Re[2]: Storing attached messages in a separate directory
Thomas, On Thu, 24 Jan 2002, at 11:20:27 [GMT +0800] (which was 8:50 AM where I live) you wrote: TF> Well, I've never used SecureBat (still happy iwth InsecureBat ), TF> but I switched from storing attachments externally to internally for TF> the following reasons: Other reasons could be virus related. I use AVG and it does not detect the virus if I choose to have the attachment in the message body. It will however alert me when I try to open the attachment. So in that sense I may have a virus residing on my machine but not active. Even Mcafee which I was using earlier would not detect if the attachments is kept in the message body. However the good part of it is that if I were to keep the attachments separately, the downloads are not smooth. As soon as the AV program detects a virus it will not be saved and then the message does not get 'marked as read' or deleted on the server. Then one has to use the 'Dispatch mail on server' option and delete the mail. This does not help in auto retrieval of messages. In summary, if one has a heavy load of mails and cannot be present in front of the comp all the time, then its better to keep the attachments in the body. And extract it using a read filter (if there is a need to). This of course assumes that the comp is protected by a good AV program. No. You have TB set up for a wrap point for autowrap which is wider than the width of your window. Or, since you say you have a wrap point of 70 and the messages you're sending clearly have more than that (one line was 141 characters long!), maybe you're editing lines and not using Alt-L to reformat them (since you're not using auto format). > Only yours (of course !) comes out right. So, there's nothing i can > do about it? For sending messages, TB hard wraps. Outlook and OE do not. TB wraps as you type and sends *exactly* what you see. Outlook and OE do not. For incoming messages, TB will wrap text to fit the view window width. If this is too narrow, then you'll get funky wrapping, because existing line breaks will persist. Nothing you can do about that other than view messages in a wider viewing area. When you reply to one of these messages, the wrapping reverts to line break points and becomes immaterial. David At first I wondered about the text editor but I have grown to really like it a lot. That's mainly because of the following: 1 I finally understood that formatting began where I started typing 2 I discovered ALT+l to reformat my paragraphs 3 I turned on Auto Spell Checker 4 the custom dictionary is very nice 5 I discovered replying quoted text using F4 Certainly everyone's needs are different and every editor is not the right tool for every job. wrapping mystery
Hi list, Strange thing is happening when i receive messages: a message i receive through The Bat!, Outlook, Outlook Express, comes out wrapped like this: >ddhdhddjdjdjdjdjddjdjdjdj >fhfh >fjfjfjfjfjfjfjfjfjfjfjfjf In other words: a sentence is spread out over three lines: the second line always has one or two words from the sentence and then resumes on the third line. I just now went back into my TB! preferences to restore TB! as my MAPI handler, and received an error message telling me that it could not be done, as the file "TBMapi.dll" could not be found in the program directory. Isn't that the address cache that I just asked about deleting? In the newly-created email click on the arrow in the To: field and it will bring up addresses that you have previously used or even incorrectly typed in. I deleted them because I prefer to use my address book which has now successfully been imported. >From my post: > While talking about the address book, could someone please tell me > how to delete the address list history when creating new emails. Open a new message, then on the To: line go to the drop down list, but don't touch any keys once the list appears. Now take your down arrow and hit it once. That should cause the first entry in the List to be highlighted. You can now use the arrow and delete keys to edit at will. :o) And my thanks to Nick Andriash for providing the information on deleting the cache. Alt-drag onto a folder puts the dragged folder at the same level; ii. Ctrl-Alt-drag onto a folder puts the dragged folder one level below. A slight oddity with Alt-drag is that, if you do it twice, the folder is displayed "either side of" the folder at the same level. Recipient macro in New Message template
Hi [EMAIL PROTECTED], The above almost sums up my problem: My New Message template begins with "Hi %TOFNAME," which should render a greeting to a recipient by his/her first name. But when I address a new message using the Address Book, The Bat! inserts either the entire e-mail address or the first part of it after "Hi", even though the template says to pick up the recipient's first name. I have filled out the name fields on the Properties tabs with First and Last Name, Handle and Display Name. In other words, if I address my mail to Joe Smith at [EMAIL PROTECTED], TB will usually start the message with "Hi jsmith," or, even worse "Hi [EMAIL PROTECTED]," rather than "Hi Joe," Also, TB seems to fill in the address of previously used names from some stored area other than the Address Book, like from a cache of some sort. I've purposely changed addresses and TB continues to write the old address. Very puzzling. How can I get it say "Hi Joe," and get TB to recognize changes I make in recipient info. -- Best regards, Orrie "If you don't find it in the index, look very carefully through the entire catalogue." -- Sears, Roebuck Orrie Frutkin Copywriter/Marketing Communications 24 Derby Road Port Washington NY 11050 (516) 883-6088 mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Latest Vers: 1.53d FAQ: http://faq.thebat.dutaint.com

If you want to use a filter, either manual or in general it has to be active. The interface is confusing, when Active is de-selected Manual should be grayed out. ABD display order
Is there a way to manipulate the display format of all the names in an address book at once? I have created a new address book and imported a lot of contacts from a separate program in vCard format. They are all listed as "Title Firstname MI Lastname." I would rather they were listed as "Lastname, Firstname MI," but there are too many to go through the entire list. Any chance there's an EZ remedy? A message I received some months ago from Stefan, which I no longer have, noted that the speed issue is associated with prior versions and no longer is a factor. I always "need the attachment as a separate file to work with," and just open it for that purpose, saving it in the directory and with the name that the purpose requires. It seems that some of their servers (here: hardware) are configured with newer software; they don't insert this separator item. It may actually have to do with the TLD you use, i.e. co.uk was created later than .de. I use various addresses from GMX, mostly the one I take for this list on .net, one is on .li, sitll another is .co.uk. Sometimes I see the inserted "greater than", sometimes they leave my mail untouched. To Nick: No, GMX has a tendency to not answer questions of that kind. The last time I heard from them on this issue was some time ago and hasn't been that satisfactory ("We see what we can do ..."). -- Dierk Haasis http://www.Write4U.de http://Interest.Write4U.de/pongo PGP keys available: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=SendMyPGPkeys The Bat 1.54 Beta/31 on Windows 95 4.0 67306684 C Absurdity: A statement of belief manifestly inconsistent with one's own opinion.
