Mozilla is my default browser. IE takes over only when clicking

I'm sorry, I can't.
I'm using an English W2K with set to German locales where ever this is
possible (on 'General' tab, 'Numbers', 'Currency', 'Time', 'Date' and
'Input Locales') and don't have any problem with an unusual file extension
when saving attachments. Albeit I have to confess since Drag 'n Drop is
possible I do seldom save by 'Dialog', I've just tested and the selected
file type is 'All Files (*.*)'.

So it seems to be a 'double-byte system set to single byte locale' problem :-(

I know I doesn't help, but that's all informations I can provide

Simply give it a try: change 'mm' to 'mmm' or ''. But I guess this will
display the months name according to "locale settings", at least this is
what's happening over here if I set 'locale' to 'English'.

So you might have to decide: either 'strange' default extension and months
names, or '*.*' and months in numerical format :-) (or you learn to read
Chinese months and get used to use them *GGG*)

If the "%1" is still there: no. Nothing more. '-nohome' is an IE specific
command line option you don't need to pass to Mozilla. I guess it doesn't
even understand it, so it's better to clear it out instead of one day
getting 'mysterious warning dialogs' when starting Mozilla :-)

Adding addresses to Address book

Actually email addresses are case-insensitive, and are not really proper
nouns. They are part and parcel of an address and not a name as such. They
cease being a name per se.

It would be like arguing version should be spelt verSion as "Sion" is a first
name in Wales.

I don't know about you, but it hasn't bothered anyone I email. I think its
more a Windows thing where certain packages auto-correct is a bit too keen to
see any word as correctable.

 Good evening list,

 %ABtoFIRSTNAME="%TOFNAME",

As you can see it fills in the name of the person in the TO field, if
this name is in the AB.
But if i want to mail to a person that's not in my AB, how do i
change it? I tried it leaving %ABtoFIRSTNAME= out of the expression
but that didn't work. Is there a way to trigger TOFNAME in the
 expression?

Problem with lost messages

2002-08-09 Thread Jonathan B. Bayer

Hash: SHA1

Hello TBUDL,

For the first time since I started using The Bat!, I have a signifigent
problem.

My inbox normally has a few thousand messages. Now it has less than 100
messages.

I do periodic backups using the internal Backup mechanism. Is it
possible to restore just one folder? Can that restore be done as a
merge (so that the current messages aren't lost)? If not, can I restore
one folder giving it a new name?

I just tried to restore the account. It returns an error message:

Cannot restore message base of the folder \\Bayerfamily\Inbox

My guess is that the Inbox folder is damaged; Before all this started I
got a message saying that it was damaged and needed to be recovered.
What can I do to fix this? How can I verify that the folder is actually
in good shape?

What I've done for now is to rename the account, restore the entire
account, copy all the messages from the Inbox in the restored account to
the real account, delete the restored account and then rename the
original account back to what it should be.

Thanks.

John,
Create a filter.
In the action tab mark "Add address(es) to address book".
I have this rule as a manual one in a separate folder and a separate
address book. I drag the message to this specific folder, run the
manual filter and there I have all the addresses in the specific
address book or group.

Hope It helps.

Thank you for writing.

Not entirely true in extreme cases. It is possible to setup mail
services to act with case-sensitivity, making jon.angliss different
from Jon.Angliss. It is a pain to do, and requires a lot of
configuring in multiple places, which is why 99% of the time, email
addresses are case-insensitive. I had this come up recently which is
how I know, we had a user with a case-sensitive username/email, but
the mail services wouldn't delivery it because it couldn't find a
username that matched his... The username was ZestyO, and trying to
mail zestyo@ would fail with user unknown. To get mail to be delivered
correctly, you'd have to screw with the mail server setup... so I just
changed his username (was in a lazy mood day) ;)

Message Dispatcher Question

2002-08-09 Thread Chris Montgomery

Howdy TheBatUsers,

I've been using MailWasher to preview messages on my POP servers
before downloading them to my client. Now, I've decided to just use
  the Message Dispatcher in TB.

I'm a bit confused, however, on configuring the Message Dispatcher.
When I run a mail check, all of the Receive and Delete column
checkboxes are checked. According to TB Help, a check in the Receive
column will "Retrieve the message into the Inbox as you would in a
normal download session" and a check in the Delete column will
"Delete the message from the server without downloading it".

When the Message Dispatcher is invoked, all of the checkboxes in the
Receive and Delete columns are checked by default. To me, this seems
a bit contradictory. Shouldn't it be one or the other, but not both?
Also, can the Message Dispatcher be configured to set defaults on
the columns, e.g., none of the Delete checkboxes are checked when
  the Message Dispatcher runs?

  TIA.

Create a new filter under "Read Messages" the select option "create a
copy of message in another folder", listed under "Action" tab and
finally go to the "Advanced" tab and define the age of the messages.

Nevermind, I figured it out after a test. Just seemed confusing at

The two different options mean different things. The receive is if
you want to download the mail to your local mail folders, while the
delete is if you want to delete it from the server. They are
independent of each other and perform two different actions. For
example, you can delete mail from the server without downloading it,
or visa versa.

DW> ge The Bat to leave the case as entered?

This query is entirely wrong in *every* respect . Allow me to
explain:

1) TB does not convert any case in the address field at any point.
2) No email addresses are a person's name. They a mailbox address.
3) A person's name may be included with an email address using this
   syntax:
  "Person's Name" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
for example. A person's name is may be used in but does not
   constitute a mailbox address.
4) It is "bad manners" to use any other than lower case for *mailbox
addresses* because some old servers may not be able to recognize
them (I doubt this statement, but it is deliberately
   argumentative and illustrates a point).
5) To get TB to "leave the case as entered" you will have to either
   i) turn off the address history
ii) remove the lower case version from the address history.
i.e. suspect that the offending lower case data is in the history.

Yeah, I figured it out after first unchecking the boxes in the Delete
column and downloading messages, and then going back and downloading
messages with the Delete boxes checked. It was clear to me after that
test that with checkboxes in both the Receive and Delete columns
checked that a message will be received and then deleted.

Now one more question - is it possible to set the column widths
permanently in the Message Dispatcher? I'm already getting tired of
adjusting them each time the MD is invoked.

I am not sure, I've never tried. I can normally get away with the
widths as they are as I normally only use it to kill spam. It may be

I *do* read the months and days of the week in Chinese. And a little
bit more. :-) However, they are not displayed in Chinese on my

characters when high ASCII characters encountered. My choise is to
either display Chinese correctly or German - and I chose German. So,
the Chinese characters in the message list are translated into

Third possibility would be a filter that forwards the digest to
