The problems are not in feeds, but in the way you access them. The old rss2mail
used sockets, the new one uses wininet - which allows you transparently use
proxies - it just take the settings from IE. If the access is throw the proxy,
it may require authorization (proxy, not public feed!) and I found on
prorgammer's forum that it is the headache of using wininet.

For me the problem is that I have no proxies on the access line - and I can't
yet reproduce this error (it is necessary to find at least one working).

Seems so. I installed the latest msi build that was posted and I now
have only a single entry in my add/remove programs panel. I then
installed this new executable and things are running just fine here.
I'm happy. :) Congratulations on the diligence being exhibited here.

I apologize if I was unclear, Alexander. What I meant to express is
that - even if this Address Book workaround can largely resolve my
problem - to my thinking it is still just a workaround. When we have a
macro that is supposed to pick out the "First Name", then that macro
should ignore name prefixes. It should not pick up a name prefix like
"Mr." or "Ms." or "Dr." and think of that as a first name. In other
words, the macro should have some predefined exclusions, and users
should also be able to add to the list of exclusions. Then there would
be no need for this address book approach.

I am not a programmer, but I don't understand why this is so
difficult. When the cursor can jump to the end of a string, why can it
not jump to the end of a string plus one position forward? I might be
wrong about this, but I think this was the default behavior in the 1.x
series. I will have to check with a friend that is still using TB
1.62r (quite happily) to confirm this. But, just out of curiosity, why
is it so difficult to make the cursor go forward that little bit
extra... that would save people like me so much trouble?

Slowly, no time to hurry! The assembly of a big multipart message still
fails in .33 and the CPU load as well as the memory consumption is at a
inacceptable high level while assembly is in progress. Anyways, out of

Dear Dick,

D> Please accept my apologies for my ignorance but why should you need a
D> NOD32 plug-in while this AV program already scans the incoming
D> messages from your pop3 server?

The (infamous) Help already explains:

  - Only insecure (non-TLS) connections can be monitored
  - AV software has to check any message passing through its filters
(while The Bat! may check files only they are saved or executed),
thus the process of mail retrieval gets significantly slower,
overall system performance may go down
  - PGP/MIME and S/MIME encrypted messages cannot be checked
  - IMAP connections are not monitored in most cases
  - If a virus was received before the AV software has updated its
database, there is no way to remove the virus from the message
base unless the AV software is familiar with the message base
format (if a message base in encrypted, it is impossible to remove
viruses from there anyway)
  - There can be a problem in AV software when several accounts are
checked simultaneously (in other words, most AV packages only
support one connection at a time).
  - Most AV software requires quite uncomfortable changes to the
configuration of e-mail clients

Hi Maxim and list,

On Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at 21:55:26 GMT +0300 (which was 20:55

valuable points on the subject of "AV fixed but "panel bug"
reappeared":

> It seems that we only need to reapply the fix for the panel bug

Hmmm - just noticed an elderly bug (from august) rising again:

I have incoming filters on a POP3 account which

- redirect the mail to another IMAP account (no local delivery)
- move the mail to a common folder
- copy the mail to another (archiv) common folder (marked as read

This works quite well as long as there are no attachments. Whenever
there are separate attachments to the mail (.jpg, gif, png) this
attachment in the outbox has a size of 0 byte, logfile states 'Could
not export message' and the mail resides in outbox until I delete the
attachment manually.

The same error happened in beta 4, described in
mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (TBBETA) and was squashed
later on (until now).

It does, and in support information it is .30

The panel bug seems to be fixed, I tested it some 20 times with several
accounts and conditions. Good so far and thx for the job you're doing.
About the AV bug I am not sure, I need to get some "oversized" mails so
I can set the focus to another folder and see what will happen. The
sender photos are back, too.

Thank you and have a good sleep, you really have earned it.

Again, the panel bug has never showed here. I tested again, several
times, and I cannot reproduce it. There is no panel bug here--I hope
those who did have it are now not showing it, either.

The AV bug has not appeared here either. But, again, it never did.

Good luck, with other reports coming in. :)

Well, I do want Sygate to tell me when a new application begins to
access the Internet. So in that sense it is not minor.

But, in the sense that I thought RitLabs could fix this quickly, as
well as the discrepancy in v. number between the "Add or Remove

Here in the Central Daylight Time U.S. Time Zone, my computer gives

correct files, because in "Add or Remove Programs" "Support details"
says it is v. 3.01.30.

All is well here. Installed in less than a minute. Launched with no
AV--but nor did I have an AV with .28 or .29 or previous versions
either.

I note as has been reported, that in the directory, TheBat.exe is
numbered .29, and not .30 as in the "Add or Remove Programs" info.

This is minor, right?

Thank you so very much. I have no Preview Pane problems--just checked
with View/Message Auto-view.

I hope that is once again sorted, and very soon. Again, your hard work

Actually not a problem with the server at all. A delete does NOT
unsubscribe. RFCs specify that you can have a non-existing folder in
the subscription list. You can also have folders appearing in the
folder list if it has child folders. The folder itself then becomes a
\NoSelect folder. Now if you issue an unsubscribe, and a delete, and
the folder isn't a parent of another folder, and it still appears,
then yes, I'd be willing to agree that it is a server issue ;)

Same here. The version downloaded this morning has the same size as the

Re: Ritlabs Drops MSI Bomb THen Takes The Weekend Off

2004-10-12 Thread hggdh
Hello Eddie,

Tuesday, October 12, 2004, 12:14:08, you wrote:

EC> Where do you see I'm using v2?
EC> No I where always using v3rc5 now rc7 on a W2kSP3.

Sorry Eddie, I meant Microsoft Installer V2, not TB! V2. You are
 running this (MS Installer):

=== Verbose logging started: 11.10.2004 20:33:07 Build type: SHIP UNICODE
2.00.2600.02  Calling process: C:\WINNT\system32\msiexec.exe ===

This is pretty recent. Mine says 2.00.2600.1183 (which means, *if*
Microlost is indeed using the last number as revision) I am just
about 1181 updates in front of you. If this is true (which I do NOT
know) trying to update the Installer may help. Or not.

I simply HATE MSIs. MS has succeded in creating a monster. And, as
usual, they tied it up with Windows and the AD architecture, so...

Even more, there's scarcely any documentation available for the
Installer, the errors are not documented, and sometimes it screws up
 badly.

A good idea that got out of control.

Ah well. Such is life in the MS lane.

Since you are running W2KSP3, keep on V2 of the Installer.

Additional note: I simply cannot find an Installer with a similar
version number as mine on the Microsoft site. My guess (and this is a
GUESS) is that I got mine because this machine has the MS Platform
SDK installed. And... the file date is 2003, as opposed to the one
you can download from MS (2001). But... who knows?

But, back to your problem. If you are running BayesIt!, and it is not
at version 0.73, it might be a good idea to upgrade it. There are
some steps you might have to perform if you upgrade from 0.71 or
previous, but I do not have the details with me anymore.

Every time I had a high CPU on TB!, I found it was caused by a
 plug-in, not TB! itself.

Here, too. Additionally my memory consumption goes up to 1,4 GB and the
CPU load rises up to 98-99% for long minutes. TB then runs out of memory
and the CPU load goes down to 2-3% overall. Strange side-effect: the
task-manager shows no bet.exe running, but there is a "thebat.exe"
listed in the process-list file. The header-fields are gone, too, and
sometimes (when TB pleases to let me have a look at them) the sender photo
has vanished and shows a white placeholder instead.
When a message is in download progress and I switch to another folder, I
get an AV.

Now I exactly know what Maxim meant by typing:
> We've found a serious AV introduced after the RC7. Could you please
> download the MSI files again from...
> Could you please report the result?
I found it, too -in 3.0.1.29 pro-msi

But occasionally the blank preview window is back again :-( but the

Hover your cursor over the EXE of TB and such info will be revealed.
Or right-click the EXE, choose properties and then the tab Version.

BTW, after having installed with the latest MSI I still get .29, not
.30. And I tried different ways to install (Custom and Repair, with or

The installed version in ARP says 3.0.1.30, the .exe fileversion says
3.0.1.29; may be you (all developers) should decide for _only_one_ Version

For sure. IIRC, other programs just leave such files and directories;
they only remove what the MSI install log shows to be installed

Sorry I just now downloaded the new TB!pro but it still tells me "8.
October 2004, 20:14.42". The download was made at
http://www.ritlabs.com/download/the_bat/beta/msi/thebat_professional.msi

I'm wondering why some get the proper files and some not.

Further I really anoid when I must download from rit the files. It
takes me 1 hour - yes "ONE" hour. Whenever I download other things
from other places it goes like a charm. Even downloading BI (that is

Yes the installation ends properly. But I got this high CPU after I

Since then, what ever I do what ever version I'm using, the CPU wont

When you click on the "support information" link in the add/remove programs
control panel you'll get the precise version number. When you move your
mouse over thebat.exe in Windows Explorer and let it remain there for a
short moment, a tooltip (the yellowish window fella) will pop-up, it
contains the version number of the executable. Alternatively, you can
right-click the executable, select properties, there's a "version" tab,
too.

Yep

My install now says 3.0.1.29 (not .28) in the control panel. I'm using the
home edition. I'm using "MyMacros" and "Gajin's Macros" - no problems (the
tagline below my sig would not work without the two Macro plugin packs'
additional macros).

TB! starts fine, no AVs, everything fine (as far as the eye can see *g*).
