YOu can set a System Hotkey for that (Options, Preferences, System

Weird. In IE 6 or Mozilla 1.6, clicking on the download link next to The Bat!

There are the different licenses listed at Cifnet. But, they don't
detail differences. Can you explain what differences there are? Or is
it somehow a shareware standard that is always understood, to say what
types of users a license accommodates?

Maybe then these buttons are only for the Edit window. As where I am
typing now. And don't do anything on the view message window. Thus, as
soon as you move to reply to a message about this topic, the ambiguity
vanishes. But while you are only reading messages, the ambiguity
returns. :-)

So, if that was true, these buttons have no function on the view

Just to be clear to those not using Xnews, the skip key will
automagically scroll down past a block of quoted text each time you
tap it. It leaves the last line of the quote in the view pane,
for a bit of context.

In case this stuff ever makes it to a wish list, there's a third
option, which IIRC Gravity has. It's possible to hide most quoted
text but leave a couple of lines from each quoted block visible;
often this is enough to remind the reader of context.

Hi Christopher & others,

in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] you wrote:

CB> ...But the message is NOT moved to the destination folder. It

Yes can confirm filtering is still not working properly in v2.11 IMAP.
Although messages filtered from my IMAP folders seem to disappear
entirely!

'Re-filtering' my IMAP trash folder into a common trash folder with
the filter below:

BeginFilter
Name: Purge Trash
Active: 1
Source: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Target: \\\Trash
CopyFolder: none
MainSet: 00@
Actions: faDelServer,faoAdvOlder
AgeOlder: 5
EndFilter

Does 'catch' them, though they are not moved but simply dissappear
from TB and are marked as deleted on the server. This has been the
case with two other test filters designed to move messages from IMAP
folders into common 'Archive' folders.

NB filter did not 'catch' anything at all when synchorisation method
was 'headers only'. Only fully synchronised messages seem to be caught
in filter.

This mirrors other behaviour in TB IMAP, when, for example, trying to
move a message manually between folders or delete it (at least on my
machine) the message needs to be fully downloaded.

Could this be a factor in your filter not moving messages?

Hi Paul. I'm not sure what is being referred to by "free caret" editing.
Is it the ability to position the cursor past the end of a line without
padding the line out to that point with the spacebar? If so, the one I
use and recommend is ConTEXT: . It
also allows you to configure the type of cursor you like to use, eg: an
underline for insert mode, and a block for overwrite mode.

ConTEXT is free, and emulates the basic Wordstar keystrokes. It is
billed as a programmer's editor, and does indeed have many features
useful to a programmer. But many of these features, and many of its
other features, are very useful to non-programmers as well. Such as
multiple tabbed windows/files, colour syntax highlighting, text scrolling
(the ability, while keeping the cursor position intact, to make the text
scroll up/down by keyboard command, rather than having to reach for the
mouse), line-numbering, etc. It is well worth a look.

Interestingly, automatic refiltering was working reasonably well for
me on Beta 6 (aside from the fact that folders into which messages
were filtered did not indicate there were new messages until the
folder was selected), however it seems in 2.11 there is no
auto-filtering.

Was it intentionally removed for the release version?

After all these years of using TB!, I feel a little foolish asking the
following:

Cleaning up my system, I un-installed the prior TB! version (leaving
all data foldes intact), reset my machine & installed the new release.

I have my accounts back but then there's the AB, common folders etc. I
can't remember how to do that. Instructions or hints would be
appreciated.

I'm not informed about the actual pricing policy. I remember, that you
only had to pay the difference for upgrading the key in former times
though. I hope it's still the same...? You might try element5 (current

From the MyMacros Help file:

%Random

Definition

  %Random(min, max)

Description

Random integer value between Min and Max inclusively.

Example

  %Random("5","10")

I tried %Random(0,10) in a test QT. FWIW, the first five calls
to the QT yielded the following "random" numbers:

564250121

841478516

131415970

KookieJar is my choice for managing multiple sigs and taglines. You

Full quoting will get you flamed and/or killfiled pretty quickly in
most newsgroups I read. I'm thankful for the boilerplate mod notes
about it in TBDUL.

I only use the feature when I venture into groups where snipping is
not encouraged. In top-posting groups, tapping the key to hide quoted
text lets me quickly see if there is indeed any more new content,
without scrolling down. Without quote suppression, reading Microsoft
groups would be far more frustrating than it already is.

I actually use a news client for all mailing lists except this one,
gating through Hamster. I keep meaning to try a 2.x TB! to see if
it'll handle threading well enough for me to switch to it for lists.
(Mainly, I don't like seeing a thread split into parts just because I

My manual filtering is intermittent. I can run a manual filter and
everything would move fine. I'd then receive a few more mails and run
the same filters and nothing would happen.

I restart TB! and the manually trigger the filters and everything would
move as requested!?

Are many other people suffering the same problems, or does anyone have

Well, for example, I can't tell quite what you just fully agreed with.
I purge my TBUDL folder when I leave it, and the antecedent of your
post is gone; the threaded view makes no difference. I'm sure I did
read the antecedent -- probably it was posted only yesterday, my time.
But since then I have read a several hundred threads in groups and
lists, and my wetware is not up to recalling each read post in each
thread.

Me too. Snipping everything unnecessary to provide context is good,
and IMO encouraging that is the only good way to deal with the
problem.

I agree. Two lines for the attribution seems a good rule-of-thumb to
me, but opinions vary. I don't put in "Hello MAU" greetings in order
to keep it short, but I don't mind them either. I think they help
foster the friendly atmosphere here.

v2.11, IMAP & auto-filtering

2004-06-02 Thread Christopher Brown
Hi List,

At the request of the list moderators (because of x-header conflicts with this list's
software), I had to change the email address I used for the list, my only alternative
being to one that only supported IMAP. This was quite a pain, because TB! did not
auto-filter incoming IMAP mail. I had particular trouble manually filtering, which
would cause duplicate messages to be created that would not allow themselves to be
deleted, and severe message base corruptions (and lost email) that were not fixable
(at least not by me). So, I was relegated to manually dragging new TBUL messages to my
TBUL folder for many weeks. This has been aweful.

Needless to say, I have eagerly awaited v2.11. I upgraded immediately. I am
disappointed. My filters still don't work. Nothing seems to happen automatically. At
least manual filtering does not cause the message base corruption problems I
experienced with earlier versions. Instead, nothing happens (other than that the log
is updated). Here is an exerpt from the log, incurred by manual filtering:

>6/2/2004, 09:40:25: FILTER - Message from Mary Bull, subject "Re: New TB! release
>June 1, 2004", size 3,609 bytes filtered (processed by "TBUL"), URL: msgid:[EMAIL
>PROTECTED]

...But the message is NOT moved to the destination folder. It simply stays where it
is, and is not marked as read. My filter settings are as follows:

Source folder: Inbox
Move message to folder: \\\TBUL
Filter string: Reply-to:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Location: Kludges
Presence: Yes
Rule is: Active
Actions: Mark the message as read
Options: Regular expressions

...What am I doing wrong?

Perfect. The %- tidies it up nicely. Thanks.

That's true, but ...

Suppose you used a text editor (or even a word processor, if you were
careful) to created a file that looked like the QT you want. If the
file is called Test, you cold save it as a text file, called
\Test.txt .

You'd still have to use TheBat!'s QT editor to create a QT called
Test, but the QT called Test would contain is:
%INCLUDE="\Test.txt"%-

You should see smartbat in the taskbar too, so that you can minimize it; that

You can see it in the TASKbar if you put

[Options]
Taskbar=1

in the smartbat.ini file.

Be sure there are no spaces between "Taskbar", "-" an "1", otherwise it
doesn't show up. Only seen once you have clicked F6

Hi Robin,

I have this plugin stalled but never noticed the cut mark macro.
I never had a problem with the cut mark either so that might explain why

Hello Ian,

An extremely useful little number in TB!. Hit F6 and you'll get a small
utility which has a scheduler and facilities to add notes or anything
you like in separate pages. Select notepad and right click in the page.
Choose "New pad" and give it a pertinent name and then write whatever
text you want, for instance you may want to have all your passwords
handy. Then save the file and, each time you hit F6, it'll be there, as
will all other little files you've added. Very useful IMHO.

Hi Ian,

That is a good idea, but how about a cut mark macro (%cutmark), which
doesn't do any but enter the cut mark.
