shops. My typical trip involves much less highway travel and much more travel through retail and commercial landuse where I can spend a couple minutes with one picture adding all the shops. The photos were taken 10 seconds apart from a camera mounted in about the middle-right of my car and my GPX track comes from my garmin. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Was würdet ihr empfehlen?

Re: [Talk-it] R: Sovrapposizione sentiero/strada
___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it
[Talk-it] I numeri civici in italia individuano ingressi/cancelli, non edifici
Salve a tutti, ho dubbi su dove/come mettere addr:housenumber. In generale, tengo sempre ben presente l'indicazione presente nella pagina wiki su is_in But as always with OSM, what is stated here on the wiki is not the official way to do things. Re: [Talk-it] I numeri civici in italia individuano ingressi/cancelli, non edifici

In realtà mi sarebbe bastato indicare che from A to B c'è divieto.
Ciao. ___ Talk-it mailing list Talk-it@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-it
