Could you elaborate on what the size descriptions in the MSI installer
are supposed to stand for?

Mine said Help file 0 Kb, Tips 0 Kb - although they were to be
installed. TB core files we 8,5 MB or something like that...

So are the sizes what is added to the current installation or the total
sizes (I did custom install) - because I these numbers do not make sense

Install and program runs fine, withe exception of the fact that the
installer selects the incorrect directory:

- TheBat is installed in c:\Program Files\The Bat!\
- Email storage is on H:\Thebat (so I can access it from multiple machines)
- MSI selects H:\Thebat as the installation folder. I have to choose
'Custom' and change the folder to get it in my local folder.

Doesn't install at all. Tried both home and pro package. During removing
previous version it seems to have troubles finding it (or something else),
anyway it says that package I'm trying to install is on an unavailable
network volume and requests me to show where the file is. By default it
displays the path to the place where previous msi files are, I then point it
to new MSI file, but then install says that this is not a valid installation
package. If I just point to a directory, not the whole MSI file, it searches
for thebat.msi, but fails to find it. So I can only cancel it, and finally
it says that previous version of TB could not be removed.

Well, since I am in a mellow mood tonight ...

I found over the course of my life (according to statistics I am not
quite half through but did considerable progress the last years) that
it is much more efficient - apart from nice and other rather morally
loaded terms - to thank people than to slam them. Regardless if it is
individuals or companies.

Stefan, Val and Maxim did thank the beta testers, in the past and in
the current beta cycle. Why not show a bit of gratitude towards a
small business trying to provide us with a still unsurpassed product.
Unsurpassed at least for those using it.

As to perspective, are we sure it's Mary, Dennis, me and lots of

Most all the beta testers on this forum are customers of RitLabs,
as well. When they offer opinions as to bugs or feature
additions, they can't help but influence RitLabs.

While, from time to time, we differ with each other, all of us,
at the end of the day, are looking for one element: the
improvement of one product. Under normal circumstances it's a
symbiotic relationship.

I surmise that someone entering this discourse, with the sole
intent to denigrate the established relationship is doing so
with a separate agenda, especially if they prove, by actions and
testimony that they neither proffer working towards the common
goal or _buying into_ ownership--and, yes, the pun is intended.

The contributions on this list have been immeasurable over the
past years and we've seen a change in the working relationship
between beta testers and RitLabs in the recent past, due to
specific constructive comments hereon.

I'll say no more about this matter except to offer my respect to
both the developers and testers for what they've accomplished to
date.

Best,
Dennis

Ah well. Mary, please do not waste your time with trolls. You have

Another thing the computer masters tend to forget is that their

normal people. You may, or may not, have what you thought you needed
on computer skills, but you certainly know what you want/need/do not

Hello Krzysztof,

Okay, so apparently TB's install was trying to remove the previous version
of TB, and was looking a MSI file of that older version in a folder from
where I installed it previously. And since that folder and file no longer
existed I has a message that the file was not found that that 3.0.1.33 MSI
is a wrong one.

Now I cleaned my registry from all occurrences of this path and cleaned my
ARP and 3.0.1.33 installed just fine. I tend to blame RC6 MSI's for that,
but we shall see that for sure when next MSI's are made.

With all due respect I would like to point out some details here:

1. Microlost Installer sucks.
2. MSI installs have an uncanny ability of blowing up.
3. There many, many, different ways an install can go wrong. No
developer can test them all. Not even Microlost can.
4. the (in)famous Microsoft Installer Clean Up utility was written by
MS so that absolutely blotched MSOffice installs could be cleared out
of the system *WITHOUT* a full format reinstall of Windows itself.
5. having more than one entry in the ARP is no big deal. I am not
saying it is good, or even correct -- just saying it is no big deal.
6. No one is REQUIRED to upgrade. I myself have, many times, held on
to an older release of a product because I did not like/trust/whatever
the newer versions. But, eventually, one either upgrades, or leaves
aside the product.

and, on a personal note:

7. You came in way too strong and, what is worse, your note sounded
like a personal attack -- ergo, troll.
8. finally, I am not sure the TB! beta testers got what they deserve.
But, it seems, we are stuck with you :-).
9. If one does not like a feature (or absence of one) in a product,
there are better ways of getting it there. Amazingly all of them
usually start with being nice and providing reasons. You note
lacked both.

Now, for a very old saying: when you enter a city, abide by it's
laws.

Don't you feel quite alone in your thoughts and conclusions?

And yes, this experience has 1) annoyed me,

Maybe because you don't understand what this is all about.

 2) strengthened my intention to avoid version 3, at least for the time

You simply don't understand what your are missing. And that strengthens
my opinion that you don't understand what this is all about.

 3) opened my eyes to the fact that The Beta! Testers get exactly

Yes, we get the overall best e-mail package you can find out there.

That's the second time you tell me I don't understand
something. I am beginning to get curious. What is it I am
missing?

And that strengthens my opinion that you don't understand
what this is all about.

And this is the third time. The tension is becoming almost
unbearable. But I'm sure you will put me out of my misery very

On the other hand I suspect it could very well be no more than
just this clincher you accuse me of not understanding.
