There're a few other things you may try before re-creating the index
file (.tbi) per Januk's instruction:

1. Go to the folder, and check deleted messages (from the menu
"Folder | Browse deleted messages"). If they're there, they were
accidentally deleted. You may move all or some of them back by using
drag-n-drop.

2. Do a global search for a message that you're sure to be in that
folder, and see if it turns up elsewhere. They might have been moved
accidentally.

The re-indexing trick as Januk suggested is quick and effective, but
please be reminded it has a couple of side effects:

1. All messages you intentionally deleted or moved to other folders
*after* you last compress the folder would re-emerge. It's because
TB physically removes deleted messages only when compressing a
folder (that's why you may undelete even if they're gone from the
trash folder). Before that, TB marks a message as deleted in the
index file, and such marking would be lost when the index is
re-created.

2. All other message annotations kept in the index file would be
gone, too. That include most of the attributes you can see in the
message list (read/unread, replied, parked, etc.) and memos (yes,
memos are kept in the index).

Mmmh, I remember that I had the same problem. It wasn't TB, my ISP was the
culprit: the message that came back was "No valid email address" (that's what
was written in the log field).

May be it was TB not resolving the group adress into several email adresses
while transferring the msg?!

Have a look at the log field at the bottom of your TB: Did TB try to transfer
the data and your ISP refused to send?

If so, is anybody out there knowing what Jan and I are doing wrong?

Did you actually lose sight of this Folder... did it actually disappear?
>From your initial message, it seems that you haven't actually lost the
folder, but rather the messages within it, correct?

Then I would have to agree with what has already been said... that it
quite possibly is a viewing problem. I don't know if views can set on a
per folder basis, but highlight the folder, then check View/Display and
see if "All messages" is checked.

If the messages were inadvertently deleted, then Ming-Li's suggestion of
Folder/Browse deleted messages should work.

I'm out of tricks and out of wits. :(

I suspect the .tbb file is itself corrupt, if it's true that you can
see those disappeared messages with an editor and deleting the .tbi
doesn't work. (Please do try again, just to make sure.)

Please backup both the .tbi and .tbb files, and try to compress the
folder. If the .tbb file is corrupt, there should be some sort of
error message when compressing it.

Or, please turn on the Size column in the message list pane if it's
not one. Check if any message is unusually big. I once had one
corrupt message and many other messages were mistakenly treated as
part of that message. It happened when I imported my old mail from
OE to TB, and it was corrupt in OE. That never happens again.

I did try this too. No error, and the file compresses down to a small
file size with only the viewable messages. It really seems that
somehow all the messages were marked for deletion. Is there a keyboard
shortcut to do this? Perhaps I hit the wrong keys at the wrong time
and didn't know it.

I can't do this, as the messages are "not there".

Rebuild Msg index

2000-11-03 Thread David Tod Sigafoos

A routine this morning reset my clock/calendar to 2001. Now although
I greatly enjoy the writings of Clarke I find this puts a crimp in
following 'when received'.

I have edited the message.tbb file and changed all instance of 2001
but I have been unable to get the index file to rebuild.

I have tried deleting (as I read some time past on this list) the .tbi
file but then all folders after this one simply had ?

1) how can I get this rebuilt or will i have to live ahead of everyone
2) is there a better way to take care of this type of problem in the
future (of course not having your clock/calendar go oogy is probably
best.

Thanks in advance ..

Usually just clicking into a folder with a '?' instead of a count will
make it re-index.

While that is true , export the folder contents to Unix format,
edit that as plain text and re-import it. That usually works quite
well, especially in more recent versions since the import procedure
became capable of setting the received stamp from the data.

I had an idea and tried it. The message file looks almost like a unix
format file, so I tried editing it to make it look like a unix file. I
removed the initial binary header which is long, and the later headers
which are smaller and all the same size. I added a fake From line at
the top of each message to conform to the unix format, and it DID
import successfully! I now am able to see ALL the messages again! They
don't have the index info to go with them, but at least I can see
them. I still don't know what might have happened to make them
'invisible' even though they were in the file. A rather brute force
'undelete', but it did work :-).

Thanks to all for your help,

Yes, I've been following the thread but have not much to add to what

I just did the same. The group was called "Tester" and had the handle
"test". It contained 3 members (myself and my partners, all local to
the LAN here, but that is immaterial).

JR> I address an email to the group.

I did that. The "To:" appeared as "test ".

You would address a mail to "janrif " (no quotes). The mail
would retain that addressing syntax, even in the sent folder. The word
"list" in angle brackets is leterally a part of the required syntax.

The messages at destination would appear as "To: addr1, addr2, addr3,
addr4" where each of the "addrN" addresses would be of the full
"RealName" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> as held in the address book group.

The mail I just tested with worked perfectly as described.

I hope that is of some help.

Here is an excerpt of a message I sent to TBUDL on October 15, 2000

cBegin Excerpt
1. create a group (Edit -> Create group)
2. Give it a name and a handle. Deselect "Hide items if not
   explicitly selected.
3. Now in the left hand side of the address book, you'll have a tree
structure. Expand the tree and select the top level.
4. From the right hand side, choose your contacts you want to add to
the group. Drag them to the group on the left hand side.
5. Now when you create a new message, type in the group's handle.
When you Tab out of the To: field, TB will expand the addresses to
   handle

Although it looks like TB will attempt to send to an invalid address,
the list is substituted before hitting your mail server. If you
include yourself in the group, you'll see what I mean.

Regular expressions

2000-11-03 Thread Patrice Neff

Hi all,

I'm using a regular expression for building the reply-subject:

|
|%Subject="Re: %SetPattRegExp=""(?i)\A\:?((\s*(re|aw|ha|rcpt|fw|fwd|forw|antwort)(\[\d*\])?:\s*)*)(\s*)(.*?)(\s*\z)""%RegExpBlindMatch=""%OSubj""%SubPatt=""6"""
(I've found this expression and have optimized it for my use. I
don't know where exactly I found it.)

But this expression does not work as expected. Or more exactly,
let's say it works very irregularly. I've created a test folder
with some messages in it. Some messages have the same subject, but
with the regexp above, I get different results. There are too much
spaces. I tracked this down and I am now almost sure, it's because
the Mime-Encoded subjects. (I think this is the correct name for
this "strange" subjects)

Hopefully you'll understand better, when I give you some examples:

| =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Re=3A_Re=3A=A0Ich_haben_fertig?=
Will result in:
| Re: Ich haben fertig
This is not correct, there are too much spaces.

| Re: Re: Ich haben fertig
Will result in:
| Re: Ich haben fertig
This is correct, there is one space after the "Re".

So, I come to my final question: Is this a bug with The Bat, or do
I have to change my macro?

Thank you for your answers.

Greetings, Patrice

Deletion options with IMAP4

2000-11-03 Thread Kiyan Azarbar

I have 2 questions (so far) after using The Bat! 1.47 HE for a day.

1) is there a way to apply certain changes to all accounts? As in change the
reply template, and so forth, for all of them? In fact, is there a way of
selecting more than one account BEFORE applying properties? I hate having to
duplicate properties ... I know some are unique so it wouldn't make sense to
group-apply, but in many cases it does.

2) How is deletion handled with IMAP4? Seems to me so far that TB treats IMAP4
basically like POP3, ie it doesn't use any of its inherent features. It doesn't
seem to respect the read flag, or replied-to or forwarded flags, etc. Or mark
things for deletion, and it can't PURGE on the server.

I ask because in Calypso there were many diff't types of deleting. Local
deletion which simply turned the message into header-only mode (and could be
later retrieved from the server). Deletion which marked it to be deleted from
the server (either immediate or next-poll)... but that leaves the message in the
local box. Then you could delete the thing locally and it would be gone, or
leave it.

Seems that if I say "leave on server" for IMAP4 once I retrieve messages there's
no way to delete them on the server except if I use the dispatcher.

Speaking of which, what is the dispatcher for? Haven't figured it out yet and
the documentation/list-posts are hard to hunt down.

Thanks.

Man, do I ever have to change this default template!
