Re: Error message when starting TheBat!
Hello Cees, > I have absolutely no idea where to look for those index files and what they > are called. - Find out where your Message Base (Mail directory) is located. Look in Options/Preferences/System. - Using Windows Explorer look into the Mail Directory, you should have a folder per each of the accounts you use plus a few others. - Inside the Account folder, you should see the folders you see in TB folder tree. - Each of these folders should include two files. One is called MESSAGES.TBB and that contains the actual messages. And a MESSAGES.TBN index file. Any other files will probably be old Index files. Feel free to delete them. If you happen to delete the .TBN file, don't worry. The proper actual index file will be rebuilt next time you start TB. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Urech (Zarzalejo (Madrid) - Spain) Using The Bat! Hello, In some cases updating/removing AntispamSniper and/or disabling Windows Defender in Windows 10 1803 did allow The Bat! to start and send/receive mail. Would anyone confirm that turning off the "Real-time protection" in Windows Defender makes the difference when The Bat! reports it cannot connect to servers? That's the way it goes with MS. Some good versions, some not so. DOS 3 & 5 good DOS 4 bad The first decent Windows version was XP, the next was 7, then 10. Same with updates, I suspect. I have two Windows partitions on this computer, both Win 10. Update 1709 won't install on one, Spring update won't install on the other. I get to 81% complete, then hang. Updating from Win 7 to 10 had exactly the same problem. I solved that one by installing 10 from a dvd. Of course my AMD 6 core cpu is now approaching dinosaurhood. I refuse to replace hardware that works just fine. Hello Roelof, What version of TB are you using? What plug-ins? Are you using the same template for all of your accounts? Does the problem occur when you're replying to a single person too? I use the newest TB Beta, but it also affects the latest V5 MSI (and I actually later found forum messages as old as 2005, with no useful answer). I use Antispam Sniper, but also tried to deactivate it - no change. What do you mean by template? Mail template? I use none. The problem occurs in ANY mail, even the simplest, I try to send since today. I have developed a hypothesis: - today, I tried to download mails from a quite flawed POP3 server. - after that I get this error, no matter what I uninstall, reinstall or delete, the one thing that remains constant is the message base - is there a chance that te flawed server sent *something* (like a syntactically completely wicked sender, recipient address etc) and this address got recorded in some of TBs central account files so that any attempt to use this file ends with an error, ultimately leading to this message? Something like the address book or address history comes to my mind. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any file that had been changed today and seemed to contain addresses. RITLabs - could you maybe please shed some light on when TheBat! displays such a message i the first row? What is it checking? Is the check based on any msgbase files that get modified by downloaded messages? -- Thank you, best regards, Viktor Current beta is 5.0.22.12 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello mse, Thursday, June 23, 2011, 3:26:56 PM, you wrote: Hello all, can anyone confirm the error and the new entry in thebat_exceptions when performing Refilter-action on a virtual folder? https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=8781 Best regards, mse Confirmed. However, I'm not sure it makes sense to re-filter a virtual folder as it is the result of 'live' filtering. (if only) I suspect you tried that to see if virtual folder would refresh as I have done. I have given up trying to refresh them as nothing seems to do it. A restart would sometimes do it but not lately. They are now more unreliable then ever. I use them to filter out important messages from a stream of logging messages and I've missed a couple because the filtering did not work. I have found the clearing the cache on the source folder will force the virtual folders to update as the cache is refilled. It's quite laborious when BT has to download 70,000 message yet again. -- Best regards, Tonymailto:t...@parkinch.co.uk The Bat! 5.0.14 Current beta is 5.0.14.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

If you minimize to tray and shut AN down windows without closing the Bat, your data will be lost possibly. So far I have never lost any data, but because of the shut down problem I normally close TB before shutting down. Re: Error List index out of bounds (-1) in exceptions log
Hello Marek, Hello, no error message appeared in program, I have discovered this error directly in exceptions log. If I remember right, I have refreshed virtual folder in this time, but can not be sure, if it is reated to this error. I just refreshed a virtual folder and got a similar entry in thebat_exceptions. No message in the program occured. However not every virtual folder produces such an entry. Others work fine. Re: Error sending HTML attachment to external application
Hello Peter, and also to Jon, Hendrik and Jens, RP On clicking on an HTML attachment, and then clicking to get the external RP application (Opera) to open it, I got the AV in the attached .gif file. RP Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks to all of you for replying. I tried using Opera, Firefox and IE with the same kind of AV every time and after much research with different versions of TB concluded that the problem was not really related to TB. When I tried opening an HTML file from 'My Documents' a window popped up to say that No application assigned to this type of file, even though it had an Opera icon attached! I then went through the usual procedure to assign Opera as the application To always be used to open files of this type and voilà, the TB AV problem has disappeared. Thanks again for your replies. -- Best regards, Roger :flag-southafrica: The Bat! v4.0.20.2 POP3 with AntiSpamSniper 2.8.1.1, on Windows XP, version 5 1, build 2600 and Service Pack 2 Current beta is 4.0.20.2 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I reported in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] that I've seen the same thing, but Alexander pointed out that it may be related to Firefox itself and not The Bat!. I believe he's right, and I think I can demonstrate it. Try this. Create a shortcut on your desktop to a web page. Make sure Firefox is *not* open, as this is a necessary condition. Click the shortcut to open the web page to which it points. The error is generated. (See attached.) I can reproduce this every time and The Bat! is *not* involved, so I conclude the error is being thrown by Firefox, not by any of the recent betas. Discovery re: Error Message
Hi Everyone, I just discovered something when, as a test, I removed TB Pro 3.95.08 (I am a registered Home version user and of course About revealed that, as it should) and reinstalled TB Home 3.95.06. The error messages that I have been getting for some days about Cannot build an index of a message base disappeared. I cannot explain this but must report it in case it could be helpful to someone. At times (using .08 Pro), I'd get the error message and at times I could get rid of it, as posted earlier. But it kept reappearing. I couldn't determine which folders caused the error (I checked by using the maintenance center). Sometimes the error message would appear when starting TB and sometimes it would appear when exiting. FYI, I have two pop accounts (gmail and yahoo) and one IMAP (aol), and as best I can determine through running the maintenance center many times, in various folder sets, the errors all seemed to be tied to the gmail account folders and subfolders, some of which have 0 messages (could that cause the error, since there are no messages to index?). So for now, I am sticking with the home version (3.95.06). Is the .08 beta available for the home version yet? If it was posted, would someone please re-post it? Thanks. -- Take care, Bob mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me. This is our function, our challenge, our fulfillment - to accept, enjoy and share. I couldn't determine which folders caused the error (I checked by using the maintenance center). Sometimes the error message would appear when starting TB and sometimes it would appear when exiting. I had an issue where all my mail disappeared. Removing the index files didn't help. I ended up renaming the Bats main message folder and letting it create a new one as it opened. I kept closing it and dragging groups of email folders. I would reopen and they would be there! And so forth until I got down to one bad folder - and I believe I was able to salvage the messages from that (I forget really - I may have just deleted it as not so important.
