Hi Jernej,

 http://www.ritlabs.com/download/files3/the_bat/a-5/tb500126.rar

Moving my mouse over the message list gives me preview window in the
bottom-left corner of my secondary monitor for some reason. Slightly
 annoying and totally useless.

Just realized that there is a new option for the hints that is called
'Coner' (sic!) and that it seems to be the default for .127 as I
turned hints off.

is restarted).

What's wrong with classic Windows tooltips, which are:
- small
- unintrusive
- don't steal mouse focus
- disappear as soon as you move the mouse away

These new hints in TB are anything but that. I know that somebody
thought they were a great idea, but the way they're currently
implemented they are a serious annoyance - they cover way too much
text, they don't disappear when the mouse leaves the area that
triggered them, and worst of all, if I happen to move my mouse over
the hint and then try to scroll with my mouse wheel, the text in the
hint will be scrolled instead of the window it's covering.

These hints are a usability nightmare, and if they stay in like this
in the final version I will have to look for another e-mail client
(yes, they're annoying enough that they destroy all of the advantages
TB has).

I think the same as you. They're in beta status yet, and they should
be modified a bit.

The problem you say aabout they do not hide when the mouse it's no on
it could be changed on the options but the 50pixels of distance to the
mouse cannot be lowered to 10 pixels or other value we should want to
put there.

I think they're cool for folders, attachments and other things but not
for message list. I would like to disable they for the message

I writed to the BT one bug related to the reflowing of text if we

The only reason I'm tolerating this is because this is a beta - I will
not tolerate them in the current form in a final version.

The problem you say aabout they do not hide when the mouse it's no on

mouse cannot be lowered to 10 pixels or other value we should want to

In general I'm all for different configuration options, but these
hints really need one single checkbox:

[x] Behave like OS native tooltips

50 pixels is way too much - the distance must be set to 0 pixels (the
moment the mouse leaves the element that triggered the hint it must
disappear unless the mouse moved to another element that triggers a
hint - in this case, the old hint must disappear and a new one must
appear immediately; if the mouse pointer moves over the hint, the hint
should move away, though this behaviour isn't as important as the
other two I mentioned, and it also appears that VCL's native hints
don't implement it).

I think they're cool for folders, attachments and other things but not
for message list. I would like to disable they for the message
list because if I want to see the message I will click on it.

They would be fine there, assuming they would behave the same like the
rest of (Windows') tooltips - disappear immediately when the mouse
leaves the element that triggered them.

MM The Bat! 5.0.0.126 BETA is available at
MM http://www.ritlabs.com/download/files3/the_bat/a-5/tb500126.rar

SC Should Purge and Compress not act like Compress alone and remove deleted
SC messages. I would thing Purge and Compress would do more than Compress, not
SC less.

Should be Purge and Compact.

ZW Yes, I can confirm quite unusual and unpredictable display of hints. I
ZW do not know what the option On request will do. After restart I see
ZW no difference. In corner display is unusable for me. Near mouse
ZW makes the hint window visible in very small size, and it expands when
ZW the mouse is moved.

Also when you first hover and get a hint it is small, but complete. If you
expand it truncates the message.

Still getting the access violation if I 'arrow key' up and down
though the folder list. The message is:

Access violation at address 00A50C39 in module 'thebat.exe'. Read
of address .

It does not happen as often or as 'easily' as it did in the .125
version, so that is =some= improvement.

SC Should be Purge and Compact.

'Purge an compact' does more than 'Compact'. 'Compact' removes deleted
messages from the message base, 'Purge and compact' deletes messages
that exceed the maximum age or the maximum allowed number of messages
and then compacts the folder.

Why do think that 'Purge and compact' does less than 'Compact'?

In an IMAP folder if you have deleted messages, when you compact the folder
they
are removed. If you Purge and Compact them they are not removed. Try it by
turning on Folder/Browse Deleted Messages and you will see any messages that
have been deleted with a stick through them. Then try Purging, and then try
compacting.

For my previous reply I had tested it for a POP3 account, but now I
tested it for an IMAP account (Inbox for my GMail account) and 'Purge
and compact' still works as advertised.
Only odd thing is that when TB is compacting only in stead of tellig
me how much space has been saved, it tells me that there's nothing to
compact. Somewhat confusing.

I think I see the problem. It was a combination of settings in the Account
properties and testing using the Trash account. Purging does not seem to affect
deleted messages in this account, but Compact does. And yes the message saying
nothing has been done is confusing.

yes, that message makes no sense, and gives one concern nothing
happened, when in fact the deleted messages have been removed.
