Hello Vili,

The log file was created with RegMon from
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html which monitors the
registry of Windows. The log was NOT created by Windows. Sysinternals
has provided HIGHLY respected utilities to the market for years.

Per the web site on RegMon:

,- [ Quote per http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html ]
| Regmon is a Registry monitoring utility that will show you which
| applications are accessing your Registry, which keys they are
| accessing, and the Registry data that they are reading and writing -
| all in real-time. This advanced utility takes you one step beyond what
| static Registry tools can do, to let you see and understand exactly
| how programs use the Registry. With static tools you might be able to
| see what Registry values and keys changed. With Regmon you'll see how
| the values and keys changed..
`-

In addition you have the ability to filter what you monitor. When I
created the Log file I was filtering on 'thebat.exe'. Since I realized
that TB Beta was changing the registry, I wanted to monitor what was
being changed, hence the filter on 'thebat.exe'. After looking into
the log I decided to look at the specifics of 'Request' changes in the
Registry. The criteria I used was "CreateKey" Or "DeleteValueKey" Or
"SetValue".

Since I didn't provide the headers originally, I have done so below on
the first line in the quote box.

Confirmed!

In my AB reply template for TBBETA I use a QT which has the following:

%SetHeader("X-No-Archive","yes")%SetHeader("X-Archive","expiry=0")%SetHeader("X-Rogue",":GW:")

None of the headers are set by this beta.

I've analyzed the registry requests for TB beta v3.63.13. Either I
missed something or there are new reqistry requests in the new beta
versions that were not included in the 3.62.14 or 3.0.2.10 versions.
More specifically these 'CreateKey' and 'SetValue' request are outside
the typical 'RIT' or 'Mail' path.

Why are there new 'CreateKey' and 'SetValue' requests outside the
typical 'RIT' or 'Mail' paths as per the detail below?

Well you got me to thinking because of same version OS & TB. So I
checked whether OS is up to date. After 7 critical updates all for
June 05, I ran folder maintenance again. On re-run after OS critical
updates I still received the message. I noticed the message is ONLY
received on IMAP folders.

Do you run any IMAP accounts?

I have IMAP accounts at MRB & FM. So unless someone can say otherwise
it appears this problem is an IMAP problem. At least for me.

When I first starting using TB I hated MicroEd. In fact I was ready
to give TB the heave ho. One of the reasons was the two spaces after a
sentence when using Alt-L. Now when I use another editor in email I
miss MicroEd, and have learned to accept this deficiency for all of
the other benefits that I've grown accustomed too.

I guess it comes down to the user's acceptable behavior of an email's
editor. At first I didn't like the hard returns. After using TB with
learning software language and copying and pasting code, I'll take
MicroEd's deficiencies in the editor over any other email program that
I've used. Either I didn't take the time to learn their full
capabilities, or I simply do NOT know of any other program where I can
rest assured that the email that I send is exactly what the recipient
will see.

To each their own. :-)

You must have a concern which relates to the current version as it

Well I have pretty much everything from when I first started on TBBETA
which looks like 6/2002. There were a few glitches in my email along
the way, so a few missing pieces. You are looking at over 43,200
messages at about 174 MB per TBB file. HUGE! Using 7-zip with ultra
compression using zip format it is over 35 MB. I don't think my email
through my ISP will handle and I don't rent web space anymore. I do
have web space through my ISP but believe it is max of 10 MB per
account. I'll have to see what I can do.

Sorry haven't been keeping up with the list, but has threading by
references / subject been fixed or option been provided?

see mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

see mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I didn't see it on your list with a quick check. FWIW I think
threading CORRECTLY is very important. I also think being able to
thread by subject is important because IIRC some lists do NOT provide
references in the email headers. Threading by subject provides a
viable alternative in these situations. I also think correcting thread
manually is important and don't believe it has been done correctly
with new feature in TB. This is discussed in 2nd mid quoted above.

Why do I think it is important. Well I use to have good threading &
manual correction with my old email client VA. I know you all may be
sick of myself and Miguel bringing this up. To be honest in some ways
VA set the standard for me, so for me in certain regards I DO measure
TB against VA. I quit using VA over 3 years ago, and switched to TB
because development ceased.

I like it to be done RIGHT otherwise do NOT do it at all. This goes
for IMAP as well. I'm not a big IMAP user, but can empathize with
those who are.

My $.02 worth.

With TB the only app running besides my AV, FW, & AT if I shut down TB

Hmmm! After correcting my issue with 'tbuser.def' and 'batlogo.xml' by
renaming them and re-installing v16 everything has been working fine
with a few noted exceptions. The most notable exception being QT
shortcuts don't work.

> I've found a place to verify some settings in Sygate--that it's my
> current .exe and that the ports are smtp 25 and pop3 110.

It may be simply be your settings in Sygate. Kerio 2.1.5 is rule based.
It lets applications have access via protocol/IP/port. It keeps track
of the applications by MD5 values. If your setting are such that
Sygate will NOT notify you when something changes or a new application
is sort of knocking at the door, then your settings are the problem
and have to be changed. You would have this problem with any similar
firewall.

> This is a test to see if that helped. If not, I'm off to get Kerio.

Just so you know I used an old version of Kerio. Like I said it is
rule based and lacks many of the current bells and whistles. It has
worked flawlessly for me, and believe it is still available free for
personal use. However you still have to understand the rules. What is
good for me may not be good for someone else.

I'm just taking an educated guess. I've had weird problems in the past
with my previous firewall ZoneAlarm. I moved on to Kerio 2.1.5 and have
been there ever since. I've also heard of problems with anti-virus
depending on how the AV program works with email. Since I use neither
your FW or AV, I suggest a test.

Since you use TB and are behind a router you are fairly safe already. I
suggest as a test to turn off both your FW & AV completely, then see if
you can receive email. If you can receive, then turn one on, and leave
the other off for further testing. This should help you narrow the
problem down if you are able to receive with both AV & FW off.

Re: 3.0.9.16 new-/non-/fixed issues

2005-04-16 Thread Greg Strong
> Message Finder Folders tab: 'Look in' is not working

Confirmed! The default for 'Look in' is selected folders. If you
unselect all folders and change 'Look in' to 'all accounts' or 'current
account' you would expect the search to encompass folders in the
respective selection, however my search comes up empty so definitely not
working. You might suspect all the applicable folders to be selected
when choosing either 'current account' or 'all accounts', but this is
not the case.

Not confirmed! Working properly because the new message has reply to
message 1 in single window (i.e. View Folder).

I was having nothing but problems. I first deleted tbuser.def file and
that didn't fix problem with starting TB v16. I then renamed batlogo.xml
file to old_batlogo.old_xml and left tbuser.def file not knowing I
missed 9val's message.

I was able to start v16, but had nothing but problems. After renaming

Seems some of us are having nothing but problems here, and others it is
not the case with this version of TB Beta. Hmmm!

What OS and version are you using? As a suggestion you could add a
separate template to your AB for [EMAIL PROTECTED] This way it
would help developers know where problems are occurring and potentially
help them correct the problem.

As a suggestion just take your regular new and reply templates and add

FWIW I tried disabling plugins for AVG and BayesIT. Still can't open.
I don't know if it will help but the text file referred to in the error
report is attached.

I have AVG 7 free installed so I left the following checked:

- check incoming mail for viruses

- check attachments for viruses before opening them from TB!

- check attachments before the user saves them to disk

- check outgoing mail for viruses

...

I can't send email nor can I save the message in the outbox. I get the
following error:

,- [ error on Ctrl+Enter or click 'put message in the outbox' or F2 ]
| ---
| Edit Mail Message -> 9Val

After un-checking options I can send this email, however I'm up the
proverbial creek without a paddle and MUST revert to v3.0.9.13. :-(

Yes it can be found in the 'Edit Mail Message' window, and the 'View
Folder' window. When I look from the main window with 'Full Height
Account Tree' I see View | Toolbars | **Unknown**

> Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I looked at this feature a few betas ago and the general response was
the code was not complete. Given the **Unknown** menu I'm not sure how
much has changed. I do know they added shortcuts on the options tab of
the QT's. So without giving it a play you may now have 2 places for
shortcuts to be created.

IIRC there use to be 1 place to look for conflicts. So if a shortcut
doesn't work, then where do I find out if there is a conflict between
shortcuts?

I just added a shortcut to a QT that doesn't work. Could be a
conflict, or maybe I have to shut TB down and re-start. I don't know.

Just thinking out loud, and adding my $.02 worth.

Confirmed

Not confirmed.

From the main window with a 'Full Account Tree' selected I have noticed
the text for the 'Headers' menu under View is missing, and by selecting
or un-selecting a header does not work. However if I right click on the
header pane from the main window with a 'Full Account Tree' selected
that I can change the headers viewed. Also from the 'Edit Mail Message'
I can View | select new header and use the scroll bar to see it in the
header area.

I confirmed my memory in v3.0.2.10.

Cntl+] works when either the message list or message has the focus. I am
sure this is how it worked in previous versions for as long as I can
remember.

FWIW I notice this when I report to SpamCop. I open my SpamCop folder
and click on reporting link. With current beta I have to tab to the
message list in order to move to the next message with Cntl+].

Cntl+] works from folder view when message list pane has focus,
however when the actual message has the focus then Ctrl+] does NOT

Yes and no. F4 seems to work from main window, BUT!!!
