Monday, December 13, 1999

Hello
I want to make mailboxes with sub boxes etc and do this by moving them
by mouse.
What are the consequences on filters and other things pointing to
mailboxes where they are NOW???
I presume they have to be all redone??
I like to know before I start how big the exercise/mess-up will be

Best regards,

tracer

Re[5]: Filtering Parked messages

1999-12-12 Thread tracer

Hello Thomas,

Monday, Monday, December 13, 1999, you wrote:

because like this morning I I was disconnected 5 times and a lot of
mail had already been filtered into various boxes but as the stuff
isnt really deleted after download the BAT happily gets it again so
there is a second / third etc copy.
As I read some of my mail while newsgroups/mail/ftp are running its
very frustratting after all the mail finally is there to have to get
rid of dupes in maybe 30 folders one by one.
PLUS if I start answerering the mail some I already saw and DID
answer and I donot always remember that...
Ok, obviously the bat should really delete whats downloaded so these
damned duplicates donot get produced but getting them I like to have a
thing named called delete ALL duplicates or at least doing it on
highlighted mailboxes.
I donot mind the shift+ mousclicks to point to boxes to have
duplicates removed
If necessary(g)

That may be. So, how about this: when you hit the Cancel button, the
current purge will still be performed and the "cancel" effective right
after?

Re[2]: kill filters inquiry

Hello Roel and Bat Buddies,

> the '20' is 32 in hex...
> alt-32 is: 'space' :-)

Hmmm. Okay, I suppose that makes sense, but not all of this does yet.
Let me give a more complex example. I have a filter for the DALnet
mailing list, parameters as follows:

Strings:
  Dalnet|Outage - location subject - presence yes
evilday - location sender - presence no
screwyluie - location sender - presence no

Notice I've got two "presence no" in this one. When I drag this filter
into Kill filters, it becomes:

Detect by:
  Originator
Signal Strings:
  20Dalnet|Outage
  01evilday
  01ScReWyLuiE

Is 01 a "not" parameter for kill filters?

But it will. Each favorite has it's own template set. The other
favorite you selected most likely has it's own specific templates
active.

If you understand what's happening, then it won't be so frustrating.
You seem to have created templates for a number of your address book
recipients and there's a tug-of-war going on when you create messages
to these recipients via folders rather than the address book. If you
wish to discuss it some more privately, I'm willing to go at it with
you. :)

> In retrospect, I have to question why there would be folder templates
> AND address book templates anyway. Seems redundant.

Folder templates will work with any message which resides in that
folder or any message created with that folder in focus. Address book
templates may be made specific to each *entry* in the address book or
specific to each designated address groups. Hardly a redundant setup
but instead provides increased flexibility. The possibilities are
pretty amazing. :)

Goody, goody. :) That's like a macro creation facility. I've been
using 'AIM keys' to do some things like change alt+ up/down to single
key functions, CTRL+Up/Down to the U and D, etc, but it operates less
than perfectly. I'll welcome this intrinsic customization support.

Those keyboard shortcuts provide a cursor independent scroll function.
If all the message text can be seen in the editor window then there's

Alas, this didn't work. Not only did I deselect the 'use a specific
template for new messages' option, I even erased the entire address
book 'new message' template for that recipient. It still showed up if
that folder was highlighted and I clicked on some other 'favorite'. I

Hello Ali,

That depends on how the shortcut-settings will be made:
if they do it like MsOffice: you can 'create' a shortcut:
they just give you a list of all possible actions you can do & you can
assign a key to it if you want...

that would be more user-friendly:
everybody can make use of the keyboard as they see fit...

I just had a look at Alcoholics Anonymous website. They are a bunch
of serious people helping other people with a serious problem. I have
also learned a bundle about AA and think they are doing a good thing.

The willingness to be cured is one of the basic requirements, and we
are quite different - I think we shouldn't be using a variation of
their name. Instead, I propose E-mailaholics International. It also

Parked message cannot be deleted, not even automatically during "Kill

Another thing is a "Kill Dupes" command not only for the active

Thanks much! If you don't mind, I have yet another quick question...
I have an incoming filter setup that will automatically forward an
email to a bunch of people in a group. So in the Action tab, I have
the "Forward to" box checked and then I clicked on the address book to
paste addresses. However, it seems like I have to use the arrow to
copy all the addresses from my group over to the TO: section. It
works fine, but then if I add someone to the group, I have to open the
incoming filter again, erase the addresses and then paste them again
from the address book.

Is there a way that I can just enter the group name in the "Forward
to" section instead of pasting all of the addresses? If so, does it
have to be formatted a certain way for it to be recognized as a group?

Take care,

I think I better clarify this.
1. I think its a feature, reason being that one tries to move a parked
message. BUT it results in multiple copies if filters are applied
manually, especially if its done several times.
2. Removing duplicated messages over all my accounts/folders in one
go: per folder only obviously. I donot want it to zap duplicates in
different folders as they may be there for a reason. But I WOULD like
all my duplicates PER folder to be removed in all folders to be
removed in one go

If there is no shortcut for something, you can't set own.
You'll be able to configure -> You'll be able to change
existing   shortcuts   (e.g.  Ctrl+M  ->  Ctrl+K),  but  not
(nothing -> Ctrl+P)

Recieving messages

1999-12-12 Thread Januk Aggarwal

Hello,

I am running The Bat! version 1.38e, and I noticed that if I open
Netscape Communicator v.4.5 before The Bat!, then the Bat doesn't
log off my mail server. What this means is that I download all my
messages, then the Bat is supposed to erase them from the server.
But instead, it says it has deleted them, however, when I check my
mail anytime later, then I get the same messages downloading again.
Normally everything works fine, but the only change in the system I
can think of is that whenever this occurs, Netscape was always
started BEFORE the BAT, and the two were running simultaneously.
If I open the BAT then Netscape everything works fine. Is this a
bug that others are noticing too? I'm running Win98.

Thanks,
 Januk

I will second the need of a Linux port for the Bat! If we had a good
port to Linux, I would not have much need to be working in NT.

That's another thing that makes that problem even more irritating.
Duplicate messages that are parked will not be deleted by the 'kill
dupes utility. You have to unpark the duplicates and then go.

Hi Paula,

PF> But, are any of these Linux users willing to pay for an application?

Yes, I think there would be , I for one would pay for a decent e-mail
app which works under Linux. There are a lot of new Linux users who
boot straight into the GUI and cannot cope with Sendmail/Fetchmail ,
they would be the ideal market for a Linux TB! Now Corel and Caldera
are targeting the desktop market it would be the ideal time to
establish a quality, easy to set up application.

Go into any folder nominated to use the default column settings and
change the width / sort order / layout as required. These changes will
be applied to all folders in the account which have this option set.
